Northshore Invitational March 31, 2007
Park is reserved for the weekend to include April 1st
Tournament is Saturday only.
Should our club take this opportunity to host a kids day April 1st, free discs, instructional seminars, etc.?
Who could commit to April 1st ?
Could club members show the same enthusiasm as they have obtaining sponsors for JBHunt?
What better direction for the club's responsibility to promote disc golf in our area?
Could we do it right?
If we gave discs to kids and provided the avenue, could we do it wrong?
Would you donate some used discs?
Would you donate your time?
Do you know some kids that might want to participate?
Can you think of a better time to start planning an event as described?
Can you imagine a well run, well publicised,Kids day?

Great idea!
I'd be happy to donate time, discs, etc.
Let me know how I can be of assistance.

I'm thinking 1 ish, after church, till------------the kids lose interest.
I'd personally love to see a draw doubles tournament albeit small, each participant drawing a kid, the kids make all shots from say 50-70 feet in.
This, of course, would be after instuctional seminars, clinics, etc.
I can invision this being really big.

Oh. If only we had available to us a young Uof A graduate student with a passion for disc golf who would take this opportunity and make it happen! Of course he would have to have experience of this magnitude with prior clubs, be well organized, focused, commited to the purpose, etc.
If only-------------------------------------------

I've got a few ace race discs left. Those would be pretty good for kids. I will help with whatever I can, but I will have to work for a little while that day (first day of the month and all). I agree with keldog, Willie already does disc golf stuff with kids. He would probably be a wealth of info.

That AlmaWillie is IN!!! :D Matter of fact, I just gave 3 discs to the Farmington 6th grade to auction off at their Semester auction (kids earn virtual money throughout the semester and then get to buy things with it) and will be giving Disc Golf lessons with each disc!
I think I can pump some kids from Farmington over to this.
I am presenting a proposal in Late Jan or early Feb to the Farmington Parks service to put a course in at one of the city parks. I have pretty well been guaranteed a 3-4 hole at the small park, but the 9 hole at the larger park is still in question, due to foot traffic.

Anyway, long story short, I AM all about the kids and promoting disc golf. I would love a chance to jump in on this. Let me know what I can do and I'll try to help all I can.

The "PAY IT FORWARD" 2nd Annual Northshore Invitational is coming March 31st 2007 as a PDGA sanctioned C-Tier event. April 1st will be the voluntary Kids Day begining at 1p.m.
The Plan is to have instructional seminars for 100 kids ages 8-14ish and provide them with discs. The discs we are collecting right now are donations, either new or used. Plans are to purchase 100 light weight Sharks, Cobras,... Fundraising efforts will dictate if the latter comes to fruition. Thanks to those who have volunteered time, instruction, and discs.
All disc golfers attending the March 31st tournament are invited to attend the Kids Day April 1st, but it is a separate event-(meaning not a part of the sanctioned tournament).
Plans for the Tournament include, Pro and AM Rings of Fire-(separate events), Basket Throwoff, CTP's, and 36 holes with a maximum of 90 players.Players packages for the first 50 pre-registrations and free lunch are in the plans as well! This will need effort from all club members at the very least!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your support is greatly appreciated :Dhttp://img70.imageshack.us/img70/330/tree1158864ge0.jpg

Once again, I'll offer all the help and equipment I have, if you want it.
I can't let you have the disc that I have because of the fact that I am still working on getting the Alma Boy's and Girl's Club a disc golf group started and we are planning a Saturday trip out to Northshore with as many Farmington kids that want to show up , as soon as it gets warmer. But I do have approximately 50-75 discs that we can use to teach the kids with. And I will be glad to help out in any other way that I can.
Just let me know what I can do.

Thank you!! That is what I wanted to hear.
It feels so good to be wanted!!! :D
I'll do what I can. Let me know if you need any of my equipment.
I also still have practice baskets (1 of my own, and 4 that a wonderful man known as Keldog let me borrow) if you need any to put out in the open to begin instruction on.

I know you are trying to get disc for all the kids, so I'll look around for sponsors or donators. What are you looking for, midranges to start with, or complete sets for each kid (driver, mid, putter)? I think I can get some money pooled and get a good price on discs, so I'll buy whatever you are looking for. Or do you already have a disc buying connection and just want the money?

I am asking all of this on here instead of by PM b/c I figure there are others reading this with the same questions. I have found the DG community is great at helping if they just know what is wanted.

You might even put a post under general discussion, or equipment explaining what is going on and see if anyone from outside the area would like to contribute. When I started the club at Alma I got 30 +- discs from outside the state just by paying shipping.

Food for thought!!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Now that is what I'm talkin about!
Effort already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Equipment-quite possibly. disc connections-I have ties with an INNOVA promoter and a club of members donating used discs, purchases-probably light weight midrange discs as most club members donating used plastic have drivers, complete sets- you dream big like me, equipment threads-this is just the stating point,(media coverage, National Sponsers, cities participating, all clubs participating, the PDGA participating (EDGE Program)-----THINK BIG!

Are we really gonna use the "pay it forward" thing as the name of the tourney? Or is it just for the kids day thing? Is this a sponsor thing or just refering to the Kevin Spacey movie?

Like I said before I have some meteors left over that I can donate to the kids.

Was the "pay it forward" discussed with anyone, or did you guys just decide that is what you would call it?

Jan 13 2007, 06:13 PM
Sorry Mayo, i guess you weren't there for that one. The TD's thought it would arrouse interest when people look it up on the PDGA schedule. That name was not used because of Kevin Spacey...it was used because it relates to the concept of giving. :D

Did the board already vote to give somebody money to print invites...i didn't even know they had a tourny design. This Kids Day thing...kinda like the Have-a-Go thing they do in New Zealand. What an opportunity to promote the disc golf...and gain respect for the club in the eyes of the community. Thank you Bob.

Save some money.Use a Sharpie.Furdog also has a design idea.He uses the squat method. Then signs em with a Sharpie.Every one is diffrent.Very unique.(You'd probably have to wash em several times before wearing)

Plans are to host up to 100 kids age 8-14 and provide them with instructional clinics and at least one free disc to introduce them to DISC GOLF!

I asked him about it when were in Dallas. He said he thought he would run one here this year, but made it seem like it would be later in the year. It's was a lot of fun last year.

You know I am in on it. I have a whole pile of discs that can be used for this. I talked to Matt Pledger from West Fork at the Ice Bowl and he has been generating some interest with the kids at his school too. We should be able to get a lot of participation at this. I am pumped!! Let me know what all I can do!

I hauled about 20 discs outta the lake today. A lot of them are beginner friendly dx stuff with no names. I will donate all of them if you want them.
