This Thursday, April 9, 6pm Tee-Off (SHARP), that means be registered 5 to 10 minutes or earlier than 6pm :D

1st Greenwood Mini

Zach Griffith will be TDing

$5 entry, skill divisions will be available as needed

should be alot of fun, let's get this course played so we can be sure of tee positions before we start pouring tee-pads :cool:

this event will continue as a weekly WAFDA mini thru August as of now

Oh, Evan by the way do you have the wheel to calculate distances for the holes at Greenwood !!!!

We probably need to see what the distances are to determine if the hole needs adjusting or not !!!!

ps. I hope to see you at the mini tonight if possible !!!:) :D

Fins someone with a lazer range finder. Once you do, you'll never pull the wheel out again.;)

Way to busy at work to make Greenwood, wish I could

I do have a measuring wheel, and 3 putt is right, a good laser range finder could be easier

as far as some of the elevated holes I was wanting to take long string and mark it and then lay on flat ground and roll it off

my opinion is that length doesn't really make the hole

Shot shaping by terrain and obstacles is what I'm looking for out there and for it to not be so hard as to scare off first timers and rec players (like Alma can do, mainly with rough schule, bluff and water shots losing plastic)

There is the possibility of dual tee pads though, that could give us the best of both worlds

right now we need to see how the trees filling out have changed the shots to make sure that we like them and get permanent tees in the ground, sometimes just shifting a tee a few feet can give more lanes or more drastically define the lane of travel to get to the pin

and 8 has to be moved, that's a headache waiting to happen, especially when the course is full like during events

please, by all means, those of you that are able to play it more than I have let me know what you're thinking about it

As of last night I became an Arkie with a range finder (thanks Mom)!!
I will try and get it out there to shoot the holes and write down the distances. If I can get a dry spell this weekend (doesn't look good though) I plan to play some golf somewhere. If it is a long enough spell I'll hit Greenwood!

Reminder that Greenwood's course handles all this rain well !!!!

if that is in reference to me please undertstand that I'm hitting around 70 hours in a 5 day work week in the month of May and am attending large events most every week-end :p

Next Sunday , 2 pm tee, will be the start of a 8 week mini "league" in Alma that I'm running though!!

Traveler Basket and a USDGC Roc are a couple of the better end of league prizes that I'll be Donating (as well as other stuff)

Alma Greens is June 27, 1 day B Tier & SN Qualifier very similar to last year

Evan, this was in know way shape or form directed at you personally but to the board as a whole. I always try to encourage everyone I see on or off the course to try and attend our mini's. Golfer's overall will benefit from being in a structured mini. If hanging around with people with a common interest in disc golf isn't enough, then our overall games should improve by being around golfer's with different types of skill.

I understand that family and work are very important in our quest for happiness and security. But as disc golf goes it might take a village and the board seems to be a good start.

Next week we will be playing hole 7 as an island hole so be prepared to use that pin point accuracy!!
Also we may even try a few mandos as well but it will be announced before the mini.
The Ace Pot was not hit last night which raises it up to around $24.
Also if anyone is interested there is a side bet of first one to shoot -10 in a mini there is a $10 entry to get in and winner gets entire pot. Please let me know if you want in on it.

Greenwood Course length
 

I finally got out to shoot the course with my range finder, and to actually play it for the first time too!! On the playing the course I shot a 54. Not great, but not bad. I was OK with it, as I shot blind on two holes, not sure of where the holes were, and too tired to walk and find out after covering almost every hole twice to get the measurements.

Here's the hole info:

Hole 1 - 162ft.
Hole 2 - 264ft.
Hole 3 - 258ft.
Hole 4 - 216ft.
Hole 5 - 210ft.
Hole 6 - 300ft.
Hole 7 - 216ft.
Hole 8 - 201ft.
Hole 9 - 321ft.
Hole 10 - 270ft.
Hole 11 - 258ft.
Hole 12 - 249ft.
Hole 13 - 240ft.
Hole 14 - 381ft.
Hole 15 - 240ft.

Total Length = 4,680ft.


On a bit of a side note: Has anyone noticed, besides me, that there is a nest of either Honey Bees or maybe Yellow Jackets, on the teebox for the hole that goes across the soccer field (I think 14 or 15)? I hate bees of any kind, but those underground will be hard to get rid of!

Also its good to hear that you got to play around of golf, hope you can find some more time this summer to play the mini !!!

Because all work and know play could make for a long summer, it would be a shame to have to go back to school for some rest !!! ;)

actually I like the idea of a beginner friendly course like this, not to say that we can't have some alternate pin placements and blue level tee's

this course almost reminds me of Gulley as far as the manicured look
thank goodness it doesn't have the traffic that Gulley had though

Well it was typical Greenwood scores Close !!!! :)

In the end James Perry pulled it out with a 47 (-7)

Am division winner was Jason by two strokes at 58 !!! :)
also had a three way tie for second place at 60 !!! :cool:
