yes, I am now sponsoring a select few. JD is the only player I'm fully sponsoring but I have given some gear out and will give those players more gear when I have it. Just trying to give back as best I can. I'd sponsor everyone if I could afford to :)

thanks for the 'grats everyone! Great golfing with you Bucky and JJ...I'm adopting "Bearded Sensi" as my new official nickname ;)
i got some mad tree love this weekend on a few holes (my forehand flipped left on Coyote #9 but kicked all the way down to the green, about 40' out)...my discs were really listening to me for once! I gave one of Bucky's discs a good talking-to before his shot and he got some love too...so I'm adding "Disc Whisperer" to my list of aliases.
Josh - those Titledisc shirts are SWEET! You still taking orders for the next run?
baldguy
Aug 05 2008, 12:37 PM
I have some left, going to post a list (with pics) this week. I also will be taking orders for the next run although I'll have to gauge the styles I go with by interest. The dry-fit tees will be the same or very similar. The big-logo sponsor polos are likely to be a one-time run. That will depend on who else wants one :)

I don't have any more of the big logo-type shirts but I can definitely make some if they are what people want, I just have to place an order. What sucks is that I can't pick up the shirts in town any more because I bought almost all that was available. I am looking at placing an order with the manufacturer but I'll see how that goes. If I have to go to a different (similar) shirt, I'll have to charge $35 for the big-logo shirts. Is that too much?
I could also take some of the leftovers I have back to the printer and add the big back logos... so they would have the small logo on the front with text, and a larger version of the same on the back. slightly different from the once I've already printed... let me do some thinking on it :)
oh yeah, embroidered solid (textured) polos should be available after I get back from Florida. more info on those soon
Thor
Aug 05 2008, 03:16 PM
What about taking mine back as well as the leftovers to have the big logo put on the back. Think on it and see what comes up.
baldguy
Aug 05 2008, 04:39 PM
I can do that, only if they're all one color ink (to make it cost-effective). It's going to cost another $5 per shirt though at that quantity. I also think I'd prefer to wait just a little bit to see if anyone else wants the same thing. What do you think?
Either way, the second run will be a little bit different. There will still be some exclusivity for those that got one out of this batch :)

Bucky - There's a mini @ WO Harrington in Irving on Saturday mornings, although the course is rather plain. I think they go to Fritz after for some dubs. The Lake has a 2pm mini - you could play with us at 10:00 then in the mini at 2:00... I think there's a Denton mini too, but meh.

Thought I might get some help from one of the other big message board states, thanks in advance....
Billy Crump and Brian Graham have contacted Mike and Mike on ESPN thru the PDGA. They are trying to get them down to The USDGC this year and do a live feed during the event.
We need your help: to whomever reads this post, if you could just send an email to them and give them some good reasons why they should come down to The USDGC.
I am going to be emailing them several times a week giving them different reasons why they should give DISC GOLF a chance.
Billy wants thousands of emails to flood their computers. This could happen with enough effort from our community of Disc Golf.
The email is Mike and Mike (http://espnradio.espn.go.com/espnradio/email)
Thanks for all of your efforts

baldguy
Aug 15 2008, 04:49 PM
hopefully the wrinkles were just a result of the printing process and won't come back. I've washed my two shirts at leats three times now and still no wrinkles... I think you guys will need to fight over who gets the free shirt :).
Deidre and I are starting the Southern Nationals Am Championships tomorrow, here in Pensacola. Much smaller event than PDGA worlds, but at least they offer Intermediate :D. Should be fun, regardless. Hopefully some of these Florida-types want some shirts. We need gas money to get home ;)
BTW - I filled up for $3.41/gal in Jackson, MS. Then saw gas for $3.38. In the nearly 700 miles between Arlington and here, Jackson was the only place under $3.50. go figure.

Hey,
I cashed at worlds !! $35...sweet, Played some of the greatest courses ever. Timber Ridge was on a ski slope, had holes like 715' down hill, awesome! 2 of the courses kicked my butt, lots and lots of trees in the fairways and I hit them all. Shot my first 1000 rated round on day one, and my putting was fine the whole week. I ended up tied for 84th, out of 200 plus players. I learned alot about myself and my game. First take your family with you when you go, so as to not get homesick, and second
l_7_ltrain
Aug 17 2008, 11:13 AM
don't hit the trees in the fairway, but if you do, do it in a manner that your kick heads to the basket. Last but not least flick out of danger, not back into danger. Ben did well also..like 40something out of 90 or so. Met allot of great players. Watched David Feldbergh, Markus Kallstrom, and Nikko play at Osthemo. Flawless golf is all they do........

Deidre is now the reigning Southern Nationals Am Women Champion :).
She beat 8 other ladies to come out with a 3-stroke victory in the Am ladies division. She won a basket and a couple discs... valued at $411 . I finished with a terrible final 9 to end up tied for 19th out of 57. Somehow I got 21st place's payout instead of spliting it up... oh well. SN has a long way to go.
We're in Jackson, MS right now, heading back to DFW shortly. Can't wait to get home :)

baldguy
Aug 19 2008, 01:01 PM
it wasn't PDGA sanctioned... SN doesn't jive very well with the PDGA. Having attended one of their "championships" though... they're nowhere near being able to compete with the PDGA. I don't like a lot of the things that the PDGA does, but at least they are *trying* to be a real sanctioning body. I dunno where scores are going to be posted or when. Just one more thing they can't seem to get right.

okcacehole
Aug 19 2008, 08:38 PM
well they intentionally want nothing to do with sanctioning it as they can payout more to the players and less to the PDGA and its flat payouts
Did you get a chance to meet Jim Orum? He is a good guy that I bought my plastic from back in the late 90's

baldguy
Aug 19 2008, 09:38 PM
Yeah, I know they don't sanction it for many reasons... on the surface it's about payouts, but in reality I don't think that's the reason. In fact, they pay out the same number of places that PDGA events do. They inflate the value of their merchandise so much that they're not really paying out more to anyone, they're just putting larger numbers on paper. They even put bag tags in their payouts which IMO is ridiculous. Basically saying "part of your payout is a donation in your name... to us." I'm not sure how this is much different from the PDGA's fees. I also think a lot of people forget that the PDGA's payout structure is only for the minimum payout. Added cash can be distributed however the TD likes. I'm not defending the PDGA here, just saying that if they wanted to get away from the PDGA way of doing things... they failed.
They used a *temp* 9 hole course in their "championship" that consisted of some poorly designed holes and served no real purpose. All attendees would have easily fit on two courses. Plus, the Am division was too large to fit on 9 holes. So rather than have 3 pools play each of the 3 courses once, some divisions played the same course twice. Then they had a cut at 50% of each division and Am men ended up playing the temp 9 for the final 9... blind. There was poor communication, poor planning, and poor decision-making. Even the decisions they made, they did not stick to. Pools were changed at the last minute, at least partly due to the fact that they decided to take registration the day of the event, in spite of their long-advertised "no signups the day of" rule. The first round started 45 minutes late, and the "30 minutes between last card in and start of final 9" was actually almost two hours. There were no readily apparent officials on the courses, at least not for any of the 4 rounds I played. Their "skills competition" was a joke on many fronts. they used an inaccurate range finder for distance and they allowed skips but no rolls. The putting and upshot skills weren't much better... overall a poorly run event. They didn't even have a PA for announcements during the awards ceremony, so people in the back struggled to hear over the unruly crowd.
It was the first time I've ever seen bicycles given as payout in a DG tournament but i'm not sure how I feel about that... I can say that since everyone drove to the tournament, many people a long distance, such an awkwardly shaped large prize was tough for many people to carry back home.
There were good points - food available on the course was great, a tractor and trailers to carry players from HQ to their course was a nice addition, and the players packs were decent. Awards for points leaders were cool, and they did a custom dyed mini for each player who registered early, even if they did misspell Deidre's name (I sent them an email correcting it weeks before, but they apparently ignored it).
I've played a ton of tournaments. I've run a few. I know what I expect from an event and I did not feel like they came through. I definitely did not feel like it was a championship-caliber event.

Aug 19 2008, 09:46 PM
bummer to hear and a bicycle :) WOW..
what type of basket did she get to take home?
Considering how long it has been going it definately doesn't sound like they have progressed a lot to current "standards" for an event, but I will still be interested to hear DJ's remarks..hopefully it isn't just to get your money headed to the pro payout..ala KCWO
baldguy
Aug 19 2008, 10:15 PM
I'm trying to figure out what type of basket it is... it's a portable DGA with 24 chains in 2 rows. No number plate. It looks like a mach II except it has 24 chains. it's a decent basket, for sure... retail on the mach II is $293, so I figured $300 to be safe. I'm sure it was inflated, though... her payout was $411, and that was the basket, a bag tag, a champion monarch, a KC Aviar, an Innova Chamois ("Shammy"), a Koozie, and a plaque trophy.
I'm not saying that they payout was too small, I'm just saying that the $411 number is to high. It's really closer to $350, and that's what they should have put down. Even if I include $25 for the trophy, the numbers are still off. Besides, trophy costs are supposed to come out of the overall purse as a tournament expense, not individual payout numbers. At least when DJ goes, they can't give him a check for $350 and tell him he got $411 :D

Sucks to hear your experience with the SN was kinda crappy. I haven't yet played any large SN events, just a handful of one-dayers here and in Shreveport. I don't know what the root of the whole PDGA versus SN thing is, but I get tired of reading about it every time I check the SNDG.org message boards...almost every thread eventually spirals downward until it's nothing more than a discussion on how badly the PDGA sucks, how it hates Southerners, and is an evil organization out to rob players of money.
...thankfully the Louisiana State Championships are PDGA sanctioned :D

yeah but the mach V has 3 rows of chains. This one is only two. Oh, and the prices they list on the DGA website are the prices that *should* be used in tournaments... who knows.
edit: I went and double-checked, and this basket does have three rows of chains. I guess it is worth the $350 they charged :). I still don't like the bag tag as a payout prize though...

It was another amazing Okie Doubles...I am sure we will see the scores in a few days or so, but Todd and I took 7th this year...we were in 3rd starting Sunday but went too slow on the best shot round and that killed us
Coda and Kyle won Pro, DJ and Scott won Pro Grand Masters, not sure about too many other divisions..
about 5 aces during the week that counted - 2 people aced that didn't pay in for the $920 ace pot
No bad weather at all this year...and barely any wind for Oklahoma
Mike and Wayne ran another quality event that was fun for all

What hole in Carrollton is not birdieable
baldguy
Aug 25 2008, 10:18 PM
if you're talking about the beltbuster course... several of them are real par 4 and par 5 holes. Even the backwards long course, as marked, has some true par 4s. Still "birdieable" as long as you mean that taking a 3 on a par 4 is a birdie. :)
Big E
Aug 26 2008, 04:39 PM
Did you ever make it out to play the new pin locations?
Pizza God
Aug 26 2008, 07:03 PM
I have not played the backwards course yet, however I have birdied every hole in Carrollton at least twice.
#16 at Jimmy Porter was twice, once with a roller and once with an air shot.
At Greenbelt,
#12 - I have hit several times from the bottom of the hill all the way to parking the hole.
#17 - usually roll this hole, several birds that way, however I only have one bird from an air shot that was a putt. (i have a field ace on this one too)
Time to bounce a thought.
The way the two courses are set up is #3 is the 1st hole of the North course, this ends at #9.
The West course starts with #10 and runs to #2.
I am thinking about putting in the C hole and skipping hole #10 all together.
So now hole 1 would be #11 and end at #2.
What do you think????
okcacehole
Aug 26 2008, 07:12 PM
#10 has been the CTP hole for years, but any of them could be
C hear's a lot of "FORE"
are you talking about just 36 holes for the tourney instead of 42?
IMO
Pizza God
Aug 26 2008, 07:22 PM
Also, it would be easy to add a hole to the course this way. Add back in B or A and add #10 to the North course.
Now to add another hole would be a little different. (plus mean using a temp hole on the north course.)

haha, well IMO no. It's new but it's still hyzer towards the creek on most holes. If your gonna play the turney then i would say u should check it out before hand but a trip just to play, NO.
7 baskets are by 17and 18 across the street and the other 11 are by 6 and 7 across the street and in all you trek thru Carrollton seemingly on a 10 mile excursion.
Just my opinion, I realize theres not alot to work with out there. No offense to whoever laid it out.

I did get to play the extra holes yesterday and I agree with Bucky's assessment. Not bad, by any means... just not complicated enough to warrant practicing. Every hole except for maybe 2 of them will be easy to assess the first time you play it. I think a few holes could stand to stretch out a bit to improve difficulty, but they are fun to play as they are. Expect to score a couple strokes lower on the temp 18 than you normally do on the permanent 18.

From Pizza's post in the other thread:
Well after all the good reviews I got from the west side of Josey, they are gone.
It seems the actions of a few affect the many, 2 people who live over there put up suck a stink because of a few beer drinking cussers all 7 baskets on the west side of josey have to be relocated.

ha, wrong and wrong
The VHS cassette is a 7 ⅜" wide, 4" deep, 1" thick (187 mm × 103 mm × 25 mm) plastic clamshell held together with 5 Philips head screws. The flip-up cover that protects the tape has a built-in latch with a push-in toggle on the right side, as seen in the Bottom View. The VHS cassette also includes an anti-despooling mechanism as seen in the Top View, several plastic parts near front label end of the cassette between the two spools. The spool brakes are released by a push-in lever within a 1/4" hole accessed from the bottom of the cassette, about 3/4" in from the edge label. There is a clear tape leader at both ends of the tape to provide an optical auto-stop for the VCR transport mechanism.
Mostly re-wound VHS cassette tapeThe recording medium is a ½ inch (12.7 mm) wide magnetic tape wound between two spools, allowing it to be slowly passed over the various playback and recording heads of the video cassette recorder. The tape speed is 3.335 cm/s for NTSC, 2.339 cm/s for PAL. A cassette holds a maximum of about 430 m of tape at the lowest acceptable tape thickness, giving a maximum playing time of about 3.5 hours for NTSC and 5 hours for PAL at "standard" (SP) quality. Other speeds include LP and EP/SLP which double and triple the recording time, for NTSC regions. These speed reductions cause a slight reduction in video quality (from 250 lines to 230 lines horizontal); also, tapes recorded at the lower speed often exhibit poor playback performance on recorders other than the one they were produced on. Because of this, commercial prerecorded tapes were almost always recorded in SP mode.
VHS M-loading systemAs with almost all cassette-based videotape systems, VHS machines pull the tape from the cassette shell and wrap it around the head drum. VHS machines, in contrast to Betamax and Beta's predecessor U-matic, use an M-loading system, also known as M-lacing, where the tape is drawn out by two threading posts and wrapped around the head drum (and other tape transport components) in a shape roughly approximating the letter M.
The interior of a modern VHS VCR showing the drum, tape, and cassetteVHS tapes have approximately 3 MHz of video bandwidth, which is achieved at a relatively low tape speed by the use of helical scan recording of a frequency modulated luminance (black and white) signal, with a down-converted "color under" chroma (color) signal recorded directly at the baseband. Because VHS is an analog system, VHS tapes represent video as a continuous stream of waves, in a manner similar to analog TV broadcasts. The waveform per scanline can reach about 160 waves at max, and contains 525 scanlines in NTSC (486 visible), or 625 lines in PAL (576 visible). In modern-day digital terminology, VHS is roughly equivalent to 320 pixels of horizontal resolution with a signal-to-noise ratio of the image at 43 dB.

Thor

yeah my hinges were a little rustier than usual, but I hit almost every putt that was close enough to call makable :). It was good to play some golf for a change. I've been so busy with work and on the TD side of things lately that I nearly forgot what it's like to just go play with some buddies. Fun times.

FYI - D and I are heading to Shaine's mini in McKinney in the morning. Whoever is heading out to Mesquite please do me a solid and check out which baskets have or have not been moved. I'll get out there at some point before the tournament but a progress report from an actual DG player would be awesome :)

boo. I'll get with the City folks and see if I can light a fire.
Harmony Hills is looking great. This should be a fun tournament. Shaine was also kind enough to kick in a cash sponsorship to the Alex Clark Memorial. Be sure to put the Dunn Memorial Java Classic on your list for next month. and sign up on titledisc :)

What is wrong with putting with a challenger? I find it fitting.
I putt with a challenger and I'm putting challenged.
and becuase Haleigh didn't pay you for my part of TX team. Thursday again?

Giles..that's big of you to admit that crushing defeat. Not only did she beat you, she could have spotted you 2 and still won!
Thor
Sep 22 2008, 06:01 PM
well, since you got beat by ya lady apparently its not the putter, it's the puttee..:)
But Murph seems to really enjoy white avairs.. I guess similar to going out of his way to not like the Rangers..
