So, is this better than Facebook?

Thanks for the invite. But I'm confused. What does a site like this do? Or what do we do on it?

John, not necessarily better than Facebook. Different. Definitely smaller and more local. I am on Facebook, too, as well as LinkedIn and MySpace (although I rarely go there.)
Mark, you can write notes to people, post things, share pictures or videos. I am hoping to use it to help me get better with the "names and faces" thing with area disc golfers. There can be discussions, too. People can post stories on the blog part. Maybe swap and sell discs. Get rides for tournaments. And so forth.
Until about 6 months ago I did not think much of social networks, but I've been researching them and using them a lot and there are some positive potentials.
Maybe nothing will happen and it will die out. Maybe not, we have 17 people in there now and I am liking it. Part of my job is to watch these new things happening and think about them. I like to play with new things.

It looks a lot like a Pre-Formed Forum Portal. If you can add individual pages for things like Tournament Results lists, Upcoming Tournaments, league points, etc. it would be absolutely perfect. It basically does most of the things I do at TADGA that take frustrating coding and sets it up so anybody can do something like it.
Very cool. I'm going to have to look into how customizable it is and if the code is Open Source...

I believe it is Open Social, Woj. I see that you have also joined the new place I created that is intended for disc golfers from all over the US: http://www.discgolfer.us. (http://www.discgolfer.us) Thanks!

I was more curious as to whether or not it was Open Source (like LiveJournal's code) than Open Social... I'd have loved to set up a site or two like this on my own server to tinker around with the code.
