I thought something sounded wrong with out score today.
We birdied 1,2,4,6,9,10,11 putting us at -7
then added 14 and 18 putting us at -9.
WELL If Parker birdied 18 then we got 2,3,8,9,10,13,14,15,16-18 for -10.
And Murphy it's WORLD DOUBLES! :D

But this year, players get points for majors, like they did in the old days of National Doubles. This will become a need to be there tournament like it was in the days of National Doubles or like Bowling Green is now for all players chasing points.

Quoted from MAD posting yesterday by Good Night:
FYI:
Jimmy Porter Disc Golf Course is no more.
We are pulling the baskets as of last night and the rest of the week.
They are redoing the creeks on both sides instead of just the back. In doing so the course is unplayable. Kevin ''Pineapple'' and Cory ''Chops'' started pulling the baskets last night.
We don't trust the construction company, we don't want any one hurt, and we don't want any baskets stolen.
The Carrollton Open will not be using Jimmy Porter this year. That announcement will be made later.
We will redesign the course next year when the construction is done.
End of Quote.
That just makes me really sad...

Hope to see a crew tomorrow at MCKNY
Bucky...classic..found this guy in MCKYN selling your promo cd and this shot though I think it goes to your other album..he had a 5 song CD
http://www.postersultan.com/posters/adozenfuries1poster7-1-06.jpg
don't know what your opinion is of his summation, but I am still rocking to other album you guys made..
Metalcore. It's a genre that many love to hate, and sometimes very deservedly so (bands with limited creativity and whiny lyrics like Atreyu, As I Lay Dying, and Avenged Sevenfold come to my mind- I'm sure you can think of others). But there are definitely a few of these metalcore bands that actually has talent and uses it well. A Dozen Furies is one of those bands and their 5-song EP Rip the Stars Down is reflective of that. Unfortunately, A Dozen Furies, famous for winning 2004's Battle For Ozzfest, is deceased and has no intention of returning anytime soon. But you should still check out this EP because of the quality of the songs. The strong point of this EP is definitely the catchiness of the songs. You will easily find yourself singing along to some of choruses and verses ("Wind Me Up" especially has an infectious chorus). The singer, Bucky Garrett, is probably the highlight of the band. His scream is very unique, and he can sing clean vox very well too, sometimes harmonizing with one of the guitar players for the vocals, which is always a nice touch. While not particularly technical (the lack of soloing is definitely a problem), the guitars do some cool things every so often, mostly harmonization. When compared to their full-length album, however, the guitars are definitely not as much at the forefront of the band and the vocals are. There are some cool standard metalcore-harmonized riffs from time to time that stand out, notably in "Lost in a Fantasy", but they do have some variety with some speed riffs in "Push Away" and some punkish riffs in "Falling." The rhythm section is a mixed bag. The drummer, Mike Miller, is excellent and has some original beats for the band. However, the bass is rarely heard in this album, as is with most metalcore. In sum, this was a great start for the band to showcase what they were all about and they showed tons of promise. Its sad that they weren't able to develop further. For fans of GOOD metalcore, definitely check this out. For fans of metal in general, this may not be your thing, but it much better than most of the popular metalcore out there today

working with JohnBoy? ...
+5 if we all took 5's on 18...too many people to play the hole safe, but we did confirm that Chops and his buddy have the missing baskets at Porter
The other post by Bryan is still incorrect...5-6 months on the back side of Porter as reported originally by the contractors DMI, CMI???
1 yr to get all the way to Kelly
It may be a huge rush, but if they crush out their job and hopefully have some time cash incentives...both courses may be able for use for MJCO
time will tell of course, but when the planning comes up next I would hope to see all the Carrollton Regs plan our new home
for the CD..I have a copy of A Concept from Fire and soon the EP :)
I think it's awesome Buckles...some d***mn good driving music after work...

nah, you've finally earned your rating ;) :D
I'm thinking we should plan a dinner somewhere one weekend and invite those who are interested in Carrollton DG. Pineapple and Chops don't play with us much, but I'm sure that we could collaborate with them and come up with a decent course design for GB (then again for Porter once it's ready for it). Pizza might have an idea for some cheap food :). I'm sure there are others that would like to have input. The last thing that I want to see happen is for some loyal and regular golfers in the area to get upset about not being included in the design. Our club is probably the most organized and able to spearhead the effort... Thoughts?
Thor
Apr 29 2008, 11:24 AM
Well im down with spearheading!!! :D . But really tho I think it's gonna be difficult the more people you get trying to redesign it, from more perspectives. It would be cool to have a general layout and get opinions and ideas on what people think about it. There's a basic idea of an design that Manderson and I laid out that could use some INput and what not to see what ev1 thinks. Parker and Jack have seen it as well and have given some good ideas too. Thers long and shorts which is cooler n all getout. Whatever needs to be done Lets get it did. ;)
Giles
Apr 29 2008, 11:55 AM
Spearheading? Is that something like Duckstringing?
baldguy
Apr 29 2008, 12:11 PM
it's true that there is a fine line between not enough input and too much. but, I think if we take the most solid ideas that we have now and put them to paper, then get everyone else involved in reviewing the layout, suggesting changes or additions, etc... we will end up with a great course that everyone enjoys playing. Of course the City needs to be involved, too. I think that if we show them we're capable of an organized collaborative effort, they'll be much more willing to let us handle Porter's redesign in the same manner and maybe even get some of the other land at GB for another 18 holes or so.
Giles
Apr 29 2008, 12:25 PM

baldguy
Apr 29 2008, 12:59 PM
well the collaborative part will be getting everyone's input before going to the city. that's the spearheading part. after it's approved we move on to the duckstringing.

Apr 29 2008, 02:19 PM
I think there are a lot of questions here to think about. Do you want to scrap the course and think about it as a new course that needs to be put in the ground for a complete overhaul? If not, are we planning on moving only a few baskets or are all of them going to stay exactly where they are? Are we still wanting to take advantage of the tee pads that are out there? I've been looking over aerial photographs of the park and trying to think of the park as it is right now, how Beltbuster is laid out, and how Buckey marked it. I came up with a way to have an A and B tee pads keeping with basically the same layout, but tweaking where about half the baskets sit (the baskets more about positioning around trees) and readjusting just a couple of original tee pads, but I can see doing a similar type course with the backwards flow also. We need to do a good job of staying away from the other park users and remember the back of creek at Greebelt will probably be torn up at some point. I think we need the meeting of the minds and commitment to what it will really take to get whatever we decide done.
Giles
Apr 29 2008, 02:21 PM
I am out of the loop and can't wait till this evening to find out. What are you/we planning for Greenbelt? par 72 or something? 36 holes? Duck corral?
Thor
Apr 29 2008, 02:38 PM
yeah tweaking a few baskets here and there may be a good idea. I think jack had a good idea about moving 18's basket up near the gb teepad #1 in the middle of the willow trees and teeing off near hole 1's basket. Leaving the main traffic areas alone should be prettty easy too. I don;t really think of it as a new course or overhaul, just a different direction and diff set of obstacles and shots..also I don't think we would be able to use hardly any of the concrete tee pads the way its sorta set up now, and I think the less baskets we have to move the easier...Im ready and willing to string these ducts..:P
dryhistory
Apr 29 2008, 02:47 PM
why dont yall lay out the beltbuster and maybe do that thing they do at renaissance in charlotte, nc, where they overlay two courses on top of each other, you could use the baskets from porter ;)
baldguy
Apr 29 2008, 02:55 PM
There is a ton of land attached to each end of the current GB setup... I'm hoping we can talk the city into letting us put porter's 18 (19?) in that area somehow and then raising money for a new 18 at Porter once the construction is done.
meeting of the minds sounds good :). Then on to the duct string boogey

a bit off the rhino-poop topic... but here's a stupid texas law I just found out about:
There is a "waiting week" period for unemployment benefits. This means that the first week of benefits that you apply for are held back until a total of 4 weeks are processed. If you are only unemployed for two weeks (as is my situation), you *never* get paid for that first week. So... if I was a lazy bum and had just sat on my butt for another 2 weeks instead of getting a job when I did, I would have been paid for that week. Since I found a job sooner than that... I get screwed. It would actually work to my benefit to get myself fired from this job or quit with cause and wait another two weeks to find another one... fun times, eh? stupid laws.

by the looks of it no one is playing a-z
I know of almost a dozen teams who have said they are playing but haven't signed up yet. I think everyone is waiting for everyone else to sign up

How about you give me money for my services. I will yell at you while you hand me your money because you didn't give it to me fast enough. Then I will give you half of what you paid for.
Normally when you pay someone and they don't provide the services advertised, you would call that stealing.
baldguy
May 07 2008, 05:25 PM
what services were advertised that weren't delivered? Please don't say payout, because I've looked at those numbers and they are 100% correct. Don't forget the fees that the PDGA charges, the series bonus buyin, the charity donation, etc. The numbers are legit. You just gotta show up at the bonus event if you want a shot at *all* of the payout. Last year, I got over $200 in plastic just from the skins match. and I only paid $4 to play the skins match... all of which went to charity.
But, I guess what I want from a tournament isn't the same as what everyone else wants. I just want to play and have fun. I have plenty of plastic, so I couldn't care less about how much I win. If you're expecting to drive home with a truck full of discs... you gotta show up for skins to collect the big money :)

No, I have no problem with his plastic payout. I don't ever "cash" anyway. It doesn't effect me because I didn't play his events this year because of bad experiences in 06 but I believe a lot of people were upset when none of the NTS events showed up on the ratings update.
I'm just offsetting your mace nob-slobbin' with a little hate.

also, to put it in perspective:
I played a B-tier in Amarillo this past weekend that had no charity, no bonus. There were *huge* sponsors (Budweiser, Chick-Fil-A, etc). I paid $40 for my entry, $2 for the acepot. I tied for third out of (I think) 25 in MA2 and won $94 in payout. First place was only $108. This payout is exactly like every MaceMan event I've ever played, yet for some reason nobody complained.
My point is just that I have fun at the events whether or not I cash and whether or not the cash is a lot or a little. I just don't get why people are so concerned with their payout that they are willing to bash someone publicly for it. It's going to suck much more when there's no payout at all because we ran off our most prolific TD.

there is no nob slobbin going on, I just don't want to see DFW golf suffer because we lose Mace. someone has to offset the hate, ya know.
BTW, the NTS events that haven't gone in yet is 100% a money issue, nothing else. Rockwall and Waco will go in immediately, I can guarantee that.

I just wanted to chime in even though I have only played one of his events this year. Brian is Brian and I've really never had a problem with him except trying to tee off on time (he has gotten much better), but I do have an issue with tournaments not being turned in as those events were advertised as being PDGA approved. I can't even find him as a current official or even a member (maybe I'm blind). I haven't looked into the rules, but I wonder if any of those events qaulify to be entered into the ratings since they did not have a current official running them. I usually have fun at Mace's events and I try to make the ones I can. I will miss his events if they go away, but I sure would like to see my ratings actually change. This has been discussed, but I wanted to give my 2 cents.

What issue with the money? He got the money..were did it go...not my results....if it was run at a loss that is his fault and if he made a profit or broke even awesome..living on golf only is practically impossible, but don't cut all the players that showed up out of what they paid for
I don't need excuses on why it isn't updated yet...We gave Pizza heck for turning in MJCO late and Mace should expect the same
Run it right or don't run it at all
Starting to look like Blake Huffman, Toolen or Barr problems and I would really hate to see that
I enjoy Mace events most of the time also, but after chewing out 100+ players at Cedar Hill ( he did make amends later - but too late) for showing up...I am concerned about his motivation to be a DFW TD...
rumours continue to fly around and that is all they are, but until he speaks for himself on here nobody knows where he stands and I can't justify feeding more money
I don't care about plastic either, but I do care about results and that we don't have.
If I were the only one feeling this way the event would already be full since it always has a big pull
I only wish him the best in what he does in disc golf and life, but I am also upset about the current state of the NTS

ON A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT NOTE
GB Backwards shorts is in the ground..all 18 teepads (bricks) are marked and done...we are going to play them tomorrow night if all works out well..hope everyone enjoys them..
Parker, Bucky and I spent 2 hours out there tonight and I think it will be a fresh change..some great ace runs and some good shots w/o the basic GB Hyzer line
I think it will play much easier than the current layout, but we have the longs next..and they won't :)
See eveyone tomorrow at GB 5:30 TEE!!!!!

technically, yes... although I will have plenty of help :)

As for the mace issue... I don't know the details and I'm not here to make excuses. All I do know is that if I can go play one of his events and have fun, I will. regardless of what rumors and/or truths may revolve around that tournament. I don't think it's fair to equate him with the people you just did... that's just another way to start nasty rumors that have no basis in fact. I don't know if the money is just sitting there waiting for the PDGA to accept it or what is going on, but I know that the results have been turned in, but the PDGA hasn't posted them yet. The only time they do that is when there's a dispute over money.
All we know for sure is that Mace has been the PDGA's most prolific TD for several years. Right now he has issues with them and how they do things. That is for them to work out, and whoever has reservations about one thing or another is wasting their time worrying about things that have nothing to do with them. Ratings aren't what this sport is all about. Slamming someone because your rating didn't get a few rounds calculated in... well that's just silly. I agree that he griped at the wrong people a few times... and he knows that and has apologized for it. Too late? I guess some things can never be forgiven by everyone. I know I've said a few things in my time that I regretted immediately after. We just have to get over that crap and move on to the fun times ahead.
I don't really want to talk about this issue any more because I'm not Brian and I can't speak for him. I can say, though, that he has always urged anyone who has a problem or concern with him or how he does things to just talk to him about it. Message board bravado and rumor-mongering won't fix anything.
I have offered to take care of the TD side of things for Mace for awhile. I'll oversee the next couple of tournaments and make sure that all paperwork and money gets turned in on time. I'll serve as the non-playing official if necessary. If he asks me to continue after Waco, I will. If he figures everything out by then, that's okay too. I'm much happier just playing bad golf :)

I agree fully and think I took the high road but spoke my mind
equating them...time will tell, but I hightly doubt they are the same club and I respect the man, but am upset
we both said it..rumours..and he isn't speaking..
I just won't tie my wagon to it currently..PDGA differences just keep the rumours rolling..
if he is fighting for a good cause let us in...
Mace is a good guy and good people...times are just challenging him and his players currently and w/o a voice from him..
tough to decide what is going on
On the other hand..it's Mothers Day and mine is in town for a month...I have a dinner to eat...and pay for :)
