Hey Marge, how's Kathleen and the baby doing? I finally have a meeting with the city in Feb. about re-installing baskets on the north side of the creek and a guy with city is supposed to meet with me next week about the tee pads on the south side of the creek. I think you should come out Sunday morning and play the new configuration and let me know what you think. I need to hear from you side arm guys.

We had four threesomes battle for the new top twelve tags. I chose to use fewest bogies for the first tie breaker. So MR Smooth took the #1 with a six down with one bogie. He tied for first, but the guy who ended up with the #2 tag had three bogies. Next time most birdies will be the tie breaker! :p

Four foursomes played Sunday. Senor Ptero showed up and took first in gross with 8 down. Mr Pumpkin played well enough to take second with a 3 down and three others shared third with 1 down. Thanks to MR Smooth setting up the fourth basket we played the holes across the creek again and will set them up again on 2/15.

Ten golfers showed up to play in the wind on Sunday. The rain was negligible until the final couple of holes. The round started off with an ace by Egnar with a skip shot on #8. A new guy named Chris Bates also hit an ace and they split 126 clams. Stevo showed up in town to take first in net and gross with a two over.

Even though it looked like rain, there was no rain for the three threesomes that played. A three way tie for first at -3 and a two way tie for net first. No aces.

Congratulations to the Baskets Hounds who played in the St. Patty's Tournament last weekend. Birk Ellis missed being an Adv. Master state champ by three strokes, with a second place finish. Bob-o took third in Intermediate, nice. Duane battled in the Adv. Bagger division with a three down for thirteenth. Last but not least Ol'Splitfinger Corbett dazzled his division with his upsidedown driverputter. :D

It did not rain Sunday and seventeen golfers showed up to play. Josh was the big double dipper with an eleven down. We will play across the creek next week again.

Thanks to the goat heads I had my first flat on my disc golf cart. Too bad I didn't find out about it until I got to the Windjammer weekly last night. Time for slime!!
Had a good time in Modesto last week. Now that Big Bob is gone I was able to eek out a tie with Capn' Sapp for first.
Sapp crushed last night in Stockburg with a sweetly fashioned -11.
The island hole will be used for the Frying Pan. A drop zone will be put in place for errant shots that don't make the faux island.

I hate goat heads! There not everywhere on the course. Holes with the most are 9's green, 11's green and near the path on the fire hydrant hole. All you need are scabs, tire levers and a pump. There's only two weeds that will never grow in my back yard: burr clover and goat heads.

Wow! Third week in a row with twenty or more golfers showing up to play the weekly. (Thanks to Rich putting the info on the bulletin board) Another breezy morning for the middle of June kept scores relatively low. Josh with 8 down, yours truly with 5 down and Dog with 2 down for gross winners. Three way tie in net with Dog, new guy Dan and yours truly. A special thanks to P-hag for bringing his basket and collecting mine after the round.
Josh brought up the idea for a picinic/tag round for the club. He would like to start seeding players in hopes the we could have another Stockton-Modesto challenge. I like the idea. What do people think? (Ben Stein voice) Anybody? Anybody?

Father's day saw 17 golfers draw cards. Actually 15 drew cards because Dash and I were already grouped together on hole nine. With holes three and four being played on top, this 27 hole set up is one of the toughest layouts possible. Pterodactyl swooped into Cap'n Sapp's goup and Josh responded with an impressive -13 to double dip for first with the big bird taking second in gross at -7. Mr. SmOOOth slid in there with a -6 to double dip and Kenny Newbie raked in easy money with a +3 for second net. See y'all at the Fid this Sat.

Nineteen golfers showed up to face the furnace conditions. Heat seems to make play a little slower. Cap'n Sapp shot a five down and sat down in the shade to see if that score would hold up for first place, but it seems Steve Leroi likes playing in the heat as he shot a seven down, a personal best in Sunday Singles, to smoke the field and take a refreshing double dip in the purse. Duane took last cash with a four down and split second place with Kenny Newbie for net money.

Same number of golfers as last week with different results. Kenny Pter showed up to shoot a nine down, but so did Damon. They split the first place gross and Stevel and Roger Cansler picked up the scraps with a tie at 2 down. Damon's hot round earned him first in net money too! With Beno crying I passed out second place net money to Kramer and Dave B who tied.

Ten golfers showed up on Sunday morning ready to play. Matt and Juan made their first Sunday showing and had a good time. J. Cole made the trek from Turlock to shoot a round of even par, 6 birds and 6 bogeys. The door was open but a putter that seemed scared of the basket was his undoing. Still he took home a crispy $5 for his efforts. On the handi-capable side of the coin, John 'Newbie' Newton takes the $20 with a -5. Frankie gets his money back with a -3. I think those 'caps are going down boys. Good shooting! The only under round was by yours truly. I had enough bogeys to be called a 'dumba$$' by the Koskinator, but managed a -1. Twenty cash bucks in my pocket!
Thanks again to Jeff for hauling the baskets back to the yard while I handled the payouts!

There was a good showing on Sunday. Despite the 100+ degree forecast, fifteen heads showed up to battle the heat. Duane threw a turkey and a turkey + 1 on his way to a -4. After double and triple checking my scorecard, I joined him and we split $30. The Kramer that can throw showed up and took third place cash with a -2. That same Kramer used his -6 handicap to crush the field with an -8. Four ratty five dollar bills were put in his G-string. Duane and Lukas tied with -2, splitting $17.50 and dashing the hopes of six guys tied at -1. Better luck next time gents!
Tune in next week to see Kramers handicap vanish like a foot-long keilbasa at an all-girls boarding school!

Sounds like Mr SmUUUt does well when he runs the singles weekly. Double checking his score card with an eraser on his pencil? Hmmm? I'm not suggesting anything. The thread is "weekly info", but the "weekly" refers to our weekly tournament - not what you do after you roll out of the park. For example: Yesterday, the youngster Cappn Sapp was out gunned by D-Balls who shot a nine down and took first by a stroke, but Josh's score had a diamond one in it and his take ended up being three c-notes better. An impatient Rich B. took top money in the net with D-balls and Dan B. splitting second place money. Josh will be supplying refreshments next Sunday as is customary.

Well gosh darned if Teemac didn't miss out on one heckuva chunderfest! Thirteen disc golf enthusiasts showed up to drink tasty brews supplied by young Sapp. After the dust settled, D-Balls once again took the first place cash of twenty greenbacks with a -3. Early morning Dave H. took second with a -2 and padded his pockets even further by hitting an ace on hole #4. Second place gross and net plus the $40 ace pot was his. Forget cleaning pools, I think you found a new part time job! Frankie took the handicapables with his best round ever. Twenty well earned bucks was his and not a tear was shed in the peanut gallery. Good shootin'!
The Koskinator made an appearance to hang out at the bench and I'll bet he is the reason all the good beer was gone by the time I finished the payouts! Nice.......... real nice!
Oh yeah, happy birthday Teemac!

Twenty-seven huckers and chuckers came to play Sunday. Kenny Lee, fresh from his fine finish at Worlds, showed with a Stalker for a CTP prize and then proceeded to give young Sappn a one stroke tappin'. Ten down to nine down. Jeff, the pro from Dover, took third gross with a seven down and there was cash for fourth that went to Duane's six down. Strong playing and a weak handicap let Jeff take first cash in net with LarDog and Phil splitting cash for second and Josh lapping up last cash with his net score. Nine threesomes was a bit of a rigamarole for me. There was no ace pot until I started signing people up; its hard to figure why so many converged.

Ideal golfing conditions greeted twenty-two players. Pterodactyl swooped down once again over the field and flew away with first in gross with a nine down. D-balls almost caught the big bird with an eight down while seldom seen Zach managed a six under. LarDog, Jeff, Pat and myself minced up fourth place cash with five down.
Schizoid Kramer shot a minus two that added to his minus five handicap to take first in net money. LarDog collected second net money with his ridiculously low even handicap. D-balls grabbed third net money and that left Pat, Jeff, Dan and myself sniffing up the crumbs of fourth place money.

Twenty-two golfers again. A couple of boys from Merced showed up to talk up their new course that is close to going in. Next Saturday it will be up temporarily with a round starting at 8:30 sharp. Back to singles. Anchor man Kenny Lee came, probably looking for Bobo, and was grouped up with Cappn Sappn who had surrendered the anchor to Kenny at the Fid the day before. Josh took first with a ten down squeaking by Kenny by a stroke. Jeff and I tied for third with five down. I coulda had third place all to myself but a diamond one on Jeff's card made it a draw. After saying how he hated hole nine's pin position to the right, he bounces a driver in for the ace. Net money shook out with Sappn and Jeff splitting first and second, leaving Kramer and yours truly chopping third and fourth.
It seems like everybody enjoyed the singles round of twenty-seven holes but one!

Not sure what the significance of 22 is in numerology, but that's been the number of participants the last few Sundays for singles. Grandmaster Corbett made an appearance and Kenny Lee was MIA, probably still working on his fantasy team. Scores were low for some reason and youngster Zach snatched first place from his elder Josh, -5 to -3. Incredibly Beno shot -3 and -2 was good enough for cash back for yours truly. Beno, Phil and (can't remember) split first net money and Frankie didn't stick around to collect his cash back for fourth.

Football? Who cares? Twenty-one golfers showed up to play instead of laying on the couch. Josh ran away with first shooting a thirteen down. Next was seven strokes back, but Egnar didn't seem to mind nor did D-balls at five down. Player of the day was Jimmy White who spanked LarDog by six strokes by shooting a personal best of one under. That was enough to take first in net cash. Sadly yesterday was the last day for a few years for a golfer we all enjoyed seeing at the course. We wish him the best. For the first time in weeks running the weekly was little easier; only seventeen entries paid. Could it be that some people stayed home to watch all the NFL morning games? (besides KL) Maybe? Maybe not? Was it that the Raiders played the morning game? I don't know, but, as a long time Raider fan since '71, I've learned that their games are emotional roller coasters and it's best to watch the last two minutes which I did when I got back from playing the weekly.
I came home having won first in gross with a nine down and splitting first in net with Phil (Herbie driver) the Science Guy. I was happy to have played well and made some money, but still I needed to see the Raiders win to keep my gestalt spinning positively. On the last drive why did Jamarcus just fall down? So the ref could throw a penalty flag. Weird stuff! Just look at the stats! Oh yeah stats. Jeff took second in gross with a five down and Pat shared third with Sci Guy at four. Last money in net went to a new guy, David.

Josh cruised to a ten down first place finish while I took advantage of Hooker's crummy performance and got my tags back that I lost to Hooker the week before, but that's as good as it got for me.
Dale made a rare appearance and took first place net money. D-balls who was lucky enough to play with Dale shared second and third place gross money with Jeff who doubled bogied both creek crossings and still shot a six down.

Since the reconfiguration of the back nine holes and the addition of some new pin placements, there are no records of which to speak, until now. On Thanksgiving morning Duane and Rich SOB teamed up and shot a -13 for nineteen holes, we played old 15 (new hole nine) from the wood alternate pad and the tee pad. He and Shane had a respectable fourth place finish out of twenty-six teams. Some guys named Nate and Avery took first up there. Anyway, Pat posted the winning score Sunday with a five down, two double bogeys put me in second with four down and Gerald and Billy P. played off for cash back with a tie at three down. I don't know who won it. Big net money winner was Kevin with a big handicap (might have to readjust his numbers). Zach and I tied in the same group and finished before Duane came in and knotted it all up. Net money went to Corey and Breto for first and Chris W. and Jeremy split last net cash. Shooting a six down to double dip first place money, Dave was finally happy with a singles round since his return to Cali. Jen didn't see it or play; she slept in. I also slept in, during my round! Bretto double dipped second place cash with a five down and Duane was surprised that his two down got him last cash in gross. A new guy Corey V. and Dave Bear split the fin for last cash in net.
In case anybody is wondering, there will be a Sunday Singles round Dec. 20th., the day after the Xmas Open, rain or shine.

Dave Avery took first in gross cash for the second week in a row shooting an eight down. Michael Hendler and Dash split second and third place cash with minus sixes. Dash and Steven G. split first and second net cash and Dave took some more cash with third place net. Nobody will have to worry about Michael Hendler for a while; he flew back to Denver on Monday. But now that Dash has had a taste of cashing in the weekly, he may try to make it a regular thing.

Conditions were excellent for disc golfing Sunday morning. Seventeen players threw from the pads on every hole. The course was set up for the taking and Gerald took it. Cruising to a fourteen down which could have been better, (a bogie and a short missed putt - I know, I was in his group) GLumpkin easily double dipped for first in gross and first in net. Zach had to settle for second in gross money and a tie for third net with a respectable twelve down. Bretto and Davery chopped third place gross cash, but Bretto kept all of second place net money with his ever changing handicap (it keeps getting lower) with a gross score of nine down. Davery also chopped third place net money walking away with only a five spot after playing a solid round under ideal circumstances on the last Sunday of the year.

Twenty hearty souls came out to play the New Years Day doubles round. Duane and Jeremy shot the best round of the year, so far, hitting fourteen birdies, no bogeys to win. Davery and Frankie shot fourteen birdies, one bogey. to tie Kevin and me who shot thirteen birdies, no bogeys. The club made twenty-two dollars with a CTP on hole F8 with John Newbie taking his pick out of the tub of club discs.
The club will continue to have fundraiser CTP contests following our Sunday weeklies.

A typical valley inversion layer lured twenty-five golfers out of their caves. Three newbies, and I mean NEWBIES, signed up and shot 22, 47 and 68 over; probably won't see them again. I hit four putts outside fifty and had a high hyzer approach from a hundred plus out for twelve birdies with two bogeys for a tie for first with Zach, eleven birdies one bogey. Bretto took third with nine down and Bob-o took fourth place last cash with a five down. Kramer played like he should, a two down and tied with Bretto for first in net cash. Third net cash went to me and Tony C. took last net cash.
Eighteen golfers stuck around for the CTP on hole eight and Tony C. picked out a Pro Boss for his four and a half foot winner.

With the promise of a sock soaker round, two dozen brazen disc golfers signed up for the weekly. Sapp and Jeff Michener rolled in with the same score, a eight down. Davery was three off that for third and Pat, Corey and Phil bunched up for last cash at four down. Corey and Phil tied again for first place net; Jeff M. collected third and Dave B. and Jeff F. split last cash net.
Two dozen gamblers threw for a CTP disc and Dave Murillo's buddy Bill walked away a winner!

There was a threat of rain and the Cowpokers were playing the Youbetchavikes in the morning game, so only nineteen golfers showed up to play. Davery took first with a five down and Duane and I were happy to split the rest of the cash with our measly four down. This was a day for a good net score to take some cash, instead Kramer, Jeff F. and Frankie O. tied and split the net pot.
Fifteen golfers stuck around for a CTP disc and Steve L. hit the pole on a bounce and locked up his free disc.

Tyler's solid round earned him first net cash while Stevel and Bretto split second and third net and last net cash was split by Kenny Newbie and someone I can't remember.

Six threesomes spread out across the course and played in typical valley fog. What a difference a day makes. Josh played well enough to pick up first gross cash with a minus ten. Large marJe pulled an eight down and Davery picked up the last bit o' cash. Net wins can be surprising; Chuck shot a single digit score and tied the big Jer for first in the net. Jen picked up the last bit o' net cash to break onto the money list.

XX golfers came out on the IVth anniversary of back IX holes. The grass was wet and the sky was gray, but the course was clear. Bobo was a no show, probably spent the morning painting his body black and gold in preparation to watch his "Big Easy" boys wrangle the Colts. Davery took advantage of Josh's absence and shot a eight down with no bogeys to take first in gross and last in net. The Mouse who roared played out of his mind and took second gross with a six down and first in net with his minus six handicap. Johnny Newbie, who stunned every one at the Ice Bowl with a eleven down, seems to have figured out how to play better golf and posted an even round and took second net money with his now seemingly over inflated handicap of minus eight. The Jeffster edged Bretto out of third gross cash by a stroke with a four under par.
Half the field split after the round and the CTP club disc giveaway was barely making ten dollars until a second chance throw was offered. Johnny Newbie riding a wave of good luck waded away with the CTP disc and the club made double.

Twenty-six players showed up to play twenty-seven holes in the rain. It was sprinkling during sign ups and stopped only for a few minutes a few times. If I had to play in the rain often, I would get a cart; I got so tired of carrying a stool to keep my bag dry and the umbrella to keep my discs dry and the whole rigamarole of picking them up and setting them down on almost every shot. It didn't seem to bother Duane who shot an eleven down and continued to have a nice disc golf weekend. (second place finish at the Disaster, I think a seven down) An lucrative double dip for D. Josh shot a soggy seven for 2nd gross cash and the Mad Scientist Phil played well for four down third place and I sloshed around well enough to for last cash in gross.
Second place net money was split by Mouse and first time money winner Chuck. Phil plucked last cash from the net pot. The CTP fundraiser was rained out. The ace pot has topped the three c mark.

With the ace pot over 3 cs, ten threesomes filled the top nine holes with one group starting on new hole 12 (old nine). Usually threesomes play the round of 27 holes in less than three hours, but Sunday was unusually nice. With the sun shining brightly, a slight breeze, the tee-shirt weather brought out more than disc golfers. After days of rainy weather half of Modesto's families decided to walk, bike and jog through the park on Sunday morning. Add a few recreational golfers into the mix and the tall disc-hiding weeds and you get a four hour round! There were three group back ups on holes, several times - it felt like I was in a tournament in Berkley!
Josh was totally stoked that Bretto tied him for first in gross shooting a ten down. Duane and Jeremy knotted up at seven down and split third and fourth place gross cash. Steve Leroi shot a fine round of five down to tie me and we split the fin for fifth in gross. Net money was also paying five spots and five golfers tied at five down taking three fins apiece. Jeremy, Jen, Kenny N., Bretto and Stevel.
Following the round, the CTP fundraiser was won by Josh on his third attempt. The multiple attempts by golfers raised over thirty smackers.

There was a late start Sunday because some golfer couldn't get to the park on time. Even though it was delayed by twenty minutes, nineteen golfers played relatively quickly across the twenty-seven holes. Zach brought his game and shot a respectable twelve under which lapped the second place finishers a few times. Hooker doubled dipped when he tied for second gross with a four down and walked away with first in net money. Zach and Kenny Newbie split second and third place net. The other three golfers to tie for second place gross were Bretto, Kenny N. and yours truly.
Because we had a long wait for the only foursome to finish, the club raked in close to forty clams on a short CTP set up. Kenny N and John N battled back and forth, but Kenny N won the pick of the discs.

Kenny Newbie and I tied for the rest of the gross money at three down. Kenny also took first net money with the stalwart Dave Bear cashing for second net. James G was my partner on the second deal and he and I played well enough to take first place, 11 down. It was his second first place finish in a row at Friday doubles and mine as well. So the picnic/tag round/ 10th anniversary was quite interesting to say the least. I've always enjoyed playing disc golf no matter how bad I play. The only times that I have not enjoyed the game is when I'm stuck in a group with someone who is upset and decides that he must upset everyone else. This has happened only a few times but when it does, it's like someone stole my round....
There was controversy about the new tags that upset a few players, but all but one got over it. There was a typo on tags 21 thru 49 that upset a few players, but they all got over it.
It was windy and the scores were high because of the wind, except Josh S. who posted the only under par score of nine down. There were two aces by Bobo and D-Balls. There were thirty-seven players and one miserable whiner.
On the bright side of the day, Lar-dawg showed up after the round started and took over BBQ duty. He did a great job cooking up burgers, steaks and chicken. Davery brought tater-salad and others brought cookies and other kinds of munchies. Everyone and I had a good time except for one.

No wind for the first time in weeks made for ideal scoring conditions and Cory V. and Lump took advantage. Both shot -14 and Kenny Lee came in third with -11. Top net money also went to Cory and Lump.
As part of an experiment in human behavior and to test the waters for future rounds, I offered a chance, for those who wanted to, to play for tags communally. About 2/3 of the players put their tags on the line. The other 1/3 didn't, fearing they would come out of the round with a higher number. Half of those who didn't join in the communal tag round ended up throwing their tags in the pot because their lousy rounds shamed them into it. I'm not sure if I will do it again. It is amusing to me to see people place such value on a piece of plastic that you can't throw.

Two aces, but the pot is still there! Frankie hit Hole 8 in the front and won the CTP stool bag that KL generously donated. Pat hit old Hole 9 and got a big whoopdeefawkingdoo. It just doesn't pay to not get in the pool. Twenty-five players tried out a new nine hole layout on the east side of El Vista bridge along with the original eighteen holes. Of the new nine, my favorites were the two I birdied. The painted creek with painted peninsula hole at the end of the loop was fun because of the interesting OB which I avoided by landing pin high on the peninsula. The next hole, which threw out of the woods, I parked, but it would be better to be able to see the basket in plain view from the tee.
For that matter I believe all the baskets should be visible from the tee. The first par four nine hundred somethin' hole had the basket framed and visible from the tee which gives one the sense of where to throw in the fairway on the drive. The second par four which measured over a thousand feet was invisible from the tee. Even though there were ribbons and and arrows on the ground for aiming, there is a lack of sense to which way side of the fairway one should play. Should I favor it right, left or up the middle?
I played with Corbetts and after seeing Danny unleash a soaring five hundred foot drive, Mike said "I never understood why guys like these big holes, but I kinda get it now." Overall I think the layout works and it will be nice to have nine holes that offer a golfer a chance to air out some big throws and test his accuracy too!
Cory V. once again took home money, this time doubling up on first in both. Bretto and Pat tied one stroke behind him with minus sevens. Range spelled backwards shot well and took last cash in gross at six down and second in net. Pat grubbed up third in net.

Hole 1: I like it, but the tee area is pretty cramped.
2: We all threw to the wrong basket straight out from tee pad instead of to the right. signage!
3: 500+ footer: too easy to crash the tree for easy putt. Needs a drop zone when players fly-by and go in river without any knowledge of where disc landed.
4: Nice long 950+ footer. That's a par 5. I like the lower ledge where a basket could be placed, but not seen.
5: Pretty easy. No need for OB. Needs to be a touch longer.
6: No visual from tee pad. Ceiling too low, I thought
7 1000+, that's a par 5
8 600+ that's a par 4
9 Sweet...wouldn't change a thing
You guys did a good job with the ribbons on the trees to help with direction. You're just not going to see those ~1000 footers from the tee with all of the trees in the way.
I think that putting different colored ribbons on some of the trees on the long holes would help players find their discs easier. Those oaks all look alike when you get walking down the fairway.
My 2 cents.

Last Sunday's singles saw a whole slew of young punks vying for the title of W.O.W.(winner of weekly). Some old leather-winged fossil broke all of their hearts with an ever so tender -10 to take home the home fries. D-Ballz took 2nd with a -7 while running the show for Timmay, and that's basically all that I can remember.
Thank you for the free beer from the ace the week before from half of the guys that hit it.

Geez-Louise! After not being on the computer for awhile, it took effing forever for all the security updates and whatevers to let me use my seven year old computer. Well in case you weren't there on Sunday, eighteen golfers signed up out of twenty-three. D-balls, Arno, Kramer and Chris walked off for a friendly game before we teed-off. Frankie didn't have discs or something like that. Josh rolled in, after Gerald posted his eight down, with a nine. Gerald congratulated him with a sobriquet appropriate for father-less child. Egg man cracked into last place money in gross and second place net. Mouse had an exceptional round and took first in net and Lar-dawg left before collecting his net cash for third.

Six threesomes and a foursome teed off in ideal conditions for disc golf. A negligible cool breeze persisted the entire round. I played my round with Lar-dawg, the new "Anchor Boy" of the Fid. He started off en fuego, but soon the weight of the anchor moored him to the same score that earned that golden Danforth the day before. I plodded along missing birdies, but kept the bogeys at bay. Six birdies was good enough for third place cash. D-balls was one better for second and Josh's score went to eleven for first. Kenny Newb shot a fine round and thought he had first net clams to spend, but ended up tied for second with fast-improving Davey Jones. I also played with Ben who took first in net who sank a couple of large putts outside the circle to belay his win. Egnar split last cash in gross with Kenny and split last cash in net with Chuck.

There were twenty-three golfers and a picnic for Rick, the park maintenance guy, after the round. I don't how the picnic or the round turned out, because I had to leave to attend a family affair. As soon as I get the low down, I'll know.

We had six threesomes, but then one more showed up. Gerald "Lump" Lumpkin and Kenny "Dactyl" Lee, two world class players, came to play. Lump, am master 5th place finisher this year at the Amateur Worlds, bagged twelve birdies and two bogeys to take second place cash. Kenny, who recently returned from Pro Worlds tied for 7th, generously donated a Innova tee-shirt for a CTP, put ten birdies in his bag and released one with a bogey for third place cash. Soon-to-be-cashing-at-2011 Pro Worlds Josh kept all eleven birdies he bagged for first place moolah. Kramer, local JekyllandHyde player, came in with a red two and split first and second net dough with the "Lump." Last place handi-cash went to Josh.

Almost a chill in the morning. Davery took it Sunday with a ten down, followed by Duane with a seven down for second. Lar-Dawg put up a six down for first in net winnings and tied K.L. for last of the gross cabbage. Chris W., Davery and Doug the Pornalator tied for the remaining clams left in the net.

After weeks of sending out threes and fours, we had twenty-four sign-ups and I was able to send out threesomes. Trios make for quicker rounds and that means I get to eat my lunch sooner by thirty to forty minutes. Josh ate everyone's lunch shooting a 14 down wishing he could break that 14 barrier. Bretto took second with a ten down and I can't remember who took third, but I remember D-balls, Lump and Johnni Newbi tied for fourth place money back. Lump left, so Johnni and D went ctp for all the marbles.
In the net column Bruce C. and Johnni took first cash.

Saturday's work crew did a great job for the short time being out there. Hopefully we can get a few more bodies out there for the next time. It still needs weeding on # 1's fairway.
Sunday's round drew seventeen frolfers. Not a bad turnout for the first Sunday of the NFL. So glad I played some disc golf instead of watching beer commercials, tire commercials, car commercials, investment bank commercials, life insurance commercials, car insurance commercials, airline commercials and TV show commercials punctuating the actual twenty minutes of Foolsball, I mean Faderball, I mean Raider football action. D-balls took first with an eight down, nine birds and one bogey. GeoF took second with a minus seven and Josh, who is staying in town a little longer, sucked up last cash with a four.

Thirty-five showed up at Tuolumne Regional Park to play doubles on twelve temp baskets Saturday morning at eleven. It was like old times and great to see the newer golfers down there playing. I couldn't stay after the round due to other obligations, but I would have liked to have played one more round.
Sunday's round had an even twenty players sign up. Five foursomes started at 9:10am and four finished around 12:20pm and one foursome finished at 1:20pm. Not sure why it would take an hour longer for one group! Gerald waited over an hour to get paid for first place gross at -8. James G played well for second with -5 and Josh scraped up last with -4.

A light steady rain fell during sign-ups and lasted for a couple holes. Thunder in the distance could be heard to the east. All five foursomes finished around the same time. Stevel was the big winner with a -12 and a dip into first place net cash. Josh was a couple strokes back for second gross money. Cory V., Davery and yours truly tied for third place cabbage which we chopped up. Cory M. and yours truly made coleslaw fixin's with the rest of the net.
It looks like someone better hit the ace soon in Stockton so we can get more players on Saturday doubles to play the other side of El Vista bridge to refine the layout of holes that will be played at the Fall Classic.

Looked like rain all day but never did. Forty-eight racers braved the threatening conditions to huck the new Discraft approach disc that acts like an over-stable roc. With holes set up a hundred feet and shorter the Ace Racers competed in sometimes blustery conditions. Five racers hit aces, but only two also scored metal hits. Brent Bear and Doug Brodale played off on a CTP with Brent taking the win. Tyler Cornwell, Kevin Crowell and Jason Kramer vied for third place with lone aces on their scorecards, but Tyler came out on top with his CTP throw, just a couple of feet closer than Kramer's throw. Josh Sap took over BBQ duties and grilled up sixty burgers for the players and crew. Koski donated his disc dyeing skills for a silent auction of donated discs with one bid topping our at thirty-eight clams. Once again the Ace Race proves to be a crowd-pleasing event that brings out all types of disc golfers. I do have a few package left; so tell your friends to contact me if they would like to have a hat, a sticker, a mini, a key chain and a couple fine approach discs.

When I click on "DISCUSSION", it seems like a misnomer for our club page to be under that heading. Maybe I should have to click on "DISCREGARD", because I don't know if anybody is even reading this, except for maybe Pteradactyl.
So if I don't get any feed back for these little information segments that I write almost every week, I think I'll just stop doing them, 'cause I already know what happened at the weekly.
Saturday doubles had eighteen players come out for the first playing of the tournament layout on the nine holes east of El Vista bridge. There was a nice wind blowing and it kept the drizzle floating the few times it mizzled on us. Davery and Lump tied with Josh and Bretto for all the money in the pot at 15 down for 27 holes.
Sunday singles got a little scary with spooky mandos and creepy tee pads. Six threesomes played freaked out golf. Davery was the least frightened with a 9 down beating El Geraldo by one, who was nervous most of the round because it was Halloween and he's afraid of clowns and I think he was playing with a couple. Josh unfortunately became possessed at the end of his round and the demon made him shoot a seven down. Luckily a free beer is all it took for the exorcism and he collected last cash.

Twenty-five or twenty-nine, I'm not really sure because I wasn't running the thing. I do know that there was a odd man in a fivesome. John N. had ambitious plans for the golfers on Saturday: two rounds of eighteen with a BBQ break in between. Some golfers who came to play didn't know how extreme the round was going to be and wanted their money back because they hadn't planned on an all day affair. After some discussion John amended the plan to twenty-seven holes and everybody played and the BBQ was after the round.
The course was the original eighteen holes and the new nine hole tournament layout. Once again Josh and Bretto paired up and looked like the runaway favorites for first, but Steve L. and James G., aka Goo Goo?, tied at eighteen down. I paired with Corey M and we took third with a fourteen down. Thanks to Davery and Dave B. who set up and took down the temp baskets.
There won't be a Saturday doubles round for a couple of weeks; next Sat. will be a work day and the Sat. after that is Fall Classic.

The rain started hours before the round started. I thought that the inclement weather would reduce the field for the singles round and I was wrong. Twenty-two towel-carrying golfers signed up. Ray Birch came to play the new set up on the other side of the bridge, but wasn't too disappointed when he found out that that was not going to happen on Sunday's soggy singles round. Because of the weather and the Raider game I didn't ask Davery to put out those baskets.
It was good practice to play in wet conditions fine-tuning the rigamarol of carrying a bumbershoot, a stool and bag o' discs all while trying to keep your shiz dry. Then there's the throwing discs through the rain part. Rain tends to knock the disc down a little.
A half dozen out-of-towners showed up to play with us and kicked the ace pot up near the double century mark. We played the usual twenty-seven holes from the pads. Davery double dipped and took top honors in both net and gross with a twelve down, thirteen birds one bogey. Josh Sap. took second with a five down and I took third with four down. Ray B. snatched last cash shooting two better than even. GeoF and Elec tied for second in net and I picked off last net cash from four players tied at even.

Perfect weather for the 26 golfers who paid and played. It was also nice for those who spun through the holes for practice. Bretto killed with 14 down, while Gerald merely maimed with an 11 down. Stevel and James G tied with minus ten. Ray B once again left with a dollar or two in his pocket. Hooker took third in net with a -4, Bretto dipped up second in net and James G grabbed first net clams.

Friday night I had a full carload to the Fid. Saturday morning I had two spots open. It was raining while I loaded my gear into the car and the satellite picture showed no promise of better weather. Corey and I arrived during small respite from the rain and by the time I paid Ray, it was coming down again. From my seat in Corbett's van I could see dark clouds over the lake coming at us. White caps on the lake kept the lake from looking as solid gray as the sky.
Ray called "bring it in" during a lull in the rain, dealt cards and by the time Kenny Lee, Kramer, John Newton and I made it two our second hole, hole four on the ridge, it was raining again.
The wind was relentless and all our putting suffered from it. Wet cold hands tossing wet cold putters in wet cold wind. By the time we made it to the big dam hole the storm was at its peak. We watched the group in front us down the hill struggle to get their upshots near the rocky point.
The wind decided Kenny's umbrella needed reshaping and wrestled it around till it sprung into a giant tulip. But the wind was not done tormenting Kenny, on his second shot from just above the oaks on the right, he threw a driver that momentarily headed to the basket. The wind diverted it almost ninety degrees turning it over and sending it some hundred feet out into the lake. Kenny made a long lonely walk to the water's edge and then had to throw back up from the shore into the teeth of the wind. A solid six.
Umbrellas were pretty much useless after that hole, since the sideways rain found any dry areas left on our persons. The three extra holes now became a hindrance to finishing and getting out of the rain. Kramer cashed with a plus 3, Kenny shot a plus 5, I shot a plus 7 and John a plus 12. I have never played in such stormy conditions and will remember this round, especially the 6 down Danny shot to win the anchor. Next best score, a plus 2 by Krash.
Sunday's round was nippy at the start with a slight breeze that strengthened in a wind by the end of round. Bretto doubled dipped first. Cory V. double dipped second. Josh took third gross and GeoF took third net.

CVS tournament hangovers from Taft kept the total of players down to 15, which was OK with me, because it meant a quick round and home in time to watch the RAIDERS whoop up on the Bolts at the Quamm. Davery beat Duane and James G. by a stroke to take first in gross with a 6 down. James G. took first in net while Davery took second. Three players split third in net.

So I get in my truck after the round to do the scores and listen to the Raida's game. I hear the score and they're winning. In the next five minutes they're losing; couldn't listen to it anymore while doing the scores. Gerald was smiling with a 12 down and Bretto was one behind for second place. Davery took third with a 7 down and because there were 22 players Josh got cash back with a six down. There was a three way tie for net money so Gerald, Bretto and James G., whose handicap is not indicative of his play lately, took most of the net dough. Corey M. got cash back with his net score.
There will be an Xmas special this Sunday at Hogan as the Chainrattlers and MADGs join forces for a post Xmas Open round for fun and prizes.

The turn out for Sunday singles is rather weak after a CVS tourney and then if you add rain it gets even weaker. Well, the lure of easy money is all it took to get a dozen MAD golfers out to the Fid. There is a sailing expression, "the sheep are in the field". It means there is enough wind to create white caps which look somewhat like sheep on the water.
Sunday "the sheep in the field" were huge. I took the Modesto ace pot to Hogan and collected a dollar from 13 of the 14 golfers who showed up to be brutalized by the elements. Ray did well to shoot plus 7 and win the anchor. I didn't think conditions could get more severe than at the last Hogan monthly, but apparently they could. It rained harder and blew harder only the temperature was the same as last time.
The wind was howling when we played the big dam hole. All the drives in my group went left with the wind. I aimed as far to the left as I could and threw a severe hyzer that immediately flipped flat and turned over and ended up far right past the oaks by the road. My next shot was into the teeth of the wind with the hill rising on my left. So I grab my Firebird, aim left slightly up the hill, stand the disc up in another severe hyzer and think there's no way this baby's gonna flip. Wrong! It went a hundred feet before it turned into a roller and then it didn't roll very far after that. I have never thrown in a wind that so totally dominated the aerodynamics of a disc.
After seven throws to get below the parking lot and some seventy feet away, I threw my Buzzz. Slightly in the lee of the parking lot bluff the disc responded as it should and rose up to the basket, but the line was slightly to the right and I watched my disc stop in mid air and hover, spinning right by the basket and then the spin slowed and .....
Four more throws later, I holed out. I doubt I will ever play in a wind like that again.

Four foursomes came to play Sunday. It was a beautiful morning for golf even though the fairways were a little soggy. Josh S. took first in gross with a dozen down, followed by Bretto and Davery with minus nine. Bruce C. shot an even, an excellent round for him, and took first in net. Josh kept collecting cash in net, taking second and Davery took last net cash. This was the last weekly of the year. Next year's weekly will have a few hundred reasons to play.
