July 26th field events, tourney play through the week, then finals on August 1st.

Through the event, I'll probably talk occasionally to several of the area players having fun in KC. I'll post a few things, progress, etc. here.

Rob drove all the way to KC a week early and has been playing all of the courses. He was on Blue Vallye this Friday am. He could not believe the artistic design of the tee pads (actual shape of the hole layout), the tee signs, and the course itself. He's hangin out with his brother, Kenney, all week.

Matt is taking the more 'leisure' trip to KC. He's playing about three courses in OKC on the way, then another on the way to Wichita, Herman Park in Wichita, then at least one in Emporia (Eric McCabe's town). Through the weekend and Monday, he plans to play the courses in his format...and maybe a few more.

Vicente drove all day/evening yesterday (Thursday) and got to KC about 1:00 am Friday. He said that Dillon and his mom drove all night and got in about 5:00 am this am on Friday.

Rocky and Drew are headed to KC to day. Julie is with them but sadly not playing. They'll be in KC late tonight and then plan to hit quite a few courses over the weekend.

A Lubbock-ex, Albert is playing this year. I belive that there are a few from Abilene and several more from San Angelo headed to KC as well. I saw in the registration that there were about four from New Mexico headed to KC. I'm sure that I've missed some area players.

Field events are this weekend. Rob said he probably would try to again win long drive. I think V is to try putting. I don't think Matt is going to do field events. I'm not sure if others are field eventing. Also, there are doubles this weekend (not sure there either).

Good luck to all of our area players!

More later....

The area KC dgers are all now in KC. Matt trickled in...by playing many courses along the way. He actually played three courses in Emporia and another at Ottawa. Today he played at Swope early (last few holes with Rob), then Rosie Down, and Cliff Drive. V and Dillon have been playing assorted KC courses and are to meet Matt at Cliff Drive this evening. Matt also played with Rocky, Julie, and Drew on one of the courses today. Rocky and Julie teamed up and played doubles yesterday. Rob, V, and Dillon did field events today, but I'm not yet sure how that went. Registration is ongoing. Players meeting is Monday. Rounds start Tuesday.

Player meeting was Monday. First rounds for everyone on Tues. Matt said that there has been great weather all the way so far...until the rounds started. He played Swope Tues...few holes on wet pads, the rest in the rain on wet pads. He's in the middle of one of two pools. Rob's a little off the lead of about 15 in his group. V and Dillon are in middle-ish in their groups. Rocky had a bad round. Joe Acosta played well and is near the top in his group.

I'm in EP (worked at Hobbs along the way...fell, injured ribs...may be out of DG for a while).

I’ve been out quite a bit this week and just did not post updates as planned. It’s all over for this year’s area Worlds players. I think everyone had a good time. Our showing was maybe a little less than desired….next year. I went through the results and looked for our area players and players that maybe had a ‘link’ to Lubbock or the BAB. I know that I missed some players from our area (sorry).

Open – Wow! I listened to the live radio coverage as best I could (see other threads) and had the live scoring going and was following along the discussion thread and talked to a few on-site during the final nine and then the amazing playoff. Supposedly, the crown may be the largest ever to watch dg. It will be interesting to see the results and the video. Avery Jenkins wins in a 5(?) hole sudden death playoff. There were 131 players in the division. Climo was at 12th. Others of note: Coda 12th, Jay Reading 25th, Eric McCabe 31st, Matt Hall 34th, Michael Olse 42nd, Nick Rowton 73rd, and some NM players Danny Polk 82nd and Zack Richer 93rd. Jerry Kingston was at 119th, Devan Owens (recent Levelland winner) DNF.

Open Women – Des took 2nd.

Pro Masters – Joel Kelley 13th, Vinnie 14th.

Pro Women Masters – Sheila Kirkham (NM) 3rd, and won $600!

Pro Grand Masters – Rob’s brother Kenney (CA), 7th out of 57 and$750. Kiko V (NM) 20th for $230, Carl Wamsley from San Angelo 31st.

Pro Sr. Grand – Past Advanced Sr. Grand, Rob is 8th in a 15 player field. He said that he had his worst every round in competition late in the week.

Advanced – This was a very large field of 271 with several pools. Albert Balderas (past Lubbock) 109th (he had a round of 1000), $23. Jason Moore (San Angelo) 251st. I suspect there are others that I just missed in this field.

Advanced Masters – This was another pretty large division with 111 players. Jack Tabor took 2nd, $230 (his round ratings started at 969…and got slightly worse each round). There were several TX players near the top. An Okie, Joe Rotan won overall. Ron Klein 7th, $180. Rocky was 52nd, $20. As of today (8-2), there was some confusion in the sores as they are listed, as there is a gap. Matt is shown to have finished 52nd. Matt said that he just could not get consistent…okay round, bad round, good round, bad round. Joe Acosta (Ft. Stockton) 82nd.

Advanced Grand Master – Vicente almost had to play in Adv Master due to schedules, etc. Just before the tourney he got into his correct division….and finished 28th of 69 players (50-59 year olds) and got $33.

Advanced Sr. Grand Master – Bill Leslie (NM) got 9th, $33.

Advanced Sr. Grand Master Women – Sue Leslie (NM) 5th, $60. The oldest player in Worlds history, Olive Bolander, played in this division. Olive is over 80! Go Olive!

Now to the low age divisions:

<16 - There were some Swedish players that really came to play. In the <16 division with 25 players, Oscar Stenfelt tore up the courses at -41! He had three 1000+ rounds. Second place finished at -17. Dillon, in his first Worlds, finished great at 7th, for $60.

<13 – Braxton Dow (Clovis) played in his first Worlds. Braxton got some great experience and will be around for a long time.

<10 – Drew Mosely (Levelland) finished 2nd also in his first Worlds. Also in the division was the youngest ever player at a Worlds (7 years old).

The Teeboxes at Blue Valley were very....very cool. I don't think on there were two that were the shape. The also had extra concrete poured behind the tees so you could set your chairs/bags on it so you could have a flat place, and not sink if you were playing monday in the rain. I have not played many courses with as much elevation change as in KC....but Blue Valley was also the first course I have played on that listed the elevation change on the hole. Which was a nice touch.

Over all Water Works was my favorite course that I got to play. If I had played Blue Valley earlier in the week it might have been it. But I heard great things about Cliff Drive and Thornfield....wish I had time or my arm(hurt it the week before worlds, but there was no way I wasn't going, or wasn't going to finish...even if I had to finish lefty...which is what I am doing tonight at the wednesday mini) felt like playing them.

I had a blast at worlds!!!!
