Maybe more likely is that he just wants to increase the perceived value of those discs by bidding up his own auctions

Probably. Much like the guy that buys almost all the Champion Whippet-X 's, hes trying to create the market price. He will be able to for the most part, depending on how many people out there will still want these when everyone else gets them.

More and more people are starting to wise up on disc collecting. Its tough to hate on people willing to spend 10x what someone else is for a disc that will become public in a week.

And....its not like this isnt going to help Innova make a killing on these things. Most of the people that sell discs and watch Ebay are probably chomping at the bit to get thiers in the mail and online. In a week, there will be 100+ of these Star proto versions on Ebay and they will start leveling off to around 15-25 bucks. Color swirls and oddities will still attract good money, but again, it will turn out like the Teerex.

I dont think the Champions will fall off that drastically, as most people put the value of a disc at its finishing price. Much like the '01 Red Roc , which now carries a value of roughly 1200-1500$. If the same guy buys enough of them and STARTS them at 125.00, he can just sit back and wait for people to pay that for them....which they will.
