The City of Brownfield is interested in disc golf for (likely) Coleman Park. We spoke with city reps about five years ago. Much time and effort and money went into installation of a city pool. But, now there is a good chance for disc golf in Brownfield.
Coleman Park is a great fit for disc golf. Lost Draw runs N/S right through the middle of the park. Thus, there is some elevation to work with. There are many large trees, some of which are evergreens in the park. I'll be visiting more with city reps in the weeks to come. More later.....

The meeting is on for next week. I sure hope this one (a course) is a go as Coleman Park is pretty good (if we can really use all of it). I seem to travel through Brownfield quite a bit these days and it sure would be a good sanity break stop.

My meeting got somewhat cxed at the last momement. I was not able to meet with everyone as planned. I did still get to visit with a P/R rep on what areas are to be available, preferrences, etc. They're checking on a few things for me. I've many pictures (prior to meetings and then after this meeting). I spent several hours walking the area recently. The park has a draw that runs right through the middle and actually splits in the course also. There is general elevation at the NW end, along most of the East side, and along the SW side. There are some really nice berm type elevation areas that will come into play. Most of the trees are the typical elm trees, but there are quite a few evergeen trees and bushes that will be worked into the course. The difficulty will be to fit an 18 among the pool, tennis, volleyball, baseball, several buildings, playgrounds, picnic tables, and so on. I've got a very, very preliminary design (I can share if anyone is interested). If you're familiar with the park and want to input thoughts, please contact me.

Dang. Did another design version...just was not satisfied with how things worked. And, I'm not sure if the new version will work as I'm still waiting for word on if a particular area will be available....if so, the course will have a true tight tunnel shot, along with all of the other things it will offer. This course will be a very, very good course to play....more later.

The particular area is not part of the park. But, they are to check to see if maybe it could be donated at it is really an unused portion of land. It would really be great if the landowner would agree....at least for us as the area is basically full of trees. So a cut here, a clearing there, an alley defined here and there and we then could have a placement drive shot, then a precision shot into the trees to the basket. Then a true tunnel shot while inside. Then a shot do a tunnel to get out, and then up a hill. Pray. We're putting together a brief budget soon.

Jun 11 2009, 06:12 PM
Success! The owner was contacted and he agreed to donate the small portion of land to the city! I hope that the area will greatly enhance the course with at least portions of three holes. City leaders did a preliminary budget for disc golf. They'll be finalizing soon (I'm to help them out a little). I really don't have a grasp on when a course could go in yet. But, it will be a good one.

I did complete a budget proposal for them a few weeks ago. They will evaluate and decide what options they will pursue. I believe that final approvals will be in mid July. More to come....

The first round of DG was played in Brownfield. Well, sort of. Matt and I threw most of the holes in the layout. We only threw to areas where there likely will be baskets. I'll again make a few adjustments here and there. Overall, flow was good, assorted shots encouraged (will adjust), and elevation/terrain/obstacles usage was good. I think the course was fair with a few ace/birdie opportunities and several much, much tougher holes. I think that the signature hole will likely be a long downhill shot that must be placed well to then hit a tunnel leading into the newly donated trees. And Matt liked it. After I clear up some things (playground areas, etc) and walk the course with the city parks dept, I'll likely do a portable basket event. I've still not heard of the status of the proposal, etc. from the city.

I tried to meet with them a few weeks ago, but schedules did not work. The this past week met with Scott. We toured the entire course hole by hole. We'll have a few issues to clear up as expected with some playgrounds, new proposals for other projects, etc., but we'll work through it. Scott is very excited about disc golf in Coleman. I may speak at a meeting or two to get others excited...mostly about how cheap DG is compared to other proposed projects (among all of the other benefits of DG). I may play a mock round with a few city emps to actually show them the course layout. I'm using distance and foliage guidelines (I think there will be some issues with some of the other park use proposals....may have to allow for a few 'tweener' holes as the fit into the park is pretty tight. I’m also trying to get a feel for expected scores via the new scoring program. More later.

Meet and play last week did not work out. Last Sunday Matt and I did go out and helped out on a few of the holes (for about 4.5 hours). Today is another possible go out, set a few portables, play.....

Sep 30 2009, 12:20 AM
About six of us set up portables and played the course several weeks ago. Pretty much everyone seemed to enjoy things. We played doubles, me cali (got tail kicked). I think everyone reallllly liked the long elevation holes most...duhh.
I seem to be passing through Bfld quit a bit lately. So, I work on the course an hour here and and hour there, then four hours over there. I extended hole 12 basket locations and made a pro tee location almost for hole 14. Hole 13 will take much work, but it should be fun to 'carve'.
As far as local contact, things have been light. I suspect that the City has many end of season things going on.
AND Brownfield ISD is looking at a course on a flat, nearly no tree area (the area makes McAlister look like paradise...ha). I'm thinking of a more of a pitch and put and maybe a putting area and a long drive area.....then they 'graduate' to the other course.

Oct 25 2009, 12:47 PM
I've worked many times and many hours in 'carving'. I'm really ready to start playing the course if I still remember how to throw. On 10-26 the city is to have a crew of prison workers help cleanup the 'tree triangle' of trash and branches. I probably will work the area a couple of more times prior to portable tourney.....

Brownfield Portable Basket Tourney - Noveber 7th, 2009. 8:30-9:00 register (none after 9:00), 9:15 meeting. Round 1 will be doubles from rec tees ($5/person, semi random draw). Rocky succesfully got us free hamburgers for lunch!!! Round 2 will be singles by several (TBD) divisions ($5 am, $10 pro). Ace and CTB are part of entry. Meet in the center of the park. Probably will have headquarters at the amphitheater. Please bring baskets a little earlier if you have them as we'll try to have portables on all 18. This is a good opportunity to impress Brownfield officials concerning DG benefits. The city really, really is looking to back DG, so let's show them good numbers of players and let's play ice bowl rules (no whiners). Contact me, Matt, or Rocky for more info/flyers, etc.

Hey Patrick, can you email me a flyer for this event? I'll add it to my weekly updates I send out on Tuesdays. Don't know if I can stur up any interest, but I'll do my best. Would love to come myself, but I'm still recovering from shoulder surgery...if it feels good enough though I may try to come play lefty.

The weather is going to be perfect for this Saturday's first (portable) tourney in Brownfield. Rocky got us all free lunch! We'll have a few things to give away (hint). Scott (local parks rep) was on local Brownfield radio this am (Wed). He also put an ad in the local newspaper about the tourney. Soooooo, local-ish disc golfers, PLEASE c'mon out, we (disc golf in the region) needs the support. Register and setup 8-9. NO registraion for morning round after 9. Then lunch, then round of singles.
Scott got the amphitheater (and building) for the tourney. It is located in the central area of the park (parking is to the east and west of the building). This building is going to be great for tourney use as it is central....tee pads for 1,2,3,4,5,8 pretty much are stone (disc) throws away.

Nov 06 2009, 02:30 PM
I worked at the park Thursday and got tee's and basket locations marked, many I had to do in the dark (I hope they're okay). Maps, etc. are made. We do have the use of the amphitheater (and clean restrooms). Parking is actually to the east and south of the amphitheater.
Once again, please bring portabeles if you can....and early so we can setup. Also, there is the possibility that we may have some very new players....maybe a few extra discs to borrow, a bag, a mini, etc.
Also, we'll have some CTB's, ace pot, etc. All donations are greatly appreciated.
Let's show Brownfield a great disc golf outing. The weather is going to be great. It's supposed to be 55 degrees at 9:00 am, 10 mph. At 3:00 it's to be 76 degrees, 13 mph.

Nov 07 2009, 08:18 PM
Done. Home and unloaded by 5:15. We played semi-random draw doubles in the am from the rec tees. CTB on hole 1 JJ T. (Lubbock) first, Matt R. (Lubbock) second (paid discs). Tie for first with a 46 - Steve M. (Levelland) / Finnen McC. (Amarillo) and Vicnete T. (Lubbock) / Darren L (Levelland). Followed by four teams of 47. No morning ace so CTB top two for discs (not sure who won). Then, in the afternoon singles round, CTB on hole 9, Rocky L (Levelland) first, Steve M. (Levelland) second. No ace hit, so CTB - Marcus (Lubbock) hits a 150' shot for the CTB. There were four singles divisions. Pro - Marcus ties JJ with a 56 and then Marcus wins the playoff. Adv/Mstr - Rob L. (Lubbock) ties Derek L. (Levelland) and then Rob wins playoff. Int - Rick L 'The Bagger' (Levelland) wins. And the most important division, Rec - Lisa G. (Clovis) takes her first win ever!!!!
Also, 'a most important', was that Scott J. (Brownfield), the local park's rep, played with us in the doubles round. His 'up' partner (me) did not help him out much. But, one could see that his throws got much better with every hole played. It would be very, very good if we can keep him playing. As athletic as he is and as fast as he progressed....it should not be too hard.
Overall, I was pleased with the layout, flow, holes, etc. I'll look in much, much more detail at the scores. I plan to utilize the score evaluator. Generally, from what I observed on my card and a few behind (while I was not paying attention to my play) is that scores were spread very well. A few tee locations will be moved as I had to put them in more friendly safer positions today. Concrete probably will 'bump' scores acorss the board by a stroke....so, I feel scores are about where they should be. It was fun, the weather was great. Bbbb -ddddd - bbbbb - ddd - bbbb.....that's' all folks. Quick nap, quick snack, party at the Overton!
p-katt
Nov 10 2009, 12:05 AM
Yeah. I used a version of the the score evaluator. The score spreads were really, really good. Only three holes were 'questionable'. I already planned to change them anyway. Hole 2 was the surprise hole. I very much expected more 2's. I suspect that either there were more ace attempts that resulted in 3's or layups that resulted in 3's. I'll make slight adjustments to get better spreads. After runnin the numbers and getting some input, making some slight adjustments, I feel the course is nearly set. It is such a neat advantage to run portables to see how things really work out. I'm having so much fun on this part of getting a good course installed....yeehaw!

I spoke with Scott (Brownfield Parks) recently. He said that there is much excitement about disc golf in the community. There was a recent (after the tourney) article in the paper about disc golf (Rob was in the picture). So, there still are hurdles to cross, but we should do fine. Sometime, likely in December, I'm to speak with city officials on the course. More later.

Update - none. Several of you have been asking when B-field will go in. I've really not heard from them. I'll check and see soon.

Mar 14 2010, 07:30 PM
We're back in the saddle again. It looks like we will progress to installation of the course. A playground area is to be installed elsewhere to allow more room for DG. New restrooms are to be installed...in a better location than the old ones. But, sadly, it looks like we'll not be able to utilize the 'tree triangle' on the SE edge of the course...remember there were three holes that used or partially used the area. Dang, dang, dang. More later.
p-katt
Mar 27 2010, 01:42 PM
Still dang, regarding loosing the 'tree triangle'....spent many, many hours picking up trash and fixing the area. But, my alternate plan allowed for this possible loss of the area. We simply very slightly shorten hole 12 (the one from way on top that threw into the trees...maybe down the road we could get a basket postion still into the trees). We'll completely scrap hole 13. We then shorten hole 14 tees to just inside the park line (maybe have option to move tee into trees in the future). The hole becomes 13. The next hole plays about the same. Then the next three holes get affected (have to add in an extra hole). Hole 15 tees from apx same area as old 14, but to the NNE up to corner. Then hole 16 tees from corner area using diagonality of trees to SW across the creek. Hole 17 tees move slightly up slope (acutally becomes a better hole than prior). The new scenario is only a blip less in challenge of the prior scenario. Hole 16 may be an improvement. I'll be visiting them soon, doing final layout, etc. They said that they really want to procede quickly. I will push to get tees AND baskets in together. Comments?

Apr 07 2010, 07:05 PM
Get ready. I met with City Operations and City Parks today. They are going to order baskets soon. I'll be doing the final pad layout in the next week or so with changes noted above and from the score evaluator from the portable tourney some time back (only slight movement on three holes). 'Quickly, but correctly', seems to be the phrase we used many times during the meeting. Concrete pads will be installed (likely 5'x6'12' and 5'x6'x15'). Get ready for another high quality course in our area! That's my new goal....no courses in the area that are not designed well or grade poorly.
p-katt
Apr 24 2010, 01:19 PM
Final (or near final) course layout will be done soon. The plan is to get concrete in quickly (always a relative term). Baskets will be ordered and installed soon after. All is good for DG in Brownfield!

May 02 2010, 01:19 PM
Okay, I mean looking really good. City reps have been touring the area courses. They're looking at the good, the bad, the ugly...and want to make sure they get a high quality course installed. So, things are looking good. Last week, Ryan (from Hobbs), helped me do the first nine tee and basket postions. I went back later in the week and got a few more done. I'll try and get the rest, about four holes, done soon. I've been told that they want to start concrete this week (as in May 3rd week). My measurements have been pretty close to my walk distances on the flat areas, but more variation on the slopes (I'll need to work on my slope up and slope down strides). Things are coming together well. The front nine personality will be generally shorter, but with more obstacle and a little more OB exposure. Someone could play it pretty fast at lunch, etc. The back nine will 'fix' a few two's that you get on the front nine. The back is generally longer and has much more up and down slope exposures. I'm pretty excited about the course. Can't wait to throw at baskets from good tees. When things get put in and set, yes, of course we'll help Brownfield have a kickoff event (like Plainview April 2, 2010, like Hobbs May 8, 2010)....more later.

May 14 2010, 04:44 PM
Well dang. They got sidetracked with getting the pool ready and a key person's sickness. So, pad installations are on temp hold. I've got most marked, but still need to finish (been VERY busy lately). I hope to finish marking in the next week (or so).

Aug 10 2010, 12:30 AM
Mark x 5. Hopefully five is the majic number...with help this time from Matt, we used Roundup so that the pads will be marked a while. The plan is for forms to be placed this week, concrete coming soon. Yeah x 5. Well, yeah x 18 and 36! More soon. Soon as the pads and baskets are in, I'll let everyone know and we'll have a quick kickoff event.

Hurry, wait, go, stop, mark - rain, re-mark, mow, re-mark, rain, mow, rain, mark x 4 more, bus breakdowns = loss of labor, emplyee issues, and so on. Still, once this thing goes in, it will be a really nice course to play....but when?!!!!
p-katt
Sep 23 2010, 02:12 PM
Soon. Concrete is being poured, some in the wrong locations/directions!!! Forms are in for many more pads, some in the wrong locations/directions!!! #$%#@!!! Ten pads were poured and finished near slick!!!! %^&%*! Still working on things, adjustments maybe. A really nice course took a hit. Baskets are in but not yet assembled...in a couple of weeks will plan to install. Course sign to be coming sometime. More later. When ready, we'll have a kickoff event...stay tuned.
p-katt
Oct 08 2010, 12:39 AM
All 36 tee pads are in! Red tees are 5x12x6. White tees are 5x15x6. The first poured pads are slick, but the city is to go back and 'rough' them up. Most pad forms were corrected for the angle to the basket locations. Really, only hole 1 white is off noticeably....very playable though. Some of the tee pads are on sides of slopes so there was very considerable fill material needed (key will be to control erosion well). This is REALLY going to be a fun course to play with great trees and good elevation changes. Remember, baskets were ordered and are being assembled...NOT installed into the ground yet. They're working on tee signage, course signage, bridges and stepping stones, etc. I'll post here when the course is ready to play.
p-katt
Oct 13 2010, 07:53 PM
I'm getting calls and emails concerning the course, so I thought I'd update. Baskets are not yet in the ground. They're making sure the course is playable for everyone, even new players, so they want good signage, etc. The city is getting ready. There have been several newspaper articles about the course. An engineering firm is actually making the course map....should be very nice. So, I'll update as things happen.

The back ends of the rec tees were all painted red. The back end of the pro tees were painted white. Basket locations are presently marked with a stake. No more news other than progress is being made.

Oh the rain! Brownfield got (I believe) about four inches of rain mid last week. Heavy rain and fresh soil don't mix well. There was quite a bit of erosion around the new pads. I was through Friday and then again Monday. Work was done to put more soil onto the eroded areas (still need much more or other means). Baskets not in yet...but soon.

Oct 28 2010, 11:01 PM
Baskets are IN! Great concrete tee pads are in for BOTH pro and rec. The course is beautiful. Go play Brownfield Disc Golf!
There are things that did not go in as was planned or in the design. There are a few issues that can be taken care of, but the course is absolutely a pleasure to play. Please take an extra disc or two and give one to someone from Brownfield. Let's really help them get started.
Okay, I believe that Matt, Eric, and I were the first to play a full, clean, round. I had the first birdie (hole 1) and the first bogie (hole 3, hit a tree, hit a pole, stupid was present). We all tied the first nine with 28's. I had the first five with stupid rearing his head on a missed 10' uphill put. Matt and I were tied with one hole to play. Stupid threw. Matt took the win with a 60....I guess the course record at this time. None of us played that well at all in beautiful weather. Suspect a 54 will be a very, very good score to have in the future.
I'll post directions, info at dgcoursereview.com and also at pdga.com soon.

Oct 29 2010, 11:58 PM
There were players from Lubbock and Levelland at the course today. All comments about the course have be great! The city really spent alot of time today tweaking, fixing, cleaning, etc-ing the course to make it more playable and enjoyable for both the seasoned players and the new to the game players. They put arrows on the tee pads to every basket....so no problems finding baskets. They put white and red markers on the baskets in the direction of the next tees....so no problem finding the next tees. So, go enjoy the course at Brownfield this weekend...and bring that extra disc for a local...and invite them along to play a round.

Hunted (quail season started), then tried for birdies at the disc golf course also. The city really put thing in high gear. The course looks really great. Still tweaking....but arrows are in place on the tee pads, colored tape is on the baskets. Go Play BDG.

Red tee pictures are up at dgcoursereview.com. Several Lubbock players played the course today...new course record of 55 (Bo). I believe that he'd of had a 54 but had an OB.
The parks dept took care of many, many, many little things at the course this past week. The course looked great. Tee markers and a course sign will be coming soon. I'm thinking of a possible early December event....

Nov 11 2010, 11:46 PM
Got to play B-field again today. Played the red tees. Almost aced hole 1, went six down on front nine, then could not seem to get a birdie on the back nine (even). We had the first (likely) lost disc. Rob put one way up in a tree off of hole 12. I was pleased how the rec holes were quite a bit different than the pro tee holes, not just by length. It was dark when we finished. The back nine does not have hardley any lights at all. The front nine is mostly lit for night play. Coming soon will be a practice basket, bridges/crossings over the creek, tee marker signs, course sign. Second basket locations are in the plan, but will not go in until at least spring 2011. There are still tentative plans for a kickoff event in early December.

Nov 20 2010, 01:47 PM
Tee marker signs are all in and look really nice. A practice basket is now installed. There will be an 'around the nine' installed. Directional signs to hole 10 were installed. Mando markers will be installed Monday. We'll get the second basket locations marked sometime and begin work on some really, really nice second locations....even more elevation and challenge to come!!! Local players are on verge of organizing. They're planning for an event on December 4th. The city will begin promoting in the local paper, radio spots, and flyers around town. The plan is to have a semi-random doubles in the morning. In the afternoon we'll then have a singles by divisions round. Locals are securing sponsors. So, we'll probably have a ring-of-fire, CTB's for each round, ace pots for each round, and so on. I'll have much more information and a flyer out very soon. As alway, a few donations (discs, etc) are always greatly appreciated. Any help on the day of tourney is greatly appreciated.

Well, the word is out. I sent flyers to many of you. Dang, that Lawless buch can't attend...takes out a bunch of good players. Something to note is that Levelland is going to officially 'move' their Saturday play to Brownfield on the first Saturday of the month...spread the word. Also, remember that Plainview hosts the second Saturday of every month....spread that word also.
Scott and I were on the Brownfield radio this morning promoting disc golf in general and especially disc golf for the locals at Brownfield. It went well (always wish I would have said x, or y, or this, or that). Toby will begin holding Satruday at 10:00 weeklies soon...probably more so after the Dec 4th tourney though. Happy Thanksgiving all.

Nov 28 2010, 12:33 PM
Seven Littlefield players traveled to Brownfield Sat. We went ahead and played singles in the am, from rec tees. Well, as far as I'm aware of, the first ace for the course was hit. On hole 6 red tee, shortest hole of course (along with hole 1 rec) at 220', Manual, from Littlefield, hit a skip ace. Then, sadly he took a double OB 6 on the next hole:( We then played a doubles round from the white tees in the afternoon. Well, Manual again throws on Hole 6, now from the white tee....line is good, skip, tips ring of basket, and just be a few inches misses his second ace of the day (on the same hole). Other highlights....Mark played very, very well in the morning round. He hit a long shot for a two on hole 11. I hit a good put for a two on 17 from the white tees. Hole score variances are looking good. It seems that one has to really play every hole correctly to score well....nice.
Course is all but ready for next weeks tourney. Weather for Saturday is to be mid-upper 60's and clear.

Yeeeehaaaaaw!!!! As I was headed into Brownfield from an Odessa work trip, I got a call from Toby (Brownfield local player who is getting sponsors, beginning to form a club, will be running Saturday weeklies and first Saturday monthly, and etc.). He is in process of asking a few friends around town for dotations/sponsorship. Well, it turns out an old friend of mine will be donating $600 to the tourney. Lonnie King of King Auto will be a very generous sponsor of the Kickoff Tourney! Lonnie is a Slaton friend from the past...and he married my cousin.
The course is really playing well. The parks dept continues to fix and clean up assorted minor things.
Weather forcast is GREAT for a disc golf day...especially in a risky December:
Partly Cloudy High, 72°F, Precip 20% , Wind: From NNW at 13 mph
Sunrise: 7:37 AM, Sunset 5:42 PM
Satruday December 4th registration - 8:30 am to 9:30 am.

Yiiipeee!!! In addition to the $600, there are now many more sponsors coming in. I know of donuts and coffee for the morning, several $25 certificates for meals, Walmart is donating, United Supermarkets is donating, among others! The YFL (I believe) is to be cooking hamburgers for lunch! Toby marked a few OB's (fences will be added in a couple of areas later). Mando's and drop zones are marked really well.
There will be many, many prizes and cash to be given out at this kickoff event. If you know of anyone in the area towns that is thinking of playing, this is the time to jump in.

Okay, here we go. Brownfield’s first tournament is in the books. Highlights – Buzz and Chris now know how to run a tourney, new course record (54), five women players, three junior players, and assorted local sponsors including Lonnie King’s $600 made payouts really good.
In the morning, we had some pretty cold gusty wind. The day was not looking good. But then, for the most part the wind speed dropped and the day clear with some wind. We did the Ring-of-Fire at the new practice basket (with a ‘swirl nine’ course). Closest-to-Basket holes were designated (hole 1 in the morning, hole 4 in the afternoon). We paid out the top two each time. In the morning round, Jose took first, Eric took second. We had an ace pot for each round also. On hole 6, Jordan’s start hole, on his very first throw….ACE….and about $75. We played semi-random best shot doubles with everyone playing from the red tees. We paid out half of all of the teams in the morning round. There was a tie for first with Bo/Sam and Dillon/Andrea throwing 46’s. For second there was then a three way tie with 49’s. It was great to see quite a few very new players enjoying the course…and the payout.
In the afternoon we played singles. Women, rec, and juniors threw from the red tees. Advanced, Pro Master, and Open threw from the white tees. The wind was not too bad; Marcus set the course record at 54. Dillon was second with a 56. Bo was third with a 58. I took Pro Master with a 57, Vicente had a 60, Rob had a 62. Since I was in the top three of the Open scores, I got to play in a Final 3 holes. I set up three safari holes that started and ended near the amphitheater. Marcus, Dillon, Bo, and I played the long tough holes and finished right at dark. Shawn won advanced with a 60. Jose and James W finished tied for second with 63’s. There were five women players! All were paid out. Chelsy took the win with a 59 (red tees), followed by Lisa (64), Andrea (69), and a tie of Anna and Jes (83). For the Rec division, Artimeo shot a 56, then Toby (57), then Brandon (63). The three junior players played in the rec division and all were paid out. The CTB was hole 4 down a slope, across a creek, through trees, to the basket. On the last hole of play, Vicente put his disc under the basket for CTB (nobody was CTV…closer-than-V). Second went to Brandon. There were no aces hit for the afternoon round. We had a throw-off and paid the closest three shots. I took the CTB (yeah, nobody was CTP). Chelsy took second. Cody took third.
I’ve not done a detail score distribution check yet, but the scores look really good. The numbers of holes where a card in the Open or Pro Master division had the same score was very minimal. There were instances of 3,4,5,6 on a hole (5) and 2,3,4,5 on one a hole (6) on the cards. Many, many holes resulted in three different scores on a hole for a card. I suspect that there were many box changes. I was glad to see that OB was not really the factor. For the group only six players had OBs….comes out to only 0.37 OB’s per player. I made adjustments from a portable round some time back…shortened a few, lengthened a few, brought trees into play more or not. I think the adjustments worked out okay. From the white tees, not necessarily in this tourney, holes 1,2,3,4,6,8,9, 11, and 17 have been birdied (to the best of my knowledge. I figure that 7, 13, and 14 are ripe for a birdie (will need a pretty good arm though). If inclined, send constructive comments please.
A BIG “thanks” again needs to go to Buzz and Chris and Toby and Scott. The tourney ran really smooth with their efforts. Remember, Toby will now be running a Saturday 10:00 am weekly event with special emphasis for out of town players to visit on the first Saturday of each month. Looking much further ahead, there is now talk of a sanctioned event next year. Also, Matt will be working again on the High School DG Championships and is considering Brownfield for the event. And, there are plans to put in second basket locations….some will be more challenging, some will bring in more ‘opportunity’. We’ll try to keep the course balanced well. Elevation will be enhanced via some mounds in key locations. A course sign will be installed very soon as well.
More later on everything…and oh……BROWNFIELD DISC GOLF!

Secondary basket locations are marked. The front nine will get considerably more challenging. Hole five becomes very tough. A few acable hole locations are added on the back nine. Hole 12 will be roller acable. Hole 13 will likely be in the remains of the dead tree. On both the front and back nines there will be great use of mounds to enhance elevation. These second locations will really add to the course enjoyment. I'm already in 'can't wait to try them out mode'!
They'll be adding a fence or two, possibly taking some out, adding a couple of bridges, fixing some mando issues, trimming a few trees here and there, an just really making this course great! The parks dept has done a great job! Toby is planning on getting club and local events moving along in 2011! Matt has agreed to have the Texas High School Championships at the course (May 2011)....hmmmm, maybe the second locations could be utilized.
Oh, remember to plan for Brownfield's First Saturday of the Month event - register at 9:30, play at 10:00. (they'll also have weeklies at the same time as well).

53 is a smokin score. 48 is probably the doubles record but not sure. I got the second locations marked...I feel the front nine gets harder, the back nine slightly easier.
Matt has a TX HS Championship meeting tonight in Brownfield. I know that they are really excited. Maybe a 'warm up tourney' to be coming.
Most importantly, we're transitoning to facebook and dgcoursereview.com for information on Brownfield disc golf. I'm likely to not pay for the Affilated Club Program this year. Toby has a facebook site - Basket Bashers of Brownfield started.

Goto the Brownfieild facebook page and check out info at dgcoursereview.com. The course is playing VERY well. Course sign is in now with info posted on back. Practice basket is in and with an 'around-the-nine installed. Coming in late winter and spring 2011 will be some more bridge and water crossings. A few fences will be extended to define OB a little better. I marked second locations and plans are to install by spring. We will have elevated basket locations on several holes! A mando will be added on hole 3 due to the new position. Hole 5 becomes very tough...it will have two mandos to reach the second location. Otherwise, go out and have fun! The Texas State High School Championships will be held at the course in May 2011. The city is really behind hosting the event. Highly encourage your HS friends/relatives to play...payout will be very good, fun will be excellent. The club is moving along with every Saturday at 9:30 sign up, 10:00 play. Emphasis is on the first Saturday weekend of the month for area players to compete.

Then, the Texas High School Championships will be held at the course on May 14, 2011. There may be an event held at the course later in the year as well. Visit facebook (bashers).

The TX HS DG Championships was a great time. Kyle (Lubbock) won overall, followed closely by Isaac (Plainview). Isaac had the best single round and won long drive. Brownfield won the team competition followed VERY closely by Littlefield. Pictures are at Texash High School Disc Golf on facebook. Brownfield DG is booming (or bashing). Player numbers are up tremendously....and they continue to grow. Big numbers are playing each Friday night.

Course play is great. Many local players escape the heat by playing at night...on Friday's almost all night as in nearly to sunrise. A recent ace was hit at around 4:00 am (suuuuure). :)

Oh, met with Parks/Rec recently on status of second location installation. They want to move to get working on them soon (next few months). My plans for the second locations will really enhance skill sets needed on every hole. More fun ahead for Brownfield. What a great success that disc golf in Brownfield is....and more and better to come!
