Renewed Opportunity for Course in Pittsfield Township

Pittsfield Township just purchased a 47-acre property that is primarily currently a par-3 ball golf course. It will be turned into a recreational facility. Having played on a number of disc golf courses now that had previously been par-3 ball golf courses, Ben and I are pretty eager about getting disc golf into this park.

A few years ago the township, having just purchased a much larger piece of property, was very interested in disc golf, but there were issues of environmental sensitivity as well as the cost of clearing land, etc., and some disc golfer chaos as well. They clearly wanted that piece to be a "preservation" piece, so we backed off.

I have received a reply from the Parks & Rec Director at Pittsfield, having sent him a message about the possibility of a disc golf course in this new piece of property, and about some of the courses I had seen - little or no clearing to be done, no environmental sensitivities - and his reply starts out "Great idea!"

So, I don't want to blow this opportunity. There will be community meetings in the fall about this and I want to ensure solid disc golf representation. Reading the article, I think a key point is finding disc golfers who are "nearby residents" - if you know of any DIG 'EM OUT AND GET 'EM INVOLVED!

I'm pretty sure Foz Miller told me he lives right on the course, or very close nearby. He comes out to ypsi doubles most every Tuesday. I bet there are alot of Pittsfield residents that come out on Tuesdays, too. Terry, you should make up some DG propaganda about the meetings (where, when) and distribute it, or just make an announcement.

I golfed there a few times, years ago. Its a perfect candidate for modification into a fine DG course. Not much of a course as ball golf goes, pretty shortish with some trees and bunkers, but it could make a nice layout for DG.

JP Trias lives in the subdivision right to the north of the course i believe and i have told him about this and he will make every effort to make it to any meeting that will help get any disc golf course near to his house.
