Okay, so some dust is starting to settle and I remember a few pages back there was a brief discussion about the Vibram Rating System for discs. As I am one of the main developers of this system, I would like all feedback and thoughts. The goal is to build the most accurate and understandable rating system (even though these two goals are quasi-contradictory.)

I say keep it simple thats too much for one to think about
I'd say rate it more like Innova. Speed Just how fast it will go 4.2 is a good speed maybe 5 for the VP Fade I'd say +5 it almost spikes and turn there is none unless you anny it so i'd say
Fade +5 Speed 4.5-5 Turn 0

Simple is good. However, I would like the simple to be relative. Using the Innova model, a Boss is a 13 and a Leopard is a 6 or 7. The Boss does not fly twice as far as a Leopard. I'd like the speed/distance ratings to have real meaning.

If you buy a VP with a speed/distance of 60/4.2 = 252
and you buy a Vibram Mid with a spd/dist of 60/6 = 360

then you know fairly precisely that these discs are designed to be thrown with the same gusto and that the mid will fly 100 feet farther with the same gusto put on it.

Simple is good, but we opted for simple and relative.

Default Summit Release Date

Summit Release Date: Friday, November 27th

Contact your favorite disc golf stores and make sure they have them in stock in time for the holidays.

First Run Summits are all black and have no flight rating info engraved into the mold.

------------------

Huge announcement, part deux: VP lighter weights are coming online as we speak. Look for them trickling into stores just after Thanksgiving and early December.

Fantastic, Steve. Great work!

A couple of ?s:
1) What stiffness(es) will be run at first?
2) What weights will be run?
3) What tweaks (if any) have been performed from the proto version to the production version?

The first run Summits will be in X-Link Firm.
- The stock Summits (a couple weeks down the road) will be in both materials.
167-175 is the target. I think we're hitting it so far.
No tweaks to the mold, but the materials have been tweaked a bit for the production Summit.

The Summit is becoming available at our Pinnacle stores and other quality shops that carry Vibram golf discs (ask your local store to give me an email and get them: dodges@vibram.us)

Here are the Pinnacle stores that should have them now or very soon:

The Ridge has been PDGA approved and we will begin our field testing in the next month. No release date has been set.

DVD was again a worthwhile purchase even with the "digital noise" in a few places that Steve commented on during the video.

Can't wait until JAN 1st to sign up again for the 2010 Vibram Open.

Maybe I'll show up more than 3 times for 15 total seconds in 3 hours in the 2010 version.
Although I did lead off the RPM contest footage!

Hi Jason,

The teepad project is in round three of testing and is currently a back burner project while a better recycled rubber adhesive is found.

Vibram is a multi-billion dollar corporation based in Italy whose products are used all around the world. Check out their website for all the different things they make. They are most famous for their shoe soles which are used in just about every walk of life. I will definitely look to buy my next pair of ski boots with Vibram soles.

There were only a few dozen of the Christmas discs made. We sent one to each retailer as a thank you (I would recommend not parting with it too easily) and there were a handful that were distributed to the disc golf folks here at Vibram DG. Hopefully someone (Chase?) can figure out how to take a picture of one.

Was some kind of machine (similar to a pitching machine maybe) used to test the fade and turn values at different speeds?

Just curious about how those values were derived.

Also, this would be more useful if the average player could figure out their "normal" thrown speed easily. Then you could select a disc based on how well its flight characteristics matched your thrown (arm) speed.

Love my Vibram putters.

We don't have a throwing machine. We used a camera, a radar gun and a distance finder. And we used the same person throwing so spin was hopefully minimized as a differentiating (is that a word?) factor.

Ideally a player would be able to throw a VP and watch it fly and determine if they are getting it to its ideal speed. If so, all is good. If not, I'd recommend discing down to the Summit.

Default Less than 160g

Hi Steve,
Is there any chance of any of the three discs being run under 160g for players going to the Japan Open?
