If you bring in 5 food items you will get $5 off entry. We will donate all food to the Food Gatherers. http://www.foodgatherers.org/
We will have a Chili Cookoff for lunch. Currently there are 4 competitors to see who can make the best chili. We will have a quick vote to see who wins. All chili is free for players but we ask that you "donate" three food items to food gatherers.
We will have at least $100 added cash to the Open division for this unsanctioned tournament.
Ace Pool will be $5

Actually it is Bruce Brakel's idea for a tournament, but we stole it.

When I did it, it was the California State Championships of Michigan. It was lightly attended. Much fun but lightly attended. It is a format worthy of another try.

i bet you would have had more people attend if there was also a CHILI COOKOFF!!!!!!!!

I would like to enter the cook-off, but not in the chili category -- that is so cliché. I will be grilling turkey burgers with blue cheese on my portable propane grill. Merry Christmas!

Okay, Sheila won't play (too cold) but she'll enter her Cashew Chili. (Don't tell her I said so, but not as good as the spaghetti sauce I made for dinner tonight, containing something like 3 pounds of meat and mushrooms.) What fun!

Wow, cashew chili reads delicious. Please contact pres@local101dg.com to coordinate.
Lunch right now will be either at the HM activity center OR Josh Romines heated barn. It depends on the snow. If there is snow on the ground, the cross-country skiers will be taking claim over the activity center and lunch will be at Romines. If there is not enough snow on the ground for skiing, the Chili Cookoff will be in the activity center.
We should know 3-4 days before the tournament so there will be an announcement on the lunch location.

Just wanted to clarify that I`m not insulting those who are making chili, I`m just trying to `kick it up a notch`.
Kidney beans and ground up cows is cool with me, I just like to mix it up, you know, keep people guessing. Complacency is the mother of obscurity.
Be safe on Dec 31st! No driving if you`ve had too many!

hmmm, seems like a thinly veiled potshot at chili connoisseurs to me! Turkey burgers with bleu cheese are good though, just make sure to add some burnt onions, tomatoes and zip sauce.

It will depend on the weather and the state of the teepads. If the weather is OK and teepads are clear then you can assume long tees for Open. Probably won't be decided until the day of the tournament though.

This is unsanctioned, we have no ties whatsoever to the PD$A. Play where you think you belong.
Keep in mind that Pro and Advanced are the same price, and Pros play for cash with at least $100 added.
Also keep in mind that this is a charity event for Food Gatherers. Please bring 8 non-perishables for $5 off entry and chili lunch.

Oh no doubt, I'll be playing Open, the cost comparison made it a lock. I was just curious. I've heard a million good things about 101 run events, so I'm looking forward to it if I can find a ride up to A2.

Obviously it's a bottle of 100% pure maple syrup to the winner of best chili.

Nope, I'll be working this weekend. I'm in the process of moving to the west side of GR, no time for golf right now. I will be playing the GR Ice Bowl the 19th though.

I vote for longs. Of course i wont be there, but the only exception i can see to having the pros play shorts is if there was a foot of snow. plus, the longs make for such better courses! carpe diem!

We are having a meeting tonight to discuss format for tomorrow, and this is all subject to change, but here is the most likely scenario:
Pros and AM1s will play OG longs 18 in the morning followed by Monster longs 9 in the afternoon. Monster holes will likely be 1, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18. Pros and AM1s will play this loop.
Other divisions will play monster 18 shorts in the morning followed by a loop of Original 9 in the afternoon.
For all chili cookers, we will be in the activity center for lunch.
Hope to see a good turnout tomorrow, don't forget your 8 food items for $5 off entry and free chili lunch.

Wow!!!!! I have never in all my life had such yummy chili as there was on Saturday. Daemon's was sweet with a gingery/lime punch; Jantilla's was 100% organic with great toppings; Sugar made chili with red wine, a microbrew, sirloin and sausage; the 4th one (can't remember the guy's name - sorry!) was sweet and hearty with a spicy zip at the end; and you haven't lived until you've tasted Sheila Calhoun's cashew / raison vegetarian chili.
THANK YOU TO ALL THE COOKS!!!
It was very motivating to bring in canned goods and get free chili lunch during a tourney. Nice format, 101!

Congrats Joe, the dark horse winner of the chili cookoff. The real winner though was all of the players who got to try 5 excellent chilis as well as the bleu cheese turkey burgers with roasted red pepper and tomato.
Thanks to the cookers:
#1: Daemon
#2: Joe Antilla
#3: Al Schack
#4: Derrick (who's chili actually had a name: "The Creeper")
#5: Sheila Calhoun
Turkey Burgers: John Davis.
I will search around for the official voting results, but I do remember that Joe's chili received 11 votes, and the 2nd place chili was 7 votes.
Thanks to everyone who brought cans for food gatherers. We did get a large amount of cans and Romine's truckbed is now full.
The results, oh yea we did play a tournament. Open winner was Bennett, 2nd Koontz and 3rd was Mr. California Mark Ellis. Full results will be up on local101dg.com soon along with images.
We'll see you all on May 3rd for Loco at the Mills.

Man, that was a fun tournament. The weather was awesome (for January in Michigan), and everyone seemed to be in a good mood. I kind of liked the long lunch, because I had nowhere else to be and it was nice to just relax and enjoy the chili and burgers and a few brews. Great job Local 101!
