Manny,

No word, it must be a secret? It's doubtful that I'll be getting involved with that group again, too many issues left unattended.

We would enjoy seeing you and your clan again, stop in any time you're in the area.

I'm sorry to hear about your unwillingness to get involved with them. You all seemed like a tight knit group while we were there. It has been a while though and I know things change. We will be looking for other tournaments in the area though, we do really like Disc Creek and the disc golf vibe you all got going on over there in Amarillo. We'll for sure stop in on our way to Worlds in June/July and more than likely on our way back home. Keep us updated with tourneys in your area. Take care John!....Manny

Two things - Texas HS Championships and Hobbs DG

Texas HS Championships:

Just a quick note in case someone has not heard(amore) about this event in Levelland. Matt is the TD working hard on things. He has stampted discs for the HS students...pretty nice logo. We'd really like to have some Amarillo, Dalhard, Pampa, Borger, Canyon, and area involvement. Who do you know in HS that would go for a DG trip? Give 'em a few dollars and a map to Levelland! Here is the flyer info:

TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL DISC GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS

Presented by the City of Levelland, the Levelland Lighthouse Disc Golf Club and the Lubbock Windriders Disc Golf Club

Saturday May 15, 2010 – Levelland City Park Disc Golf Course

2 rounds of 21 holes, lunch (provided) break between rounds
8:30 am Check-in, 9:00 am Players meeting, 9:30 am Tee-off

PDGA Rules will apply (PDGA membership is not required)

Current high school (grades 9-12) boy and girl students from Texas are welcome!

Format: Team and Individual Championships

TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT: A minimum number of 5 players from a school will be considered a team and eligible to compete in the Team Championship portion of the competition. Players must all be students currently enrolled in high school. Enter up to ten team members from one school (more students may sign up on a waiting list and may play if space allows). Using scores of best individual players, the combined 5 low scores of your team will be compared to the combined 5 low scores of the other teams. The team with the over-all lowest total score will win the Team Championship. Female players will play from the short tees and male players will play from the long tees. The top team will receive a trophy and medals.

INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT: You do NOT have to have a 5-person team to enter. Your score from both rounds will go toward your Team score and your Individual score. The player with the over-all lowest score for both rounds will win the Individual Championship. Individual players will be competing for medals. Medals will be awarded to the top 5 players.

Cost: $15 per player. Each entrant will receive a players package including a golf disc.
Pre-register by mail or register on-site day of event. Field is limited to 84 players!

For more information, contact Matt Ryan (matthewtryan@mac.com)

HOBBS - HARRY MCADAMS PARK - MAY 8TH

Here we go. It's time to have a kick-off mini at Hobbs! Ryan is a local player ready to get things DG related moving along. He just bought many, many discs for sale. He said local play is steadily increasing. So, for the first every Harry McAdams Park Disc Golf Tourney we'll have a day of disc golf on MAY 8th, 2010. ALL TIMES are MOUNTAIN STANDARD. Registration for a doubles round at 9:30, play at 10:00ish. Lunch / Casino break. Then at apx 1:30 register for singles round, play at 2:00ish. For BOTH rounds we'll play the red nine, then the white nine. I'll post fees and other information soon (doubles will be cheap, singles increase for adv, pros a little more). So, c'mon Amarillo and area, let's help Ryan have a good kick-off.

Hey John,

Hi Steve!

Yes, that is the date. We're looking forward to seeing you and Kathy soon (possibly {fingers crossed} at the end of May in CO). D or I will pass on more info to you soon.

Even though some of our Super Friendly neighbors want to crowd our normal weekend (TOTO has been on this weekend for many years now), we're going through with the event. Hopefully sometime in the near future this area will have some decent co-ordination. Tournaments one or two weeks apart in the same region doesn't do much for the area as a whole.

Default W Texas events

Hey Manny,

Shoot me an email and I can give you a list of W. Texas events that I have. I took it upon myself this year to try and coordinate all our regional events (everything from Ice bowls and Ace Races to sanctioned events) with the TD's so everyone could schedule in such a way that each event can get the maximum draw possible. Plus local players can plan their disc golf tourney season a little better. dg23837@suddenlink.net

I have heard the Discrazy Shootout is happening. I dont know if its sanctioned, but I'm hearing that its been pushed back into June so they could secure all the land necessary to setup the CHAMP course. Thats all the info I have.

Default Woodman is dead

I need to check with Jess to make sure, but I dont think he is doing the Woodman event ever again. The local Woodman chapter wants to take their "spring event" in another direction. But, I haven't talked to him in several months so who knows....

Hey Jroc,
I just found this post. If you could shoot me an email with the list I sure would appreciate it. We are definitely looking for an out of state tourney or two after Worlds. mannyd_928@yahoo.com

Default Woodman

Talked to Jess. The local Woodman chapter did reserve the pavilion this summer for a private party that includes some disc golf, but its just a Woodman thing. They are not holding a tournament. There are no plans to do a Woodman sponsored disc golf tournament in the forseeable future.

One tournament that is happening in the future is the Wild Hair, June 26-27 in Abilene. Any amarillo-ins planning on attending? Its gonna be sweet....C-Tier event ran as a B-Tier (added cash, players packs, everything). Sign up soon if you want in. The Open, Pro Masters, and Adv. men divisions WILL fill...plan appropriatly.

Bringing quality disc golf gear to the Texas Panhandle, Disc-Diva is once again a huge part of the Top of Texas Open. Stop by and check out their wares when you see their van at the park. Steve and Kathy are wonderful people, plus they're pretty good at playing DG also!

Default October Event

We are in need of players with portable baskets who can bring them for an event in mid-October. Probably need around 7 baskets, even canvas baskets will work. Let me know if you can help by posting here or get with me at the course. Should be lots of fun, more details very soon.

Looks like the baskets may not be needed. Just players! Probably going to be 4 to a team, need a business sponsor (still not sure if everyone on the team needs to work for the sponsor). We'll have a 9 hole course set up, designed more for lesser-skilled players, maybe even dual tees to challenge the better golfers.

Board meeting today, more news soon.

I got a stack of discs today from the Parks Dept. Around 12-15 that went in the Bomb Squad area. Only one name that I recognized. Several no-namers. Let me know if you've put one over that fence.

Don't worry about baskets, there will be 9 new ones in place for the event. All we need now is for players to get in touch with their bosses and see if you can get them to sponsor you and 3 friends to play in this event. There may be a need for used discs that can be donated, either permanently or for the day, for new players to use. There will be some sets of discs for new players, just not sure how they're going to handle that part.

The event will be the Amarillo YMCA Corporate Cup. I believe it will be Saturday, Oct. 15. There will be several events to participate in, with a Disc Golf round being one event. They will have a mini triathalon, homerun derby, washer pitching, and several other events. Your team can compete in several events or just one, to score points for the team total. Most events will be at the South Y, with Disc Golf being at the North Y (and Hines Memorial Park).

9 holes fit nicely in Hines Memorial Park. Hole #1 is located between the North YMCA and the school. There are several short holes but a few longer holes will be challenging. Some minor elevation changes will be fun, making putting tricky on a couple of baskets.

Team members for the Y's Corporate Cup need to be part of the sponsor's business. Everyone on the team will play the round, then all team members combine their scores for a team total. I've heard there are already 6 or 7 teams. Maybe Lone Star Interiors can hire 3 new employees before October...

I believe the Y is going to let us set up the course the day before the Corporate Cup so players can see and practice the course. We should be able to have it playable by 1500 (3pm) on Friday. Hole #1 starts in the grassy area between the Y and the elementary school. A map of the course will be available.

PLEASE WATCH FOR CHILDREN IN THE PARKING LOT. THE NORTH Y HAS AN AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR AREA KIDS, SO PLEASE BE CAREFUL!

Played it for the first time yesterday. No baskets but marked trees near the pin positions. 6 Birdies, a couple of Eagle chances. Definately a RED level course. Quite fun, the slopes add some challenge and aesthetic value.

#5 may be the most difficult of the 9. If the wind is blowing hard, #7 & #8 will be tough.

BLUE TEES are finally getting concrete! Supposed to pour today, all forming done yesterday. I drove through at lunch yesterday and saw some of the forms were placed backwards, so I visited with the Park Maintenance Foreman who assured me it was just a language barrier with the forming crews and all the pads would be oriented correctly. I went back right before dark and sure enough they were all correct.

So now I would like to ask anyone who has submitted a review of our course (either here or on dgcoursereview.com) to please revise (update) your review to reflect some of the issues that have been corrected. Alternate tee pads is one that I would like to see included, as well as the condition of #18's basket (it has been re-welded to a nearly new condition). Also, the picnic tables, grills, and trash cans have been removed from #18's fairway, making it much more of an awesome finishing hole.

Sorry, but there's not much I can do to fix the issues with the creek. We'll just have to live with the ebb and flow of high & low levels. There are talks of planting more trees to accompany the one we already have, so good times are near!

Get off the Interstate and enjoy our course. I-40 only shows visitors the flatness of the Plains, you need to venture North to experience the Canadian River Breaks. Leave the Interstate to the tourists.

Time change! We'll begin starting our rounds at 3:00pm instead of 4:00, in order to maximize daylight golf time. Every Saturday afternoon. Entry is a cheap $3 for everyone, $2 ACE POT. Optional CTP for $2.00 (goes to help fund our yearly Food Drive event in the winter, and Top of Texas Open in the summer).

Every 1st Sunday of each month we'll do 2 rounds, one from the WHITE TEES then one from the BLUE TEES, same as it's been going on for 15 years. Starts at 1:30pm. That means it's time to get out there now!

BIG STORM! Lots of tree damage all around town from Thursday night's storm. Over an inch of rain and almost 3 inches of wet, wet snow. I didn't see any baskets damaged, but there are a lot of branches down. If you play this weekend, keep an eye up for surprises.

Default Blue Tee pads...thumbs up

Got to enjoy the new Blue tee pads over the holidays....what an improvment! Its so nice to have a level tee area for 4 and 11...especially 4. I got off a pretty mean drive from that elevated tee last Wed morning :-) Congrats to whoever was responsible for those. Also noticed some of the baskets looked to be in better shape and the pin positions too. I dont think I have played 9 and 10 long in at least 2 years. Saw all the mulch around the tees Sunday morning too. Disc Creek is looking good...now to just plant about 50 more big mature elms.... **** ice storm :-(

Default Freezer bowl!

Wow! 1 degree. That is cold, especially with the 35+mph north wind.

February 13, 2011. The Texas Panhandle Flying Disc Association will host it's 17th annual Wintertime Food Drive. Texas Panhandle Short Game Championship will start at 10am. Regular round will be starting somewhere around 2pm.

Gear up, we'll probably need pocket warmers.

More snow and brutally cold temps on the way! Never fear, the show WILL go on, just like it has for the past 16 years.

Dig out your colored discs. This may be the first with snow on the ground in a while.
