Kudos to course architect and planner Edward Drukis! Ben and I just played the new 9 holes on the Eastern Michigan University campus.

With the exception of Hole 4 - which can be overlooked and skipped if you are not paying attention - this course is pretty much wide open, which adds a new dimension to the wonderful set of local courses we have around here now.

Six of the holes have both long and short tees, the tees are currently grass with the exception of Hole 3's long tee which is a pretty interesting tee! Some of the long tees are quite long: 415, 445, 510, 480. We really enjoyed it and I was glad to get par at 27 with one birdie and one bogie (and one lucky 120' upshot that went in).

How to get there: The course is next to the EMU softball field. If you are coming from US-23 or Ann Arbor, you need to get onto Huron River Drive and go past the entrance to McAuley Health Center (on the left) and Rynearson Stadium (on the right). Take the next right, onto an unmarked road that has a sign saying that the softball field is ahead. Then take the next left, toward the softball field (just before you get to the student housing area). The first hole is on the right, about 2/3 of the way across the softball field parking lot.

It can be difficult to figure out how to get onto that part of Huron River Drive if you are coming from Ann Arbor. I recommend driving out Packard Street instead of Washtenaw, and turning left onto Hewitt, which dead-ends at Huron River Drive at the entrance to McAuley. Then you turn right and do as described above.

We were impressed that there were actually already score cards there, too!

Good to see things are still moving around that area!!! More courses, more courses, more courses!!!! Terry thank you for all the work you do around the area. I am looking forward to making it back for a visit soon, and some nice casual golf with some of the crew. Open invite to any who wants to come golf in Florida during the winter.

Yes the eastern course is in and alot of fun to play. Longs are like White Park in Bowling Green. Lots of field, wide open, but it's still tough because of the rolling hills. The pin placements are awesome, good use of elevation.

Yes, Eddie designed this course based on the types of shots and holes that he likes. Those playing the course may find some extra distance from basket to teepad between the holes, but every hole that has a walk to the teepad is worth the walk.

One word of caution. On Hole 4, you do not want to go left over the fence. You will not be able to retrieve your disc unless you want to climb barb-wire fence. Hole 4 presents a great opportunity to practice your roller. :)

Also want to add..

The course is not complete, teepads still need to be poured. General rule is that you throw to the left of the signs. Eddie was planning on not announcing that this course exists until it was complete, but I guess the word is out now..

It's pretty hard to hide a course in this area...

Casuals have been sighted in their native habitat...

The course was WINDY yesterday, made it much much harder, I saw a 1000-rated pro take a 7 on a 350ft. wide open hole.
