Yeehaa! Another exciting round at the "Fid". Modesto's ace pot will be there to add to the already large pot from Stockton. Let's see Jim Reese can defend his current reign as the "Fid" singles champ.

Way to go, Jim Reece. He aces his first hole of the day, hole #3 @ 320 feet for a cool $690 due to the combined ace pot of the Baskethounds and Windjammers disc golf clubs. Nice! :D

Jul 04 2007, 12:46 AM
No Jim at the next weekly. Many Windjammers bummed about the "no" beer!!! BTW, Jim did offer to buy beer after he hit the ace and everyone kinda said "naah, it's all right". Internally I was thinking "ya, baby", but I had to think about driving home already!
Jim, if you are reading this...we want beer!! I speak only for the club...and myself.

Jul 06 2007, 10:26 AM
The Delta Windjammers will be changing the date of the Fiddleneck Monthly for July only. The change is due to the fact that the Frying Pan will be on the 4th weekend in July.
Jim Reece will be bringing some beer. He wants to bring it to the site of his monumental $700 ace. Hole #3 will now be known as Jim Reece's Hole. :p

We only had 6 of us out there this past Saturday, but that was enough for a match. Jim Reese brought a ctp prize. It was a PIAS bag with matching towel and mini. Inside was a champion Eagle. Bob-o took it home by getting 2 ctp's before anyone else. Roc on! KL

This Saturday will be the 4th Saturday of the month. That means 23 holes of bliss at beautiful Fiddleneck Disc Golf Course at New Hogan Dam. That's right, 5 extra holes;one of them will be an island hole (alt 18).
I talked to Brian the Ranger out there and he said he would change 15-18 back to their original positions. Yes, 17 goes 749ish!! Can't wait. KL

I wish I had seen your post before I played today. Started on #10. I was -2 when I pinned #14 in the long, -3 now. I did not even notice the change until I over drove #15, I went back to #14 and parred it dangit, then bogey on #15, parred #16, bogey #17. I was shocked that I did not notice the change in pin positions. I finally parred #17 in the looooong and I birdied #18 for the 1st time on the 2nd round. Great day of disc golf, two rounds of -5.

Fiddleneck was awesome yesterday! It was windy, but 18 players braved the currents and battled hardily on Valley Springs' finest links. Sorry, La Contenta. We played the regular 18 and 5 extra holes. What did you think of the "island" hole? I had a lot of fun and I hope everyone else did too. We played "blind doubles" where you find out who your partner is after the round. Ray Birch and I took the top prize! We brought all the extra baskets too!!!
It looks like Jennifer Smith has made her last appearance at New Hogan for a while. We will miss you, Windjammer! Jen and Dave Avery did quite a bit of volunteer work in Modesto, Stockton and at The Fid. Thanks for your awesome attitudes and barbecues.
Next month at The Fid will see some new safari holes, so mark Dec. 22 on your iPhone calendar and we'll see you no matter what the weather's like. KL

There was no tree damage any where along the course which is good. I wooped on Jim Reese with a -4 to his +5. I will be sanding the "Fiddleneck Trophy" on Monday the 7th, then prep it for painting.

Played Hogan today. It was nice weather when I arrived although there were white caps ripping across the lake. 4 holes later it started to rain with the wind. I tell ya it was one hell of a round. I managed to squeak a +3. Nice work on Holes 12 & 14 Kenny. I even blew the sidewall on my shoes LOL. I believe the weather dude is calling for some crazy weather this Saturday.

Thanks for noticing my work. I removed boulders from 11,13,15, and 17. One boulder I couldn't remove on 15, so I built up the pad around it. Hole 1 had puddles so I took care of that too. We need to get some more of that rock from the quarry pounded in on some of those tees. Anyway I'm going out there Saturday rain or shine. Bring the magic umbrella!

The ace pot is still avialable for next Saturday. It survived another weekend out at The Fid. Weak turnout, but who cares. It was awesome out there today. A bit blustery. I threw one in the lake and the lake is still 100 feet from the basket. Was really glad to retrieve it as I have 3 aces on that Monster. Had a 6 on the big dam hole the first time and 3 the next. What a roller coaster out there. Way fun, though. I love that course.

My press agent, Ray Birch, put in some hard work out at the Fid recently. He scratched out a new pad for #17 that doesn't have a restricted path. We'll play it on Feb. 23rd for the monthly. I'll be sure to bring the floating trophy out there and put it up for grabs. ciao, KL

May 19 2008, 06:59 PM
This Saturday is another "Day at the Fid". It's that time of year where we have to move 17 into it's summer position. It's still a good hole.
The plan for this Saturday is to try some new hole positions. We will put a long 3, long 6, new long 14, short 16, and short 18. We'll play double holes on those settings for a course at least 22 holes long. We will not play 15 because long 14 is pad 14 to 15. In all cases, your first drive is for the shorter positioned baskets. We're going to need a lot of help to set this up, so I'm hoping you will all start getting volunteers ready now.
Anchor Boy will be there!!!I think we need a tradition where Anchor Boy brings the anchor and a 12e of Anchor Steam!!
I would like some feedback on the new pin locations, so don't be shy about chiming in. KL...out...

Mmmmmmm beer! I did not know #3 & #6 has new pins? We should use the upper parking lot by Hole #1. Sunday filled up fast by boaters. Shall I bring by two baskets? Shall I bring my pick axe to clean away some grass on short 18 (I am guessing we will throw from the orange flags)?

May 20 2008, 12:32 AM

Yesterday at The Fid was a lot of fun for the 4 souls that braved the rain. Tee-mac (anchor boy), Ray, Tony F and myself had a great time out there.
I thought the new four temporary hole locations were fun and fair and 14-15 is a real challenge in which to get a 3.
The next monthly out at The Fid will be June 28th. Maybe we can get at least 5 players out there.

Sweet Alternates: After you play 18, go to the left side of tee pad 10 and play a new hole that goes from south to north. Then drop down and play the island hole. Then to the corner of the parking lot to the catcher's mitt. After that, there will be a hole heading back to tourney central. If someone else brings a basket, put it on the hole between 6 and 7.
I'll bring the anchor!!

We'll meet near the boat launch where the extra holes will be set.

I got this info from Ranger Girl @ Hogan on Wednesday via a phone call. It is supposed to be open in a couple of weeks. We can add one or two holes across the canyon then from the stop sign towards hole #1. Maybe one across the canyon towards the stop sign because we have to have a #18 island hole.

Oct 23 2008, 10:43 PM
I'm bringing 3 baskets. One for the island, one for the "up to the boat launch" shot, and one for the "next to tee-pad 11" shot. Yours will go in the catcher's mitt and the shot from the boat launch to the short shot into the trees and rocks. If Mike Corbett shows up, he'll put his between 6 and 7. If Bear brings his, he can be the stop sign line to the parking lot. That's 25 holes. Bring your endurance and watch out for Sapp. He has the DW #1 tag and wants the anchor. Way to go (son I never had)!!! :D

So yet again the Fiddleneck RULES! It was great to meet Roger Cansler. He is one good golfer. I tried to keep up with him in that first round, hard to beat an easy -7 (for him with borrowed discs). The second round I played pretty great until I double bogied #16 then bogied #17 to be 1 stroke back of Mr. Smooth (I was -4), now -1 on #18. I had a decent drive but short putted a 40ft downhiller for par. I managed to stay ahead of Teemac to get double nickel tags and give up dbl deuce. Lucky for us Dash has no control of his HUMONGUS DRIVING ABILITY. His drive on #17 was 50-60ft out, level putt but was 2" short to get over the lip for birdie. What an amazing drive. As always, GOOD TIMES (Thanks Mike)!

Another great day out at Fiddleneck. The fog lifted just before tee-off and all 18 Windjammer and Baskethounds bounded off into the lush Calaveras County hillsides for 22 holes of luxurious flog. We played double 6, 7, and 8 to get the feel for some possible alternates. Feedback would be nice and don't be afraid to be constructive. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Ryan took home the golden anchor, that punk. Now there's a big hole on my kitchen window sill.-2 took the cake yesterday. Honorable Mention goes to Tony (say hello to my leetle friend) Catania. He was putting lights out during the round and driving well off those slimy red tees. Jan 26 2009, 02:16 PM
Tony (from the small Italian town of Catania) is putting well. Very crisp .
As for the alts: I like the alt for #6. I also like the fact that it can even go another 75 feet further. 3 alt pin positions on that hole is what I want to put in the ground.
Hole 7, I thought, was just too long with basically no windows or fairways. 30 or 40 feet shorter would be better for that hole IMO or we could put in an alternate tee-pad further back. I loved the alt for hole 8. It had a decent challenging distance and the sidehill will cause numerous problems off of the tee. I would also like to see another pin position short/right up lardog's alley.
Next month I propose we check out some alts on the back 9.
I like a longer 10th in that open green area. Hole 12 has a number of places for alts right, left and longer as well as a possible alternate tee-pad. There is a lot of room on the left for variations for hole 13.
I would like to, very soon, get a work party up there to dig some holes while there is no football on tv and the ground is soft for excavation. Let's do it (Dr. Phil)!

I agree with #6 in the long or longer. #7 could possibly be longer and left of the current position. #9 could be hyzer left near the rocks. #12 needs to be long over the hill!! Could just play double 14 short and long (current 16). #15 could be longer and left down the hill past current position, Some extra alternates could be after #15 but I need to decide if I want to hump my baskets that far. #3 could be changed to left side of the big oak and higher up the hill. #4 could be lengthened to the right below #5's pad. Chug Chug Chug Cheers!

Ray Birch kicked some major boote' Saturday at the Fid with a sweetly fashioned 10 down to take home the anchor for April. The closest contenders were 5 shots off his torrid round.
Ray and I set up 5 never-before-seen holes that were all birdiable. I thought they were fun and easy at the same time. I got the first 3, but had trouble with the other two. I liked the 4th one the best. It had a major drop-off by the pin, which I went over.
Overall 26 players showed up to play the weekly with about 6 or 7 of them Mutha Putterz(thanks for showing up, guys).
Nobody hit the ace, so it is around 570 now.

I just think it's time for The Fid to do it's own thing. No disrespect to anyone or any club.
The ace was hit last week anyway. Aces don't come that often at Sidearm City. The Fid deserves it's own ace pot. Next, Ray needs to start a club and...voila, The Fiddleneck Chain Rattlers were born...naked to the disc golf world, yet accepted.
Ray, now that the roads are open, we should utilize that opportunity to make for easy basket pick-up after the round. If you want to lug your baskets up by 3... that's cool, but too much work for my body!! I'm putting at least one after 18.

I am hoping Mr. Sappenfield will kindly relinquish "The Fid Anchor" this Saturday (Memorial Day Weekend). I am hoping for a few of us to show up? I will put up the following temp holes, after #3, we will shoot from last months pad due North uphill (I am guessing it will be 300+ft), then 3b will be shooting across the valley to the big oak tree near Hole #4's pad (last months 3a hole). Thanks for going easy on us mortals Kenny even though you are still not 100%. 18 players played 22 holes, Kenny won with a -6. 6 of us tied @ -3. Thanks to all of you for making my transition to running my first Fid monthly go smoothly. The Fid ace pot stands at $107. I hope there was no problems with me paying the top 4 only, I hope everybody is okay with that. I now see the value of blind draw doubles (it gives other players a shot at something), I am looking for any kind of suggestions to give other players a chance at some cash because I want people to continue to make the trip to The Fid. Things may stay the same until a possible Fiddleneck Chain Rattlers Club is started, then a handicap system could be implemented. Next month I will put up another disc or something for a CTP again on Hole #7 (nice Frank). I think 3a & 3b went well, I may make a 3c for next month (any suggestions would be welcomed). Thanks again my friends for a GREAT DAY! Peace. 6 of us played a $5 doubles round afterwards, Teams were Amador Sandbagger Society members Ray Birch & Jim Reece vs Modesto Basket Hounds TMAC & Josh Sappenfield vs No team affiliation Matt & Cliff Bryson. We played 21 holes and the Modesto boys (young & old) earned the buckeroos with their -12. Jim & I finished at -9 (thanks to our double bogey on #17) and Cliff & Matt at -6. A great day at The Fid.

With Ray unable to fulfill his duties as TD due to illness, Kenny stepped back in it and took care of business. Unfortunately he could not retain possession of the anchor. Josh chained up to the goldish winged weight with a nine down, Jim Shultz (insert a Hogan's Heroes quip) took second with a seven down and yours truly took third with four down. There were Mutha Putters there to round out the field that let the cash trickle down to a few with minus twos.
Now it would be nice to hear from others about the idea of starting the monthly earlier for the next couple of hot summer dates. I wouldn't mind starting at 7 or 8am, but I know that's not possible, is it? 9am could be doable for most I'm sure. Let's hear what you guys think.

Josh's -9 with a 5 on 17 ties the previous course record in the long positions set by your's truely a few times. Others have come to the course and told me that they shot better than that, but I don't believe them. They need to do that during a weekly or a tourney.
Large Marge's -9 came with 15 and 17 in shorter positions.
As for starting at 9 next month, I won't be there, but it sounds like a good idea to beat the heat.

I will get that course record via 18 holes one of these days. CYA @ Stockton on Wednesday. I agree to change the start time to 9am for Summer time.

16 players showed. It was a great mix of people from Modesto, Stockton, Sacramento and Amador. Josh Sappenfield is "King of the Fid Anchor" with his -5 and a third straight win. Congrats!! And thanks for your CTP donation of a Discraft hat and a Lightning disc which went to Mike Wood. My CTP of a Pro Beast (Foggy Bottom Stamp) went to Mutha Putter Chim Chim. Jim Reece and Neil (Mutha Putter) tied for 2nd & 3rd with a -3 and TMAC with last cash -2 (NICE). Next month I will add a handicap. I think this will help keep players showing up for a chance at cash and maybe bring in more players from other clubs. I had a great time shooting a +1, Acepot is at $205.

King? The boy is a mere jester. At best, a page boy. :)
Surely you joust?
I played the fid today. -8 with no bogues(mugsy). Did not birdie 6, 7, or 14. 3'd 15,16,17.
Missed my 24 footer on 18. Lots of chain, all pain.

Sounds like someone wants to get all medieval on the reigning champ. Mere talk of past crusades will not deliver the hogan grail. Others are prepared to battle to wrest control of the gilded danforthe. At the ninth hour after midnight on the twenty-second day of the eight month the quest will begin.

I hope we start at 9am, cuz that's what told everybody last Sunday before singles, not that they listen very well or listen at all. Also I hope we have a snappy first round, I get paid the ace money, we take a quick break for beer and food and then a snappy doubles round. ssssnaaaaapeee.

And 9am it began! 16 players from Stockton & Modesto and I think a transplant from or to Oregon (I still forgot his name :), enjoyed a relatively COOL day at "The Fid". Kenny Lee (Our local kick everybody's ARSE on a regular basis Grandmaster) threw down a record tying -9. He had -10 at #4 but I did not tell him he was in true Gold Medal Range. He boogered #4 but he was on cruise control since #17 after his PAR 3. Congrats on the win and the double dippin! I hope everybody was okay with the handicaps, I started myself, Kenny and Josh at +4 to start and we still took 1,2,3. Do I need to add another stoke of two to us for handicap? Max on the am side is Dave Bear with a -6 and he threw a +4 today (FARKING KICK ARSE BEAR! HE DUECED 18!), Handicap wise Kenny took top honors, Dog took 2nd and Krash and Josh split third, myself and Bear took 4th with -2 and no bones. I think the handicaps were pretty fair to start. Question, should I cap the ACE POT or let'r ride (my vote is let'r ride)? Should I change it to $1 entry (my vote is stay at $5)? I think it was a GREAT day at "The Fid" and next month I plan on at least 4 extra holes (my three with one at Kenny's suggestion on Hole #10). I think I will put three extra holes on the back 9 this next month. C-Ya next month at "THE FID" my friends!!

The camp hosts are gone. I am guessing they will be closing up the parking lots soon. So we may have an #18 island hole, maybe a catchers mitt hole the monthly on the 26th. Crazy weather yesterday, my buddy Ross and I got rained on hard one time for about 5 minutes with some major thunder directly overhead. We hid under an oak hoping not to be a lightning rod! I had a good round of -5 even with a bogey on #16, #17 and #18.

Nine would be prudent. It's been really hot for the autumn's beginning. Yet this is CA and we expect it. This is my favorite time of the year beside, spring, summer and winter. :)
Extra holes, eh Ray, if the parking lot below is closed for the year? I'll bring a basket. Island?
I have a Discraft 2.0 Maximum Distance Force at 172 grams with an End Of The Trail design in Z plastic for the closest to the pin on hole #17. Bring it! I'll be bringing the "Floating Anchor" ( I like to call it the golden snitch ).
Ace pot is getting up there at $5 a pop.
Looking forward...

Yep 9am until the time change at least. Extra holes will be on the back 9 this month. There will be a long #10 for sure. The others will be made depending if the parking lots are closed. The ace pot entry will stay at $5. As far as I know right now I will make this Saturday but things may change. I had to take my Pops to the hospital yesterday, I should know by Thursday or Friday whether they will have to operate on his foot. I will let you all know what's up as soon as I can.

I will definitely will make it Saturday. Played Hogan yesterday with my buddy from British Columbia, he is on vacation, and I threw a nice -6 with no bogeys and I aced #14 again!! Nothing is closed yet but I suspect it will be soon. I think a dbl #10, Dbl #11 and a dbl #12 will happen this Saturday. My Dad should be out of the hospital on Monday minus a little bit of his foot, diabetes is no joke.

I spent 2 rounds of my life out at New Hogan yesterday hangin' with Mr. Birch. Well, not exactly hangin' wit him. He shot a -2 and -8 while I shot a pair of evens. The course was in great shape and I picked up a bag of trash for each nine we played. Probably made $10 off of some idiot not environmental, anti-recycling, trash moguls;probably too drunk to remember where their can was last sipped/throw on the ground, don't care about anyone else, loser.
Anyway, it was still fun. :+)
I ask you to:
Please pack it in and pack it out(even if it aint yours).

Finally finding time to add results from "The Fid" on 10-24-09. New anchor boy Danny Corbett shot a -7, 2nd "Lefty" Ryan -6 and Chris B. -5. They all double dipped with handicaps. I now realize the error of my ways with running handicaps, their handicaps should be what they shot since I have no record of their previous #'s, that is how they double dipped. My apologies to everybody, I will do a better job next time. It still was a fantastic day of disc golf with perfect weather. Great news, I talked to Head Recreation Ranger Nicolas Figueroa, and I presented to him a proposal with approx. costs of rubber tee pads, extra pins and garbage cans. He liked the ideas very much and he wants to put in 9 more baskets, after Hole #15 (my suggestion). He has experience putting in disc golf courses on US Army Corps property with help from Tim Guild (Fresno). I told him about the CVS finals at Hogan and he was pretty excited to hear about it. I have his business card Kenny if you want more info. How much are basic bag tags? Does Alien Eight make them?

Danny Corbett bested 24 other players to keep his claim on the Golden Anchor. His -7 was enough to win by 2 throws over a very enthusiastic crew of wannabees.

Since the December monthly is the day after Xmas, I encourage all those who are planning to play it and have a family, to tell your loved ones now. Don't wait till Xmas morning to bring it up. Put it out there now so everyone can get used to the idea. Remember to bring up the huge ace pot and how lucky you're feeling and what great way it is to relieve the stress of the holidays. Maybe ask for it as part of your Xmas gifts. It's too late to do what I did, which was to talk about it at dinner the day of the last Fid monthly. Air it out early and get a jump on that holiday guilt lifting.

My sole reason for giving that advice was so golfers' families could get in step without lasting effects. It is best to kick around plans for the holidays, booting out the bad ideas and stocking up on the good ones. That way nobody feels like a heel and the golfer can get pumped up about playing the Fid. I wrote that tongue-in-cheek advice for those loafers who don't think to talk about their plans with those whose lives they are interlaced. Still let oh those merry soles enjoy the season.
