I need some help getting this spread around. Wylie has decided not to put in the courses they had planned because they do not think there is enough interest to justify them.

A request for email comments from players in nearby cities or players that would be likely to travel there regularly to play two designed Houck courses in Wylie. The courses would be on the same property, or no more than 10 minutes apart.

The following is from John Houck.

Gary,

Let it rip. Here’s what my Parks Board chair says:

<<That's a great idea! I can't say if it will help or not, but it certainly can't hurt for them to know we have an interest in disc golf in the community beyond just me!

I think most of the messages should come from Wylie residents since ultimately they will pay for the course, but a few from neighboring towns like Sachse, Murphy, Lavon and St. Paul probably wouldn't hurt.

Please have him start an e-mail campaign so there are records of the correspondences.

City Staff to contact:

Bill Nelson (parks superintendent) bill.nelson@wylietexas.gov
Robert Diaz (recreation super) robert.diaz@wylietexas.gov
Mike Sferra (public services director) mike.sferra@wylietexas.gov
Jeff Butters (asst city mgr) jeff.butters@wylietexas.gov
Mindy Manson (city mgr) mindy.manson@wylietexas.gov

and please copy the park board:

Anne Hiney (chairperson) anne_hiney@mac.com
Dan Chesnut aggienuts@msn.com
Donna Larson donna@wylieprinting.com
Benny Jones bennyjones2@yahoo.com
Brandy Lafleur tklafleur@msn.com
David Willey dwilley@mckinneytexas.org
Frankie Delgado fvdelgado@verizon.net>>

And please also cc me: jrhouck@golfdisc.com

Please include something to the effect that you are interested in the courses and are likely to play the courses and spend money in Wylie while there.

How often do we have a Parks Board chairman asking for emails.

I've only seen one so far. Watts, aren't you in that area ?

Getting the chamber involved is always good. There are convention committees getting involved as well in several cities. The Dynamic Discs events in Lewisville are the result of direct requests from the city convention/tourism department. The Mesquite convention committee has already gotten involved in requesting a tournament on their new course. I believe that Titledisc will be running that event.

I don't know if Rockwall initiated their recent tournament, but I do know the the city was very much behind the event once it was scheduled.

emails sent.. :D And the City Manager already responded and it sounded pretty good to me.. ;) We all just need to put our 2 cents in!! :cool:This is what she had to say:

"Thank you for your input regarding disc golf. As you may know, we are about to update our Parks & Open Space Master Plan and a critical part of that process will be to conduct a Needs Assessment. Through interviews and surveys, we will get input from our residents to identify the priority list of improvements needed in our park and recreation system. Once we know the priorities, we can focus our resources on those projects and I’m relatively sure that disc golf will be on many people’s lists!

Thanks again for taking the time to give us your input, and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any comments or questions."
