That would be great to get more air time. D/FW Disc Golf really needs to make a push for more exposure, so the corporate world knows all about our sport. This is key in landing the big $$ sponsors.

Great round there Adam - Thanks for the lessons not a bad day of golf for 100+ temp. Best part of the day "NEMO'S".

32 players for singles &amp; 14 for doubles. The extra hole was a challange - it was nice to have the extra land. The hole played a liitle slow, but over all a nice change of pace. Should play faster as players get use to the changes.

The Cedarville Tourney will be Aug 2-3 at Cedar Hill playing both courses 2 rounds each day. We encourage members to sign up and play Cedar Hill this weekend. Dynamic Disc host a great tournament and is always lots of fun.

I really hope there wasn't to much waiting, but for 36 players and being done by 1:15 isn't to bad. That's even with a late start.

Good Idea - Yes we can start posting weekly. I am actually working with a co-working on a possible web site for this year so we can start keeping this type of information. I keep information on every mini(scores-attendence-$$) so we can keep track of progress.

We need to schedule a Club Meeting soon, because I have to meet with The City this month and I would rather have a Club Meeting before I discuss our $ and our 09 goals.

February 28, 2009 Fritz Park Singles 10am - Doubles 2:30pm

Meeting with the City was an Irving All Sports Association meeting. This meeting has 12 different reps from all the sports associations within Irving. I did get to speak with Doug Wilson after the meeting about a basket exchange program. My 1 on 1 meeting is scheduled for mid March. We will have a club meeting first, so I get many opinons on what our main concerns are.

I did invite all the members of IASA to come see what DG is all about. These members are all the youth sports organization presidents from baseball to gymnastics. I hope to draw some interest. They did say if we made some flyers they would pass them out with their registration forms. I did get contacted by a Girl Scout troop about a possible intro to DG one weekend this spring. I'm making a push for youth involvement because this is what the Parks &amp; Recreation Dept. recommended.

I feel real good about more city involvement this year . We donated $100 to the city nursery for trees at Fritz Park. Mike Griffiths - The Fritz Park supevisor was really appreciative. We were also the first to pay our city dues this year $100 and this was really positive. Our $100 dues goes towards a scholarship account awarded to 4 Irving ISD Seniors each year. 4 - $1000 scholarships are awarded each year - I'm really proud for us to be part of someones future education.

Is Ziggy OK? I came out Sat. at about 2:20 to pay Mike M. back his $5, and there were only two guys there, and they said that since no one was there, they were going to go up to Lewisville Lake Park.

I actually went down to Mtn. Creek Park in GP. All 9 baskets were there, but I could not find one clue as to where the tees were. Not even suspiciously worn spots on the grass. Does that course get any play?

The Saturday Doubles seems to be feast or famine. Ziggy just fills in for me when I'm out playing in PDGA events, but only helps with Singles. It's hard to stay down there all day when Cedar Hill &amp; Lewisville have afternoon minis. Saturday Doubles will have players on occation, but I like to play golf on Sunday as well - Vet &amp; Gateway, so that is why I'm usually not there.

As far a Mnt Creek - We use to play that course about 5 yeasr ago, but some baskets were missing so we kind of stopped. There are no signs out there, but once you know where they are it is a cool place to air it out. I heard that some of the pin placements were moved and some holes shorten, but I personally do not know what is going on out there. We use to start by the Basketball court because of parking and when you finish you are right by the parking lot. Hole 7 is going to the left of the bb court and thats were we started. Hole 8 (2) tee pad is by the street throwing towards the basket in front of the play ground and works around that way. I guess I should check it out sometime because rumor has it that GP was wanting to put 9 additional baskets out there, but I do not know anyone that plays out there. Lots of land, but again I don't know anyone that frequents the place.

Irving Community Television Network will be at Fritz Park filming some Disc Golf action. They should be there around 9am and film some of the mini at 10am.

This was set up by Doug Wilson from The Parks &amp; Recreation Department. ICTN called The Parks Dept. for a story and Doug sent them our way. ICTN says it will be about a 5-7 minute story to be aired on May 10.

May 30, 2009 Fritz Park Mini - Singles 10am - Doubles 2:30 pm

Ziggy will be TD this week and back by popular demand Ziggy is going to set the course up backwards using the same holes as last week. If you missed last week and are not going to McKinney you are in for a treat.

Starting in June the Fritz mini will play the 10 backwards holes then the 10 regular holes.

If you get a chance to make it to McKinney this weekend head north. TitleDisc is holding a PDGA B tier 2 day tournament. Garry Roddy - Ken Reagan and Manny are all going to McKinney so if interested let us know.

any way of moving an upcoming saturday mini to turner park? went there yesterday....it's only like 7 minutes from fritz and might be the new king of courses in DFW.

I believe there is a group wanting to alternate mini's between Fritz & Turner, but I have not been contacted yet. The group heading Turner may want to have their own Sat mini every weekend so I really do not know what the plans are for Turner.

Robby Beach helped with the install of the baskets and he has been a long time Irving member. He lives in GP so I'm sure he will let us know what the plans are. I don't want to plan anything without knowing what their plans are.

Would love to never play WO again on the 2nd Saturday so playing GP would be a great change. I'm willing to do what ever, but we still need the Fritz mini to raise $$ every year. We do not have a city as pro active as GP and without club funds we dont exsist.
Hopefully with GP next door Irving will jump on the bandwagon.

I spoke with Jim Dart (I believe he helped with design of the course) last week. He said Turner will be the new home of the Lone Star Lasers Disc Golf Association, a newly created disc golf club that doesn't yet have any members. Apparently, they are planning to have minis on Saturdays at 8AM, starting in the next few weeks. Pretty early for disc golfers, but if we could move the Fritz mini back to 1030AM, it'd be possible to get in 2 rounds before noon on Saturdays :). Just a thought.
I agree that moving away from Harrington would be a step in the right direction, but moving to Turner might not be feasible. It might help us expand at Fritz, however, if the Irving Parks dept. sees what has been accomplished in GP without any real disc golf presence...

Ben, my wife and I might be interested in going to teams again this year. Our team from last year isn't going again (2nd place Carrollton). Are you trying to get an established or an emerging team? My wife Haleigh 33398 is one of the best am women in TX but you would have to take me also...

Does Jim know he is trying to start a mini in direct conflict with one of the closest courses? BS move if you ask me. Any idea on what the point of that club would be?

It would depend on whether we could persuade any Pros to join the team. There was some discussion about getting Nolan to join us last year, since Fritz is the course he grew up on, but I haven't heard anything more. I'm going to try to make the Saturday mini at Fritz this weekend to stir the pot. We'll see.

At this point, it sounded like the 8AM mini at Turner was more of a casual gathering than a formal mini, so it could be adjusted so as to not conflict with Fritz. I assume the purpose of the Lasers is the same as any other club, to help grow the sport and maintain the local course(s). I'm waiting to hear more from those involved in the design of the course and creation of the club, and then maybe I'll have some solid answers.

Just FYI on mini's - We are meeting with Jim Dart on Thursday to discuss what he has planned for their mini's at GP. I really think it will be a positive for both courses to work together to help with growth of DG in both cities. The Fritz mini is only attended by 15-25 people each week - sometimes more sometimes less. I think it's worth talking about.

I do not want to lose the oldest mini in the area, but again I do not want to miss out on the opportunity to increase attendance at Fritz. I really feel Turner Park in our back yard can be a major plus, but the future of Fritz my main concern. I hope something can be worked and feel confident something will.

I do think Arlington should also consider playing GP on some Sundays as well.

October 24, 2009 - Fritz Park - Singles 10am - Doubles 2:30pm Turner Park

Starting on November 14 and every 2nd Saturday after that we will be playing Turner Park in place of WO Harrington. The start time will still be at 10am and Jim Dart -Director of The Lone Star Lasers will TD.

For now only one weekend per month - I myself would like to alternate weekends w/ GP after the spring time change, but we will discuss this at a later date. Fritz/Turner in the mornings and Cedar Hill in the afternoon sounds like a win-win for everyone.

I believe Jim said he would still run a 9am mini on the other Saturdays we do not go over there. This is why an every other weekend schedule would be more beneficial. We can't keep anyone from holding mini's so rather than compete against each other working out a bi-monthy mini for both courses would be better. I can't make the decision for everyone involved with the IDSA and especially not the GP club, but I will push for the alternating schedule starting the sooner the better.

Jim did say he is willing to work with us and I feel he will see the benifits once the mini's get going. I myself would like the change of pace and having every other weekend off is a breath of fresh air. This would also give Jim two weekends a month off and get him to Fritz to play with the Grand Master group. Jim did give us the ok to use Turner as part of our Club Championships and that's the tenative plan.

I will know within the next couple weeks if November 28 is ok with the city. We will probably use Turner in the morning then Fritz in the afternoon, but I am ok with the other way around as well. Turner does have more parking and plenty of pinic benches, but we will see. I will keep everyone posted - Thanks - and that is all..........

November 28, 2009 - Fritz Park Singles 10am - Doubles 2:30pm.

This will be a regular mini - NOT - the Club Championship as we wanted to do. The City of Irving asked us to wait, so that we can use the added baskets they are suppose to install in December. I will know what the City's plans are the first week of December.

We will be setting up the extra holes that will be permanent in Dec. with temporary baskets. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
