I have found from last year's experience with Bark at the Moon that people who like to throw glow plastic in the dark are not the same people who like to play doubles in golf carts at a course with a clubhouse and a cash bar. Last year Bark at the Moon was full to foursomes and Big D was over full. This year we are taking fewer players, but our date wound up on the Mystic weekend instead.
We are now 1/3rd full for the doubles. If you want to play the Mystic and not miss out on the golf course action, we're doing singles on Sunday. That's a lot of golf on little sleep, but hey, you're disc golfers. You sleep at work on Monday.
Mystic is a great tournament. So is Byron Big D. Next year maybe we can do the Big D a little earlier, maybe against the Full Color Classic or something on the other side of the state.
There is a Big D Thread down in the Waterford Junior Girls' Club area. Waterford is a little closer to Byron, and the Junior Girls will be volunteering at Byron. I won't be watching here for cashless pre-reg, but i am watching the Big D thread and catching all my e-mail and message board mail here and at Discontinuum.org.

i wish you would pick better dates for this event. i've already committed to help with/play mystic mills. for those committed to this byron dubs but who also love glow dg, please keep in mind that the following week i will be running the 4th annual bark at the moon this year at vienna park in temperance , mi. on nov. 3'rd. should be a SWEET time! for more info. go to www.tadga.com (http://www.tadga.com) or call me at 4195094028.

If it fills this year and they don't sell the course again, next year we should be able to pick our date. Last weekend in September would be nice. We're not likely to go to the USWDGC next year.

ETBP (estimated time of basket placement) will be Oct 12th. That is 2 weeks of practice time before the tournament. Cost for rounds will be either $10 or $15 w/ cart. I will double check that today to see what the cost will be. Usually it is the same as their fall prices for ball-golfers.
Anyone interested in playing and possibly volunteering to help w/ baskets on the 12th I will pay for your rounds that day. Just PM me for details.

Oct 04 2007, 03:25 PM
Pre-tournament rounds at the course will be $10 per round that includes a cart. The clubhouse is open on Fridays w/ beer specials. Food will be available, but limited due to end of season.
If you can't make the tourny, at least give the course a try. You will not be disappointed!

Oct 04 2007, 03:28 PM
That is awesome.
So will it be playable on Friday the 12th?
Mark_Stephens
Oct 04 2007, 04:06 PM
My guess from helping put them out last year is MAYBE. It takes time to get all the baskets out on the course as you can only fit 1 -2 baskets on a cart. So, it depends on how many people can help on how soon Friday they will be playable.
DSproAVIAR
Oct 04 2007, 04:23 PM
Alright, keep us posted. Would it bee possible to play a 1-round organized $5 or $10 doubles on a Sat or Sun before the tournament?
Mark_Stephens
Oct 04 2007, 04:25 PM
Tracy will probably chime in with an answer but, I think that it would most likely be fine. People gamble all the time on the course and the more people that use the carts the better to the golf course...

I'd be down for some dubs out at Willow Brook. I can't imagine we would need explicit permission to do so. A bunch of golfers show up and we play, the course is happy to make a couple of bucks. We don't need to advertise a money round to them, just do it.
Mark_Stephens
Oct 04 2007, 05:18 PM
I was just basing that on the tournament itself. The course is getting a TON people out there to rent carts and to buy drinks/food. This would not be any different. Anyhow, if something was to go on the weekend prior that would be cool...
DSproAVIAR
Oct 04 2007, 05:21 PM
I wonder if they would cooperate in opening the bar for a couple hours on a Saturday?
janttila
Oct 04 2007, 05:59 PM
Okay, just spoke with someone at the course. The restaurant is only open from 4:30-9 on Friday for their fish fry. So if we played a Friday afternoon 9 the bar would be available
bruce_brakel
Oct 04 2007, 07:09 PM
Feel free to organize any kind of warm up event you want to play. If the clubhouse is open it is $10 each to play and you'll get carts. What you wager on top of that is not an issue with them. They'll want you playing in foursomes and doing consecutive starts on hole 1.
Friday the 12th I'll get out there early to set up baskets. I'll bring my little red wagon and get the front nine set up at sunrise, assuming its not frosted and I'm not a big liar.

Yes, continue on with the pre-tourny plans for playing. Golf courses usually work on tee times, but I guarantee nobody will be turned away. Set up a time with your group and give me a shout (8104718997 cell) . This is the one course that is less than a mile from my house.I'm always up for an early round.

Friday's weather report: Partly cloudy, w/ a high of 53 F. Winds NW 10 to 20 mph.
Baskets will be in place tomorrow morning. Anyone wishing to get in an early round come on out. Greens fees are $10, that includes the cart. The clubhouse will be open for business later in the day. If you are coming out to help with baskets or just want to play an early round, I am offering to pay your greens fees. My cell 810-471-8997 Tracy. Or just call the course.810-266-4660

I will be out there to get some baskets in. I don't know if i'll be sticking around for disc golf. If the Sunday pre-MDGO meeting round is going to happen, I would like to get in on that if i'm feeling up to it. My diverticulitis is getting better, day by day.
It is really easy to get from the course to Todd's house. All of the north-south paved roads in that area, Oak Grove Rd., Argentine Rd., go down to M-59. Go east on M-59 and then start following your normal directions to Todd's house. I could lead you there.

2007 Byron Big D Doubles Weekend
Players’ Guide to Willow Brook Disc Golf Course
Out of Bounds: All greens and sand traps are played as out of bounds. Never throw from a green or sand trap, but bring the disc in bounds 1 meter and take a one throw penalty. All ponds and creeks are out of bounds. Cart paths and bridges are not out of bounds. Play where lies.
Please keep golf carts on the cart paths as much as possible using the rule of perpendicularity. Never drive carts through roped off areas. Never drive carts on greens or golf tees. Avoid driving in areas where there is mud or standing water.
Except on hole 3, the white out of bounds stakes are casual for disc golf. The farm field is not out of bounds. The neighbors’ yards are out of bounds.
All tees are marked in pink on the paved cart paths except 15. Distances were recalculated this year with a wheel.
Front Nine Feet Par Description
Hole 1 875 4 Tee: 50 feet forward from white tee on cart path. Basket: Pin long, left of cart path. The roped off areas in the middle of the fairway are out of bounds. 340 feet to the roped o.b. from the tee. 275 from the red stake to the basket.
Hole 2 910 4 Tee: Between blue and white tees on cart path. Basket: Left of green in roped off area. The pond and roped off area to the right of the middle part of the fairway is still out of bounds. The ropes near the basket are decorational. 300 feet to the pond. 340 feet to clear the pond. 285 feet from reb and blue stake to basket.
Hole 3 405 3 Tee: At white tee on cart path. Basket: Right and well short of green, 50 feet from o.b. Christmas tree. White stakes mark o.b. line on right and behind basket. The cart path and left of the cart path are o.b.
Hole 4 1060 5 Tee: Drive down cart path past 3 green. Drive past hole 4 golf tees. When the cart path forks, make a left and go to the top of the hill, following the cart path. Basket: left of green in trees. Water in creek is o.b. even if not flowing. 940 from tee to creek. 120 from creek to basket.
Hole 5 605 4 Tee: At white tees, on cart path. The hole is a dogleg right. Basket is pin long on right. The white stakes do not mean anything. 265 from tee to pond. Hole distance is based on playing right of pond rather than safe. Hole plays like 700 if you play it safe.
Hole 6 680 4 Tee: 50 feet forward from white tees. The hole is a dogleg left. Basket: On right and 180 feet short of center of green set in the trees. Pond is o.b. Farm field is in bounds. Stakes are decorational. 300 to black and white post. 380 from post to basket.
Hole 7 1090 5 Tee: At drain cut 35 feet forward of white tees. Basket: Right of green by the 4-trunk and 5-trunk trees. Sand trap is o.b. 470 feet from tee to clump of trees where fairway turns right. 420 feet from white stake to basket.
Hole 8 450 3 Tee: At blue tees on cart path. Basket: Right of green by Y tree and ash tree. Lefty hyzer hole and righty anhyzer.
Hole 9 630 4 Tee: Drive to end of cart path. Basket: Past mature trees on right side of golf fairway. This hole has been changed from last year.
Front nine: 6705 36 Tournament players may take a ten minute break for flush toilets, beer or other needs at the club house. If you accidentally play through a group at the clubhouse, no penalty.
Back Nine Feet Par
Hole 10 550 4 Tee: At white tees on cart path. Basket: 150 feet past center of green, by big Christmas tree and pricker bushes. 325 to sand trap. 350 green.
Hole 11 900 4 Tee: Near white tees on cart path. Basket: Left and short of green past pond between trees. 650 feet to pond, but mostly downhill.
Hole 12 750 4 Tee: At bridge. Basket: Over hill, beyond pine trees on left side of fairway. 450 to pines.
Hole 13 1110 5 Tee: At white tees on cart path. Basket: Past pond on right, on peninsula in trees, 130 feet short of green. 400 feet to electric box. 680 feet from tee to white stake. 280 feet from red stake to basket.
Hole 14 680 4 Tee: At white tees on cart path. Basket: Around to the left on hill.
Hole 15 420 3 Tee: Look for tee flags quite a ways down the fairway set in the pine trees. Basket: Set behind the green. It is 340 feet to the front edge of the green. You think you can throw 400 with a tail wind? Prove it! Warning: Just ahead of the tee are some pot bunkers. They are not o.b. but they could tip your cart. Go around.
Hole 16 400 3 Tee: At white tees on cart path. Basket: Sixty feet past green on right side. 285 feet to front edge of green.
Hole 17 770 4 Tee: 30 feet forward of white tees on cart path. Basket: In orchard on right well short of the green by 400 feet. The big sand trap is o.b. The creek is too. 225 feet to 275 feet to the creek. It curves around. 325 to be safely over creek.
Hole 18 1195 5 Tee: 50 feet forward of white tees on cart path. Basket: At big bush to the right of the green.
Back 9 39 6775 36
Total 13480 72
----------------------------------
Every team will get one of these on Saturday. Every group will get one on Sunday. If you are going out to the course, this is a lot more accurate than last year's that they have.

The tournament is full, assuming everyone shows up. I'm taking a waitlist. You know, you can come on out, and if we can't get you in, you still have time to get to the Mystic Mills. Also, the Sunday singles are wide open. If you come out with your doubles partner for the singles, I'm fine with putting you in the same foursome for the first round.

I am afraid not. We did get wasted at Dave and Busters and I schooled a manager at hoops like 8 games in a row and he is still cussing himself out about it. Then I schooled my boss at shuffle board while he talked shoot the whole time so it did end up being a fun night. Unfortunately the meeting from hell that I am in right now is clearly going to carry over to tomorrow so I will not be coming back until friday. No byron practice for me...

Is anyone at all going to Byron either tonight or Friday? If so, and if the factory is on the way, we need a favor! The hardware for the baskets still remains at Discraft and you can be a hero if you're willing to swing by, pick it up and bring it to Byron as soon as possible so the baskets can be assembled. If you're that wonderful person, call Tracy G. at 810 471 8997. Thanks!
