Kick out the Yams is Nov. 17 at the Meridian Sun (Ball) Golf Course, http://www.meridiansungc.com/page/197-6331.htm, in Haslett. The course for the most part will follow the regular course and be par 72. We went out earlier this week to layout the general layout of the course, but will not have it finalized until next week. I expect the distance to be similar to Byrons 13,000. I will keep you posted.
The tournament will be singles with 1 round of 18 and probaly 1 round of 9, unless we lucky and have time for more. Lunch will be available on site for $5. Registartion day of will be 7:30 to 8:30 with tee off to follow shortly after.
Registrtion should be available on line shortly at http://www.teamoverthetop.com/TOURNAMENTS.htm. For more info on the tournament or a pre reg form you can go to http://www.ccrdiscgolf.org/Kick_Out_The_Yams.htm.

wow thats sweet bob, nice work...
when's it goin in, can we get on it before the event at all, need 2temps lemme know...
/guessing it'll be the same chainstar fleet as byron day-of
probably hard to call an early start time if frost is a factor...

Frost might not be a factor that late in the year, if the grass is already dormant. Frost is an issue when the grass is still green. I'm sure Bob is on it.

Drew Dutton is one to thank for getting the course. Drew's brother works there and after hearing about Byron they really wanted a tournament. If it goes good, then we will do it again next year, but when the weather is a little nicer.
The course is going to go up the week of the tournament I am not sure what day yet though. I will let you know when I know for sure along with what the cost per round.
Discraft came through for us and loaned us 18 baskets for the tournament.
I set the early start time in hopes of getting going early and maybe having time for 2 full rounds. That may be dreaming though.

Is there going to be a bushel of free yams along with registration? Perhaps nice and cooked - possibly mashed - with some butter, pecans and 100% pure maple syrup mixed in? mmmm

Hey Bob and Brad - The flyer states the correct course, but the tournament schedule on the CCR site still says Grand Woods, you may want to change that... :)

I just emailed Karolyn to change the PDGA tour page to say Haslett instead of Grand Ledge. Funny how the pdga page said Grand Ledge, the CCR site says Grand Woods.... :)

It appears to be a cart fee, not a greens fee. :) Apparently the pros are using carts?

Meridian Sun is getting $10 for every player that we have. At our tournaments we usually pay out ams at 125%, but at this tournament with $10 cart fee we are only going to pay out at 100%. We can do this because we give away discs at higher price then what we paid for them. Pros on the other do not make a profit for the club so we can not cover that fee for them. Turnout usually dictates how much the club adds to the pro payout. If we have good turnout the club might add $100 to the pro payout, which if there are only 10 pros would make up the difference.

I have uploaded the preregs they are at http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=6465
At this point I will start taking no money preregs. Just post a message or Email me and I will reserve you a spot. I will treat these the same way as Bruce does where if I reserve you a spot and you do not show up I will never reserve you a spot without money again.

Speak of the Devil! Put me down for a cashless pre-reg. Put me down for Pro Master. I might bag down to some am division if I wake up moving slowly on Saturday, but I shot Holly under par for 27 yesterday.

Where are all the Ann Arbor and Detroit poeples? I can't believe with the turnout and how much fun Byron is that more people are not coming to play this golf course with carts.

Well, it was 30 degrees warmer during the practice rounds, not to mention not the beginning of firearm deer season.

Nov 16 2007, 01:56 PM
I have not seen the course yet. Don't know whether it is good or lame. I'll be there for the tournament.
The first Byron tournament only drew 60 players or so. But 60 in late November was good enough to explain the concept to the owners. How many golfers would they have in late November?
Hopefully they are gas carts? If you have not played a tournament with carts, wear extra layers. You don't get warm from walking and there is some wind chill zipping around at 20 mph or however fast those carts go.

gorgeous mid30s morning today at gWoods, somehow a lil flurry with similar temps sounds much friendlier than the weather y'alls had at the byron dubs...
Registartion day of will be 7:30 to 8:30 with tee off to follow shortly after.

It's always tough when a non-fan accidentally schedules against the local equivalent of the Super Bowl! I'm the biggest non-fan you'll find among actual UM grads. I buy in completely to Jerry Seinfeld's analysis of sports fandom: The players change every year. Four years from now its an entirely different team from the one they have now. So what are you really rooting for after all? A color scheme on a uniform.
Go Maize and Blue. At least they are cynical enough to admit it and play right into it!

The carts ran fine. The tournament ran fine. I had to leave early because Kitten had steaks on the grill and I was riding with her husband.
With a couple of tweaks that would be a pretty good layout. I'd like to play it in better weather.
Thanks for keeping the pro masters together for the Final Nine. By the time the threesome caught up with us, they were on their last hole.
Looking forward to seeing if my round broke 900.
