Hi Dave,
Just picked up a new champion rancho roc. I lost my 06 eye stamp and went with a new USDG version. Thing is, this roc has much more dome and the plastic seems harder and more poppy. The result is that it flips when I throw it hard. It is way less over stable than my 06 rancho roc was. The 06 roc was much flatter with softer plastic. Is this a new mold? Also, is there any plan to make them flatter like the older one's so that they are more over stable? I would much rather throw a roc than a shockwave but I need a mid range I can throw a long way in a head wind without flipping over. Thanks in advance for the insight. Greg B. |

Pretty much every glow champ roc ever made has these characteristics, with the exception of the ones released this year. There are some of the older, flatter ones available on dgu at www.discgolfunited.com

Dave,
Most of the Innova line-up is 21.2cm. But the Roc and a couple of other midranges are 21.7cm. What is the advantage/reason of a midrange being 21.7cm like a Roc vs. 21.2 for a Spider or Cro etc.? |

All things held equal, larger discs are slower, with more carry, more forgiving of throwing errors, and easier to perform finesse shots. Small discs are easier to launch and faster.

Yes, I have noticed that the softer domier Grooves fly more like they are supposed to than the slightly stiffer and flatter Grooves.

Sorry if this question was already asked!
Where are the FB Firebirds? The Firebirds shipped out now(F) aren't as overstable as the old 11X / FB Firebirds!

F and FB are the same. Apparently 11X and present are not. We are receiving new batch of material soon (which largely determines how stable the discs like Firebirds are), hopefully it will produce more stable Firebirds than it has recently. Every batch is slightly to more than slightly different, unfortunately.

Generally, dome is an indication of too much shrink, but not always. Generally, I would expect a domey disc to be less overstable than a flatter disc. Dome actually helps straight line stability, (not over stability). However, when it is an artifact of too much shrink, the nose angle can be changed adversely, which can affect high speed stability.

I just played a round with 2 brand new Star Firebirds(SFB) and they are both more overstable than the 12x Champs!
