If there's anything Nomads like almost as much as women and gambling it's helping their fellow humans. With that in mind here are two upcoming events that you the fine citizens of the Association can participate/sponsor:
Nomad Paul is hosting one of those I word tourneys (http://www.md-discgolf.com/viewtopic.php?t=1253) on the 19th.
Nomad Toad proves once again that he is insane, and has no respect for his genitals, by participating in the Polar Bear Plunge. (https://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=236610&lis=1&kntae236610=C2 EA0A073BA644D7AE1C565DA5403887&supId=159514172) Brrr!!!

I decided to skip this months issue of Barely Legal, my $3.00 in scratchers and one of my five daily forties of King Cobra to give a little for a good cause.

Chesapeake Area Homeless Relief Effort
Stephen Badger - Founder
410-897-7500
P.O. Box 101 Davidsonville, MD. 21035
Our objective: To positively impact the overall quality of daily life for area homeless by directly distributing individual "kits" that contain various seasonal necessities and comforts. In promoting this charity, we help to educate and thereby facilitate a more compassionate sense of community for the general public. We are not politically or religously motivated in any sense.
We collect various lightly used garments, blankets, and food. We also accept monetary donations. Items collected are sometimes directly distributed, other items are taken to Shelters, Salvation Army, Goodwill, etc. Funds collected are used to buy (wholesale) wool blankets, thermal socks, hats, gloves, and other miscellanious inserts to the kits. Those assembled kits are handed out by volunteers directly to homeless on the streets.
Kits typically include 1 XL ziploc big bag (houses the kit, keeps its contents and possible additional contents waterproof).1 Wool Blanket2 pair Thermal Socks1 pair wool gloves1 knit watchcap1 gallon size ziploc (misc storage and waterproofing)Various Assortment of Food: Vienna Sausages, Crackers, Cookies, Chocolate Bars, Granola Bars, Fruit Bars, Fruit Cups, etc.
Although we turn no profit what so ever, we are not a 501c3 entity...rather we are a collection of people within the baltimore washington communities that rally together our own funds and efforts. We've had some people show interest in getting us to 501c3 status... However, given the cyclical nature of our effort, It always seemed that the time and money spent giving us tax status for prospective donors was better spent trying to keep someone warm and comfortable. We may go 501c3 in 2009, but that remains to be seen.
Thanks very much for your time and interest.
