Word is Jeff is on his way over to the Burgh for some golf at Deer Lakes on the 29th or 30th of DECEMBER. The 1st annual LaGrassa Open. Will post the time when I know more. Come on out for a round of golf at the beautiful Deer Lakes.
Course record right now from the long blue tees is a 64 from me, J Gary and Sid Olcott.
The best back nine score is a 29 from the long tees by me, and a 28 on the front 9 by Sid. That is the best I know of as of now. The record should be about 58 or so I imagine once the good players make it here.

What another great day for golf! Chris one bettered the course record from the blue tees (63) to win the LaGrassa Open. Jerry was one under par 65 and Jeff and J. Gary tied at 67.
We moved some more of the pins on the course...Holes #1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18 are in A positions; #5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 17 are now in B positions, making for some new looks.
We have been moving tee blocks as well to keep the footing good and to zero in in locations for Blue tees rated at 950, White tees at 900 and Red tees at 850. You might note #10 Blue tee moved up onto dam acess road at least temporarily.
How do I post pics on this BB?

J. Gary,
You'll need to upload the photos to a server first. I recommend ImageShack or GlowFoto. Then use the image tag in your post. When formatting your post, click on Image and then paste the URL address of the photo. For example,
<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre> http://www.centxdglove.com/gallery/albums/uploads/MoraineHole15approachsmaller.JPG </pre><hr />
would produce the following:

What a beautiful day. Two great days of gold in a row. a 63 at Moraine and then a 63 at Deer Lakes. Guess they are both about 950 rated tees like we thought. :)

My good friend Jason Haas will likely be coming out from Columbus, Ohio to meet me for a few rounds at Deer Lakes on Saturday June 9th or Sunday June 10th. It would be great if J. Gary Dropcho, Jerry Gotcher, Chris Deitzel, Dan Sauers, et al, would join us if they are available.

D'oh. Unfortunately this is the only weekend that works for Jason Haas and I. And part of the reason I'm coming out is to show Jason the world class Deer Lakes Park course, which he has not yet played and keeps hearing rave reviews about! :cool:Thanks for the heads-up, though.

Maybe you guys can make it out to the Moraine Monthly for one event....either morning singles or afternoon doubles. Then you can spend the rest of the day (or all day Sunday) at Deer Lakes. Just a suggestion....
Either way, we hope to see ya!

Scores? :)
Jerry,
I'd like to thank you and J. Gary for all the calls and e-mail invites to attend the organized tournament competition over the weekend; however the two guys I was playing with both have young children and our schedule just didn't allow it.
We had a blast! Both courses have been maintained by the park service and are looking phenomenal - especially Moraine. Deer Lakes is really coming along sweet and the tee signs will be great when they are installed. This was my first time playing to the C pin on hole#1, the B pin on hole#3, the C pin on hole#9, and the C pin on hole#12, and I loved them all, especially the long pin on hole 1 which makes makes for a difficult pro par 4, and the long pin on hole#9, which requires a tricky approach shot and makes this a true pro par five hole.
As for scores, Dan, Jason, and I didn't play so well from the white tees, but Jason and I started to put it together in the second round from the blue tees.

Finishing the round with a deuce on hole#17 and my first ever 3 on hole#18 from the blue tees allowed me to shoot a personal best round of 63 from the blue tees. I believe this is 3 strokes off J. Gary's unofficial course record of 60. Jason is rated somewhere around 880-890, so that 71 is actually a good round for him.
We found an awesome beer bar / restaurant near Deer Lakes. Sam Morgan's is located about 1/4 mile north of the PA Turnpike exit for Rt. 28. They've got 17 beers on tap, of which 14 are micros, and a spunky blonde bartender who is a beer goddess. We had dinner there on Saturday night and loved it so much we went back there for a late lunch on Sunday. Disc golf at Deer Lakes and beers afterwards at Sam Morgans are going to go hand-in-hand from now on, in the tradition of such great partnerships as: <ul type="square"> Moraine State Park & North Country Brewing in Slippery Rock, PA Codorus State Park & Kclingers in Hanover, PA Cape Henlopen State Park & Dogfish Head in Rehoboth Beach, DE Seneca Creek State Park & Dogfish Head in Gaithersburg, MD Little Lehigh Parkway and J.P. Jerry,
Nope, an airshot and a putt from behind the picnic table. After playing with you guys the last time, you all convinced me it was dumb to throw the roller when I can reach it with an airshot.
I did however use a roller on the approach on 18, which ended up 4' from the pin for my first ever birdie 3 from the blue tees.
I threw rollers on holes #9, 10, & 18 at Deer Lakes, and holes #9, 16, and 17 at Moraine. 16 was a forehand.

Hey guys, once again I'll be out in Da Burgh to see a concert on New Year's Eve. It would be great if J. Gary Dropcho, Jerry Gotcher, Dan Sauers, Josh Charlton, Chris Deitzel, and any other interested golfers would join me for a round from the blue tees at Deer Lakes. I can't promise 70 degrees like we had last year so let's just hope for the best! Sunday Dec. 30th around 1 PM at Deer Lakes. (FYI, the Steelers will be playing @ Baltimore at that time but it should be a meaningless game since the Men of Steel will have the 2nd place AFC seed locked up at that point )

Well the current weather forecast is for rain/snow showers and high of 35 deg F. However, a lot could change over the next 9 days.
Unless the weather forecast does an absolute about-face we will almost certainly play from the white tees. It will be a fun casual round of golf with my fellow Yinzers. Hopefully the Clowns will lose to the Bungles this Sunday so that the Steelers clinch the division; then no one will be tempted to skip out on golf to watch the Steelers/Ravens game next Sunday. :D

With Cleveland's loss, the Steelers clinched the AFC North this week. Additionally, due to flex scheduling the game has been moved from 1 PM to 4:15 PM next Sunday. So hopefully the weather will be decent and yinzers will come out and chuck some plastic with me.

<font size=4> There are no words for Lotus' instrumental tunes </font size>
By Regis Behe
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Thursday, December 27, 2007
There are two types of instrumental music:
• Syrupy, string-heavy versions of "Strangers in the Night" or "Satisfaction" that act as aural sedatives in doctor offices and hotel lobbies. For instance, any song by Kenny G.
• Inspired, nerve-tingling musicianship that causes involuntary movements -- i.e., dancing.
Lotus, a Philadelphia-based band that performs New Year's Eve at Mr. Small's Theatre in Millvale, firmly falls in the second category.
"There's definitely a fine line between it being something that's wallpaper and something that's a song that has something going on," says Jesse Miller, who plays bass for the group. "I think that's always the challenge, writing something that can draw people in. ... We've always focused on having melodies that catch and grooves that pull people in."
Formed in 1999 when the band members were undergrads at Goshen College in Indiana, Lotus is one of the more creative ensembles performing on the jam-band circuit. Drawing inspiration from jazz, funk, rock, house dub and world music, the songs often are elliptical and open-ended. The traditional verse-chorus-bridge structure is absent, meaning the band uses other means to hook listeners.
"If you're saying there has to be some kind of climax or some kernel that the songs kind of evolve around, I think those moments exist," Miller says. "We try to compose songs that are going to work well in a live setting, songs that have some kind of build-up, that have some kind of payoff."
Miller and his brother, Luke (who plays keyboards and guitar), write most of the songs for the band. One of the Millers will come up with an idea, work with it, then take it to his sibling for the finishing touches. And yes, sometimes there are brotherly disagreements.
"I might go pretty far on a song and have him look at it and maybe try a slightly different arrangement, or give suggestions on what's working and what's not working," Jesse Miller says. "And then we'll yell about that -- 'I think you're wrong,' whatever. It definitely can help to have another perspective."
On Lotus' live double CD, "Escaping Sargasso Sea," those varying perspectives provide many highlights. There are moments so inexorably commanding that attempts to use the music as background noise are futile. Take "Sunrain," one of the older songs from Lotus' back catalog. As the song percolates along, guitarist Mike Rempel's guitar mimics the sound of falling raindrops.
It seems to be a moment of divine inspiration, but Miller admits that it's more a matter of happenstance.
"We don't necessarily take visual cues and say we want to make it sound like this looks," he says. "But I think that's the beauty of instrumental music. It can suggest so many different things. People get their own visuals to accompany the songs, but it's not something we set out from the beginning to do."
Also on Monday's bill are Symmetrical KickBoxing, from Morgantown, W.Va., and Allison Park's Bohemian Bottom Orchestra.

Chris Deitzel beat Dave in a playoff on hole#18 after both players hot smokin' scores of 2-under par 64 from the blue tees. Chris is now the two time LaGrassa Open champion!
A bunch of other 'pros' who shall rename nameless shot in the 70s and did not fare as well. :DAll the pros put in $10 each and Chris & Dave split the money.
From the white tees, Alanna Houck took the women's title and won an Elite XS donated by yours truly. Josh C outlasted Dan Sauers to win the am title and was the proud recipient of a Z-Wildcat with a New Belgium Brewing stamp.
Showing up at Deer Lakes with a dozen folks waiting for me, including J. Gary who stopped by to say hi, made me feel like an honorary yinzer and I thank everyone who came out for a beautiful day of disc golf!
