Thats a great thing for the sport!
I used to live down the street from the owners of Funjet and they were some of the nicest people I have met to date, very generous. Lets show some support!

I just wanted to get the word out of a local business supporting Disc golf and the Am Worlds! It just happens to be the place where i work!
It will be hard for any of us, as Milwaukee residents, to use this, but if anyone you know is looking for some travel specials, you can point them in the direction of Funjet.com

Good work, Matt. Thanks.
Even though we won't need to use it, it's good to know local businesses/companies are willing to work with the organizing group to help showcase the city.
I know I mentioned this once before to Terry, but have you guys contacted the Greater Milwaukee Visitor and Convention Bureau? My aunt and sister-in-law work there. I'm not exactly sure how they could help, but if it's matter of offering coupon books, maps, etc. it might be worth it.
Let me know.

Read up from today's Journal Sentinel! It's an awesome article highlighting the fact that Wisconsin is hosting 2 disc golf world championships in 2007.
Props to the club, the PDGA, Milwaukee County, and all individuals that are helping make this happen!

Speaking of Am Worlds and the preparations.
Next Thursday we will be hosting an Am Worlds meeting at one of the host hotels, La Quinta. They are already proving that they will be gracious hosts for the event and I'm excited to use their space.
Anyways - more details will be in an elaborate e-mail sent out tonight but I wanted to at least get it posted on here. If you are interested in attending please shoot me an e-mail (or PM) so I can be sure you are on the e-mail list.
Again, that's THURSDAY, January 18th ~ 6:30 start
Also - the return of Indoor night at the Sports Complex on Monday, January 15th! If we don't get a good turnout on Monday we'll cancel the remaining two nights.

Terry,
Great meeting tonight!!!!
I sense a lot of enthusiasm in the room, and the volunteer spirit is alive and well !! The folks that showed up tonight are "feeling" the excitement, and are ready to "step" up to be involved with a first ever "full" AM World turnout. The record is ours to take !!!!
When looking at "all" the responsibility that goes into this World Event.........all the volunteer's are extremely important ! No one should be sitting on the sidelines for this !! No one !!
This event will be spoken of for YEARS to come, and Wisconsin Disc Golf will only be on the rise in popularity from it ! From the sponsor's to the player's...........we ALL will benefit. I don't believe anyone with an ounce of desire to play Disc Golf would not get involved in this honorable task.
It is up to us than to make Wisconsin proud, raise our image, and the possiblity to bring more Major Events into our State ! As a business man, it's far more expensive to go to other States to play, than doing this right..........and bring those Major's home to Wisconsin !!
Bring it on.................!!!!!!!

Sorry Don I was told not to volunteer in this event, even though I could get a huge deal on hotels, also my girlfriend owns a catering business. So I will be spending my time caddying for our local pros (cough) I mean ams.

Why do you take "no" for an answer???
This has nothing to do with any "one" individual. It's all about the sport, and structure of Disc Golf in the State of Wisconsin in which one must either throw thier efforts in to Distinguish this States stature in the Disc Golf world or they don't !
Who is going to stop you my friend !! I respect you as you know by now.......and sincerely listen to your many years of advice on the course and have greatly benefited from your experience! I would have to say that without such local player's as yourself and other's at Dretzka......I would not have been able to achieve my goals as soon as I had as a Pro Master. I mean this sincerely !!
Sleepy, don't take "no" for an answer, this is bigger than anyone person or group of people, this is about the State of Wisconsin .....and it's demonstrating to the World how to greatly impact this sport............not later............NOW !! Today! Tomorrow is only on the fools calendar. We cannot wait until the "perfect" time....or people, or courses! Live this moment, step up and lead the way for other's to be encouraged by your actions, in spite of all circumstances not to your liking. I know you..........as that person!
Your efforts are greatly appreciated, and an asset yet to be fully realized................but you can't take NO for an answer here!
I won't let you !!!
So, bring it on.....................!

As Mr. Loper has already stated, anyone and everyone is more then welcome to help in the event. Some people have certain issues with others, and that is not my place to step in and take sides, as I do not wish to be "that guy". Sleepy, Brunner, anyone who is willing to help should step up and offer his or her services to help make Am worlds a success! If its getting a catering company, or spotting for one day, or volunteering sweep tees before you go to work everyday, all of these things need to be done and the more help we can get, the better! This event is LARGER then any one person. There were nearly 20 people in that room last night at the meeting, all willing to participate in some capacity or another. We have a list of nearly 50 more people that are willing to help, and trust us in saying that everyone who can, and is willing to help, in some capacity or another, should volunteer. This is nor the time, nor the place, to have a separation of disc golfers, we should all be working as a team, and not working against each other. But once again, this is my opinion, and mine alone. I can only hope that everyone in the Milwaukee/Wisconsin area feels that they can be a part of the event, in whatever capacity they feel they can contribute. Everyone, and I mean everyone, has their own special talents/connections to be a big part of the event, and gathering that uniqueness is what we need now, more then ever!
As a side note, I will be the sponsorship coordinator/sales manager for the event. If you feel that you can get a sponsor, please, feel free to PM me or e-mail me at mattbrock@prodiscgolfer.com so I can track who is getting what for the Worlds. We already have a few good leads from last night, and as many of you already know, I have secured my company Funjet Vacations (http://www.funjet.com) as a large sponsor. I have a sponsorship package already made up, so if you are looking for information on packages, please contact me so we can move forward.
Thanks

Not just yours alone, Brock. I think everyone in the room last night pretty much shares the same thoughts concerning the need to join together and combine our efforts.
If getting involved directly in the tournament is uncomfortable, there are many indirect ways to get involved and help out:
- Join in on the club and course work days as they come up once the weather permits. We have tee pads to pour, signs to place, courses to clean, fairways to refine and so on. A great deal of course work needs to be done to get Am Worlds ready, and the GLDGC, under the direction of Shark, will be taking on the majority of the tasks. Many hands help make this all possible without burning out the few.
- Renew your membership to the GLDGC,and encourage your friends to do the same. The funds are needed to continue the course additions and improvements, and the money in effect comes back to you in the form of more and better course options for you and your buddies
- Continue to play leagues and the fundraiser tournaments. Again, the funds these events raise are needed and come back to you in the end.
- If you hear of someone who is interested or has a good idea, forward them to the people who can help get them involved. You may not feel that you should be, but perhaps someone you are throwing with can and just needs a bit of direction and encouragement.
Well, that's all for now. Everyone should feel that they have an opportunity to contribute to the Am Worlds effort, either through the club, through individual efforts or through the event volunteer staff itself. Even something as simple as taking a garbage bag with you during a casual round and cleaning a fairway is greatly appreciated. Get involved, we need your help!

I agree with you matt. I will help when I can as far as scheduled work days or tee pad installs go etc. Getting close to finally getting out of college (well at least before going to grad school) I will be either finishing up in summer or fall. I already know with the people that are staying at my house that I will not have the time available to help during the actual event but leading up to it I have no problem with helping. Its a shame that small stupid "issues" get in the way of everyone just working together and being kind to each other. Like I said I will do what I can do...

I stayed up through the night so I could get some updates posted for everyone. A large portion of my work consisted of the player confirmation package which will receive a review from the PDGA in the next few days. It will be sent out as soon as the PDGA reviews and approves it.
The 2007 Am Worlds Event Website (http://www.2007amworlds.com) has received some major updates. Probably the most useful are these specific links:
Area Map at Am Worlds (http://www.2007amworlds.com/files/AreaMap.pdf)
Brown Deer Course Map (http://www.2007amworlds.com/files/BrownDeerCourseMap.pdf)
Dineen Course Map (http://www.2007amworlds.com/files/DineenCourseMap.pdf)
Dretzka Original Course Map (http://www.2007amworlds.com/files/DretzkaOriginalCourseMap.pdf)
Dretzka New Course Map (http://www.2007amworlds.com/files/DretzkaNewCourseMap.pdf)
Distances are NOT on these maps because they are being finalized this week by the PDGA Tour Manager, David Gentry. We are still working on getting pictures of each hole and getting those posted as well.
I also updated the Take Flight Today website (http://www.takeflighttoday.com/index.php?cPath=38) which has Am Worlds Merchandise available to purchase. We still need to get photos of the tee shirts and polos that are available to purchase.
The list of pre-registered players (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=5831) currently says 507 but the PDGA has told me already that they have received a bunch more entries since the update last Friday. If you have any thoughts of playing or know anyone else that hopes to play you should have them register immediately. The website is still Disc Golf Signup (http://www.discgolfsignup.com) and the INVITE CODE IS: 07AmOnline.
If you are interested in attending any volunteer Am Worlds meetings please contact me immediately. The next one is scheduled for this Thursday, June 28th at 6:30PM.

WOW,
What a week it's been. David Gentry from the PDGA was here for the past 6 days and we had the chance to review the progress of both the Am Worlds I'm running and also the Highbridge Hills Sports Complex where the Pro Worlds will be just one week later.
Hours and hours of discussions regarding everything from a particular tree branch that should or shouldn't be removed all the way down to just how awesome the player's packs will be. I'm very excited about everything going on and with that being said, I have plenty of work to do in the next 3 weeks. Singles competition is exactly 3 weeks from today and it is going to be awesome!
I simply cannot say enough about Mark Peterson and the entire GLDGC club that has been helping out with all of this. The courses need a few final touches and we're going to get those all addressed.
If you haven't signed up you are in big trouble because this could fill on any given day. There are over 528 people signed up already! We have a waiting list for a few divisions so please get signed up immediately if you are coming.
More to come from me in a few days once I get some of these tasks accomplished.
Thanks!
PS - If you can help out for 1 week, 1 day, or just 1 hour, we could probably use your help so please e-mail me or send me a PM to let me know and we'll get you on the volunteer chart.

I am pretty sure that everyone knows I'm not on here to complain about anything. Our club (led by the Great Mark the Shark) has some pretty amazing people right now. I'd like to again thank the crews that have been working so hard to get these courses done. Pulling a few all-nighters working on facts, files, isn't as sweaty but it's certainly been just as much work on my end.
I think the biggest props need to go out to Shark, Kieffer, Charley, Tim Strait, Will, Batka, Kryan, Mark, Brad, and anyone else that has been consistently out there busting their arse to put in more disc golf courses not just for the Am Worlds - but for the future.
I read somewhere that some work group is stirring up for Sunday (right Kieffer?) and I would like to invite people to join me on Saturday as well. Please contact me if you are able to help out. As others have said, it's funny just how many people have no problem logging hundreds of rounds of golf but can't seem to do anything in the fore front or behind the scenes.
David Gentry (from the PDGA) was here last week and we came up with a 'wish list' of sorts for the Am Worlds prep work. This likely isn't 100% complete nor is it 100% do-able. None the less I wanted to post it for all to see and read because lots of it can be done on your own. Maybe instead of logging another 20, 30, or 40+ rounds between now and Am Worlds you could knock just one or two items off this list?
Notes about Dineen Disc Golf Course:
Hole 2 - OB - Determine a consistent OB fence line
Hole 4 - Clean up around the green
Hole 10 - Clean up underbrush / weeds just left of pin
Hole 14 - Clean up underbrush / weeds to the right of the pin
Hole 17 - Remove limb hanging in front of basket, trash pickup behind basket
**Potentially spotters needed on holes 10 and 12.
Notes about Brown Deer Disc Golf Course:
Hole 1 - Could always use more cleaning up
Hole 2 - Any trash pick up
Directional sign after 2 pointing to 3’s tee
Hole 3 - General clean up throughout entire hole
Hole 5 - Cleaning up around fairway and green
Hole 6 - Tee sign denoting (again) that pin is to the right
Hole 11 - Directional sign pointing to 12 (across the street)
Hole 12 - General clean up throughout the hole
Hole 17 - General clean up throughout the hole
Hole 18 - General clean up throughout the hole
**Potentially spotters needed on holes 3, 5, & 12
Notes about Dretzka New:
Back fill new tee pads
**No spotters needed
Notes about Dretzka Old:
**Potentially spotters needed on holes 6 & 10

No organized work day planned for Sunday, just us guys who normally get together for Sunday morning at 8:00 showing up an hour early to get some work done before we throw. We are also taking garbage bags around with us so we can put a dent in the stray cans, bottles and other trash that is laying around.
IMO, as long as a list is available, we are at the point where small groups or individuals can make a huge difference with just a bit of time and effort. Perhaps a work day is in order for a major project (backfill Dretzka tee pads comes to mind or putting in the 'temp nine' at Dretzka), but the balance is just people taking it upon themselves and knocking out an item on the list.

Oh...
The PDGA would also like all baskets in the Am Worlds tournament positions by this weekend if possible as well. Of course Brown Deer doesn't matter because it is getting pulled in a few days. If I were to work then play I wouldn't mind moving some.
Who has keys, who doesn't, and who can help get those moved? After the PDGA visit they suggested we only move about 5 baskets as compared to where they were for the GMO.

You'll probably will have to call Shark on that. I don't have keys, and I'm not aware of who else might have a set. I'm sure any moves at Dretzka could be done at Tuesday's league at the latest.

I've got a key for the locks at Dineen. Terry - send me a list of where you want the baskets. I plan on being there this weekend helping Mike Ellery install a new bridge between holes 17 and 18. I should be able to set up the tournament layout then.
The list at Dineen should also include some work on the tee pads. This includes filling in about a half dozen forms the parks dept. recently removed, removing excess dirt and gravel and sweeping them off. It shouldn't be difficult nor take much time. I would do it myself, but have no tools to do the job. This would seriously take four people (myself included), two wheelbarrels, shovels and rakes about an hour. Any volunteers? If another person or two stepped up (just six total), we could probably tackle most of the stuff on the list with the exception of cleaning up behind hole 17. The work itself will take less time than the round of golf afterwards. Please post here if you are willing to help.
Thanks,
Mike

We'll be doing lots of little things for a few hours so please feel free to join us. Rakes, loppers, wheel barrows, and shovels are always useful so please bring them for yourself and others to share!

Hey guys,
I am prefabing the bridge tomorrow and am installing it Sunday AM. It will be pretty heavy so it would be great if we had 4 total people to carry it and set it in place. One or two people is all that is nedd to sink it flush with the banks on each side of the creek. The others could do some backfilling or something. I would be glad to help move baskets afterwards. I will not be able to bring to much for backfill tools with all my carpentry tools and that bridge. I want to do it early since it is going to be in the high 90's. I will be there around 8:00. See you there.

Mike - I'll see you at 8:00 on Sunday. I'll bring 1-2 shovels with me. I'll be playing a round of golf afterwards and moving the baskets into the Am Worlds layout as I go. We need two people. Any takers? I can't imagine that the work will take very long.
Wednesday (7/11) - I am heading up what should be the final Am Worlds course prep at Dineen. The work is pretty easy and should take about an hour if we have the manpower and tools. A few people have already committed, but it would be great to see about a dozen there. We'll need a couple of wheelbarrows and shovels, rakes, brooms and anything to clear brush and prune a few branches. There will be no hole digging and concrete involved. Work will officially begin at 5:00. The plan is to wrap things up around 6:00 and play a round. Please call (414.550.4174) or email me (mike@s-curvediscgolf.com) if you'll be coming. I'll get the tools if I know there will be people to use them.

If anybody plans on doing tee work at Brown Deer ,there is some extra gravel behind hole 3 (last years #10 tee is still there) also hole 7 and 8 from last year that were changed still have the gravel laying there, Also on the road right behind tee 10 there is a couple of small piles. Some of the wooded hole tees could have the gravel behind the tee moved to the front of the tee. Thanks everybody. We've come along way since I used to wood chip Dretzka by myself (hopefully those days are over because my back is shot). Shark

Wow -
I can't say enough about the crew today. Thank you to everyone.
We had Mike Batka, Jonny V, Matt Brock, Steve Enk, Pat Hamill, Bill Boppre, and myself out there for about four hours this morning. It was very helpful.
Here is what we accomplished so that you others can prep for stuff that still needs to be done.
- Picked up about 4 bags of trash found on holes 1, 2, and 3.
- Raked all of hole 2 and trimmed lots of little stumps in the fairway.
- Put wood chips on the sides of the tee on 3, 5, 17, and 18.
- Put stone on the front of the tee on 18.
- Trimmed slightly on hole 3
Things that could still be done include:
- Stone in the front and back on a few holes including 7 and 17.
- Wood chips on the sides of a few other holes.
Thanks again to everyone that came out today. Afterwards we played some doubles and it was my 2nd or 3rd round logged on a Milwaukee County Course this year - sweet!
Thanks for the work everyone is doing tomorrow and the rest of this week.

We'll see what we can get done on the tee pads for #7 and #17 tomorrow and what else we can get into. We also will carry garbage bags during our rounds and making a dent on the trash. I plan on getting there a bit earlier than the rest and seeing if I can't knock out some of the ivy on the left side of fairway #1 that I noticed last Thursday.
Nice job, guys!

Looks like the tee pad on 7 and 17 was complete.
I think some more raking on #1,5,12,14,15,16,17 and 18 could be done. Sine the fairways are so tight, it would only take about 10-15 minutes per fairway. I think that is well worth the work. i know we have minimal time, but the work could be done. Otherwise course looks great.
On a side note, Steve Held and Jonny V shot, what i believe, a course record in doubles. They shot a -14. They missed 1,7,9 and 13. Needless to say, it was impressive!

We put gravel on the front and back of #7 and #17, and spread chips around the rest of the tee pads for both. Also sprayed ivy on #1 and next to the tee on #16.
I'm not sure what advantage raking a fairway provides. I would think that time would be better spent working on getting the tee pads backfilled. There are at least 8 pads that could use gravel or dirt fill around the front and back (and even sides for most). But getting material to do this is getting harder (we broke up and hauled gravel from an old tee pad next to 18 and a compressed hard pile near 10's tee pad). Perhaps we need a load of gravel and a good sized work day crew to get it all moved?
uwmdiscgolfer
Jul 08 2007, 05:02 PM
Raking the fairways is a easy task that could be done during a round of golf. I never said that it was a priority, but after our work on #2 yesterday, we all thought it made the hole much easier to walk on and was more presentable. Back filling the tee pads is more important, but like you said, this requires the material and many people. Raking could be done by one person during his round, thats all i was saying. Our thoughts were that this made the stumps visible for players, thus hopefully creating less tripping over them.

I would highly recommed going to Sports Zone in Germantown. Here is a link (http://sportzonegrillandbar.com/) to it. In fact, let me know what night you are planning on going in there and I will talk to the owner.
They are just a little north of the disc golf action and it is a great place that certainly fits what you are looking for.

I posted this earlier, but it bears repeating. There is a worknight tomorrow at Dineen Park. It begins at 5:00, but I'll be there by 4:00 to move baskets into the Am Worlds layout. About 10-12 people have already told me they'll be coming to help. The work shouldn't take more than 60-90 minutes if a few more people show up. Nothing is labor intensive. No digging or cement. Most of the work falls into two categories - cleaning up around the tee pads and picking up litter in several spots. There is also a little course grooming. Several people are bringing shovels, rakes, saws, wheelbarrows, etc. We should have enough, but please bring any of the aforementioned if you can. Better to have too many tools than too few. I'll be picking up trash bags and some gloves for course cleanup too. There will be some sort of doubles round afterwards. Please let me know if you have any questions (414.550.4174). I hope to see a lot of people there.

Certainly no earlier than Monday or Tuesday. The PDGA will be receiving registrations online up until Friday the 13th. Then there will be a few mail in registrations that will probably show up on Monday or Tuesday the following week.
On top of those dates we have people that are calling, e-mailing, and messaging us every other minute asking for a pool switch, a refund, an add, a drop, special consideration for their pet rat, and everything in between.
I won't personally be doing the pool assignment stuff but my best guess is that the PDGA will have it up by Thursday the 19th. Again, that's just a guess.
It could have been up weeks ago if people would have just kept up the pre-reg pace we were on. Selling out a few weeks back would have eliminated all of this and people could already make their plans accordingly.

As part of Funjet Vacations Sponsorship, we have an INNColor Disc available with a beautiful background showing downtown Milwaukee and the world Famous Milwaukee Art Museum by Calatrava! With the purchase of this disc, you will be eligible to win (2) round trip tickets to Cancun, Mexico! Since this is a VERY limited disc, with only about 100 being produced, you have a very good chance of winning yourself (2) round trip air seats to Mexico for as long as you wish. You could go for 3 days, 14 days or anything in between, your choice!
Discs will be available at the Am Worlds Merchandise tables all week, and the Flymart which is slated for Tuesday, July 24th
We have Wraiths and Aviars available in this VERY LIMTED RUN! We have already sold a handful, so get them while you can!
Wouldn’t that be something, by supporting the 2007 Am Worlds, you have the chance to Win a 18 Hole Disc Golf Course (DGA Squal Promo) or Round Trip Airfare to Mexico, by just picking up a few discs!
Please Support the Am Worlds!

We are under ONE WEEK AWAY from the 2007 Am Worlds here in Milwaukee. Are you guys pumped about it? We hope to make this an experience no one will ever forget!
I don't have all day to thank the dozens of people that have contributed so much thus far. Saturday work groups, Sunday work groups, nightly work groups - you all know who you are and we wouldn't be nearly ready if it wasn't for your efforts. Thank you guys so much.
I had a request that came in and it's a great one. However, I'm looking for just a little bit of help with it. It's VERY easy and just about anyone can do it so someone please step up and help us make it happen.
We would like to put the 10 meter circle around each of the 72 baskets used in the event. Everyone that has ever been to an event that had this painted circle has usually commented how it was a helpful and cool little addition to the course/event.
Ideally, we'd like to get the paint to someone in the next few days and they would start to put them down late in the week. Of course we can't get Brown Deer done until Monday but we would love to get the other 54 holes completed by Friday.
Takers? Please contact me immediately if you are interested in helping out. You could do this while playing a round even. Batka says it takes under 2 minutes to do at each basket.
Batka and Sergio have some type of tool/mechanism that might assist you in doing this so we'll follow up with them to see if they can help us out a little too.

I've got 2-3 tools that make marking the circles easy. They are twine that is attached to the pole with a hook and a washer tied the the twine at the 10 meter mark. Works like a charm. After looking at the weather forecast, I suggest waiting until this weekend. I will be out of town Friday and Saturday.

I'm not going to put the rubber mats out yet because they will kill the grass. The tees will be marked with flags and paint. Brown Deer will open around 11:00 am on Monday. There is no way of knowing for sure. If there is severe whether and play is suspended on Sunday at the US Bank Championship, the tournament will be finished on Monday. The baskets would not be in until a few hours after play ends. Worst case is until like 5:00 in the afternoon. Shark

[You are talking July 22 right?] If I had something planned near Point before I head down to Milwaukee, I'd gladly do it, but unfortunately there are no plans.
One thing that may work if you can wait for the mats until late Sunday night - if someone in Point could get them to me in Greenbay by this weekend, I could then load them in my mom's van for when she heads back to Milwaukee on Sunday night. Someone would have to stop by her place and unload them for her though because there's no way she could do it, and I don't want to put too much burden on her.
Or, if you don't need them until the 29th, I'll be down again on Friday the 27th and could bring a trailer.

Done.
We are assembling player's pack things tonight. That will be a good time. Also, I confirmed with Mil County yesterday - they are more than fine with us painting the circles around each basket. In fact, they said they might even have some left over paint from the US Bank event.

So, who from the Fox Valley won the baskets?!?!? That's what I heard. Maybe it's Vils (who's also tied for 4th place after Rd 2!!!!!!!!!).
Here comes Brown Deer today, now we'll see who's well rounded. Keep it up Jeremy!!!

What's up with the juniors?! Tonight I see a couple 29s and a 37 under par! Are they only playing Dineen and new Dretzka? Have they played BD? Is their "par" different? We all know that a 54 at Dretzka as "par" is WAY better than throwing 54 "par" at Dineen. But those scores blew me away! You got some excellent junior players down there right now!

The Juniors have not played Brown Deer yet. They will do so tomorrow.
Basically the way it breaks down is as follows:
Advanced: 2 at Brown Deer and Dretzka New
1 at Dretzka Classic and Dineen
All Others: 1 at Brown Deer and Dretzka New
2 at Dretzka Classic and Dineen
Thanks,
Steve (Time for sleep for my 2 tomorrow)

I also have about 300 photos from the AM Worlds if anyone wants to send me their e-mail address. I tried to get as many locals as I could. Also, I have a disc of Holly Smarts and another of the Enks in my possession from the lost and found. I will give them to you when I see you.

you can post them on a site mike, like Josh's, or you can use a site like i did. Its called Shutterfly, and its real easy to use. The only thing i found odd is when they were loaded, they went in randomly. I honastly did not try to fix it, but it worked!
I would enjoy checking them out!
