Over the years, I've played this course several times. Last week while in Hays, we again enjoyed this challenging layout yet again. However, this time I really started to figure out where all the tees are and how to play each hole. Here are some thoughts about a few of my favorites:
#3 - The long tree-filled trek along the highway: I always thought the difficulty was getting past all those dang trees. What really is important is getting on top of the hill with your approach shot. Trying to get it close from down below is tough.
#6 - The basket next to the concrete steps: Yes, I enjoy these jungle basket locations but it causes one to cuss loudly. Don't forget to cross the bridge to find the next tee...
#9 - Blind shots down to the hollow: I love holes like this where there are multiple lines to try. The main line appears to be a tight low-hyzer. Someday, I'll want to try a up-and-over thumber. It'd be interesting hearing how the locals play #9...
#11 - Tight shot across waterfall: Somehow, all our tee shots could be found and we "star par'd." The dog enjoyed playing in the water next to the footbridge. A wonderful layout for a DG hole!!
#15 - Classic long tee shot over the creek/valley: I just love this tee shot. I screw up and end up left usually, but the 2nd shot is usually "do-able."
#16 - Over the creek one-last-time with small landing area: The RHBH hyzer route is available but must cross a bunch of water. Last week, my anhyzer went perfectly into the opening and landed by the big tree behind the basket!!
#17 - Under the bridge mando: I hate mando shots but this hole is a favorite. It is imperative to release the disc on the correct plane of flight!! When the basket is long and by the creek, this is a very long hole..
We will be back in Hays in August and will certainly play a couple of rounds at Frontier Park.
