Here is the string of all previous posts. It's GREAT to see the AADGC back on here. I'll post all future info for the course here in this forum rather than GLDGC.
For those who have not already heard all my ranting and raving about Winter Park, it was officially opened as an monster 18 hole course in 2007. It will start off right where it left off for the 2008 season. Expect to see me put baskets in as soon as the snow melts and teh hill dries. After that, we have 9 alternate pins that we'll be installing, clearing additional routes (fairways) in some wooded holes, and adding a few more tee pads to make 3 pads on some holes.

As of now, I'm thinking baskets will be back up on April 18th. I have that day off, and hope the snow will be gone and the hill dried.
This spring, we want to install alternate pin locations on 8 holes. This will require a small amount of tree cutting, brush trimming, and digging a hole at each location - pretty minimal work. We're looking for some volunteers. This is your chance to 'own' a hole at Winter Park. If you have a unique idea for one of the alternate pins, and want to do the work necessary, then you'll be more than welcome too. As long as it fits our criteria for the basket to be off the ski runs so we can stay open in winter, your options are pretty wide open.
I already have a preliminary design done for these alternate pins, and believe me, the work is minimal. With a shovel and bow saw, someone could finish two holes in probably 90 minutes. That's why I'm asking for your help. If we had just 4-5 guys out there, we could be done in two hours, have baskets in, have signs up, and be able to play a round and enjoy the spoils of our work. It is so easy to dig in the spring! Please give me a call if you can help and we'll set up a day. I'll provide refreshments as always to my volunteers.

Seriously?! No one interested in designing and building their very own variation for a permanent installtion of an alternate pin placement? I expected lot's of takers jumping at this chance to design things the way they want. You can play a round and say "I designed and built that"!

Baskets are in!
I'd like to do a work day SATURDAY MAY 3 or Sun May 4. It would defintely be nice to see the Appleton crew out here. I could use the help, and even more, I'd love to play a round or two of doubles with the large group!
Let me know which day works best for you all and we'll organize something. Bring shovels to dig alternate pin placements, bow saws for brush, and chainsaw for a few larger trees that need removal. Really not much hard work, just a lot of little stuff where more people would be handly.
I'll post later if we can work out specific date/time details based on AADGC availability and interest. And then I can plan on providing some grilled food and ice cold refreshments too.

I have a favor to ask, or a proposition. Should any of you ambitious golfers come out from the AADGC to play Winter Park, if you have a shovel feel free to bring it and simply dig one of the alternate pin holes for us. We spent a lot of this week and today clearing trees and brush to make way for the alt pins. Just dig a hole wide enough for a 5 gallon bucket, and deep enough to bury the sleeve (about arm's length deep 26"). There are flags to indicate the placement of the hole. Alternate pins are going to be installed on...

Like I said, if you feel ambitious go right ahead and dig a hole where the large orange flags are. Even one or two less holes that we have to dig means sooner we can get the alt pins installed. Otherwise it's me and my wife digging all 9 holes unless we have friends come out for a weekend.

July News Update
We just submitted a proposal for our 27 hole layout. If all the stars align, and funds are raised, we could be playing 27 holes in October.
We're still looking for someone to host a PDGA event on Sept 6-7 (one or two day, doesn't matter) to showcase all of what Winter Park has. Original plans for a Sept 6-7 B tier fell through with the AADGC. See our problem is, as a club we cannot afford the money upfront to purchase discs and prize packs at risk in the event of a low turnout. It really hurt us last year with our rained out event, and members are voting against hosting an event again. We'll take care of all course prep, fresh mowing, fresh signs, cleanup, etc. The chalet house is already reserved (just pay a $55 fee if used). We want no part of any vendor profit. We do not want to collect any additional fees for the club. You keep all your money! We want an event out here mainly for better SSA, scoring distributions, and player ratings. If anyone is interested in hosting an event, give me a call or PM (actually just book it with PDGA because we're already prepared). Personally, I'll play PRO, and could take over TD duties the other day if you didn't want to be up here all weekend. Or just make it a one day C tier. We're also a VERY hospitable group up here, so if you need food, water (with barley and hops), and lodging, we have you covered. We could even arrange camping at Winter Park, making it a weekend long event including glow doubles, etc

Start the buzzzing!!!!!!
We have been approved for a 27 hole course!
I will begin design shrtly on the specific holes and start roughing them in. WE WILL need help clearing fairways and installing baskets and tee pads once summer ends.
October 2008 could be a reality with help. Memorial Weekend 2009 will definitely be the grand opening.

We are beginning construction on the new nine holes at Winter Park. Our planned work days are...
Fri Oct 3
Sat Oct 4
Sat Oct 11
Fri Oct 24
Please, we could use some help to do some light duty work like shoveling, raking, moving cut branches into brush piles, and digging some holes for sleeve buckets. Bring shovels, metal rakes, pruners, bow saws, and gloves and your help will be greatly appreciated. We'll have two guys with chainsaws but could use more if you have them.
Call me (920-309-2195) to let me know if you can help us out here and be ready by winter for our grand opening nice and early next spring. The weather is getting fantastic for workdays!
