The wider wing is the easiest way. But, yes it is possible to develop an even faster disc with a smaller wing, but there are technical problems related to disc specifications and control.

By far, the most important part of any shot is what is happening in the last split second as the disc is pulling itself from your grip. Focus there. It's the key.
