For the Coastal Plains Winter Open we are playing all the tall grass OB. Plus we have an island OB on the 87ft. hole #11. But I do want your opinions please tell me why you like it or don't like it. I would love to hear what you think. I DO NOT WANT THIS TO TURN INTO AN ARGUMENT THREAD. Please just your thoughts on why there should or shouldn't be OB at Richlands.

There should be OBs for the simple fact that it keeps everyone on an even playing field. :D

I feel that if winds get above 15 - 20 MPH, there should not be OB. However, not that much wind or no wind, we should def. play the OB
The challenge of the course is the wind and that is something you cannot control. This is why the OB was created, to make the course challenging when there is no wind. If the wind is there, no need for the OB.
Just my 2 cents. Thanks for starting this discussion Scott!

One thing I would add is that it would be nice for the OB to include other fairways. You can throw a shot that is slightly off and it can skip OB, but the next guy can throw a horrible shot, land in a completely different fairway and it's IB. I would like to try a round with other fairways OB to limit the BS.
And I say this knowing how much it would affect me. I played one tournament out there and in one round landed in the wrong fairway 3 times. But each time it was an easy 3 instead of a circle 4.

100% agreed.
I don't want to throw a shot and be out of bounds but then have someone throw a worse shot and be in bounds.

I like this too but it would have to be very clear on some holes what is the other fairway and what are the transitions between other holes.
How about a final round no OB shootout!

That is why I don't make it OB and beyond. Just pretend that the grass is water.

Yeah, I guarantee there would be some controversy on transition/fairway lies unless they were painted of or something.

Plus more paint cost more money. We already spend about a $100.

I am surprised at the results of the poll thus far. 11 to 1? I was expecting more of a 7 to 5 by now. Or at the very minimum 8 to 4?!?!?!?!?! oh well. Maybe I'll start a "what if the winds are above 15 mph, should we have OB thread?"
Should I?

I like the OB even if it's 40mph winds. There are almost no trees so the wind/OB becomes the obstacle. With no OB I would be pretty much guaranteed at least a 3 on every hole no matter how bad the drive was.

I don't know about all that. Back in 2003 at the CPWO we had 40 MPH winds with 60mph gust. There were only 2 rounds shot in the fifties (57 and a 59). We were not using the OB back then. I know a very good pro who took an 18 on hole 14 with no ob strokes at all. The SSA for the first round that day was 62.80!!!!! And the 2nd round of the day had an SSA of 58.89!!!!!!!!! Even to shoot a 1000 rated round that day, you had to take some 4s.

I agree that other fairways past the OB should be OB. Similar to USDGC style. Like some of the guys stated you rely on luck to skip past OB and still be in bounds on another fairway.
