i think a work day, perhaps a pick up trash day, at dineen would be in order. From what i remember, the park could use a clean up in the trash dept.
i would be willing to do some work, perhaps this weekend, if anyone is around.

Is there anyone available to work Dineen next Saturday (6/2/7) @ 8AM? We need to move some gravel & set the frames in the ground for the new tee pads. Please bring shovels, metal rakes, wheelbarrows, and/or a hammer. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Mark, thanks for your help.

I'm urging all who can make it on Saturday (6/2/7) to come to Dineen. Even if you have limited time...come out & work on one hole. Any amount of effort will make the day much shorter for everyone.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks to everyone who showed up today (The Loper Clan, RJ, Kyran, Keef & Charley). It was hot in the sun but we got nine tee pads set into the ground and ready for concrete. That leaves 8 more pads for next week.....be there!

AWESOME !

Tim....you guys are simply MOTIVATED!

Great job out there today! We enjoyed being a small part of our great history of Wisconsin Disc Golf along side of you R.Johnson, Keef, Charley, Kyran....and all the others volunteering thier time and labor!

OOOOOORRRaaaaaaAAAAAAAhhhhh !!!

A fine job by the 8 guys who showed up! Good to see the Loper crew out there, and it was nice to meet R. Johnson! The 'old standbyes' (in stature and longevity!) of Tim S and the Lime Kiln crew (Charlie and Kyran) were once again out there working hard!

Well, 9 forms are ready for cement, but we need more bodies if we are going to pull this off! There are 9 more forms to finish, cement to pour into 18 tees, 18 pads to surface finish, piles of dirt that need to be moved, forms that have to be removed after the pads dry and so on. At Dretzka and Brown Deer, the new teepads still need back filling. Everyone, I know that it is tough to get a work day together now that the baskets are back in (sorry Sleepy, but your theory on more volunteers by putting baskets in was proven wrong this past Saturday), but there is still a lot of work that has to be done. Can we get enough volunteers by just asking, begging, pleading and so on, or are more serious measures needed? Would it make sense to suspend leagues or pull the baskets at a couple of courses until all are finished? I know that depending on the same handful of people to finish things for Worlds isn't fair. Where are all the people who talk so well about helping out but somehow never manage to show?

We need help this weekend. Please come out and help finish the courses in Milwaukee!

How about a morning of work followed by an afternoon round of random draw doubles with a short lunch break in between? A nice mix of work and pleasure. I'm available this Saturday.

Um like I said before announce it at leagues about future workdays. I guarantee more than half the people I know do not look at this. I didn't receive my emails until the morning of. Definetely face to face is better than the internet.

Sounds like a great idea. So, since you will probably be at leagues (I know I won't), can you take care of this 'face to face' contact at tonight's Dretzka league and get a crew together for Saturday morning at Dineen? Let's see it!

Shark-

I assume that all the pads will be poured then this saturday? Can we all agree to a uniform finish on the pads? I think Kozy is right in that brush marks across the ENTIRE surface is the way to go. Then there is no opportunity for slippage. I will be there, and will bring a bucket for water and tools to finish the pads. There was one really good broom the last time we did this, with red handle. Whoever brought that broom, bring it again! We will get this done.

charley

p.s. Don, the bribery of soda for the Loper boys.... I like it! What flavor????

tkieffer
Jun 07 2007, 10:42 AM
Let's do it! I plan on being there at 8:00 and joining in with the 'pad preparation' crew. We need to dig out and frame 8 pads before cement arrives for them. Shovels, wheelbarrows, rakes and people to utilize them are all needed. Let's get the pads poured!

On a side note, we may need people to come out and watch the pads after noon so that no one writes their names, tries to play them before they are dry and so on. Anyone available to hang out at Dineen for a couple of hours after we are done?

dloper777
Jun 07 2007, 11:53 AM
Charles:

I think I'm no longer up for the soda bribe up front....I decided to take the lifelong "kickback" of playing on these pads.........so Nate and Jac labor is free!!! Ha.

Tkieffer............bring your discs folks.......maybe a few putts and holes played can be arranged afterwards.

There weren't a lot of people at Dineen today, but those who were worked hard. There are now 18 concrete tee pads and an anchor for the practice basket which should be in next week. Everyone involved should be proud of the 45 new holes in Milwaukee County!!!

I know you can ,you've made a career out of it(disc golf not woodworking).Side bets, what would you like to give me oops,I mean lose on a wager? Maybe a pink putter? On a more serious note the county should have removed the forms from the tees by now ,I hope , if anyone can put together a small group of people to do some minor back filling around the tees then 98% of the hard work will be done at Dineen. Has anyone been there to see if the 2x4's are off the tees? Mike Batka is the new course pro at Dineen. A great BIG THANK YOU from the GLDGC to Mike for stepping up!!! I'm working on a keiosk for Dineen and Brown Deer. Mark

Hey Mark, I was over to the park about 1:30 PM on my way back from the Loper's and the forms were still on holes 9,10, 11, 18. I did not walk all around though.
I will be building the bridge next week at my house but will not get it installed until early July probably.

I'll be at Dineen at 7:30 am on thursday with Mike Batka to pull the forms and back fill the dirt. After that I plan on going to Brown Deer to do some tee work as well. This is an open invite to everyone who can make it with a shovel and wheelbarrel. Shark

The tee pad forms have been removed and space around the pads has been filled in. I'll be back this weekend to sweep the pads (if Will Mueller hasn't) and rake the remaining dirt from around them. Also, all 18 baskets were moved today. According to Mark Peterson, a few of the baskets have never been in their current positions. Get out there and check them out. The Am Worlds layout will be set up in a few weeks. Finally, there is now a practice basket between the tee pads for holes 1 and 10.

Good job guys, I havn't been around much at all lately with work and the classes I am taking. The courses are looking good.

I don't know if there is a way to link it, but if we can link the Am Worlds map for Dineen to the course directory portion of the PDGA website it would probably be helpful for newcomers.

Most people I run into there or who talk about the course say it is hard to follow (especially for me since the first time I played it it was dark).

I think the AMWorlds map is very helpful and if it could be linked on PDGA it would make the course a lot more user friendly. Sweet map by the way for whomever designed it and posted it.

Just an idea, I'm not always right you know, there was that one time where I said Zubas would be the fashion craze of the future, boy was I wrong.

I'm out,

Will

Just buy a Yardage Pro from Walmart for $100-$150. They're totally worth it. Use club funds and pass it around between clubs so everyone can have GOOD measurements.

FYI - All of the baskets at Dineen Park that clearly have long and short positions are in the long ones. Hole #10 will be moved short soon to allow for a fallen tree to be cleared.

A third pin position will be added to a few holes later this year or next Spring. I'm also working on a surprise out there. It would definately debut next Spring along with tee signs.

Dineen will stay open until sping thaw. The internet says that it will close Dec 1st. That info will remain on the PDGA course directory. I don't like haveing to many people playing regular courses in the winter. Dineen doesn't get the summer play that the other courses get. Thats why it will be open this winter. Baskets will be pulled March 1st (more than likely). Thanks to Mike Batka for doing lots of stuff out there. The county carpenters are supposed to be putting in a permenant bridge sometime. Will this happen? I don't know (when). They removed the old (new) one because it did not have a hand rail. There should be a keosk out there in spring also. Tee signs are in the works. Thanks Shark

Hey!! Well it sounds like we need to find a new course pro for Dineen park. I don't think Mike would be doing it from Mad-town. If anyone is interested, I would love to here from you. If anybody thinks that they could urge their friend into it, go for it. Being the course pro could mean as little as taking a few e-mails and moving baskets to starting a league ,making new plans, or doing anything needed to improve the park/course. If someone has had a interest indoing something positive in discgolf but wasn't sure what to do ,now is a rare and golden chance to step up. Thanks Mark the shark.

Pat,

I think I moved the baskets right after you played. I saw your car when I got there. Thanks for noticing.

It seems like the course is holding up pretty well and once the others open I'm sure it will be left alone enough to heal.

With the exception of a few areas the course seems to have taken the spring well.

Luckily most of the non-regulars don't seem to know about the course at all. I was at the bar tonight with a Dretzka shirt and was stopped by more than 5 strangers, none of whom knew Dineen existed.

Hopefully I am able to recruit some people for next Tuesday's doubles/trash pick-up festivities.
