Man, the scheduling for these events is not the ideal situation this year. At ALL. Am Nats is the next weekend. I'll have to qualify for that the week of which costs $20 or close to that. Plus the price of admission. The piece that sucks is Am Nats wins my love hands down so I have to forego DGLO which is a cool event. And of course....there's that possibility I don't qualify and don't get to play either weekend. Worst scheduling ever. And on top of that, all of the spectators will be at Am Nats playing while the pros are playing DGLO. Gotta make it difficult to get sponsorship. Great way to segregate our community. NIZE!

It was not A3s preferred choice of weekends so, don't blame them.

Apr 22 2009, 12:42 PM
june seventh is also the 2009 harley davidson raffle in taylor and allen iverson's birthday. i think it is malicious to assume joe was passing blame, mark. he describes dglo as a cool event and is obviously very upset by all of this.

Apr 22 2009, 01:47 PM
Not intended to come down on the much-esteemed Mr. Antilla.

Just trying to express that it was not how they wanted it at all so, if people are not happy, they should know that A3 is not happy either. Let alone now an event on the MDGO schedule was canceled (Club Dead Shoot-Out) so that both events could be ran on the same weekend like in years past and avoided all of this. That last part is what I would find the most frustrating actually...

i am sure william will leave a detailed answer setting everything straight.

I was not suggesting that it should/could be changed now. Too many plans & accommodations probably have been made...

Not sure who's to blame, but it doesn't seem like ANYONE got the weekends they wanted in south-eastern MI this year. There's been a lot of scrambling from what I've seen.

The NT in Michigan, while a great thing, displaced tournaments in June. So, factor that in with the MDGO Featured Events in June/July, the PDGA scheduling NTs (out of state A-tier/NT halo) & then AM Nats and that is where the problems lay.

It was not any 1 person, 1 club, or anything. It was just an accumulation of all it and unfortunately DGLO was caught in the middle.

It is too bad that DGLO Pro and AmNats conflict. Spectator and volunteer attendance will suffer for both events. On a more personal-issue level, I am extremely disappointed that I won't be able to caddy for the esteemed Mr. Anttila at Am Nats. That would have been very cool.

What to do, except make sure it doesn't happen again next year.

Apr 23 2009, 12:07 AM
Oh the scheduling crap we had to deal with.
DGLO couldn't be on the first weekend of June 6-7 as the tractor pull was at hudson, couldn't be on the 13-14 Am nats, couldn't be on teh 20-21 cant remember why NT in K-zoo maybe. Big big pain in the butt for us you and everybody.

We did not want to do it this way it was the only way to even have a DGLO short of looking at august or september.

Sorry Joe
But a little more good news
DGLO AM is a 2010 qualifier for AM Nats. the first event for 2010 i think, 15% of the AM1 field will qualify.

Sorry Joe its not like A3 wanted to be kicked to the curb for its 28th annual DGLO but we allowed it to happen so here we are. Joe if you play or play into AM nats you get a nice player pack sure. I would suggest finding a way to do both our player pack for DGLO AM will be extremely nice. Retails above $70 that is the price that A3 retails the items for.

Unclemercy Mark is correct A3 found it self in the position thanks to the PDGA and the MDGO scheduling processes which don’t seem to care about events with 28 years under its belt! We landed where we were left in 2009. 2010 is another year though. We at A3 took no offense to Joe comments and appreciate his dilemma and hope he can find the money and time to do both for his benefit.

Sorry short of attacking people I cannot reply more than that I don’t want to offend or attack people or entities like to many people do with A3 events. I will take my lumps as I always do from the usual detractors. I will try to take the high road while they speak foolishness and cluelessness on the low road. Thanks unclemery for the comments as well.

No whammmmbulance’s needed here take them to your house.

Take Note disc golfers, there is a $200 prize being added to the first place payout Sunday in AM1 (Advanced) at Discraft Great Lakes Open (DGLO AM), This prize is being sponsored by DiscGolfersR.us Throw Shop.
Come out and see what you think of the changes to the Monster course completed over the last few weeks. This may be the largest single first place AM payout in DGLO History, says “Terry Calhoun”.

With the Pre-Reg system being down and not looking like it will be up before Sunday June 7th. We will be accepting cash less registration via email to me William Gilbert cyferban@aol.com or via phone 734 449 4300, this is my company phone line.
Please supply your name, spell it if necessary, phone#, Division, PDGA#, PDGA status current or not, Ace Pool Y or N $5.00. Email would be preferable method as all of the information will be readable. The $10 Day of Fees will be waived with the pre-reg system being down. You can register Saturday as well if you would like or Sunday Morning.
Thanks everyone.

Thanks to our sponsors DISCRAFT, CJ's, Discgolfersr.us, Kaces, Dexter Pub, Aubreys, Buffalo Wild Wings, Subway on whittaker rd, hudson mills.

Thanks to the Calhouns and Discgolfersr.us for the $200 merchandise prize added to the AM1 prize winner Jimmy Bates won but split this with Jamie Mosier as they tied for 1st in AM1. This $200 was in addition to A3's payout's.

best score posting turn around in a3 history. that goes a long way for the fans of the sport to be able to follow a tourney... and, the more fans you get, the more sponsorship opportunities you're afforded. good job, all.

Used to be that first place ties didn't split. Did the PDGA change that rule?

i've never seen a first place tie in the open division where the $ did not get split. the norm is most definitely to split the booty and play off for the trophy.

cyferban
Jun 08 2009, 04:44 PM
Note Jimmie Bates took first in the playoff and Jaime mosier 2nd, they opted to split the cash that was there choice. And actually there was a $5 difference between the split.

There was no open division this was an AM tournament only.

Alright, I slept on it twice & am still pretty steamed over this tournament.

First, kudos are certainly in order for the amazing player packs, no denying they were the best outside of Am Nats. Even though I lost my alum. water bottle running to the second round tee off. The radar gun was also a very, very cool side game to pass time while others were cashing out. Did anyone ever top 72mph?

The bad part, Lunchtime... where everything went downhill. I rode to the event with 2 Am3 player, I played Am2. After my card finishes the first round at about 1:30 we are told that the second round may be starting at about 2:00... what? yes, a half hour from when we came in. Well, that was pushed out to 2:15. Here's my complaint. The Am3 players I rode with did not finish their first round until about 1:50. So i get to my lunch which was locked in the vehicle I rode in... I scarfed down my lunch, changed socks & started running to my hole (12 Monster) the 2 minute warning was blown before I made it out of the parking lot. Despite running straight through the brush I didn't make it to my hole on time (i was tied for 3rd place overall & top of the second card.) I made it there as my group was walking off the tee pad & informed of my penalty, taking a 7 on an easy par hole that many players took a 2 on. This penalty cost me 2nd place outright & about $100 in merch. Try as I may to come back from the penalty it surely took away any momentum I had from finishing strong the first round. I managed to claw my way back to -1 for the round with 9 birdies. Basically trying to ace run everything possible in hopes I could have gotten a legitimate platform to voice my displeasure with the majority of players. I had a few good runs but missed out.

I would not have been upset or penalized/late for my 2nd round start had the TD announced this ridiculous staggered start before the first round. It would have been simple to make arrangements, either take the keys or put my lunch in vehicle from someone on my card. Springing it on us at lunch time was complete & utter B.S.

The played pack, payouts & radar gun side game were all very cool. The total screw up of not telling us about the donkey staggered 2nd round start was horrible. I stopped by No Foolin to watch awards & participate in the basket toss & heard a lot of complaining, figured I'd still give DGLO a shot, the player pack helped a ton in that respect.

NEVER again with a penny of mine or anyone I can sway in my direction go to A3. I understand you cant please everyone in a crowd of players that large, but to totally ignore this lunch thing during the player meeting was horrible. Thanks for the lesson guys.

~Jesse

Hopefully the lunch was good.

You really have to be tolerant of a few screw ups to play tournaments in Ann Arbor. Or Ludington. Or Lansing. Or Midland. Or Grand Rapids. Or Cedar Lake. Or Waukegon. Pretty much anywhere, disc golf is run by disc golfers.

There is no rule on lunch, is there? There are so many rules in the secret rule book, you never know. As far as screw ups go, not announcing the quick lunch was kind of a mild one, assuming there is no rule. It just had a disparate impact on you because of your carpool situation.

We announced our probable quick lunch this weekend at the morning player meeting. We had thunderstorms coming in the afternoon and wanted to get done before it got ugly.

why do you hate lunch, bruce? It's the fat calories, mainly, and not lunch in general. There are some lunches I'm fine with.

congrats to bill and all the a3 people who made this event a huge success. no event runs perfectly and there are always LITTLE things that can be improved but i thought this was one of the best, if not THE best event run in michigan year to date.

the line at reg. (due to alot of people showing up at once) was efficiently worked down. your advertised 9:30 a.m. player meeting took place right on time along with your 10:15 tee off. i liked the staggarred start to the 2nd round(due to some divisions playing long tees), otherwise we'd all be there handing out awards at 8:30 p.m.....please add to your "tourney improvement list" to make all players aware of this at the player meeting so they can plan accordingly. the awards and ace $$ throw off were completed by 6:25 p.m.!!!!!! this was an event of 2 24 hole rounds, 144 players with some long tees being played.....wow....thanks for allowing most of us to get home at a favorable time!

PLAYER PACKS AND PAYOUTS!!!!! are you kidding me! i've been to many events all over the country and not too many events give you that much stuff for a $50.00 ENTRY FEE!!! much thanks go out to cj's, terry and sheila calhoun discraft, etc.....awesome job!

it's impossible to run good/smooth events as a td unless you have excellent volunteers and you had a boat load of capable/friendly/hard working people who DESERVE every players appreciation. i know from personal experience that volunteering does not help your play....these playing volunteers deserve ALOT of thanks for their help.

bottom line: you guys did a great job and i'll be telling everyone i know to continue playing in these well run events!
