I think I am missing the basic concept of putting. I understand the idea behind drives. Just getting a putter in the basket from around 30' is what I don't get.
Perhaps "concept" and "idea" are the wrong terms. Think along the lines of "The Philosophy of Putting".
JD, I know you lurk, drop some knowledge.

May 27 2008, 12:30 PM
find a routine that works and use it every time you putt, even for the 15-footers. Nearly every time I miss a putt, I can tell where I went wrong in my routine. As long as I can stick to the routine, I will make most of my putts from 40' and in. The trick is sticking to it *every* time :). Sometimes I'll use a "shortened version" of the routine for the easy putts, but it's always there. the familiarity of the routine is what eases my nerves and builds confidence. putting is something like 30% form, 65% confidence, and 5% skill. just my 2 cents

Do not take putting tips from players with a 915 player rating :o...just kidding
baldguy
May 27 2008, 01:00 PM
hey now... I would be rated much worse if I couldn't putt :D. besides the folks in this club know I am a decent putter, especially when I get in a rhythm.
Giles - knew which JD you meant but i figured I'd offer it up anyway. I can't remember who first gave me that advice but it's not an original idea on my part :). it definitely works for me.

I know BBD, I was just having fun. Your putting is far better than mine. My saving grace is I don't need to putt when I'm playing well. Perhaps that is why I'm so terrible.
mitchjustice
May 27 2008, 01:13 PM
I was just kidding...Having a routine that you use on every putt is solid advice...I have seen some of the best putters in the world, and they all have a routine that they use...some more involved than others but still the same with each putt...but you also have to work at that routine each and every day...and not on the course

Pretend that you are painting the pole with your disc and then just follow through with your putt.
baldguy
May 27 2008, 01:50 PM
the other thing that has helped me recently is not taking too many warm-up putts. At least for me, I end up doing more harm than good. If I don't putt well in warm-up, I start second-guessing myself and I miss a lot during the round. If I only take a few... maybe 4-8 warmup putts... then I tend to putt much better during the round
now, giles... if I could drive like you do... I'd be a much better golfer

WOW !!!! Most amateurs always over complicate putting. From indecesion on which putter to use, to which style (stance) to use. My brothers make it simple, I have tried it everyway. I'll save you all alot of time and headache, find a style that is comfortable to U. Then PRACTICE on it more than you play Rounds with your buddies. And during your Practice and Rounds w/friends make it a habbit to NEVER miss LOW....It works for me. I'll show U what Im talking about on June 1st.....:) Peace.

Why does it mean the next one will go down? Is it some kinda pattern.? So If you miss one and it means your gonna hit the next one, doesn't that pattern shows that u should hit 50%? /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Putting should be like this: If u miss one then u should 1) curse yourself, aloud 2) two finger flick ur mid/driver at the basket missing wildly having to go chase it!(manderson) 3)Say your own name followed by "you stupid f king moron".3a)yank ur bag up and slam it down or hit it with ur chair 4) switch putters 5)tell yourself your gonna practoice in the backyard till your arm falls off!
FAmiliar anyone?

each team can play as many times as they like, and people are welcome to re-partner and go again in the same or different division. For doubles, the following divisions are offered:
$30 Open
$30 Pro Masters
$20 Advanced
$20 Intermediate
$20 Advanced Women
I added a couple of divisions due to the large number of teams that I am expecting. All divisions still play from the shorts for doubles rounds, except for JD's team. he's gotta play from the longs. and he can only use a mini :D

You should really keep just Pro and ADV, but that is your call
Just added to the Ring of Fire by 17684:
Innova Aviar - 1993 World Biggest stamped DX 175
Innova Aviar - Twisted Flyer center stamped DX 173
Innova Aviar - 10th Annual MJCO stamped DX 172
Innova Aviar - 11th Annual MJCO stamped DX 172
Innova Aviar - Mace Man Dragon stamped DX 171
Discraft Predator - Duncan Hill Climber stamped ESP 171
Discraft Challenger - ADGA Full Color Club Championships stamped 172 (#1 of 50 made)
Gateway Diablo DT - Double stamped 174
I know tha Todd pulled some goodies last night for the Ring of Fire also.
Everyone should grab some plastic they can part with, don't shoot or just don't want and donate to the RING OF FIRE held by Father Johnson!!!!

I was going to just go adv. and pro... but the desire is there for all of those divisions, so why not :) realistically, adv and pro will still make up 80% of competitors, but the few who really wanted the other divisions probably wouldn't have played otherwise... so it just makes sense.
so far I know of at least 6 teams for open, 6 or 7 for advanced, 3 for intermediate, 2 for masters (3 if DJ and watts go that direction) and 2 for ladies. I'm expecting more than 10 teams each for advanced and pro... probably more like 20 teams for advanced :). it's gonna be a big doubles turnout!

I just wanted to say thanks to BBD for great time. I'm sure you learned a hell of a lot that will help you run better and better tournaments from here on out. If you got the want to do it, keep it up and enjoy it. I wasn't a big fan of most of the mandos, but I had to play it just like I would if I traveled out of state and they had mandos I didn't agree with there. TD's choice for their tournament. Maybe one of these days I'll play decent in a tourney. Again, excellent job sir.
baldguy
Jun 02 2008, 01:14 PM
thanks :)
fwiw - the mandos weren't just for fun, they were each designed to protect players on another part of the course. with 100 players on 20 holes I had to be sure that nobod7y got hurt by any of your crushing drives :D. I'm glad you enjoyed your second tournament of the year ;)

A man goes to a public golf course.
He approaches the man behind the counter in the pro shop and says, 'I would like 18 holes of golf and a caddie.'
The man behind the counter says, 'The 18 holes of golf is no problem, but all of the caddies are out on the course. What I will do for you is this: We just received 8 brand new robot golf caddies. If you're willing to take one with you out on the course and come back and tell me how well it works, your round of golf is on me today.'
The golfer obviously accepted the man's offer.
He approached the first tee, looked at the fairway and said to himself, 'I think my driver will do the job.'
The robot caddie turned to the man and said, 'No sir. Use your 3 wood. A driver is far too much club for this hole.'
Hesitantly, the golfer pulled out his 3 wood, made good contact with the ball, and the ball landed about 10 feet to the right front of the hole on the green.
The golfer, delighted, turned to the robot and thanked him for his assistance.
As the golfer pulled out his putter he said, 'I think this green is gonna break left to right.'
The robot then again spoke up and said, 'No sir. I do believe this green will break right to left'
Thinking about the last time the robot corrected his prediction, he decided again to listen to the machine.
He made his putt and birdied the hole thanks to the robot and his advice.
But his luck didn't end there. His entire game was the best game he ever played, thanks to the assistance of the new robot golf caddie.
Upon returning to the clubhouse, the man behind the counter asked, 'How was your game ?' The golfer stated, 'It was, by far, the BEST game I ever played. Thank you very much for letting me take one of your robots. See you next week.
A week passed, and excited, the golfer returned to the pro shop. Upon entering, he turned to the man behind the counter and said, 'I would like 18 holes of golf and one of those robot golf caddies, please.'
The gentleman from behind the counter turned to the man and said, 'Well the 18 holes is no problem. However, we had to get rid of the robots. We had too many complaints.'
Confused, the golfer cried, 'COMPLAINTS? Who in the heck could've complained about those robots? They were incredible'
The man sighed and said, 'Well, it wasn't their performance.
It was that they were made of shiny silver metal, and the sun reflecting off them was blinding to other golfers on the fair way. The golfer said, 'So then why didn't you just paint them black?'
The man nodded sadly and replied, 'We did. Then four of 'em didn't show up for work, two filed for welfare, one of them robbed the pro shop, and the other is running for President.'

A couple that had been married for 20 years are out on their usual Saturday round of golf. The man tees up and as he is lining up he tells his wife. "You know, I had an one night stand once when we were first married. It meant nothing and I've regretted it ever sense." She tees up after him and says "While we are confessing things, I think you should know that I was a man and had a sex change operation before we met." Her husband is furious and screams at her. "You [censored]! all this time you have been using the women's tees."

The Top Ten Things That Sound Dirty In Golf But Aren't:
10. Nuts...my shaft is bent
9. After 18 holes I can barely walk
8. You really whacked the hell out of that sucker
7. Look at the size of his putter
6. Keep your head down and spread your legs a bit more
5. Mind if I join your threesome?
4. Stand with your back turned and drop it
3. My hands are so sweaty I can't get a good grip
2. Nice stroke, but your follow through has a lot to be desired
And the number 1 thing that sounds dirty in golf but isn't:
1. Hold up...I need to wash my balls first

A man wakes up early in the morning every Sunday for 5 years and goes to play golf regardless of the weather. One morning it is hurricane force winds and softball sized hail so he decides not to go golfing. He goes back to his bedroom and crawls back into bed with his wife and tells her "The weather is absolutely horrible." She mumbles back "Yeah, can you believe my idiot husband is out golfing."

The second says "Every Saturday I clean the house for my wife". The third says "Every Saturday I let my wife go shopping and she can buy whatever she wants". The fourth guy just looks at the other three and just shakes his head. "You guys go it all wrong." On Sunday morning I get up at 5:00am, shake my wife and say golf course or intercourse?

Man: If I died, would you re-marry?
Woman: I'm not sure. Probably.
Man: You would? well... would you live in this house?
Woman: I think so
Man (frustrated): well, would you let him be a father to our kids?
Woman: I think that would only be right.
Man (angry): wow... well you wouldn't let him use my golf clubs, would you?
Woman: nah, he's left handed anyway.

Just a word of caution of snakes at Rockwall. I saw one snake all of last year and have seen two on different parts of the course the last two times I have played.
Yesterday there was a fairly large (3-4 ft) snake going up a tree on hole 15. So if you get stuck in a tree don't go charging in there blindly. I am wondering if the tall grass that the city left for the TDO is leading to more snake sightings.
baldguy
Jun 11 2008, 11:57 AM
to add a personal story... not rockwall-related... but at Waco this past weekend I saw the largest snake I've ever seen in the wild. It was climbing up a tree right next to hole #5's teebox... it had to have been almost 8 feet long and I'm not exaggerating. When we saw it, the tail end was still near the ground, the head was at least 6 feet up the tree, and it wasn't climbing straight. It was probably as big in the middle as krell's right forearm (which you *know* has to be big). I have seen lots of snakes in the wild, but none like this one.
Anyway, back to fun stuff. I changed out the square headlight on my bike for a round one and took the windshield off. I think new handlebars and grips are next. The pic is terrible, but Deidre has the good camera in Florida right now :)

I just know the computer spell checker is sitting there on the assembly line where the words come down on occasion and then it has a chance to rearrange a few and suggest the correct word or a different word before passing it on. But in this case I don't think It has ever seen any thing remotely close to any of these, or the way it is jumbled together. No wonder why he's a good disc golfer, Lefty is golfing instead of attending English.:)

Yes, PT, the nurses all around the hospital thought it was pretty crazy that the two have the same birthday. But Ray is correct; I had a friend in grad school with daughters just like mine, three years apart. A coworker has two exactly five years apart. A friend of mine has a sister exactly seven years younger. The nurse in the delivery room said she was born on her mother's birthday. How about all of that?!

Gary,
MSM (Methylsulfnylmethane) is a common added constituent with Glucosamine and Chondroitin. It is available at any vitamin/health store by itself and should be fairly cheap, $8-10/100 capsules @ 500mg. Anymore money is just too much
