On Sunday March 31 (the day after the tournament) we will be pulling the baskets on the back 9 so the city can perform repairs to the baskets. We are looking for help in pulling the baskets and carrying them to the pavillion. If someone has access to an ATV that would really help. The plan is to pull the baskets at 4:30pm. We will be meeting at 3:00pm to play a round before the work begins.
The plan is once the first 9 baskets are repaired they will be returned and we'll need to pull the other 9 baskets. We will pull the front 9 and replace them with the newly repaired baskets (from the back 9). The city thinks they can have 9 baskets refurbished in 5 business days. This means the back 9 will be pulled for approximately 2 weeks. This also means we'll be needing help the following 2 weekends as we swap out baskets and eventually reinstall the back 9 baskets.
As I stated earlier if you have or have access to an ATV please let Scott Reek, Rich Martin, or myself know by this Friday. We need to advise the city so that Menasha's finest (police) are aware of the situation should the neighbors or someone else complain.

Jay, I have an ATV and huge utility cart. Problem is it is not running. If I can get it running and have time on Sunday, I'll come out for a round and some work.

On Sunday March 31 (the day after the tournament)
Is that Sunday Marh 30th or Monday March 31?????
Your calendar must not have had leap year.
Hopefully all I need is a new battery and some air in the tires after this cold winter. I'd love to help if I can.

 Sorry, whatever day Sunday is. I need to get a calender somewhere near my computer.
I just returned from moving the baskets back to the long (summer) position on holes 2, 4, 6, 7, 10, & 12. We did NOT move 13, 14, or 15 back since we will be pulling those on Sunday. 10 & 12 are just so much tougher in the long position we felt they needed to be moved.
It would be a big help if you could get it running and bring it over. We'll just have to do it the hard way if you can't.

Will the Menasha Parks give me a hard time if it is not regsitered? I don't bother to register it because of where I typically use it.

I don't think so. To my understanding the city won't be there. They have given Rich a key to get in the pavilion. We are to pull the baskets and place them in the pavilion and lock them up. City workers will pick them up on Monday sometime. We just need to inform the City so they can inform the police dept. That way if one of the neighbors sees someone driving around the park in an ATV and they call the police the police will know what we are doing and tell the neighbor it is OK. I suppose there is still a risk of an officer stopping by and asking questions. It's your call.

Looks like registrations are still coming in to both Scott (via mail and in person) and also online using Take Flight Today. (http://www.takeflighttoday.com/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=201)
Scott, myself, and some other TDs are implementing larger "day of" registration costs this year in hopes that people will be more likely to pre-register for the tournaments. It's not a fee we enjoy charging but we need some incentive for people to commit to an event and send their money in. Planning an event is a ton of work and having the pre-registrations makes things a ton easier.
As of 11:45 on Thursday night here is the registration list (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=7803).
Good luck to everyone on Saturday.
PS - I will have Bite shoes, Seal Skins (water proof socks), and fliers for the WI Tour Warm Up all available at the event.

Sorry Jay and Co,
I went to work on the grizzly yesterday. Tried inflating the tire and it just leaked right out. There is some huge gash in the tire, unknown how in the heck that happened. Anyway, I ordered a new tire today and it won't be in until Tuesday. I didn't even bother with the battery then.
Looks like you'll be carrying baskets on your shoulders. Just think of me while you're doing it - if Winter Park hill is muddy, I carry the baskets up to the top of the hill on my shoulder. Put the chain rack behind your head and hold on to the basket.

And bam, just like that, Scott is already up to 40 pre-registered players. (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=7803) That's awesome to see. If 50 more show up tomorrow and sign up onsite then $500 is raised for the AADGC. A very worthy cause.
Have fun everyone. PHamill will be delivering the Bite Shoes and Seal Skins socks. Also, a decent supply of 178 to 180 gram custom stamped GMO San Marino Rocs. The more that are sold the bigger the GMO purse.

And for those of you that haven't heard the $10 walk up registration fee goes towards the AADGC course improvement fund. The first project on the course improvement agenda is new concrete tee pads at O'hauser.

Everyone I've spoken with from this event said they had a great time and things went well. Good to hear. Congrats to all of the participants (and winners).
I've been helping Scott here and there along the way and here are the results with unofficial ratings (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=7803&year=2008&incl udeRatings=1#Open).
Registrations are coming in frequently for the Fond du Lac event this upcoming weekend as well. Please pre-register.

We need your help again. The baskets from the front 9 will be ready to go back in on Sunday April 6. Rich would also like to add alternate pin placements on #1, #3, and #5. ( :cool:more variety) That means we'll need to dig some holes. Please bring shovels or other digging tools. The city is also going to try to get us some woodchips for the muddy areas around the baskets and tee pads. Please bring rakes, pitchforks, wheelbarrows, anything to carry large amounts of woodchips, etc.
Once we have that work done we'll take a break and play a round while all 18 baskets are in the ground. Then we'll swing back around and pull the back 9 baskets so they can be repaired. Here is a tentative timeline:
1:00-3:00 Work on front 9 (digging, adjusting, and putting baskets back in)
3:00-4:30 Play a round while all 18 baskets are in the ground
4:30-5:30 Pull the baskets on the back 9
It all depends on the number of people and tools that show up.

We need to haul away some brush and trees so you'll want to bring some work gloves and wear a long sleeve shirt or jacket.

ONE MORE TIME! If you've been to either one of the previous work days you know what we need to do. Put the back 9 back in. Then we'll have 18 good as new or new (see basket #8) baskets.
We'd like to do one more thing on Sunday. Some of the basket do not face the tee pad or fairway. When the city put in the sleeves way back when they didn't realize the collar needs to face back to the tee pad or fairway. This means that when the basket is put in place the number plate will be facing the wrong direction. We would like to go around the course and dig around any sleeve (or basket) that needs adjusting and then spin it to the proper direction. On the front 9 it may only be #7 & #8. I hear there are a few more on the back. If everyone could please bring a shovel we can get this done in no time. Based on the number of people that have been showing up you probably won't have to dig more than one hole.
Sunday April 13 at 1:00 PM and of course we'll play a round when we're done.

They're gonna be hard to turn, you'll almost have to dig them halfway up. Especially if they've been in a while. If the sleeves are in 5-gallon buckets like the rest, you may be able to dig out to the top of the bucket, and dump another 5 gallons of water around the side. Then grab ahold of the basket and twist it into position. Don't torque the basket too hard though.
It was TOUGH to dig out buckets at Winter Park after just 3 years. I thought they'd come out easy, but we basically had to dig halfway down the side of the bucket before they'd budge.
Sorry, I can't make it this weekend.

Yeah, I figure we'll have to dig down almost to the bottom of the bucket. Terlap and I dug the hole for the new position for #9 last weekend and it didn't take very long. I'd guess it took maybe 10 minutes of digging. The ground is very soft. The key is to have 2 or 3 people at a basket taking turns digging.
Thanks again for your help last weekend. That was huge! I hope we can return the favor someday.
