I've been talking to a golf course owner in the area and he is very interested in us hosting an event on his property. He said we can do it anytime during the 'off' golfing season. Good thing us disc golfers don't have an 'off' season huh?

So, I am posting out there to let people know about it and to request any suggestions or feedback that people might have. It would be at least 18 holes (per round) and this year they would be portable baskets with the idea that we could maybe get something installed next year as a 'winter course' like we have at Dretzka.

I would assume I'd sanction it but then again maybe not? There is a full bar and grill right on site so they would work out lunch specials as well as after event specials. Of course beer and drink specials too.

Thoughts? PM me or post here if you'd like.

Singles? Doubles? What golf course?

Great questions Ben. I'm open for ideas and as much as I love doubles (especially in the winter time) I think this might be a good singles, PDGA C-Tier event. However, I'm open for ideas and suggestions.

I will be making a final yes or no decision about the entire event by Jan 22nd. If I decide it's going to happen the I'll be sure to have every possible detail available at The Big Freeze.

The course would be a TEMPORARY course set up just for the day / weekend. It is at a ball golf course near where I'm moving to and he's wanted me to come and do something there for a few years and this might fit perfectly.

Thanks for showing interest!

A singles C-Tier sounds fun. Since it's on a ball golf course I'm getting a Dineenish vibe... or maybe something like Dretzka's winter course?

I don't know what happened last night (3/4/09) but a few of my posts didn't seem to do just that - post. Here is what I wrote late last night:

Ka-Blam ...

4 of us walked around for nearly 5 hours today to come up with a 'working' layout for the event. This map is NOT perfect and it will be updated and adjusted but it gives you SOME idea as to what the course might look like. I'm hoping to find someone that can take my GPS coordinates and make a better map than the one I've made. As you can see - not super long but does use the water hazards on many holes. It will be FUN!

A few more registrations came in today but I didn't even get them posted just yet! I will sometime tomorrow.

Here is the map! (http://www.lifetimediscsports.com/events/CourseMapWLO.pdf)

Wow Terry thatsa lot of water in play, but only one long forced carry of water. I like the challenge though. Oh well I'll bring some bad discs for those holes, but I'll have all summer to find them if I do lose some in the ponds. It looks like you have put the baskets real close to some of the water too, without having forced carries. That is a nice use of the water. I assume the water will be open water by next weekend too, rather than iced over. Having played a few hundred rounds of golf there, I am afraid I am gonna look down the fairway and think that is where I need to go because I am so used to hitting my golf bal there, but I'll have to fight that urge.

Looks good! I am excited. I sent my registration in today via mail.

Hey everyone!

A few more registrations came in today. Please do yourself and the event a huge favor and get it done prior to Thursday night. Otherwise you might complain about the late fee or you might even get shut out. Anyone remember the Cold Turkey III a few months back? We had about 20 people just a few days before the event yet we got to 90 and I had to turn away a dozen people that morning. "Don't be that guy"

If you put your registration in the mail and it shows up on Thursday or Friday you're good to go. If you don't wish to mail it then you can use my online registration service (http://www.takeflighttoday.com/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=211) to get your spot secured.

We are planning on pulling up 16 or so mats from Dretzka on Wednesday morning. Also, we might need some help in setting up the course on Friday. Yeah - Friday. Heck it's nearly 7pm right now and you could just be coming off the course from your Friday afternoon practice round. Any help would be appreciated as setting up an 18 hole temp course is no easy task!

Thanks and please encourage everyone you know to get signed up sooner than later. Did I mention that all non-pros are receiving a custom stamped disc? You won't be disappointed!

Terry I am available on Friday after 4:00. I can certainly haul some mats out to Western Lakes in my work truck, or I could meet you out there to help with the setup if by that time you already have everything out there. How are you getting them off of the lower portion fo Dretzka???? With no snow the sled idea I had thought of won't work. I assume the parks people can't help you out with anything given how wet everything will be.

I sent in my registration via mail, I just wanted to check and see you received it. I sent it on the 5th so I figured you would have it by now, but i didnt see my name on the signup sheet yet.

If you are already done by the time I am available, is it ok to come out there and do a practice round on my own? I tried to PM you with this request but your message box was full.

48 & SUNNY on SATURDAY - Boo Ya

Just think - on 3/8/09 we had 17 people signed up. 3 days later and we have 40 signed up. How many more are going to get signed up and beat the late fee deadline which is Thursday night.

What did you say? You want a new and improved website that will eventually have 100 times the options and flexibility versus the older, TakeFlightToday site? Well, you got it! We know there are a few glitches and details which need to be ironed out yet but those will come very soon! However, in the meantime, you will have this brand new website to use for online registration! Let me know what you think!

Hey Terry, Is the course going to be open on Friday to play? If so what time and is there a greens fee? I may be able to help out if needed. I cant wait to play this event.

Great job today Terry, I enjoyed the course and hope to help keep it in the back of Essig's mind to maybe keep something working there. The only thing I would tell him in advance next year would be to take all the bunker rakes and stakes off the course beforehand so people dont use them to retrieve discs off the ice. He might not be too thrilled to see 5 missing rakes, but I am sure the stakes won't be missed.

Regardless it was a well set up course (thanks to you and Tom for the design of it). I liked it all especially having some of those baskets up on top of mounds, well that is until I 4 putted #3 in the second round from 15 feet because 3 putts rolled to the bottom of the hill and were 30 feet away. By the way I hit the basket everytime! It was a wonderful 6.

I do have one question, but I didnt have time to ask, I had my score totalled to a 75 in round one and 66 in round two, but after I saw the scores posted I saw a 73 for round 1. Do you guys do an adjustment or something to the scores or was it a clerical error. If it means anything I did take an 8 on #15 in round 1 so I thought that might have been adjusted or something, but I wasnt sure. Like in regular golf there are maximum scores you can post based on your handicap so I thought maybe that was the reason. It didnt matter because I wasnt in the money or anything, but I was curious why the score in the spreadsheet was not what I had on my card. It looked clear to me on the card too, unless I did add things wrong. Just let me know when you get a chance, I was curious.

Thanks again

Mike

Ka-Blam - SCORES ARE POSTED (http://www.pdga.com/tournament-results?TournID=8769&year=2009&include_ratings=1). Enjoy.

This isn't the final list or post but I have to send out a huge thanks to everyone that helped make this a success. Some of the biggest helpers that immediately come to mind include:

Greg Essig and Western Lakes Golf Course
Dane Miller
Tom Jenkins
Mike Schwieger
Jeremy Vils
Johnny Rumble
Mark the Shark
Mike Ellery
Basket lenders

Sponsors including Disc King, Innova, Lifetime Disc Sports, Flying Disc Magazine, and then registration provided by iRegisteredOnline.com (http://www.iregisteredonline.com)

Mike - I will have to look into your scorecard question - not sure off the top of my head. We had a handful of scoring and addition errors made by players today - maybe you were one of them?

Mike - thanks for bringing the error to my attention. I was just double checking the scorecards from yesterday (yeah - TD work is that much fun) and sure enough - it adds up to 75 and that's what was posted on the scorecard. However, between the scorecard and my finger tips it accidentally got entered into the computer as a 73.

So ... I already went out to the PDGA scores and changed them. The official PDGA scores (once submitted later this week) will also have the correct scores on them. Thanks for coming and thanks for the honesty.

Well thanks for trying to help out my sorry first round rating, I appreciate it! I know it was a simple mistake because I swore I saw 75 in black sharpie, trust me that image is burned into my mind. I just wanted to say I shot 9 shots better in round 2, it sounds better than just 7.

Now off I go to work on that rating!
