Just a FYI about this mornings meeting w/ The Parks & Recreation Dept.

First the negitive - we have to discontinue use of both empty lots untill futher notice. The Fritz Park Supervisor feels there is work that needs to be done on the lot that borders hole #2.
The lot behind #7 needs prior approval before we can use it any more. Even though we have to quit using these two lots I feel we have enough room for a short, but challenging hole between #5 and #6.

On a positive note - The Parks Guy I report to (not the fritz park super) is willing to walk these two areas with me along w/ the land behind 7-11 and across the street from 7-11 for a possible temp course 2 weekends a year. Mainly for The IDSA Club Championships this year. The two empty lots will be for use on Saturdays only after I walk these areas with the Parks Dept. and show them the area is fit for play.

We also talked about moving the newer baskets from Harrington to Fritz, but I have to make sure the sleeves at Fritz will work w/ the baskets from Harrington. We will have to post a notice at Harrington so if there is any opposition it will be before the baskets are moved. The Parks Dept wants as few complaints as possible from the players who use Harrington on a daily basis. I did explain the club is home based at Fritz.

Finally The Parks Dept was also agreed to meet with me and the City of Irving Parks Planner about a new park opening in 2011. We will also discuss expansion at Harrington and other parks planned after 2011.

Thanks again for your support. The Parks Dept. were really impressed at the membership numbers. I also gave them copies of the two disc golf magazines from this year and I think this really helped in showing Disc Golf is a real sport.

The City of Irving – Irving All Sports Association quarterly meeting was held last night at City Hall and was my first meeting as the representative of Irving Disc Sports Association. The IASA represents all sports organizations within the City of Irving and is our voice to the city. The IASA has about 15-20 different sports organizations they represent and is very active in helping all these groups achieve short and long term goals. During the meeting Irving Disc Sports Association was praised on our efforts in the re-organization of our disc club and the efforts made on re-building a damaged relationship with the city. Plenty of questions were asked about our club and answers were received with positive feedback.

During this meeting yearly dues were discussed as far as what they are use for. The IASA $100 yearly dues are strictly used for The IASA scholarship program for graduating seniors within Irving who participate in any IASA recognized sport. This means any Irving student graduating who plays disc golf and is college ready may apply for this scholarship. There are other requirements that must be met, but the fact is a disc golfer may receive assistance for college through Irving All-Sports. These scholarships may be $900-$1000, but if anyone has paid for college recently you know ANY assistance is helpful.

Disc golf issues discussed were the use of land that borders Shady Grove by hole 2 fairway. Doug Wilson with the IPAR and IASA represented our club on this issue and due to the IDSA efforts during the last 6 months the City of Irving has granted permission to use this lot on temporary bases. This lot may be use on Saturdays only until further notice. Doug Wilson has worked really hard to help The IDSA and has reminded me that image is everything to the City of Irving. This is a mini victory for us and hopes this will be the start of a many good thing to come.

Thanks again for your patience and also for your support. I firmly believe that with continued persistence our goals will be achieved. Just a FYI - We have an Irving High School Teacher who has agreed to help us start a Disc Golf Club at Irving High this year. This will be the FIRST such club in The City of Irving and really look forward to seeing how this will progress.

We are currently looking at the calendar events for the PDGA and local events so we do not conflict with anything. December has been mentioned, but I'm working with the city on a good time to possibly let us use the other side for a few holes. details soon.
