Hey everybody sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Brown Deer park is closed until May 15. Mother nature is showing no signs of freezing, ,just rain.I can't let a brand new course get pounded into a mudhole in just 2 months. Dineen is still open ,years of fertilizing the grass there will hopefully keep it strong untill we get a freeze. If not ,that one might get shut down as well. Please pass the word to stay out so there is beautiful grass instead of mud all summer.I`m also looking for commits/suggestions/complaints on both new courses (except long tees and the 2 long walks at Dineen. I don`t know alot of user names on line ,so feel free to speak your mind. Also as president of the G.L.D.G.C. I would like to see the end of any type of complaining about other people on this link. Life is to short, disc golf is gaining attention, and what would the soldiers across the sea think of pety arguing. We live in the greatest country this world has ever seen, get out and enjoy it!!!!!

Can understand given the weather this crazy winter. I'll inform all I can on it.
President? I thought Rumble was the Grand Pouba of GLDCG. Did I miss something at a prior meeting?
Take care, see you soon. Looks like we'll have to set something up at the Ashford Pines in the near future!

I've played them both and each has it's own challenges. Dineen is a bit vanilla, but the course plays tough in the wind. In the summer it will be a scenic park. Big arms will score well on calm days. Holes 9, 12, and 17 are excellent. Good spacing around fairways and facilities. The dual pin positions make for a good variety. Perhaps more OB or some type of mandos for tournament play would add more challenge.
Brown Deer is a challenging and aesthetically(sp) pleasing course. As is Dineen, the course if fairly balanced as far as lefty, righty. Some of the trimmed brush could be removed, but probably will break down as traffic picks up. it will be interesting to see where the lines end up after the trees get leaves and the course gets more broken in.
Appreciate the effort on both courses and kudos on shutting down Brown Deer to prevent ground damage.
just my 2 cents-haven't played a lot of rounds on either one of them, but this was my initial observations.

Mark -
Definately understandable, I knew it would get pulled by spring sometime and some of the course was getting a little too trampled.
The only thing I would work on right now and would volunteer to go out and help would be the around the trees in the fairways to remove all the very small trees surrounding them all. For most of the holes like hole #1 this really won't change the difficulty of the shot but will still reward a good shot. Not sure if I worded that all right but just an idea :)
I love brown deer park, there is nothing better in the area

It was inevitable, now what am i going to do after work. This is the worst news i've heard in a while. :( terry and mark...are you both still planning on putting in 18 on a ball golf course? I remember terry making some kind of announcement that this was a possibility. I may never get to play brown deer again. What a great course!

When the course's go back in in May can the baskets be put in all short or all long so we can get course records?
I know you said not to being it up but can #13 at dineen be renumberd as #1?
There is a parking lot right there and it would cut out the longer walk?
Both courses are amazing.
Can't wait to see then in mid summer!!
Just my thought's

Get warmed up for BIG CHILL kidddies!! Brown Deer will be in next year.
You must have missed that meeting Shark has been President for a while, I'm the Chairman of the Board. More of a deligator sort of role. Shark is the idea man behind the scenes. Its all good.
Would love to play the Pines but only if it gets a bit colder, don't want to tear that up also. I've been hitting the fields by my work and home and there just mud pits, I like it better when the ground is harder I'd hate to tweek anything while trying to throw on this soft ground.
See you on the links

Man, the things I miss when I'm not paying attention!
As for playign the Pines, I don't worry too much about it getting torn up as the traffic during the summer is light enough that it has plenty of time to recover. But footing is a bit trecherous in some areas, and the springs in the area by the hole just south of the house (at the bottom of the hill) are going full force and creating a 50 foot bog around the basket. A freeze would do the Pines as well as all other central to southern Wisconsin courses good.
Sleepy, not sure where your coming with the 'walkers' thing, but Mark's message was pretty clear that the course was pulled at his (and thus the club's) discretion so the grass wasn't ripped up. Hate to see a brand new course quickly turned into dirt paths connecting tee to basket.

Well in some areas that a fence was put up it definately didnt help that the next day someone had trampled it down already... But I think pulling courses to help them heal is a great thing

Maybe you didn't notice that I was being sarcastic about the walkers. Also I was not complaining I knew it would happen.

I have updated the course closure listing on WIDiscSports.com (http://www.widiscsports.com/) to include Brown Deer.
If anyone else has additional course closure information they would like me to include on that list just shoot me an e-mail and I'll gladly update it.
Thanks!

Is Dineen going to get pulled too since there is going to be more traffic there? The ground is like a mush out there. My feet were soaked from there and they never got wet at Brown Deer. Also are the pins going to be moved to longer positions anytime soon at Dineen? Just to let everyone know Saukville is looking real nice. Yohann has done a lot to this course and it is looking like a real challenging course.

Sorry Sleepy, I must have missed it. Thanks also for the update on Saukville. A couple of us old guys are thinking about checking it out on one of the February weekends.
I don't know anything concerning the status of Dineen. If I hear something, I'll send it your way.

Am Master J my goal at Dineen was to have a am freindly course that most people can just have fun at.I think big arms most always score well and haveing ob's and mandos only punish lesser skill levels.Every course even Valley View or Volrath ,can have tourneys and you don't see anybody shoot -18.There are very diffferent skill levels in disc golf and that brings out the need for variety in courses. Hopefully most rec players who don't know the rules won't enjoy Brown Deer.Someday I might figure out how to make this look a paragraph.

Mark, technically we can't cut any trees, only buckthorn. There are very few species of trees that can survive on a course.Oaks and mapels are the best, and if any tree gets trimmed in winter ,you don't know what it is.In 94 when Valley View went in the fairways were 6' wide. Now 60% of the trees aregone from kids tearing them down. So I say THE MORE ,THE BETTER. Alot of people say B.D. is harder than Dretzka,I say you need to play the long tees more. Variety RULES.

Ryan I'm am working on the greatest course ever on the ball golf course at Dretzka, Terry has other priorities. You can always vacation here. Try practiceing in a field ,you'd be surprised what it would do for your game, it's boreing but it's mental training.

One arm Steve, yes to the pin ?. The parking lot at Dineen is the parking lot from the old ball golf course. Besides, you can use the walk to clear your head, I know I need it.And it's really not that far is it?The other parking lots are pretty busy in the summer. This reminds me to tell people not to park by #10 and #11 at Brown Deer, that little lot is for boat house renters and it gets used a ton.

The worst thing I see on courses is trees broken by random golfers... Most of the time the trees are there for a reason. Thanks for the response though.
Dretzka from the long tees with longer pin placements is still harder than brown deer in my opinion. I have still yet to play BD in all longs so I am not sure exactly how that will play. Still fun though.
