From the Pizzaman:
I got word this morning that Jimmy Porter is a GO!!!!!!
The baskets will hopefully be going in this weekend.
In other news, I also got word that another basket was stolen. That makes 3 baskets in Carrollton in the last year.
back to Jimmy Porter, the course is marked with distances on the stakes. I am told that the material to make some tee boxes has been donated. (crushed granite) but I don't know exactly what he was talking about.
After we get these back in the ground. We will work on the city letting us add 9 more baskets to Jimmy Porter to make it 27 holes.
I think Todd and I are playing the Fritz mini tomorrow if anyone is in

This golfer will appreciate it, since it is the closest course to my house, and I may appreciate it more, since if it keeps getting bad mouthed, I will not have any problems getting some quick practice rounds in, because I will have the course all to myself?
Are the baskets in yet? Is there a course map available?

If you are deadset against not skipping playing tonight, I would recommend Harrington. It plays very well after precipitation, you just have to tee from the grass.

Lake Lewisville Park is the best "wet" course in the area. However I've given up on golf tonight. Might try to arrange some Tigre Woods 10 disc golf on the Wii or something.

There are no baskets out there and if you walk the back side you will be covered in chiggars like you have never seen before
and I am not "badmouthing" anything. Bryan specifically told us what the problems would be in getting the new course back in and then all the baskets are placed exactly where they said they should not be.
It's my opinion, but I can guarantee it will never hold the appeal it did before and is currently very dangerous to anyone not golfing, but using the new trail through the course even if you are paying attention.
Very sad that Kevin had said all of us would get together and plan the new course and then just went ahead w/o input from anyone. Typical Carrollton Disc Golf - ideas made by a few who barely even golf out there, but don't want to allow anyone else to make suggestions or ideas.

Jun 11 2009, 06:30 PM
So, if there are no baskets out there yet, there is still the possibility of a redesign. Since you have walked the course, you should get ahold of Bryan and let him know where the trouble spots are, and what you think can be done about them.
okcacehole
Jun 11 2009, 06:44 PM
Bryan hasn't been out there himself unless it was in the last few days, but that boy works many, many hours each week
There SHOULD be the possibility of redoing some of it, but if the baskets go in, what can we do?
I don't want to hate all of it, but the course runs the sidewalk almost entirely..and that was the fear Bryan and the city had..and it is MUCH shorter now
a few original holes still is very nice and a few decent new ones, but the cons definately outweight the pros after walking it.
I would like to see a few others hike it (with some dryer sheets in the socks) and get their thoughts also, but the 3 of us were not impressed and more sad

Last Sunday, I saw the unmown prairie that used to be the fairways of holes of, I think, #s 9,10,15 and 16 while driving up Josey to go to Greenbelt. That didn't shock me that it was in that condition, since there are no baskets and the Parks Dept basically had no reason to mow that area.
So, what is this "dryer sheets in the socks" trick? Haven't heard about that one.

Did you get lit up like an old Christmas tree?
Haleigh & I played Porter yesterday. Looked fairly gross. Trash, tall weeds, construction equipment. I'm sure the out-of-town players will be impressed. Why are the casuals in Carrollton so destructive?
exczar
Sep 08 2009, 05:46 PM
You should have seen the tall grass and reeds in the creek right after it was reinstalled - it is much more navigable now. I was there on Sunday, but I didn't see much trash to speak of, and the construction material just shows that the course is still a work in progress.
What really freaked me out was the fact that the pond was completely filled in! I don't know if it was done on porpoise, or if it just silted in. I'm thinking it was the former case.
And, no, what I referred to above was strictly disc golf related, not something I was doing while I was disc golfing! What you were referring to ( I think) will never be seen again.

Casual beginners do not know any better as far as the trash. They leave trash around because they are retarded :).That said, there desperately needs to be more trash cans out there.

Not Duke, Dallas Area Disc Golf owns the baskets.
Speaking of baskets, we need hole sponsors for Samuel Grand (going in this fall after it passes one more committee). A full hole is $500 and gets you about an inch across the bottom of the sign and your choice of the remaining holes.
There will also be half and quarter holes, but they have to go into a pot and purchase a basket when they reach $500. If you get together with up to 4 friends and pool $500, you get a choice the remaing holes too. Half holes are $250, quarter is $125.

Hey Duke,
The Colony is expanding Bill Allen to 18 holes with some slight redesign. I don't know what kind of free time you have or what but I thought you might like to know. Possibly prevent another disaster like Shawnee's redesign. State coordinator design validation guy.
exczar
Sep 30 2009, 01:55 PM
Shawnee is the only course I have ever seen that had a new 9 holes basically overlaid onto the existing 9. Surely they are not going to do that at Bill Allen.
Good news about adding 9 more holes. That course has been there, what, 20 years or more now?
What type of time frame are they looking at for the redesign and installation?
Giles
Sep 30 2009, 02:22 PM
I don't know a lot about it. It will not be a "overlay" design. They are adding holes in the woods back by the pavilion. I did read a rumor about two holes sharing a basket. That is what prompted me to try to get Dukes involved. As for time frame of install. The city was looking for people to help install benches and tee signs the same weekend of MJCO. I'm sure the rain put a stop to that plan. This is all 3rd hand info though.

Ryan and I will be in town from about the 23rd to the 2nd. Looking forward to some Dallas sunshine and dg.
I will post here in the hopes of finding some daytime golfing buds. We will be in downtown Dallas, so we can get to most of the courses on the east side of the plex. Not too picky. Haven't hit Vetarens, Fritz, or Lake L in a while. Turner was nice. Never played CH when it wasn't raining. Rockwall ANYtime. Haven't seen the new one in McK. Is AudoForgotten still there?
Oh, and I guess I should ask ---- any thing local on the calendar for the 26th or 27th?
Thanks,
Ron Pittman

IMO Rockwall is THE must play in DFW. I'd be willing to bet Cedar hill has some pin locations that will be new to you. I like Towne Lake in McKinney, you should check it out.

Ron, good to hear you are coming, wish I was going to be in town to play. I'll be leaving on the 22nd 'til New Year's eve.
As far as the DADG vs DDG, DADG is not a disc golf club in the normal sense. It is a registered 501.c(3) charitable organization working to raise funds for disc golf courses in the DFW metroplex. There are only 11 groups registered with the IRS with Disc Golf in the name, DADG is the first alphabetically.
