fwiw - I wasn't talking about just you. there has been a lot of slamming going on and the guy isn't current so he can't get on here to defend himself.

The jury is still out on whether or not the fight is righteous. I definitely agree with most of his opinions about the future of our sport, though... and I think most will agree that the PDGA has made a few mistakes lately. I don't know very many of the details so I'll just refrain from further comment.

Like you said, mace is good people. I wish more players would recognize that fact and grant him some time to get back on his feet and settle whatever issues he has going on with the PDGA or anything else. We all go through bad times... it's gotta be hard being under the microscope for so long and having every mistake made into a national tragedy. what's that saying? heavy is the head that wears the crown.

sleep time for me. I've already been up a couple hours too late

No, I have no problem with his plastic payout. I don't ever "cash" anyway. It doesn't effect me because I didn't play his events this year because of bad experiences in 06 but I believe a lot of people were upset when none of the NTS events showed up on the ratings update.
I'm just offsetting your mace nob-slobbin' with a little hate.

Giles, I heard you took 6th place in rec at Mckinney the other night and accepted the $3.50 last cash place. Be careful how you spread those rumors about never cashing sir. You never know how is watching/reading the threads.

BTW, the NTS events that haven't gone in yet is 100% a money issue, nothing else

I just wanted to chime in even though I have only played one of his events this year. Brian is Brian and I've really never had a problem with him except trying to tee off on time (he has gotten much better), but I do have an issue with tournaments not being turned in as those events were advertised as being PDGA approved. I can't even find him as a current official or even a member (maybe I'm blind). I haven't looked into the rules, but I wonder if any of those events qaulify to be entered into the ratings since they did not have a current official running them. I usually have fun at Mace's events and I try to make the ones I can. I will miss his events if they go away, but I sure would like to see my ratings actually change. This has been discussed, but I wanted to give my 2 cents.

Krell, looks like you need some remedial math classes. If you only have 1/2 a cent to offer, how can you give 2 cents? If you sell the police intercepter, you would then have a full 2 cents.

Almost shorter than McKinney... That is funny, similar to my discription for Haleigh. "It is about as long as McKinney only with less trees, no shade and some hills to walk up and down."

baldguy
May 09 2008, 10:40 AM
still its fun to have a shorter layout closer to home that is still fun to play. The dual teepads really make this a viable course configuration for tournaments. If we can get the city to let us put porter's 18 in across josey from GB... the carrollton open might become a bit more challenging.

Josh Dann and Britt Browning are the newest of the OMB/YGB Champs at A-Z doubles!!!

CONGRATS GUYS!!!!

(wait this just in they played the short pads and won by 14 and are still playing a 5th fun round just now.)

time for the big boy pads :)

2005 Murphy/Jones 1st place AM
2nd Place Josh/Jeremy

2006 - check them out..we al stunk it up :)

2007 - Murphy/Jones tied for first - lost :)
Parker/Tabor 1st
Josh/Ben 3rd

2008 - Josh/Britt - 1st

what did parker/tabor do?

baldguy
May 12 2008, 09:34 AM
well... I know what they didn't do... they didn't cash :D

Some strong teams out there in MA1. Britt and I might have given it a good go in advanced, but we're both rated in MA2 (by a longshot) so that's where we played. It's my first MA2 win in any format, so I'm happy to have it. The real story though is Samara and Adam beating the other two MA2 teams to take 2nd place cash. They beat all of the Rec teams, too. Samara has only played a few tournaments and Adam was playing his first one. They came back from a not-so-great first day to take out the very experienced Duke/Sitkoff and another team of Garland-types - Kris and Josh. As soon as Kris gets a rating, I bet it will be in the 960s. There was definitely some strong competition in the weenie-arm division.

Next year hopefully we will have things organized sooner for this event and everyone can fit it into their schedules. I might even move up for that one ;).

oceanjones
May 12 2008, 10:04 AM
Great job Josh and Britt!

dryhistory
May 12 2008, 10:13 AM
tabor/parker made a strong come back, passing "cockasian invaion" by two strokes. but it was not strong enough to keep up with all the zboaz locals who tore it up on their home course.

bbd teamed up with an excellent advanced player to beat a girl in am2 (you should really be proud of that one ) /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

flesner/reeves won by 16 strokes and whined about the pay out all night. we shouldnt have even had an open field for a doubles tournament, only ams no how to have fun :)

baldguy
May 12 2008, 10:26 AM
hey now... that girl is good. And Britt isn't an advanced player, he's an intermediate player who sometimes plays advanced :). Like me, he had never won anything in MA2 (nor MA1 for that matter). We also beat two teams who didn't have girls on them, so :p

I think that's my last A-Z in MA2, though. maybe I'll play well enough this year to move me up past 934 and I'll play MA1 next year... we'll see :)

dryhistory
May 12 2008, 10:43 AM
Britt has a 933 rating and has been playing for 6 years, he hasnt played anything but advanced in the last 3 years, he is an advanced player, no doubt about that..

but that's ok i still kinda like you :p

baldguy
May 12 2008, 12:18 PM
my point was just that a 933-rated player is an MA2 player, even if he has been playing Open for 20 years. Them's just the rules ;). I never understand those who think it is nobler to donate in the division above you than to compete in the division you're in. Why have ratings-based divisions at all? Why not just have everyone play Open?

I think we would have had a closer match if more MA2 teams had played. We played well and we won easily, but I don't think we would have had much of a chance in MA1. Anyway, it doesn't matter now the event is over. I'm proud to have played as well as we did and was just happy to be out there participating. Now, on to Rockwall where you won't have to worry about what division I'm playing since I'll be sitting behind the table all day :D

Thor
May 12 2008, 12:29 PM

May 12 2008, 12:29 PM
Congrats on the win Josh. First top finish and an ace this year, looking like a good year.

As far as divisions.. I just want to play the big boy course, so what if I don't stand a good chance of taking some plastic home. That isn't why we play, right BAGGER?

We talkin about doubles. doubles? comeon doubles...~ allen iverson

baldguy
May 12 2008, 12:47 PM
well we didn't sign up for that division with the intention or expectation of winning by 14 strokes. We signed up there because that's where the ratings put us. It's definitely nice to win forthe first time, but I wasn't in it just for that. I was there to have fun and I succeeded. I would have succeeded in that regard even if we finished last. My only regret was not getting to play a tournament round with Samara and Adam, but I rectified that after the tournament with a casual round :).

For me, a big part of the fun is playing in a competitive division which MA2 finally is. I compete with players rated up to 20 points higher than me and if I do well, I feel good about it. I do wish that more TDs would allow MA2 to play the longer teepads... but it's usually not best to have that many players on the tougher course. I know that the times I've played MA1 I've not done as well... in fact I've only cashed once. The part that sucks the most about not cashing is that your last round or two are usually with a bunch of players who are upset about not cashing... so the atmosphere suffers.

I guarantee that if I go to Tulsa this weekend, I will play MA2. I might move up before my rating forces me to... but I'm having too much fun playing with people in my own skill level.

One note about the adv/int division.

Nearly half of the players that were in the Advanced division last year are rated in the new Intermediate range this year.

Thor
May 12 2008, 03:33 PM
Turney etc..

I play this game to have fun, but I compete to win. If I don't win or top 3-5 it kinda sucks, If I don't cash it's not fun because I payed money to compete. I want to at least cash and get plastic/cash as a reward.
I easily see how some could be upset when rounds wrent turned in because we pay an anual PDGA fee to have this stuff recorded and kept track of regardless..
If you pay for something you should get service for it. If a waiter at a restaraunt takes my order I think I would be upset if he decided to put in the order and bring my dadgum food when **** ever...

and how many of them cashed with any regularity in MA1? how many of them are now actually playing MA2? How many give in to the peer pressure and "bagger" calls and just donate?

I really wish they had stuck with the "expert" name for MA1. Then about half the people screaming about folks "moving down" wouldn't have a problem since those re-classified people would still be playing "advanced". Oh well. it doesn't really bother me... I know that I'm in the right division even if I cash more often than not. I've only won once and it was only a 4-team division... and it was doubles. If I win a few more in singles, I'll move up. Hell... maybe just winning one singles event would be enough :)

May 12 2008, 05:31 PM
yes Josh, you are in the right division, i never said you werent. but your partner is an advanced player, you were playing a doubles tournament with a bagger, that makes your team a bagger team, you would have done fine in advanced. i acknowledge your right to do what the pdga says you should probably do, but please acknowledge my right to 'dadgum' bag on you for it 'when **** ever' :D:p ;)

I've already got FunkyTown on the list, Mr. Brownlow should be getting back with me soon. I think ADGA will be giving something to the raffle, not sure about the tournament yet.

It would be cool to be able to list my own club on the sponsors list too :). Plastic for the raffle would be great. Hole sponsorship would be awesome. I'm going to be hitting the streets of Rockwall this weekend to hit up more local businesses for sponsorship. Anyone have any connections on that side of town?

Cedar Hill is on the plan for Saturday...one of my old roommates from OKC is going to meet us for the 2nd round

You might ask the newly revived Irving club also and Bryan James since we have sponsored him the last 3 years in a row

Rockwall is the plan for Saturday for some of us... at least myself and Deidre :). I'm also meeting the Parks & Rec manager out there on Friday to walk through the course and identify any maintenance needs, etc. Maybe I'll even get him to throw a disc :D

As long as everyone agrees to it...I still have $42 bucks from the two doubles "minis" that I ran out at rockwall...I can donate that towards the tourney if thats alright with everyone who was included in the ace pots. Spread the word and let me know. I would love to donate this to our "1st Titledisc open"!!!! :D

I will make sure that he knows about the teesign. And I'd be more than happy to accept that $42 as sponsorship. If we can come up with another $58 to put with that money, we can sponsor a hole (or two, depending on how many more sponsors I get) :)

I don't plan on running anymore minis out there for a while if ever...so I think this would make great use of the money collected. I will wait a couple of days for someone to disagree before I fork it over.......but we shall see if we have any tight wads out there. :o:D;)

a few more from the group are in for the TDO, including Mr Spooner himself, Jeffrey Todd Jones. Rusty has expressed interested in playing... we've got Nate in MPO (maybe PT too?), several in Advanced, Deidre will likely be playing FW1 with Haleigh, DJ in MG1, Chuckles in MM1.. we just need club members in MPM, MA2, MA3, and FW3 to shoot for a possible sweep!

Oh no...Giles is playing MA1? Forget this tourney...I'm gonna go play KC Wide Open instead!! :)

Seriously though...it is killing me that I already had plans (my bro is getting married out of town the weekend before, and we were planning on going straight up to MO to pick up the kids from the inlaws when we got back). WHY DOES ALL THE GOOD STUFF HAVE TO HAPPEN AT ONCE???

Giles
May 15 2008, 11:30 AM

baldguy
May 15 2008, 11:32 AM
Giles - here's the scoop on sponsorship moneys (it's also posted on http://tdo.titledisc.com/ and on http://titledisc.com/eventDisplay.php?eventid=331 and on the titleDISC Open threads (both PDGA and http://forums.titledisc.com/ (http://forums.titledisc.com):)):

This is huge: Every dollar of added cash raised from sponsors and via fundraiser discs will be divided up amongst MPO, FPO, MA1, and FW1 - in that order. Added cash will be given to the top 3 spots in MPO, the top 2 spots in FPO, and the first place finishers in MA1 and FW1. We must raise a minimum of $50 per spot per division before we will start adding cash to the next division down the list. In order to add cash to all 4 divisions, we need to raise at least $350, so please spread the word and buy fundraiser discs. The more cash we can raise, the more we can increase payouts! We've been looking for a way to "better" the PDGA's payout structure and this should do it. It means that the normal PDGA guidelines will be followed for the normal payout, but we're going to beef up the bounty!

This only applies to cash sponsorship... so basically, the first $150 goes to MPO. That much has already come in so we're moving on to beefing up FPO (assuming I get some FPO ladies to sign up), MA1 and FW1. If I don't get any FPO, MPO will inherit one of the "beefed up" spots and MA1 will inherit the other. I think this is going to be a really cool added cash structure, even if it is somewhat complicated.

In order to aleviate backups on the course, I recommend all women play from the short tees, they are hard enough as it is!

baldguy
May 19 2008, 04:29 PM
If that's what everyone in FW1 wants to do, I'm all for it. I would never force that issue, though... it's an Advanced division and you ladies definitely have the skills to play from the long pads.

Talk to Misty and if you both agree, I think that the majority will rule in favor of the shorts. Samara might not be able to play, so her vote will have to wait ;)

Danger, Danger Will Robinson. You must be warned that the Dallas guys have an insidious plan. They would have the entire disc golf community play rounds that didn't involve money. Let's just take it to Rockwall and sell it. It's pretty much all new. haha

I sent you an email with the details. Let me know if you didn't receive it.

If anyone else is serious about getting some let me know by 2:00pm today. I can't pick them up locally like I thought. So they will be shipped and the shipping cost will be divided by the total bins ordered.

So right now the total per bin is $15.00 and I'm ordering 16 of them. If it jumps to 20 then the shipping might be a few cents more. But still a good deal!!

That's right boys and girls - Matt, Charles, Troy and I will be heading to Fritz in the morning for their 10 am mini.

Manuel is doing good things out that way and I haven't played Fritz since last year. I gave him $20 last night to join their club and help support them so I figured I should make the mini also.

Todd and Watts may head that way also. I am sure we will get a round in somewhere else after that or play some doubles out there maybe

Looks like Watts and DJ are going to play doubles for the Rockwall tourney...we should be out there around 11-12 and ready.

What time can you make it out there Mark?

I have to play it day-by-day with the very pregnant and tired wife. But I'll bet I can make it around then. The earlier the better as long as earlier means cooler, less wind, and no rain. :D

The course looked great as always and there are 9 alternate pads out there also to make for a challenging course

walked in with Funkytown #13 and walked out with it also..then Matt and I took out Charles and Troy in some doubles

deidre, duke, and I played paschal park. It was sweltering outside... I might have enjoyed the course more if I wasn't about to pass out the whole time :)

I'd be down for McKinney in the morning

Thanks for coming out Saturday - The Age Protected Div. is really growing out there(12) and there were 4 who played pro that could have played Masters.

Lefty winning this weekend really reminded me of when Nolan Grider use to do the same at his age.

This weeks mini should be small in #'s - trying to get people to play Rockwall Doubles. I will get everything started then off to doubles myself.

Thanks again and I will see yous guys thursday and can't wait untill Rockwall.
