The disc golf Mecca that is Huntsville, Alabama has expanded to 6 courses. The new ones are Monte Sano State Park where you can camp at the top of the mountain and play a course that will test every aspect of your game, and Dublin Park in our sister city of Madison. Dublin Park is a very kid and beginner friendly 9-hole course you can play with a putter and midrange. It will be a great feeder course expanding the disc golf community here in Huntsville.

Kudos to Zac Simpson and his crew of volunteers who spent countless hours working with the state park and hand clearing fairways at Monte Sano.

Thanks also to Lavone Wolfe for working with the City of Madison to get the Dublin Park course put in.

In additon to these courses Huntsville has:

Redstone Arsenal - a wonderful park setting course with a mix of golf shots and one of the "world's geatest" series of holes in #15.

Brahan Spring - a shorter but historic course set in a pine grove. This was installed by one of the Headricks in 1976 so it is one of the first basket courses in the country.

UAH - a monster of a course with tight, shots, water OB and plenty of length. A true pro-caliber course.

Mastin Lake - Tight, hardwood lined fairways and lots of elevation changes.

Only 30 minutes away is Athens with a long 18 hole course at the sportsplex and a fun 7 holer at Athens State.

40 minutes away is the Hartselle course set in a city park with a great variety of short and long holes.

Coming hopefully this summer will be another fulll length course with a ton of variety on the Indian Creek Greenway between Huntsville and Madison. Lavone Wolfe has been working hard with the two city governments to get this one done.

As you can tell these are exciting times for disc golf in the Rocket City. A disc golf vacation destination if there ever was one.

Did I mention the U.S. Space and Rocket Center (Where they have Space Camp) for the non discers in the family?

Huntsville has more engineers per capita than any city in the U.S. Backwoods we are not. Y'all come visit.

Just ask any of the ladies that attended the 2008 USWDGC about the quality of the courses and friendliness Of the people.

These new courses are fantastic. Monte Sano is a tough, configurable, world class course, set in the woods on the top of the mountain. Breathtaking vistas, creeks, and a Japanese garden to boot.

Dublin Park is a model of efficiency. Nine holes tucked in a remarkably small area, yet all with safe flight paths. Don't let the "short" distance fool you. The excellent use of elevation, natural obstacles, and pin placements make this deceptively simple course quite challenging; suitable for "Super Class" play.

I will second Huntsville as a disc golf vacation destination. The Redstone, UAH and Hartselle courses are all beautiful AND challenging for all skill levels.

I did get to visit the US Space and Rocket Center while at the USWDGC and it was the highlight of my trip. I would say the Space and Rocket center alone would make Huntsville worth a visit.

I can't wait to go back!!!
