View Full Version : Fritz Park
I'm new to the area and have been looking for a course to call "home". The nearest to me are Fritz, Harrington and Cedar Hill. I haven't played Harrington yet, but Fritz is a fun 9 hole with decent traffic on the weekends and some afternoons. Cedar Hill is obviously a great course, but a little remote with very few (or zero) players on the few occasions I have been able to make it out there.
Several days ago, I tried setting up some alternate tees at Fritz, marking them with orange flags, to see what the layout would flow like and if anyone else would try them out. My problem at this point is two-fold. First, the back nine is set up in a backwards format (10 plays to 9 basket, 11 to 8 basket, etc), so the course might not be playable at peak times (which at this point don't seem to be all that busy), in which case one could always play 9 short followed by 9 alternate. Secondly, and the bigger problem, is the frequency with which they mow out there (I know, this isn't typically a *problem* at most other courses). Most of the flags had either been knocked down or were gone when I went back out yesterday, so I'm at a loss as to what could be done to mark the holes .
Regardless of what happens, it's still a fun course and it's only 10 minutes from my driveway, so I'll continue playing it, but the alternate holes are really fun, especially the back nine, which has 3 legit par-4's and a hole that plays over water for 90% of its length (#15, back to 4's basket). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :D

Fritz actually has another 9 holes (with sleeves) that are no longer permanent holes. In fact, the last time they were set up was for a Maceman event and the City was not very cooperative, to say the least. If you're interested in improvements to the course at Fritz, I'd start by contacting Mace (www.maceman.com). He's not the course pro, but he is in touch with the situation at that park and can most likely point you in the right direction.
As for Cedar Hill... get out there on the weekends. Lots of traffic, even a mini on Saturday. It's by far the best 36 holes on one piece of land in all of DFW :D

After the mace man tournament, they dug up the last of the sleeves. The park manager does NOT want disc golf played on the other side of the creek.
There are shorts for all the holes they uses during mini's on Saturday mornings. None are marked, but there are dirt patches where the shorts are.
Harrington park is boring. Really it is not worth playing. I have played it several times and I think one of the baskets has already been stolen.
None are marked, but there are dirt patches where the shorts are.
I thought the cement boxes were the shorts... oops :p. Seriously though, the 9 permanent holes out there are a really good use of the available land. I was just hoping to make it a solid 18 if possible, even if I was the only one to play it. Anyone have suggestions for temp/semi-permanent teeboxes?

bricks or board buried ground level marking the front of the tee box.
Here are some Google Earth pictures with pins and tee boxes I have set up out at Fritz. I went with 28" strips of aluminum to represent kick boards at the front of each tee box, held in place with two 6-inch nails at either side. Let me know what you think, or better yet, try it out and give me some feedback :). Sorry in advance about the picture sizes, but I don't know how to upload or resize things.

I work really close to this park and play it everyday at lunch I can show you all of the alternates Just give me a shout. I tryed to start a mini out there during the week but the locals that play on tuesday did not really sound like they wanted that going on. Good luck I wish there was more interest in this park or maybe getting a 18 hole course in the area. One last thing I have a friend that lives by there and he said that they where getting 9 more holes but they have been saying that forever.

I played a round at fritz at lunch with a local (Ken) He said that Ziggy who currentlky runs the club is turning it over to him and another local. Anyways he claims they are taking over on the 20th of october. So if you want to be involved show up for the Saturday mini on the 20th of October. Hope this works out I really like this course and the locals.

Just fyi about Fritz. Ziggy is taking a month off and Manuel Rodriguez- fritz since 90 and Ken Reagan will run the mini. During this month we will be re-organizing the club to discuss the future of disc golf in Irving. We will try to re-build a relationship w/ the city and also discuss course improvements at Fritz and Harrington. Ziggy is not turing the club over totally but taking a month off. Oct 20 will start his month off and will be back helping the re-organization process.
Fritz park was closed a few years back for 2 years and the last offical club pres. left us hanging. Ziggy has run the club since and has done a super job. This is the reason why the club has been run losely. The future of the club looks good and we wil be stong again like we once were.
18 holes at Fritz has been talked about for years and will be talked about again I'm sure. Fritz has been 9 holes for 20+ years so we do the best we can with what we have. We hope with a stong club 18 will be a real possibility one day.
The locals at Fritz all have been around for many many years and feel the same about 18, but only the future will tell.
We welcome all visitors so your ideas are always welcome.

to get Fritz to 18 holes will take replacing the Park Manager. Until he is gone, there is no chance of it. He already dug up the remaining sleeves a few years ago after damaging some of the Carrollton Nine and cutting all my locks.
