Seeing how everybody is looking for something to do , this tuesday at Dretzka at 5:30/ 6:00 I'll be there working on the new nine holes across from 11-14. Bring ashovel ,wheel barrel, and rake. I think it will only take a couple tries to get it done if a bunch of people show up. Only 5 people showed up last sat. That makes less than 20 total for 2 work days. How pitiful. It would be a shame if all the couses have to stay closed for another month. Spread the word and bring friends. See ya tuesday at Dretzka. Shark

I'll also be at Brown Deer next sat. at 9:00 am to work on the tee pads. Please bring a wheelbarrel and shovel. If you can make it let me know . If enough people can, I'll get concrete ordered. See ya on sat. Shark

Milwaukee County Disc Golf Courses Need Your Help!
Brown Deer, Dineen, & Dretzka Disc Golf Courses will NOT put their baskets back in until the necessary work is done.
All 3 of these courses need some work done such as tee pad preparation, debris clearing, and trash pick up. The only way this will get done is if YOU help out the club.
Work days are Tuesday nights and Saturdays. Please contact Mark Peterson so you can come and help out: 262-224-5824

There are many people who are willing to help, but many do not read the PDGA discussion board. Is there some other way to get the word out?

Hey guys , Travis I can't think of an easier way than I'll tell some people , you tell team swed , and so on. I don't ever really expect people who don't play in tournys to show up but their are some people who I am surprised have never showed up who I know read this board alot. I posted that league question just to see how many views it gets a day, about 35. And how many responded, a bunch. So I know people are seeing it ,but everybody thinks they don't need to help because playing is more impotant. I'm used to that attitude so I just keep trying. Always open to suggestions.

I'd love to come on a Tuesday but I have class for the next two weeks. It's also a little bit of trek to be there at a reasonable time if I get out of work at 4:30 then have to travel north of Milwaukee during traffic time! I'll see what I can do about Saturday work days but this weekend is out.

The views can be misleading, somedays I can look at one thread 10 times, like this one I have looked at 4 times times today. In my opinion, remember just a opinion, would be to start leagues and announce at leagues, future workdays. There is usually a lot of people at leagues and it is easier to get the word out and people are a little more willing to work if there is a course in the ground. Many people have donated money and time, but cannot play any courses. I just think people are fed up with not having courses for a half of a year and in return are not willing to put forth anymore effort on the courses. Just my opinion.

Sleepy,
Info on the 4/28 work day is also on the GLDCG web site (thanks, Uncle Joe!) and was also emailed using the distribution list that we send out the club minutes among other lists. We are trying to get the word out in more than one way, but we can always use more help in spreading the message. Please feel free to send out the word if you can think of other methods that would be effective.
Mark, are you having a work day this next Tuesday? If so, I'll reserve the time and make sure I can make it. I'll also send the word so we get it on the club site as well as emailed. Thanks for everything, and thanks to all who have been helping out!

Hi , yes their is a work day next tuesday at Dretzka at about 5:30 . Shovels ,wheelbarrels ,and posthole diggers will be needed.I know people are not happy that the courses are closed but they are closed for a very good reason.TO SAVE AND PRESERVE IT , MAINLY THE TREES AND GRASS. After so many years of being open during spring with so many people walking on the areas the ground gets pounded down so tight it does not let water absorb to the roots ,then the trees die.The most damage is done this time of year when so many fair whether golfers who haven't played for a few months see it nice out all head out to the park.A lot of parks don't see the traffic that Dretzka does so so the damage goes slower. Valley view is a perfect ex. 50% of the trees on that couse have died because they put to many woodchips down, it's nice to walk on but not tree /grass freindly. There was a picture in the paper a month ago of people shooting at the pvc pipes at Dretzka. The article said 60 people were there. The park people agree fully with me about keeping the courses closed untill at least May 1st every year.Next year we'll have a winter disc course on the ball golf course that we have to install also . Plenty of work still to be done .The baskets will go in around May 15 (unless it rains every day).

Hey Mark if you're looking for concrete help I would say take the initiative and give Larry Kempen, or maybe Mike Wondra a call. These guys have the experience in concrete applications.
Especially Larry Kempen since his family owns and operates a masonry company and have all the industrial concrete tools, MIXERS that would help make the job more efficient. They would be able to effectively install the concrete tee pads.
All you need to do is ask them for help. I don't think everyone has access to this discussion board so they haven't seen or heard your request for help.
Of course it would be great if everyone took the initiative and contacted you of course but then again it's not a perfect world.
Hopefully you do get a hold of them for help. They definitely would be able to efficiently and effectively install the concrete.

I just spoke with Shark a little while ago and here is the plan.
He is going out to DRETZKA now to start creating the locations for the new baskets and tees after hole 11 (on the other side of the road).
As always, we could use shovels and wheel barrows. Please bring both if you can.
He will be out there most of the day and hopes that everyone can show up later this afternoon. Feel free to call his cell if you have any questions. 262-224-5824

Hey Josh ,Thanks for the heads up with Larry , I don't have his phone number, my # is 1-262 224-5824. Any one can give it to anyone who wants to help. I know those guys talk to Travis alot and he is well informed. We can't use mixers or heavy equipment like skid loaders because it would take longer to fix the ruts inthe grass than it would take to do the work .I'm trying to get concrete lined up for tee pads this sat at brown deer so if any body can make it let me know ASAP so I know how much to order. The only thing I really need to to this stuff is bodies (and wheelbarrels). I know everyone doesn't read this post but between those that do everyone is a phone call away. We have had very low turnouts for all but one work day(15 people 3 weeks ago) I don't make it a habit to call someone just because they do it (concrete) for a living. The help from other people is just as important. Besides if I have to call people who want to help, how am I to know exactly who those people are?Anyone who plays league or tournys knows that it is volunteer work ,that's why I don't really like to single people out. Tuesday May 8th, I'll be at brown deer at 8:00 stripping the forms off the tees. Hope to have them to Dretzka by early afternoon to start preping the tees there. Shovels ,posthole diggers, and wheelbarrels if you got em. Thanks Shark

Again - huge thanks to the dozen or so people that showed up last night at Dretzka. More clearing was done on the new wooded holes, tee pads were prepped and framed, and holes were dug where the basket anchors will go.
8:45 AM this Saturday to pour the concrete for the new tees & anchors. Shark has it all planned out so we just need bodies, shovels, wheel barrows, and a few solid hours from volunteers. Pretty exciting stuff. Each day we seem to get closer and closer to getting our courses in the ground. Mark's cell number is 262-224-5824 in case you need to call him.

Sat. morning I'll be at Dretzka at 7:00 am to finish the prep work on the exesting teepads,#1,2,3,and 18. My paln is to top the old tees with new concrete and raise them up about 3".We need to dig a trench all around the old one except #2 ,that has drain tile on the left side as you look at the basket. If any one has a chance to dig around the old tees before sat go for it. All you need is a shovel. The wood for the forms is on the tee so you can see how long to dig the trench. About 4" down from the top of the old concrete. Any questions call me at 1-262-224-5824. Thanks Mark

Yeah you can say more ... what is the plan for the work that needs to get done at Dineen? I'd apologize normally for a 'thread drift' but it seems like a new thread is started on here every 5 minutes so I figured I'd just ask here.

Thanks Pat, Terry ,I don't have a plan , I just wing it because it's so hard to get a answer/response from people. I just do what I can do and see who shows up and what gets done. Then decide what to do next. I figure the same totally awesome people who keep showing up to help will keep showing up whether baskets are in or not. And we can put up signs so more people can get the info and thethe cry babies will shut the &@#% up. Next work day will be at Dineen on the 19 . Or should we wait until after the GMO because there is no way to know if we can finish the tees before then. We do have to wreck em to put a form on em and then fill them with concrete. So I don't know . What do you think? I like starting new threads , besides I have to make up for the last 4 or 5 years. Mark

Sleepy,
Did anyone pick up a solid blue star wraith on hole 16? It would of been close to the trees but way right. I forgot to pick it up. There was no stamp on it but had a ghost stamp of sandy point.
Peace...
