Ice Bowl
WATERLOO DISC GOLF CLUB’S
6TH ANNUAL ICE BOWL Saturday February 4, 2006 Zilker Park Disc Golf Course (18 Hole Setup) Signup Begins at 11:00 am (at Polo Picnic Tables, by hole #1 of the north course) Start at 12:30 pm As many of you probably know, the Ice Bowl was started a number of years ago to have a day of disc golf solidarity in the gloom of winter (well, ok it isn't usually THAT gloomy around here, but you get the idea). Every year, clubs and people from around the world gather together to help fight hunger within their communities and to have a day of fun playing disc golf no matter what the weather. The rules of the Ice Bowl are simple: 1) Under no circumstances can an Ice Bowl be postponed or cancelled; 2) No wimps or whiners allowed; 3) There are no excuses for not attending! We will be raising money and food for the Capital Area Food Bank. The entry fee is $13 and 3 cans of food (or $15 and no food). For that $13, you will receive either an Ice Bowl Disc and Mini or an Ice Bowl T-Shirt (supplies of both are limited - first come first choice; we will also have long-sleeve shirts, but there is an extra $3 fee for them). After that, we are playing for fun!!! All proceeds will go directly to the charity. SPECIAL PRIZE TO PERSON WHO BRINGS THE MOST POUNDS OF FOOD!!! We will also have some CTP contests and maybe some other fun stuff. The whole idea is to have a great time while helping others out who really need it. If you have anything you would like to donate as CTP prizes, please let us know. Anything we receive, we will give away! |
Re: Ice Bowl
This is going to be one great event! I am really looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Re: Ice Bowl
Just a reminder that this Saturday is Waterloo’s Ice Bowl at Zilker. The full info is above.
The person who brings the most food will win a special prize. It isn’t too late to have a small food drive at your place of work. Just put out a box with a sign and let people know they can bring stuff tomorrow or Friday. Then bring it with you to Zilker. The sign can just say something like “Food Drive Benefiting Capital Area Food Bank”. If you want you can also add something about it “being in support of Waterloo Disc Golf Club’s 6th Annual Ice Bowl at Zilker Park”. Also, it would really help the entire event if everyone could bring just a little something for the raffle and/or the ctp games. We never ask for much at Ice Bowl; it can just be a disc, or a shirt, or a mini, or a cool toy, or something that we can give away. If you have some small silly stuff, bring that too for the Tayloe CTP Bag. This will be a bag of silly things/toys/gags along with coins and bills all contributed by the players for a big ctp prize on one of the holes. Dave always used to bring stuff to start it out, so we want to continue that tradition. I believe that Chris Ware got the bag started last year since Dave’s health wouldn’t allow him to attend (thanks Chris!). I think the most humorous thing Dave ever put in one of these was the package of “Anti-Masturbatory Gum” :D. Only Father Dave finds stuff like that (and then thinks of how best to use it). Hope to see you this Saturday! |
Re: Ice Bowl
Looks like we're having burgers and dogs on sale for lunch thanks to Q-Chef :D

Re: Ice Bowl
The weather was BEAUTIFUL! :D
We had 110 players. We also had four people who paid but couldn't play: Karrie Guerrero, Mike Billig, Raymond Ridgeway, Vladimar Ridgeway. Thanks very much to a wonderful staff!!! It wouldn't have happened without all your hard work. :) Bert Lirette Sheldon Parker Roger Allen Lou Moreno Del Stair Aaron Stair Lynn Wright Dave McKinney Bree Smith Dave "Q-Chef" Quintanilla Rob Hecht Fishead Tim Brad Granier Thanks also to those who brought stuff for us to give away :D North Shore Disc Golf Club Bert Lirette Larry Thompson Thomas "Kansas" White Rick Chavarria Dan Mueller Mark McCrimmon Live Oak Brewing Co. Tito's Vodka Bongos BBQ Q-Chef and his helpers served us up some tasty hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, and beans all day long. Live Oak gave us some beer (quickly consumed). Mark McCrimmon served up some delicious (and strong) Tito's Vodka drinks following the round. Bree Smith and Chris Dale brought some small bags of potato chips to sell and donated the money to the food bank. Bert Lirette brought 40 pounds of canned goods, and won the special prize: a Father Dave pack of plastic (the full color trophy disc from the 28th Waterloo, the INNcolor mini from that tournament, and the memorial disc (with the father dave monk logo and his birth/death dates - 1 of only 15 made). 39 people played 5-5-5, which raised $190. John Brady donated a $100 check. $92 came from the entries of those who didn't bring food. We also sold some additional raffle tickets (all players received one ticket for free). It looks like the total cash raised is about $500 (will be verified soon). The poundage dropped off at the food bank isn't in yet, but I bet it was a bunch. Thank you to everyone who came out and made this another successful Ice Bowl. :D:) :D Finally, thanks to Austin Parks & Rec for giving us a good rate on the picnic area rental and for letting us set up the full Zilker course. It's always a treat to play the whole thing at one time. Next year: same time, same place ;) |
Re: Ice Bowl
Way to go Waterloo, but more importantly, way to go Lou. Giving Randy a beatdown. :D Too bad Mr. T didn't show up for his whippin and too bad Loretta is retired.

I gave Ugh the double stamped Father Dave mini that I won on a ctp hole. I think he drooled on it but, said he was gonna hang it on the wall. It was the most fun I have had in a long time and I would be happy to staff again next year as long as no one complains. Thanks to everyone !!! Please don't look at my score, Dave. ___________________ "Hallowed Are The Ori" |

It was there in what I handed you Bert, check again :D
Also, I forgot to thank our 5 new members (Welcome to the Club): Ed Washburn Andrew "Blu" Romero Daniel Armstrong Traye Dean Micah "Moon" Winters And, we had another 15 people renew their memberships for 2006. :D |
Re: Ice Bowl
You're right Gordon, as usual. I was mistaken but, I should have said that I lost the brand new Orange Champion Coyote I purchased. What a shame. Still, what a great day for being with friends and playing disc golf.

Final Total for Capital Area Food Bank:
$600 plus 358 pounds of food!!! Thanks again to everyone who made this possible. This ties the record for the most cash we have raised for them at an Ice Bowl, and it beats the record for pounds of food. Next year we'll do even better. :D |

WATERLOO DISC GOLF CLUB’S
7TH ANNUAL ICE BOWL Saturday February 3, 2007 Zilker Park Disc Golf Course (18 Hole Setup) Signup Begins at 11:00 am (at Polo Picnic Tables, by hole #1 of the north course) Start at 12:30 pm As many of you probably know, the Ice Bowl was started a number of years ago to have a day of disc golf solidarity in the gloom of winter (well, ok it isn't usually THAT gloomy around here, but you get the idea). Re: Ice Bowl
Also, 1 week before our Ice Bowl is Live Oak's Ice Bowl. The following info was posted by Yeti "accidentally" on a new ice bowl thread (instead of scrolling down to find the old one :D).
Hope to see some of you down this way for a great cause....... Live Oak Ice Bowl Benefiting the Educational Disc Golf Experience Saturday, January 27th in Live Oak, Texas Pool House is at 7901 Shin Oak Dr in Live Oak, 78233 (Mapquest) SIGN-UP PRIOR TO 8:30 (please, please, please) Player Meeting @ 9:00 (2) Rounds of 18 for everybody 1st round for ranking 2nd round will be Nassau on each card (see below) Pro $35 All Amateurs and Ladies $20 and will receive an Innova Disc *$5 of every entry and raffle proceeds will go to the Educational Disc Golf Experience to help bring disc golf into the schools of Texas. *We will also be donating food to the local food bank again this year so please bring dry goods and canned food. (Raffle tickets for food donations) We have lots of CTP's and other fun planned. Innova Champion has sponsored a basket for the raffle again this year. Please bring anything else you would like to donate for the cause. Any unwanted Christmas gifts are also welcome as well. Come on Sonic Blade! Looks like Texas Roadhouse and Sweet Leaf Tea are back on board for a terrific hot lunch for just a $5 donation that also goes to EDGE. Nassau format worked great last year so we will do the same this year. Everyone plays a regular first round. Second round will see each card have a value placed on it. The better your first round is; the more value available to your second round card. Then, the Nassau second round will award the best score on your card for every six holes played and the total score for four chances to win prizes or money. Think of the second round as three mini rounds of six holes and an overall score award. Come on out and have a great time for a great cause! |
Re: Ice Bowl
Less than 1 week to the Ice Bowl :D
We will be raffling off one of the old Zilker baskets, so this is your chance to own a piece of Austin disc golf history. $2 per ticket or 3 tickets for $5. Come on down to Zilker on Saturday for lots of fun! :D |
Re: Ice Bowl
Here are some announcements / extra information / reminders about Ice Bowl:
Signup Begins at 11:00 am (at Polo Picnic Tables, by hole #1 of the north course) Choice of shirts / discs will be first come first served Start at 12:30 pm entry fee is $13 and 3 cans of food (or $15 and no food); all players will receive an ice bowl shirt (short sleeve) or an ice bowl dx disc&mini; upgrades to long sleeve shirts or higher-end discs are available for a few extra dollars, but quantities are limited There will be time for the folks to play the Pease Mini that morning, but you’ll need to come directly to Zilker as soon as your round is over. Ask Dave Moody (or whoever is running it) to call me and let me know that you are on the way. That way we can speed up your registration & hole assignment. We could use some extra volunteers to help get the course set up, take registrations, make scorecards, etc, plus some stuff at the end of the round. If you can help, please let me know (by PM or by email to gordon@ventbird.com). It is easy for volunteers to play too (in fact, most will play), so you won’t have to sacrifice taking part in the event just to help. We need folks there around 9 am to help get everything set up. After the round, we will have a CTP game for a bunch of donated prizes, so bring some extra bucks. Speaking of prizes, we could really use some donations. We don’t go out seeking big sponsorships for Ice Bowl. Instead, we ask that golfers try and bring something small to give away. Could be a disc or a shirt or a towel, or even non-disc golf stuff. We want to make up some nice prize packages for our CTP games, and it would be great to have something to give to 1st place in each division if we can. Thanks and see you soon! Gordon |
Re: Ice Bowl
It looks like it will actually be cold for an Ice Bowl for once! I will bring some extra plastic as a donation on Saturday morning. Does anyone know if all 18 baskets are in place (as of 2/2/07 at noon). I would love to go play this afternoon on all eighteen baskets...yummy

Re: Ice Bowl
Thanks Jon!
Sorry, but the bskets won't be in place until the morning. We are trucking them in first thing and then taking them out when we are done. I believe Mark McCrimmon is going to try and have a keg of Live Oak there. Thanks Mark!!! :D |
