How many are officials ?

I'm going to take my test soon.
Can we do away with the segregation of those who used the club renewal discount from those who didn't? Alphabetical makes the most sense to me, or possibly by PDGA number.
okcacehole
Feb 13 2007, 01:14 PM
You can list them anyway you choose but for out final count at the end of the year on new club renewals the PDGA will only count the paid memberships through the club for the contest

Haven't looked that up yet, but I did get my new officials card replacement. They are much better than the old laminate cards and look good attached to the bag

I'm sure that's fine for the contest, I just don't think it should affect the official Roster. I know it's a minor thing, but it seems unnecessary. Those of us who weren't able to renew with the club for one reason or another are just as much a part of the Roster as everyone else :)
Anyway, I'll send an email to the PDGA and see if we can get those people counted towards the overall renewal total. It might not be possible, but it's worth asking.

I think it should be listed as to who sent in their money first to our official leader. I think that would give me #004. Wow - I'm better than James Bond. :D

I finally found the post you mis-posted :)
for the record, for whomever may be interested, this is the official stance from the PDGA - PDGA affiliate clubs are just that. Separate clubs that are affiliated with the PDGA. The roster, dues, officership, and any participation requirements are the responsibility of the club and only the club. Membership in these affiliate clubs is not limited in any way by the PDGA and there is no direct correlation between affiliate club membership and PDGA membership. The only connection between the PDGA and its affiliate club is one of cross-promotion. The affiliate club is entitled to offer its members a discounted rate on PDGA membership and will receive membership incentives related to this promotion like the yearly PDGA membership drive competition. Affiliate clubs also receive their own forum on the PDGA.com DISCussion website. In return for these benefits, affiliate clubs are expected to promote the sport of Disc Golf and support local PDGA-sanctioned events through volunteerism, sponsorship, and/or participation.
The concept that I think some have missed is that the PDGA has no control over our roster or any other inner workings of the club. They need a copy of the roster so that they know who should be getting the associated benefits... but our club is not a part of the PDGA nor is it governed in any way by the PDGA. They give us a discount on PDGA memberships in return for helping them gain new members (in various ways). There's no reason to differentiate between those who used the discount and those who didn't. It implies that there is a different status for those people within the club or within the PDGA which simply isn't true. I may talk a lot of smack about the subject, but in this I am being serious... it's simply wrong to categorize people in this way. It may not be a big deal to most people, and it's not really to me... but the point is that it's easy to change and if it bothers anyone even in the slightest, there's absolutely no reason to leave it the way it is. It doesn't make anything easier on Cliff or anyone else at the PDGA, it only puts an unnecessary classification on our members. I think if we want to be a real club and have some semblance of real organization, we can't just let little things like this go unattended.

What we really need now is someone that hasn't renewed for 2007 to renew under the club discount and get added to the list above BBD. :D
okcacehole
Apr 25 2007, 02:41 PM
The only reason I kept them split up is for the end of the year competition on most renewals. That WILL be counted for people that renewed through the club only.

Apr 25 2007, 03:50 PM
That doesn't sound right.
Aren't clubs encouraged to have membership drives that include current members as well as new members. It must be assumed that some portion of a club's new members would be existing PDGA members.
baldguy
Apr 25 2007, 03:53 PM
I don't see why that list can't be kept separately from the roster. I just think if we're going to have a thread that is the public representation of our roster, it shouldn't discriminate.
okcacehole
Apr 25 2007, 05:54 PM
blah..blah.blah..it doesn't discriminate..there is a space between 2 groups of names..so I can keep track..redo it all together as you wish and print out copies for your fridge :D:p

I should have clarified that post Gary - these are the 3 competitions..I don't know if we can win the last one not being a club the previous year, but we went from ZERO to 20+
A) Most PDGA bundled members
B) Most new PDGA members in the bundles
C) Most improved PDGA bundled memberships

yeah gary, that's part of the cross-promotion. We promote the PDGA and they give us some benefits. win-win all the way.
this issue came up originally when adam was trying to tell us that we couldn't be a part of the club because we didn't use the club discount. I contended that we were already part of the club (hell... I was one of the people who started this thing) and membership in the club had nothing to do with PDGA renewal, we just needed to be on the roster. We finally figured that part out, but those of us who weren't able to use the discount got put in a separate list. That doesn't make any sense... I mean, why organize the list using some other arbitrary piece of information? We could have a list of those who have donated sponsor money to tournaments, or those who have participated in work days, or those who have put time in to promote the sport in some way... that's what a disc golf club is for, right?

Apr 26 2007, 02:02 PM

because they aren't in our club ;).
Tell ya what, once I have some time to finish building our club website, I'll build a roster application that will include a flag that indicates whether or not their membership counts towards our recruitment total. That way there's no discrimination and the data will be, as ray so eloquently put it, usable and viewable in whatever form we need. sound good?
