Default DG around the \'Burgh

Rather than create a new thread for every event or weekend outing, I decided I'd create one thread that could handle all the miscellaneous stuff.

On that note, is anyone interested in playing the 4th Annual Fairmont Ice Bowl tomorrow? I'll be leaving the Cranberry area at 7:00 am if someone wants to catch a ride in the Jerryiat.

You can find info about Fairmont Ice Bowl by clicking here.

Alanna and I were thinking of making the drive. We won't need a ride but we might see you there.

It was a lot of fun playing the Fairmont Ice Bowl yesterday. The bonus was NO SNOW on the ground and sunshine all day long! Good times....well, except for Lori who realized after arriving home in Pittsburgh that she had left her golf bag in West Virginia.

Good thing Jason Stallnaker found the bag. Just means I have another reason to head back to Fairmont. Great day out there, so much fun.

Default Bulletin Board Announcements at Schenley Park

Hey Everyone,

I have been updating the Schenley Park bulletin board each week with score updates from Wednesday night league along with event fliers that I have been given (J. Gary gave me the PFDS membership form). If you have any disc golf related materials that you'd like to have posted at Schenley, please email them to me as an attachment to mprestopnik@hotmail.com. I have access to a color printer and will get them posted on my next trip to the course (usually at least twice a week).

Take care,

-mark

Default DG around the 'Burgh ~ June 6 & 7

Lots of action around the 'burgh this weekend. As usual, we have a large number of PFDS members going up to Ashtabula, OH for the Discraft Shoot the Breeze Open. Robin White will be representing Pittsburgh at the Seneca Creek Soiree in Maryland while I'm currently the only PA player registered for the Disc 'n Dat Bluegrass Open in Kentucky.

Best of luck to all our traveling members this weekend!

Mark your calendars for next weekend, June 13 (Saturday). We will be conducting disc golf clinics at Moraine State Park as part of the National Get Outdoors Day! Demos are scheduled for 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.
The Moraine Monthly will start at 3:30 pm on June 13!

kick some butt Jerry. Maybe next year I will go down with you. Just hard to pass up the Shoot The Breeze. Ashtabula is one of my favorite places to play golf and hang out at afterward.

Thumbs up 6/13 Moraine Monthly & National Get Outdoors Day!

National Get Outdoors Day

Saturday, June 13
Moraine State Park

For more info visit the following website:
http://www.nationalgetoutdoorsday.org/about/

"National Get Outdoors Day is a new annual event to encourage healthy, active outdoor fun. Participating partners will offer opportunities for American families to experience traditional and non-traditional types of outdoor activities. Prime goals of the day are reaching first-time visitors to public lands and reconnecting our youth to the great outdoors."

The PFDS and Moraine State Park are teaming up this weekend to promote disc golf during the National Get Outdoors Day. Please join us for a day of promoting disc golf on one of the premier disc golf courses in the sport!

We will have a tent set up near hole 1 and we will be providing promotional materials as well as offering disc golf demo clinics at 11:00 am & 2:00 pm! One can never tell how many people may show up to learn about disc golf, so the more PFDS volunteers we have on hand, the better!

The Moraine Monthly will start at 3:30 pm!

Plan to spend the day promoting the sport we all love to play! Bring old discs you no longer use so interested park patrons can try their hand at tossing a golf disc! We are in particular need for used putters and mid-range discs as most of our donated plastic are drivers.

Bring lunch or plan to grill out. Some folks have told me they are planning have a dinner barbecue following the monthly. Of course, the Lakeview Beach concession stand is open for business this time of year. Lake Arthur is available in the event you want to take a swim and the showers are open as well.

I hope to see many of you at Moraine this weekend!

Regards,

Jerry Gotcher

Default Lori

I was reading the new DiscGolfer magazine that just arrived and they had the national points standings for amateur Men and Women and Lori Merriman is ranked 12th in the nation. I just wanted to congratulate her and make sure everyone else knows.

Default New 9 Hole Course

There is a new 9 hole course located at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. If you have your own discs they will give you a map and let you play for free. I have not played it yet although I have heard that Craig McCloud (of the clan McCloud) has. Since Nemacolin goes overboard on everything I am hoping that it is a nice course. The number to call for directions and information is 724-329-6070. I am hoping to play it this coming weekend.

I'm not doing either, 7 Springs or Knob Monthly... If i were you I'd play Knob, you can take all the money there. 7 Springs doesn't play you to play.

Default PFDS Events ~ July

Sunday, July 12 ~ Moraine Monthly (10:00 am)
We will be playing the PFDO pin placements for the Monthly. Pins will also be left in tournament position up through the PFDO, August 8-9. Get your practice in this month....home field advantage, baby!

Saturday, July 25 ~ Deer Lakes Monthly (10:00 am)
This will be a Monthly *Mixer* format where all divisions play from the white tees. Pro and Am players will be randomly mixed so competitors get a chance to play with people outside their respective divisions.

Sunday, July 26 ~ Knob Hill Course Championship (9:00 am)
This two-round fund raiser benefits the Pittsburgh Flying Disc Open in August. Last year, players raised nearly $700 for the PFDO.

August 1-2 ~ The Invitational at Moraine State Park
Handicap tournament held during the Regatta at Lake Arthur. This year's tournament will be a true invitational.....only PFDS members will be allowed to compete. Membership has its privileges!

Tournament details and individual player handicaps will be posted sometime next week.
Mark your calendar for this event and the Regatta at Lake Arthur. Plan to spend the weekend helping promote disc golf all the while enjoying the two-day festival. Admission to the Regatta is free and there are tons of activities for both young and old!
