That is if nobody hits the Stockton pot this Wednesday.

I had fun playing in the B-hounds weekly. Couldn't keep up with Koski though :(. Kenny Little hit ace pot for 370 or something. #8 long...which is still really short! Went in on a spike hyzer monster bounce. Way to go "the other, other Kenny"! :D

That means there will be two chances at hitting the ace that weekend - one on Saturday at the "Fid" and one on Sunday at the singles weekly in Modesto. Also Jim Reese will be bringing some cold ones to the "Fid" where he scored on hole three.

A sunny and cloudy day with a nice breeze out of the west, I mean south, no north, wait a sec east, gave the fifteen who played perfect conditions for an ace, but that didn't happen. Jeff did double dip with a six down and Rich, by his own admission, stunk it up for second place gross with a four down. :)

The city is on the verge of regrading the land north of Dry Creek where four of the new nine holes are located. These holes, the long one from the bluff, the long one to under the bluff, the short one on the mound next to the path and the creek crossing after hole 12 have been removed. You can still play the hole across to south side of the creek and the holes to and from the pump house.

Bobo Pumpkin hit the ace on Sunday on his last hole of singles. A forehand skipper on 18. He shot an eight down that was good enough for first place net of 8 under. He almost hit the trifecta, an ace, first in gross and first in net, but somebody shot a nine down to take first in gross. ;) So the anticipated humongous ace pot for the monthly next Saturday at "the fid" will drop about three hundred, but it still is large.

The start time for singles on Sunday is changing to 9am! Starting this Sunday, March 16, we will be teeing off at 9am! The park is getting crowded, the course is getting crowded and it is only going get more crowded as the weather gets better. An earlier start time will allow players to play at a crisper pace and finish the round closer to noon.
Also the work on the park near Scenic is being delayed till May or June, because of the students who use the bridge. A completion date for the work has been estimated to be mid-Summer.

Teemac
Apr 22 2008, 11:27 AM
Zach shot ten down on 4/13 and thought he was gonna double-dip, but Jimmy White shot one over with a minus ten handicap and took first in net money. Rich came out to celebrate 4/20 with a seven down, but tied Steve H. for first in gross. We've been playing hole 3 short and long (to 4's pin) and from the rock to 7's pin plus from the path to the practice basket. In the back we play a long safari hole after 12 and from the bridge path to the pin before the pump house hole.

Bridge path to pump house sounds a little scary and fun.

Twelve golfers turned out Sunday. Zach took first in gross and for the second time in three weeks hit an ace, but has yet to buy into the ace pot. He hit "old" hole one with a forehand on the fly to post a thirteen down. Andy showed up and took first in net by a stroke over Edgar. Zach said that he wasn't buying into ace pot, because he already had four aces this month. Now he has five! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Results for the 18th of May: Rich woke up early enough to shoot 11 down, no bogies, even though he played the top like " a little girl." Dave Bear finally took first in net shooting a 2 down with his -5 handicap. Lar-dog and I split second and third place money tied at five down. I made an announcement for New Hogan next Saturday so hopefully we will have a big field when I defend "the anchor." Rich said he won't make it because he plays like "a drunken baboon" there.

So I go out to play singles after a 5 week rehab stint (sounds cool that way). I play well, birdie the safari hole, get an ace. When we go in Tim says -14. So I'm thinking that's about right, I get home and look at the card it's not added correctly. It should be -15. I look at the card carefully and a birdie was missed on hole 4! So I start replaying the round in my head and it's actually a -16! I know! Crazy right? Tim's a cheater and he can't add. I hope that doesn't mean someone got paid when they weren't supposed to 'cause that would sure be awkward for Tim to have to ask for money back.....OK so no one has to give any money back but geez I can't pass up an opportunity to stand on Tim's avacados.

I think I'll have Rich do all the score cards from now on, of course we won't know what the scores are, until he takes them home and adds one player's score per day - there could be a backlog after awhile. Until someone finds a better system, we'll just have to put up with my mystakes.

I really don't know the record for doubles. Sixteen down for singles. Once on the short 18 holes, twice on the complete 27 and twice with Tim's modified courses. Tim and I shot a -18 on 19 holes once and I think he also did it with Monty Harrison. Nineteen down is the best I've ever heard of but there may be others. You and I could shoot a -22 Kenny!

Just think what Kenny and Zim could shoot! Sorry rIkO - just making some guacamole.

As for changing the day for singles - I have no hidden agenda. Some who live in fantasyland don't understand the reality. Soon it will be getting darker and Stockton will switch to Sat. which will not be in conflict with Modesto. Also the cvs will start and that won't be a conflict either. Keeping it on Sundays allows there to be more golf for those who choose to play rather than splay. I'll consider changes when there is a better reason than the NFL season (like a conflict with Slamball). :D

The roundabout curbs have been poured but there is still sidewalk to be done and the pads for the restrooms aren't poured. It looks like it will be awhile til they pave anything. I am waiting to hear from the city what they think the completion date will be. We are still playing singles on the holes in the back just not across the creek.

I have been giving some thought to how we might move forward with getting some tee pads in on <font color="green"> </font> <font color="blue"> </font> holes that don't have one currently. With the cost issues of concrete pads, I hunted around on the net and pasted below a few options and observations I found. We need to start the ball rolling towards this end. I don't know what the financial situation is regarding monies being forcasted for this effort...but figured knowing what options are available can't hurt. Any thoughts from the area golfers would be appreciated.

The LAUNCH PAD is the ultimate disc golf tee pad. Made from recycled tires, it has superior drainage, great traction and extreme durability.

There are over 1200 disc golf courses in the United States, and around 650 of them have either grass, gravel, or dirt for their tee pads. Proper tee pads are an essential element to the safety and professionalism of the course. This is especially true on courses that play longer, as the power generated to the throw the disc farther increases the chance of improper footing. During the wetter months of the year some courses are just no fun to play because the tee area is generally too muddy. DISConcepts has a solution! We have worked with a rubber manufacturer who has listened to the needs of disc golfers and helped us create a rubber tee pad specifically designed for disc golf – the LAUNCH PAD.

The new LAUNCH PAD has superior traction, excellent drainage, high tech durability, and a low cost option to other materials on the market. The mats come in rolls of 5’ X 20’ and 5’ x 24’which make them easier to handle and can be cut in half to make pads that are 8, 10 or 12 feet long. We only offer mats in the ½" thickness and firmly believe that anything thinner than that is too "wavy" and does not provide a flat surface. Your order will include a "how to install" guide that steps you through the best techniques for installing the rubber. Or DISConcepts staff can install them for you for an additional fee, ensuring a professional and long lasting installation.

Pat Farrell of DISConcepts has been in the disc golf course design and installation business now for over 8 years, and has constructed or helped construct 15+ disc golf courses. This includes courses at city parks, county parks, golf courses, ski resorts, schools, and vacation resorts. With the addition of tour professional and #1 player Dave Feldberg to the DISConcepts design and installation team, we will be able to provide East/West Coast distribution for a reasonable price, from a knowledgeable staff.

We are confident that the LAUNCH PAD, when installed correctly, is the best footing option for new and existing disc golf courses available. Let us show you how! If you don’t have the skills to install the pad we can arrange to do the work for you, just let us know!

If you are in the process of installing a new course, or are ready for new tee pads on your existing course, please give us a call 864-270-3723 or send an email to disconcepts@charter.net. We will provide a sample of the LAUNCH PAD as soon as possible. We encourage you to hold this product side by side with ANY other material out there and see the difference! Hold the material up to your mouth and blow! Yes, you can blow through it just like water will flow through it.

We provide fair pricing with excellent customer service. We look forward to working with you.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Tee pads may be natural (i.e. grass and dirt), concrete or other advanced construction (i.e. running track ash, wooden planked for elevated tees, etc...).

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc golf course tee pads may be constructed out of a variety of different material. Determining what type of tee pad to build is usually based on volume of usage expected and cost. Tee pads range from high maintenance natural turf, wood chips or crushed granite to very low maintenance screed concrete. Shape is usually rectangular with more emphasis on a trapezoidal design with the wider edge along the back edge of the tee pad narrowing towards the front. Other emerging tee pad mediums include rubber mats. Design standards encourage tee pads that are at least 12 feet long by 6 feet wide (front) by 9 feet wide (back).

------------------------------------------------------------------------

We installed rubber tee pads at our local 9 hole in Carbondale, CO. That was about 3 years ago [I think]. We laid down small gravel, and installed the pads on top. They've held up pretty well, but there are some tears around the sides and corners. Overall, I would say they are holding up well and will last several more years.
They were easy to install.

I like playing on them, they work well. Considering the winters we have here, I think they're holding up really well. Because they are black, we just kick the snow off of them in the winter and they dry very quickly.

Nay i say on the poopy tire pads we roll cement in motown and i would think we are still waiting for the final construction layout before entering on this path of pads and signs for the back =] just my thought

also if the course changes due to the construction holes may change

steelyone
Oct 15 2008, 03:22 PM
Yeah...waiting for the construction to end is kinda mandatory....I was hoping we could do something for the holes we'll be playin for the Classic. I can remember some of the out of towners complaining about our lack of pads on the back back last year....and here we are a year later with no progress. But who cares...right?

I don't know what the cost estimates are for Cement Tee Pads....but my guess is....we are not even close to coming up with the funding at this point. If it rains on November 22nd....it outta be fun.

Perhaps we could do something in the mean time to get those "pads" in the best shape possible, without any monies being spent. I am willing to try if someone has any ideas. I have a shovel and a rake......

I thought about 4x4's laid into the ground ...just as a stop gap measure? at least for the 4 or 5 long holes we'll be playing on the main side of the park.

that would require a few dollars though.....

of course...we could do nothing, and things will be as they have been .....

it's wouldent be the end of the world.

It would be nice to have tee pads in for the Fall Classic for sure. I don't know if can be done before or not. I turned in the money Modesto Area Disc Golfers raised last year. It was $842.00. Is that enough to do the four tee pads we need for the tourney? I don't know. Probably close. The info I got from the city is that the work on the other side of the creek won't be done until mid-Nov. There is still landscaping and hydro-seeding after the path is done, so we may not play over there til summer. Patience grasshopper.

Sunday's round had thirteen golfers and yours truly shot an eight down to double dip with Edgar shooting six down to double dip in second. Bobo was the big winner skipping into hole sixteen's basket for 252 clams.

There will be a Singles round this Sunday after the Visalia tourney on Saturday in case any body was wondering. It seems to be a small turn out after CVS tourneys, but the ones who do show can take advantage of the tired arms of the weak. :p

Nineteen golfers showed up in the fog Sunday morning although you could barely see them at the start. Halfway through the round it was t-shirt weather. Core-charge took home $256 plus $5 (net tie for 2nd) by acing #15 from the pad. Damon took first in net and I took first in gross.(thanx Rich) :D

One guy said the front nine wasn't set up for lefty backhand shots. What? Maybe one hole isn't.

Signage issues and missing tee pads, what can be done about this?

In case anybody is reading this: there will be two chances to cash in on Modesto's huge ace pot this weekend. Saturday I'm lugging it up to New Hogan for the WJ&amp;MADG monthly and if nobody hits it there, it will be up for the taking on Sunday during singles.

There was a nice turnout for singles. Sixteen golfers braved the threatening skies which turned to sunshine. Steve L. shot a personal best 5 down, but had to be happy with 2nd in gross and net. Beno shot a 4 down to take 3rd in gross and 1st in net (next week he won't be getting any strokes). And once again I have to thank Riko for taking time to heal so I could take 1st in gross and 3rd in net.

The new tags are here! Just got them in the mail. So 9am at the tennis courts to draw cards. Remember to bring an extra $10 spot for the tags. Low numbers for those who remember. Don't forget to put your creek disc in your bag. ;)

Congratulations JC!!!!!!! You know the PDGA offers a $5 discount for the family plan. I'm pretty sure you can sign up little Willy as a junior. Before you know it you'll be out on course pushing Willy around in a stroller. /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
