Rich, in a perfect world what would be the optimal teepad design?

Well Mr. Smoooth,
I got a free custom dye job on my disc for just such a thing. Although I think I need to lengthen it up a little bit.
Goodday from your friendly neighborhood IoneCa.

What do you think about "L" shaped tee pads for 2 different holes?

Teemac

How about "X" shaped or better yet "T" shaped!

I'm thinking 'Q' shaped, for those with a big run-up.

Shall I bring a water bucket and we can have a slip-n-slide.

After a lot of consideration I think I've realized the elements needed for a perfect tee pad.

For natural pads:

First it must be a mixed surface. Hard-pan with about 15% pea gravel scattered evenly on the top.

The pad should never be level. A minimum of an 18% grade (up or down). If the pad can go up and down bonus points will be awarded.

KEEP PADS SHORT! Don't ever give the player a chance to be comfortable before he throws.

Be sure the area near the pad is small and uncomfortable for the waiting throwers. If the area can be so small that waiting players are actually on the pad with the thrower, this would be best.

An important and relatively unused (but comical) feature would be a 4" ridge running down the middle of the pad. I refer to this feature as the "Continental Divide TM".

For concrete pads:

It's important to have deep muddy trenches in the front and back of the pad. Banana peels will rot in the sun and lose their ability to cause injury, but a little well placed mud can turn a round of golf into a laugh riot.

Concrete is best when it's aged like fine wine. When the smooth gravel begins to show GOOD GOLF WILL FOLLOW!

Allow park workers to drive their heavy equipment on the tee pads. This is the easiest way to produce large cracks on the pad. Cobblestone is too expensive but after a few years of mowing, your tee pads will look (and feel) like the streets of 16th century Romania.

Don't forget tee sign placement! Be sure to place the tee sign on the front right corner of the pad. This way, if a player likes to follow through, (and why would you?) the thrower may have a hilarious collision with the sign. Comedy gold.

I think everyone should carry a yoga mat and put the teepad wherever the f#$% they please! Wanna throw a putter? Put the pad 100' from the basket! Think you're a big arm? Throw from the parking lot! Now that elusive -18 can be yours!

Wow! So much good information on this thread. I'm copying everything so when I go out to mark for our tee pads and signs, I can refer to it for guidance.

I'm almost reluctant to publicly discuss any thing that has to do with putting in tee pads for the public, but there has been some progress in that area.

It's nice to see that the tee pads are starting to take shape. Dig it!!

So far so good. Now if I could get the city to respond to my requests to access our money we could buy some signs and concrete to complete the task. Oh well, I guess I'll try sending another email, then I'll call and then it'll be next week and I'll repeat the process.

It sure helps to cc the head honcho when dealing with underlings. Same day replies from the P&R Dept. staff about the money. I'm hoping to pour by the middle of June.

So maybe I was a little optimistic for mid-June. I'm seriously thinking about a mid-week pour because of path traffic on the weekends. It seems we would still have good work pool to draw from for a mid-week pour. Anybody with concrete tools or experience can call me. 576-7975.

As of right now, I have set a tentative date for pouring tee pads on thurs. June 25. Depending on demand for deliveries I'm shooting for an early mourning pour; 7am would be the earliest. We should be done by noon in that case. Sorry KL. I'm looking for 10 to 12 guys that WILL show up that day that time, more people the better.

Can someone scratch a little pterodactyl head into one of them for me?

Thanks for the great turn out today. They look great. Zack did a nice job of taking the bull by the horns. Tim and Josh had em ready to go, and the pouring of the crete lasted all of 40 minutes. Thanks to everyone. Very Nice!

Lotta heads showed up to help. The early weekend crew (Dan, Dave and company) along with some O.G.s and some newbies. Even had a bikini clad babe saunter on through! Good times!

Oh yeah, the guy in the yellow shirt is an a$$ho7e!

I couldn't wait to throw so when I saw Jim Shultz Friday at noon at the pump house tee pad, he and I cranked out three drive apiece from the new launch pad. These pads are going to spoil us.

There is still more work to be done around the tee pads. The city dumped some loose dirt at the two pads that needed it the most and thanks to Jim Shultz, Mark and his buddy with Jake the dog (my memory sucks) those two pads have been filled-in. I know it's hot right now, but we will have to clean up some loose concrete chunks and fill the low spots around the edges of the pads. The sooner the better so the city will be happy and will continue to facilitate the installing of more tee pads and replacing the pins on the other side of the creek.

Sorry Mr SmUUUt, but we will have to delay that work detail due to the paying job I have to go work. How about a Friday morning time when the weather's fine and we have time to recruit. If you still want to get dirty with some golfers, I'm not stopping you. Rally whomever you can and do it.

Pat and I talked Wed. after work and we are going to meet this Fri. at 8am at the fire hydrant by the bridge. I'm hoping that who ever reads this (steelyone?) will get the word out to others who would like to help. I'll bring my shovels and a hose and with 4 or 5 guys helping we should have it all done in an hour or so. Thanks.

It's nice not to have to throw off of dirt and rocks any more. They get a little slick with sand on them so it's good to brush them off before you throw.
Overall, nice work, Baskethounds.

Wait until we put those tee signs in the front right corner of the pads. Should make it a little more challenging for the RHBH throwers.

...they would be put right in the front-middle of the tee pads. It makes it more exciting and equal for both righties and lefties.

No No...right down the middle...it's only fair.

I guess it would be better to hit my hand in my follow through (sign on the right side)than in mid drive(sign on the left side). At least my disc might get to where I wanted it.

Tee signs are in!!!!! Josh and I planted 'em this morning. Except for the hole up by the parking lot. Not sure when that pad or sign will go in. I'm gonna get some kind of tape to mark the end of the pad on the blacktop, probably duck.
Anyways, thanks to all the guys who helped or offered to help (and meant it! LOL!).

There's always a few tried and true course veterans that you can count on.

So, what exactly is "duck" tape? Is it something LarDog uses?
