Just want to start getting the word out. Dallas parks is in the final steps of approving several new parks for course development, but it looks like they will not be providing any funding. It looks like players will have to come up with funding for these courses. We (Lone Star Disc Golf Alliance, Dallas Disc Golf, Dallas Area Disc Golf, and Titledisc) are putting on four events this summer to raise funds for new course installations. The first will be June 20 (Saturday before Father's day) at Samuel Grand Park.

The second will be July 12th at Lawnview Park

The Events will be PDGA C-Tier charity endowment events.
Dallas Area Disc Golf is a federally registered 501c3 Charity dedicated to the installation of new courses in the greater Dallas area and will be the charity for the events.

this is a great chance to get out and support new courses being installed in DFW! TitleDISC is going to be helping with payouts, and any profits that we make will be used as sponsorship for holes on the new courses. I'm particularly excited about Flagpole flats since I've played most of the holes already - I know that is going to be a fun course. Samuel Grand and Lawnview also look very cool. Gary said that the City of Dallas is willing to install a ton of trees and even build up some hills on the Lawnview course to make it more challenging. Way to Go Dallas!

Cool. Because looking at the layout Lawnview was viewing like a big lawn with few trees.
Gary, what is the complete list of courses Dallas is looking at developing? It doesn't look like you have update the news section of LSDGA in a while. Towne Lake is still listed as McKinney tournament course with approval.
any news on Plano's disc golf plans? Ranch one11?

No news on Ranch One Eleven, but I haven't talked to Scott in a while. The parks under serious consideration at the moment are Flagpole Flats, Norbuk (across the road from flagpole hill behind the baseball diamonds), and Samuell Grand.
Lawnview is a request from the community and parks is connecting us to them. There are only four holes that really need new trees and landscaping to be great. Of the rest, there are only two ho-hum holes. All of the rest are tough and visually interesting.
The reason for the long open holes is that the community wants to tie the course to the dart rail station and parking going in across Scyene. So holes 1 and 18 are at the corner of Lawnview and Scyene which is very far from the rest of the trees on the property.

I will know in a couple of days if we can reserve the area where hole 19 is on this map.
If we can reserve that area, then we will use the 21 hole tournament layout.

I walked part of the course today. The park is in good shape. I forgot just how cool some of the shots on the course are. It might not be that long, but there are still some tough shots in there.

It has been awhile. Can anyone give me the exact locations of the new Ft Worth courses?

OK, all of the events are up on titledisc, and should shortly be up on the PDGA schedule.
Course maps are at http://www.lsdga.com/dncct
Please get the word out post some flyers. We'll have permanent sponsorship opportunities posted soon.

I walked around at lunchtime today at Lawnview, got my shoes and pants nice and muddy, but I didn't see any signs of the course being marked out. Has it been?
gnduke
Jun 14 2009, 04:54 AM
No, each course will be marked about two weeks prior to the event in that location.
After a meeting with the community members in Lawnview, the course will have to be adjusted for play. We will have to use the existing parking lot also since the Dart light rail station parking lot has not been completed.
The bulk of the holes will remain the same, but 5-6 holes will change.

I didn't see a parking lot for the park. Are you thinking of the parking at the elem school next door?

Have you got lined up all the temp baskets you will need for Samuell-Grand next week? I can bring a Hoser if you need one...

There is parking between holes 1 and 18 and off the corner of 19 going to 20.
I do not think there will be any parking issues.
Dirk is arranging the baskets, check with him to be sure.

Gary,
re: Parking - I was referring to Lawnview, not SG.

Parking at Lawnview is in the southwest corner of the park (near the soccer fields).
There is overflow parking on the grass beside the sometimes partially submerged paved parking.
Parking will be at the dart rail station when construction is complete.

Is OMB vs YGB going to sponsor any tee signs at the DNCCT events?
Only $25 a hole.

lets get together a few bucks for sponsorship from the club. TitleDISC is already in for at least one teesign per event plus we're doing payout at cost. OMB-YGB should be able to scrounge together a few bucks on top of that to help get these courses in the ground.
The Sam Grand course is pretty sweet, btw :)

Too bad we couldn't have saved Samuell-Grand for last. I'm afraid that the Lawnview course is going to be a letdown when compared to it.

Well, you will get to play Samuell Grand again this year. The Dart rail station parking will not be completed in time for the event and the design relies on a large number of trees, some earth work and a bridge. There are about 6 holes that would be out in the hot sun with no shade and no obstacles to speak of.
The community is planning to start a fund to help pay for the installation of the course and we will be working with them to get trees planted in the correct locations and earthen berms built to add some interest to the long holes and discourage rollers.

discourage rollers.

Then again. it may make rollers more fun since there will be a chance of getting some airtime off the berm.
The longest two holes will still be flat (one sets for a backhand roller, the other for a forehand roller).
Two holes will have berms that cross the fairway.
Three holes will have berms that shape the fairways.
There will be berms added to separate greens from nearby fairways.
The roller comment was in jest.

Hey, when you get old, you gotta get sneaky sometimes, and my roller came in handy at Samuell-Grand.
But, after walking the perimeter of the east side of Lawnview, I suspect that what you are calling berms are actually going to function as levees.
When we get to the point that we have enough baskets where we can rotate, say, 2 courses among three locations, I think that Lawnview is a wise choice to be odd man out during the rainy season.
