i grew up in houston (got the F outta there as soon as i turned 18 though) so i'm used to it. the humidity for tomorrow is actually going to be below average for DFW...it won't be bad.
we played rockwall on wednesday afternoon right after a huge rain shower, and down in that #5/6/7 area it must've been 90% humidity. it was like houston at its worst.

Houston at it's worst. I think i've seen that. Many of us remember the days of playing several TX States in ankle to knee deep water on the Wilmont. Floating ant colonies, water moccassins, and lost discs 10 feet from the wide open field basket. Wouldn't have wanted it any other way!

Since teague said 70% in the morning I (without looking it up to be sure)
true enough, i actually just pulled it out my ASSignment folder for weather data
the news dork on the tv said it will be humid and muggy but not as bad as it could be, he gave no percentage

I remember one TX States where Sue Stevens had to tee on hole #1 Wilmont from waist deep(on her) water! It was classic!

I'm just trying to prepare a west texas type for the steam we have in DFW :)
Thanks for that....It is appreciated! I've played in a few Austin tourneys, so I am aware of the humidity thing. I've just never thought of DFW as that humid I guess.
Got about 25 more shirts to print and I am out of here(talk about hot, I've had 2 dryers going at 300+ degrees since 7am)....COME ON BRAD AND BRANDN GET OFF WORK!!!

I wish I did....He's only got a light lager, which is almost like budlight, and a brown ale...which is pretty good, but not the best beer to drink out in the heat. Besides, I figured it was your turn to bring some :p
BTW- didn't see your name on the list, are you playing this weekend?

Don't worry Jason, I think all the hot air just comes out of the locals mouths or from their vaginas in their pants. If it's a 100 in DFW, it's 110 in west Texas. Only thing is there is less water to drink in west Texas. I hear it gets to 110 degrees in Troy Coppels hot tub every night, so we know one of the locals will be used to it. My theory is the hotter the better. :)

Scores are up. 2nd round ratings are not correct. Layouts need to be set to differentiate Regular and Championship tees.

Those ratings are BS!
-6 the first round should be around a 1030.
and the -6 the second round should be around a 1040.
Anyways what a great tournament! Greg and the ADGA did a great job, plenty of water, everything went off on time, free lunch.

Might be better now.
I had the divisions split in the second round. These divisions played Championship tees:
Open Men
Open Masters
Open Grandmasters
Advanced Men
Advanced Masters
All others played regular tees.
Also, it appears par was calculated at 64. Par should be 63 for all layouts.

Greg, yuo did an awesome job! I cannot believe that was the first you have been a TD. All of the spotters, and staff made a huge difference as well! And you cannot beat free lunch!
I do agree with Chris that the round ratings seem to be low. Especially the first round, but that doesnt take away the fact that this was an AMAZING tourney! Great job Greg!

I have to say that, that was ONE HOT event, in more ways than one. :D
First off, Sports City, THANKS for being the title sponsor! It's not too often that C-tiers have TITLE SPONSORS. Awesome. Thank you!
Razzoo's, Thanks for the FREE lunch!!!!
Greg, you did a wonderful job. Things ran extremely smoothly. Everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves and i heard absolutley NO complaints, from anyone. I'm pretty sure most would agree that your inaugural TD event was a HIGH bar setting event.
Skip, as always, you are the man! Greg couldn't have done it without you and the other staff members. I bow to your greatness. ;)
If someone would have told me last week that i was going to beat Nolan and JD i would have said that the 1st place trophy would look nice next to my others.....but MILES!.... holy cow, that was some stellar golf on the championship course! You have come a long way baby! :DCan't wait to see more.
Hats off to Chris Flesner and Brice Longerbone as well. Brice came from the 2nd card to tie for 2nd, while Flesner and Miles were tied with just 3 to play.
Congrats to all of the winners! ClayDoggyDog!! Woof. :D
Was i the oldest competitor to 3 the mountain? I bet so. I bet i probably also used the most baby powder. :DWow! That was fun, but the cold shower and a/c last night was the best thing all day!
Way to go ADGA!
Ps. I almost forgot to Thank Brian Lamoreaux! He caddied for me the last round and i couldn't have done it without him. My only regret is when he offered to powder me.

Thank you to everyone for the kudos. I have always had a healthy respect for anyone who runs a tournament, and this gave me a whole new perspective on just how much time, planning, and effort goes into it. That said, there is no way I could have done this alone. There are so many people I need to thank.
Skip - Your guidance and willingness to be there at the crack of dawn and put in physical labor, and everything else you did is truly appreciated. I think I speak for the entire ADGA and DFW disc golf community when I say we are lucky to have you.
Red - Thanks for making the arrangements for ice and taking water out to the course before both rounds. I think all of the players appreciate this as much as anything else that was done yesterday.
Tom Latos from Sports City - your generosity allowed us to put on an event of a high quality that I don't think anyone expected from a C-tier event. I hope our players will return the favor by spending their dollars in your stores.
Don Q. - Making the arrangements with Razzoo's to provide lunch to the entire field was amazing. Letting players stay on site to eat kept the pace moving. Also, all of the work you put in at the workday really paid off. I haven't seen the course look as good as it did for a long time.
Pat - Having another experienced score checker was great. Getting 21 fivesomes and a sixsome back out on the course an hour after the first round was quite a feat.
Brice - The trophies looked awesome. I think everyone agrees. Thanks for getting those done with minimal notice and for a great price.
Dennie and Eric - Thank you guys for spotting on Championship 8. That hole had virtually no backup from what I could tell, and that has everything to do with having spotters available.
Bill C. - Thank you for helping get the scoreboard ready before round 1 and for spotting on hole 5 both rounds. It's not hard to get a backup on that hole with a single errant throw, and I never saw a group wait more than 3-4 minutes to tee off there.
Teague - Thanks for making sure I did not have to be up until 2 in the morning getting cards made out and put names on the board.
Pepper - Thanks for letting us use the baskets and getting them there early. The baskets were marked and ready to go before most players had even left home to come to the course.
Jimmy - Thanks for getting baskets moved during the week. Not having that task to do let me get things in order much more quickly.
Brian LammyHammy - Thanks for getting the baskets moved between rounds and staying late to help clean up. Also, thanks for carrying John's bag. I really didn't want to have to drive out to the field during the second round and try to load an unconscious jiggly mass into the back of the truck.
I know there are others that I forgot, and I apologize for forgetting. Every bit of work that went into this tournament has the utmost appreciation from me and all the players and staff.

We played 21 holes, but there's no way Championship 8 and 17 are Par 3's. Technically it should be par 65.

Jul 20 2008, 09:39 PM
I guessed the pars this morning at 62 and 66 based on the SSAs. So 63 and 65 would have been the same total.
I just updated the numbers with 21 holes and pars 63 & 65. Having the default at 18 instead of 21 depressed the intial ratings this morning. Looks like the regular course played about 1 shot tougher in the afternoon. Wind?

2nd round, 12mph hot wind:
Only Open and Adv played Champion pads on 1, 8, 13, 17, and 18 in round 2. Most of those holes require 2 great shots to have a reasonable chance at (birdie) 3.
Two pins (4,18) were moved to longer positions in which everyone had to play to.

Jul 20 2008, 10:02 PM
That's a third layout then - Regular Plus. Make sure that gets noted on the TD report. Otherwise, R1 & R2 will be averaged together for divisions not playing the Champ layout in the afternoon.

Had a great time this weekend!! That is one fun course to play...just wish I could have hit a few putts this weekend :( Could have been my worst putting weekend every(when I got home, I went out and hit 5 for 5 from 25'...don't know if I hit a 25 footer all day Saturday...those are the breaks, still though I enjoyed myself, as did everyone else that came from this way. You guys were right, it was hot out there....thank goodness you guys have some shade trees to hide in, that's something we don't have out here really...other than mesquites. Very fun weekend, thanks to the TD, and all the staff and helper that got this course looking great. Playing this tourney really makes me want to try and make the VPO....when it's cooler ;)
If any of you guys ever come out this way, be sure to look me up. I'd be glad to show you around the courses here in town.

Greggles, did you get that?
I'd be willing to bet that Veteran's Park has used more layouts than any other permanent course out there. I also highly doubt that it has been turned in correctly everytime. First off, all of our holes have at least 2 pin positions, some of them have even 3. We also have the option of using championship tee pads on up to 10 of the permanent holes(1,2,5,7,8,13,15,16,17,& 18), we use some of the old course holes(A-I) at times, and sometimes we make new holes out in the "texaco" field.

Yeppers, i know 1-4 are part of the funkytown network.
Don O'Connell, you let Claydog beat you! :D
Here's something to think about: How many bogey strokes did you take all day, for the 42 holes? I had four 4's all day long! No bogey strokes the first round, and only four 4's (6,7,A,18) on the championship round. I made very few mistakes but just didn't have the birdies to win.

Greg, Red, Skip, Eric, Denny, Pat and the rest that helped pull the weekend off, Thank you very much, it was a great day!!
As for Clay we didn't get to play together so it's a tough comparison. Might have actually played better if I wasn't trying keep up with the long throwing Masters. :) Although Clay is plenty long in his own right and should probably have been playing Masters as well as C23. :o:D
It was a bummer that the 4 Masters didn't get to all play together that last round. Maybe Q's strong play would have pulled David, Rob and I along that final round and we all would have played better. :(
As for OB shots I had 1 that resulted in a 6. And one throw so deep in the woods across the sidewalk on the right side of Champ 8 that I ended up with a 6 without a penalty. And that was 6 of my +8 strokes for the weekend right there.
