Big Spring, south of Lubbock, east of Midland/Odessa, west of Abilene, north of San Angelo, has two courses. The big course of 27 holes is at Comanche Trail located just south of Big Spring. Two primary dg events are held in Big Spring each year. The Big Spring Fling is this weekend (April 18/19, 2009)....81 holes of play....the survivors usually are the winners.

You can say that again....but it sure is fun trying to survive!!! San Angelo should have a good size crowd up for this one this weekend. Greg always puts on a good event!

(hint: the tourney shirts are going to be Jerzee moisture movement shirts, they feel really nice and cool while wearing them)

Bring the water and Gatoraid. I just talked with Greg. He said the course was looking very good after a rain in the past few days. I actually got to drive through the course a few days ago and it is pretty green-ed up. He said the weather is to be great all weekend....and he's right:

No doubles for me....81 is enough!!! Plus today is my 10th anniversary, so I'm just lucky to be going this weekend at all.

I hear you stopped by Eola, and they still didn't have their baskets in. You must have sturred them up, they've got a 4 hole course in the ground.(will eventually be 9)

First...Congratulations on the ten years (I'm assuming being married...not drinking brew beer or playing DG). Yeah, if I'm in within a hundred miles or so the sirens go off for a brewery alert. I've been trying to make it down there for some time and just have not had the opportunity to do so until the other day. Once again there is a perfect marriage (sorry for the conneciton) of good beer and disc golf. I've spoken with Rick Rothstein and with SW Brew News on doing an article slanted from each angle. Both said it was a great idea...if I would write it. As I drove away from Eola on my long, long drive I counted 62 breweries that I've encountered. Along the same thought, I'm at 199 DG courses and likely Plainview will be number 200 (likely mid June...hint, hint).

Mark was fun to talk with. I got the tour, a taste of the upcoming lager, and a good burger. Glad I could 'help' with the four baskets.

Yeah that is married....beer would be longer, and DG would be shorter. :D

I'll have to do a count on courses, and breweries...I know you got me beat, but would be cool to keep track.

Big Spring – The West Texas Disc Golf Champions Tournament was held April 18, 19, 2009 in Comanche Trail Park. Eighty-one players tried for the title of West Texas Champion in nine divisions.
The weather was normal (if orange skies and high winds in the afternoon are normal) and J.J. In the Open Masters (40+) division, Rock Stewart of Amarillo won on the fifth playoff hole over Matt Ryan of Lubbock. Carl Wamsley of San Angelo won the Open Grand Masters (50+) division while Frances Rogers of Abilene won the Open Women’s division.
On the amateur side, the Advanced division was won by Frank Muniz over Ozzie Baiza, both of Ft. Stockton. Intermediate champ Anthony Aguirre of Odessa, Novice champ Omar Calderon of Ft. Stockton and Junior champ Stephen Rogers of Abilene round out the winners.
Big Spring players included: Chris Brooks, 3rd Open; Mario Rodriguez, 8th Open; Chanz Reed, 9th Open; Freddie Holguin, 11th Open; Tommy Tune, 5th Open Grand Masters; Rich Neefe, 8th Advanced; Robert Saiz, 11th Advanced; Jerry Rushin, 20th Advanced; Wendy Riffe, 2nd Women’s; Jesse Saiz, 8th Intermediate; Mike Thompson, 10th Intermediate; Coley Hollandsworth, 8th Novice.
Our sponsors assured the players would have a good time by providing free discs, t-shirts, a meal and water for the weekend. We would like to thank the Big Spring Convention and Visitors Bureau, Sonic Drive Ins, Parks Convenience Center, KBYG 1400 AM, Blum’s Jewelers, Culligan and Rocky’s Tex-Mex.
The next disc golf tournament in Big Spring will be held on the Birdwell Park course—the 17th Ever DiscOver Big Spring tournament on October 4, 2009.
