For those of you who havent heard:

On Tuesday nite, 4/14, Toby Clarkson went in front of the city council with a parks representative and they convinced the board to approve a proposal that would expand their park from 18 to 36 holes. The proposal also replaces existing baskets with new ones. All 36 holes with have a new basket, tee sign and concrete tee pad. Safety and warning signs are also included. The council approved $39,200, which represents $22,000 for baskets and signs, $14,000 for equipment to clear fairways for 18 new holes. The city has lots of property around the entire park, lots of good holes out there...Live Oak Disc Golf Complex??? sounds LODGiCal...
As of now, we have four weeks or so to mark tee boxes, fairways and pin placements. As the special projects coordinator, Rick McNutt (KingRat) will be involved as well as Toby and myself. If you own snake boots and would like to be a part of this team, let me know...

The old baskets can be recycled as we see fit...They would like to place a basket or two at their elementary school(Ingleside) as would Flour Bluff schools. There is also the Rockport project that Geoff spent so much effort on, possibilities are endless, raffles prizes, payout, etc... ;)

woo-hoo you should have geoff go back out there and design the new area. and rockport could really benifit.
if i remember correctly...depending on how well the memorial park course went, the city had more land they were considering turning over to disc golf. but raising the money for the course didn't go too well. i had a map of the proposed layout, but i'll have to find it.
it'd sure be nice to go HOME for a weekend and play some golf while i was there.

hell yeah, thats badasss Man.
it would be well worth it to put a little of that fairway clearing money towards a good course designer.

Awesome news, Mike!

Good work from Third Coast, as usual...Ingleside is prime for another course, and if I was down there I'd be happy to lend a hand. If I remember correctly, Mike Olse wanted (in my opinion) too much for course design, but after playing Manor a few times, it might be money well spent. There are a lot of lines out there (Manor) that less experienced golfers might not have thought of. That said, the locals have played Ingleside enough to know what the course is lacking (elevation ;) distance) and what's already working so well (shule). There's no doubt a few good minds could put together 18 awesome holes to compliment the already awesome course that Houck designed. Either way, I look forward to visiting sometime and checking it out. Concrete and tee signs are a nice bonus.

As for the baskets going to Rockport, someone would need to visit with Tom Staley (Dir. of Parks) and see if the contract we worked with them is still plausible...Mando, I'm looking at you. The problem is, the way our proposal was worded, we would basically donate the equipment to the City of Rockport and they would get final say what happens after that. When I met with Tom those few years ago, he mentioned some land the Parks Dept. was going to acquire, so there may be better options I'm not even aware of.

Anyways, it's always good news to hear about more disc golf holes on the horizon, and even better when it's in your backyard.

I was also impressed with Manor, but thats a lot of money...will get a game plan going with Mando on Rockport. There have been lots of interest since its been re-mentioned.

w/ the city paying for all that, the club could pitch in on the designing. Tournies out there would do alot better w/ everyone knowing there going out there to play some sick courses, and bigger attendance could pay for the design....

That seems so reasonable and logical...So?

Its not a 3C project. Toby working with the city and with Innova, our hands are somewhat tied, but we (3C members) will discuss with Toby to see whats up... I agree we could draw more participants with a brand name designer, but it was made clear to me that bigger and better wasnt necesarily in our best interest.
Our initial goal this year was to get rid of some internal rif raf that was causing the club to go backwards...Then we can start moving ahead with some job descriptions and goals!!! :D

Duece or die? Not sure if any one else has seen the comment Avery Jenkins made about Ingleside

"When I mean short, I mean really short - 12 of the 18 holes were short, spike hyzers over these small trees with one hole over 400 over water. Needless to say, we scorched the course with a 40 (-14) to tie for first place with Matt Hall and Erik Soete."

Simmer down now....
Mike Olse is going to design the new course. He is gonna take a look at what Toby and the city have drawn up and make his changes from there.
The problem is the time frame the city wants to work with, initially we didnt think Mike would have time, but he is willing to do what it takes to get us taken care of...
Avery and his comments were regarding doubles the day before, he didnt fare as well during tournament play at Live Oak... As I recall there were several comments regarding all the trees from the pros... EMac didnt do great out there either..

Erron- give me a call so we can discuss... we are careful as to what extent club business is discussed on this website. Not everyone is working in the best interest of the club or the sport...

I agree with Lance. If the opportunity is there, I say we try to make long holes. There are already enough reachable pins in the original design.

D*mn Lance, you haven't offered anything constructive in this thread, yet you've posted in it more than anyone else. Is it really a wonder why you've been exiled to the 'outer circle?' It's like that old saying, if you don't have anything good to say, turn your computer off.

..can't say [censored]?

Here we go again...If you don't want me to respond to a post do not mention me. Outer Circle is not any kind of exile. My best friends and the love of my life are there.

By the way Jackie and I are getting married on the 9th of May at Ingleside on or near hole 14 at noon depending on the weather. We do not have any thing big planned not even going to have chairs. However if anyone would like to come celebrate with us I will have some beer and we may play a round of golf before we leave town.

You know what I mean, and no hard feelings...on happy subjects, congratulations! Laura and I kept our wedding small and intimate, and I think it was much better that way. Given current situations, we're not coming down that way for some time, but wish you and Jackie all the best!

So I was lucky enough to see the new course design layed out on paper, and though it is impossible to get a feel for the holes that way, I do know that it is 18 holes, PAR 64, with a 1000' finishing hole. Get your ego buttered up.

Guess 1000' fits that nicely. Careful what you wish for maybe?

Just played the newly designed Circle C and Manor. All I can say is if Olse does Ingleside right it will have some serious teeth.

Awesome... I'm looking forward to having my butt kicked by a harder course!

Let me know if installation help is needed; Toby said city would be doing the work, though, or at least most of it.

Fairways are being cut, and look to be super mean. Should be good times.

Walked the newly cut fairways today. Not knowing which way things are going to be played makes no difference. This is going to be a fun and difficult course.

Had a chance to walk the back 9 with Toby last weekend, and Ingleside just got really tough. Given a few years all the errant shots into the shule should help thin out the fringes, but as it stands it's almost a hit the fairway or die course. Can't wait to see what the front has to offer...
