Pizza - did you get any good pics of the course? Any results?

Pizza God
Dec 10 2006, 01:45 PM
They did not post results on the ship that I know of.

I only shot even. The winners of the Pro and Masters both shot 8 down. The course was tough in that if you went off the fairway, you were in deep dodo.

We were using DGA travel baskets which do not catch my type of putt very well. I had one spit back at me, and two go all the way though. (one was from 4ft)
In an effort to putt softer, I missed another 3 or 4 putts I should have made within 30ft.

It was also hard to tee off in the deep sand on a few of the holes. By the time I started to play the course correctly, we found out the 2nd round had been canceled.

I did play most of the holes a second time (getting lots of birdies and loosing one discs in the rough)

I just need to upload some pics in my server and can post them.

Great shots Bryan..thanks for posting those up...

guess scores don't really matter when you are playing on an island in the sand and sun

If you want to renew your PDGA membership through the OMB vs YGB Club Program let me know and I will email you a form.

You can still join ace club, birdie club, ect and still get your $5.00 discount and officials test if you are not one already.

Looks like Duke is next for enjoying some sunny weather.

Way to go Jack Tabor - bringing home another win for the OMB's!!!!

baldguy
Dec 10 2006, 09:10 PM
yeah, I had a so-so 3rd round... and one hole in round 4 took me right out of it. I guess triple-circle-8s tend to do that. I still managed to cash though, and even though it was a shoddy performance... that was my last sanctioned MA2 event. I play 30-40 points (rating-wise) better when I play advanced.

see y'all in MA1 next year... nothing but casual for me (I think) the rest of this year. we gonna plan next weekend?

Had a great time today at BearCreek with Krell, Parker and Charles Cox

I shot a bogey free, -3 from the Pro Pads and had a drop-in birdie on #6..don't think I have done that before.

I think we may play an early round tomorrow before Watts becomes a grandpa at 12:30.

Still on for CH at 10:00 also on Saturday

okcacehole
Dec 13 2006, 05:32 PM
2 more wins today at Porter

Mobile, AL

Play Chickasaw Community Park, it was better than Chickasabouge County Park. However it was a little confusing to find a few of the holes. There are White T markers at all the holes marking the tee boxes. The course was just redone (in the last month) and was pretty good.

Chickasabouge was a short wooded course with only 2 open holes. (the two longest holes are WIDE open in a field). If you have time, play it, but the other course was more fun to me.

baldguy
Dec 18 2006, 01:02 PM
thx for the info, I'll try to play as many good courses as I can while we're gone... time with the in-laws isn't as appealing as time on the course ;)

I've heard good things about the University of Southern Alabama course. I contacted a local pro in Mobile who has graciously offered to show us around when we're there. Since Mobile only about 45 mins from our hotel in Pensacola... I might get more than a couple rounds in at those courses :)

Congrats to Justin today for hitting his 1st ACE ever..hole #6 at Porter and nothing but bucket..not sure if the chains even touched the disc

Now to convince you to keep the disc:

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l128/okcacehole/PICT0046.jpg

Fill your garage walls or something else, or just store them, but don't lose that disc..you will miss it later on.

Trust me..I know of too many players who wish they have saved at least their first ace...discs can be replaced in the bag..your first ace can't.

Congrats!

One of the Aces I remember was in Dayton Ohio. A 300' hyzer shot on top of a hill with a 15-20 mph right to left cross wind. I started a viper out about 45 degrees off target and the wind carried it into the basket.

The memorable part is that as I was playing the course, there were always a couple of groups visible around me as well as other park users. When I hit the ace, I looked around, and saw no one at all in the park.

Dec 19 2006, 04:31 PM
how very sad... I don't think anyone in our club had a change in rating... none of the tournaments we've played recently were sent in to the PDGA. No points, no rated rounds... what's the purpose of sanctioning again? I'm not blaming the PDGA entirely, but their system could apparently use some improvements if it's this difficult to get them this information. Maybe instead of a club, we should start a sanctioning body... *sigh*.

The water in most places is less than a foot deep. There are one or two spots where it gets well over 6' deep though. If it hasn't rained, the water is pretty clear, but the mud stinks.

actually that course drains pretty well. Even the old problems on Holes 5-6 on the Beaver are much better

The day after we were poured on at the Big Show out there it was in good shape, but the Lake probably does drain the better of the two.

She has more miles on hers than dad has on his and his is at least 2 years older.

I got his old '82 KZ750 in 1992 and it didn't even have 1,000 miles on it. Planted that into the front of a Honda Accord - their fault, but the bike was a loss :(

I have only rode a handfull of times since then

Yeah, 10:00am... we'll be watching the rain to make a final decision, too, I'm sure. Looking at the radar, we still have a couple hours' worth of heavy stuff heading our way tonight.

With all this potentially nasty weather about, I finally figured out how to get both the car and the Harley in the garage. It was entertaining to watch, I'm sure... I may have to video it one day and put it on YouTube. It went something like this: "back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and...(ad infinitum)" :D

Dec 29 2006, 09:51 PM
I live about 5 miles from the lake course and we're still getting some pretty heavy rain... but with all the sand on that course, there won't be much mud. Plus, it's not like the lake is suddenly going to get full and flood the course like it did a few years ago... we still need another few feet of rain before that becomes a possibility.

enjoy the bike, bambam... just be careful. I don't want to lose another friend to a motorcycle accident. I rode for a few years and have had thoughts of getting another... but a good friend of mine died back in Feb on two wheels. Wasn't anyone else involved, he just hit some gravel on a curve that he took every day on the way to work. He was wearing a helmet, but he was thrown from the bike and hit a light pole head first. He never had a chance. Sorry to be morbid... but I miss the guy. Keep it on the side streets and keep it slow... and don't let me catch you riding without a helmet ;)

I'm in for some golf tomorrow if the rain lets up tonight. The lake should be playable as long as it's not storming during the round. I'll plan on 10:00, let me know if you guys decide to sit it out.

sorry, I do not... I really can't stand Access... if I *had* a book like that, it would have long ago been burned in effigy :D. Not to state the obvious, but Barnes-n-Noble usually is a good place for that stuff. Naw, that wasn't morbid, Josh... I appreciate the thought. We (Sally Beauty) lost a co-worker in a motorcycle incident on 380 less than three months ago. Someone bumped him from behind (wasn't paying attention) and it threw him across into oncoming traffic, and he ended up underneath an oncoming car, still in the saddle. After being in a coma for about 6 weeks, with no hope of coming out with any brain function, they took him off life support. It's sad... he was married with 2 or 3 kids, and was well liked by everyone there.

There won't be any crazy stuff going on with this bike. I'll just be driving it to work on nice days, and taking it for the occasional North Texas road trip, mostly on the back roads to see all the sights, yano.

It looks like we may have seen the last of the heavy stuff, at least. Looking at the radar, there is still some stuff south of us, but it's spotty and may or may not even make it this far. I'm planning on being there at 10:00 if it's not raining in the morning.

Jan 01 2007, 10:14 PM
I thought it was 10 discs... 12 in the water, and only retrieved two of them. Is that not right?

Anyway, I can see why no one plays that course much. Too much interaction with pedestrian traffic, and too much water you can't retrieve your discs from.

It was still a better Monday than being at work, though. :D

Jan 01 2007, 10:33 PM
Anyone playing some golf Tuesday? Last day off before I have to go back to work.

baldguy
Jan 01 2007, 10:40 PM
2 lost for Deidre, 2 for Adam, 1 each for myself, Mike, Krell, and BamBam. were there more? I know JJ and I each had one go in and get retrieved. It's very possible that I lost count :).

That course has potential, it just needs to be redesigned. I think it was better a couple of years ago, but I'm sure there was a good reason for the change. Perhaps it would be worthwhile to get with the city of Coppell and (as a PDGA Affiliate club) offer to help make it better. If there's playable land across the creek, it could look alot like the creek holes at ZBoaz. Get it away from that pedestrian path as much as possible... I know I'd be willing to help. Such a nice park with a city that's willing to support a DG course and keep it maintained, it's a shame to see it sit there idle.

okcacehole
Jan 01 2007, 11:23 PM
I did some research on this years ago when I played the course for the first time. Coppell has a lot of other city parks that have enough land and many of them are even undeveloped at this time.

You can find the list of all their parks by going on their homepage and going under the parks department page.

Which course..he has shown me the maps to both of them and they both look nice..I think Paschall looks a little more wooded besides a few of those holes

Gary..is there anything else you could do for hole #18? I don't think most people want to bogey their last hole. 700ft final hole, but all I saw was open field from your picture

Alacrity
Jan 03 2007, 03:46 PM
Are you saying you cannot par a 700' hole? What are you calling as par, 3, 4 or 5? And if you are bogeying a par 5 700' hole, is it nothing but trees and water between the tee and the pin? :p

I know, you mean for the hole to have a Par 3 since we as disc golfers use par 3 as the standard, but that is by convention, not by actual determination of the holes difficulty.

okcacehole
Jan 03 2007, 04:49 PM
I guess my post was based more on the lines that #18 didn't seem to be anything but a huge field with nothing in the way so it just looked like it was lengthened to 700ft. Just driving full 2 times didn't seem like the best idea.

Just wondered if there was something else the land had to offer besides that field.

gnduke
Jan 03 2007, 04:57 PM
There is nothing between the woods in the back and the parking lot (near hole 1) except open field and the overflow canal. There are plans to have the yardage markers on that side of the driving range setup indicate distance off the tee of 18 for some added interest to the hole.

There just wasn't anything interesting to do the hole, and a lot of distance to cover.

The driving range will be marked off in 50' increments from 200' to 600' from either end. If we get a lot of players driving past the 600' marker, it may get marked from 100' to 700'.

Thanks for joining our club this year and helping us get off the ground, and if you haven’t joined already there is still time to get your discounted PDGA membership, free officials test and 10% discount year round at discovering the world.

I appreciate all of you for helping make this possible and so far we have 19 signed up members!!!

All TD's should have our current info even before we get our cards.

Hope to see a HUGE club turnout for Cedar Hill next month

Duke - I just got off the phone with Todd at the PDGA..you paid $10 less than you should have for your renewal (bag tag) and Steve and Jennifer paid $10 too much (family renewal plan)...next time you catch one of them can you even that out

Thanks

FYI - you don't have to renew your PDGA membership with the club to be a member of the club. If (like Deidre and myself) you were forced to renew at an event, you can still be part of the OMB vs YGB club. You just need to be so represented on Adam's list.

??? To get the discounts and such you do have to register under the club program

right, to get the PDGA renewal discount, you do. You can still be part of a PDGA affiliate club, however, as long as you are a current PDGA member and the club represents you as a member.

by the way, as of now it looks like there might be time (before the rain starts) for a morning round... anyone in for the lake? It should be playable, and we might even squeeze two rounds in before we risk getting wet. the forecast in the morning should tell us more...

okcacehole
Jan 12 2007, 03:06 PM
of course..the more the merrier, but I still don't know what you meant by "forced"...you could have signed up with us and had more than 1 month to do so...I was hoping to get all of us as sanctioned officials...

Here comes the rain...going to be nasty tonight...everyone be safe...OKC is already a frozen pond

baldguy
Jan 12 2007, 03:20 PM
by "forced" I mean that we couldn't part with the renewal fee (holidays, etc) until it was too late to get in on the first round you sent in. And since we both played 2 C-tiers last weekend, we either had to renew there or pay the $20 ($5 each X2) temp fees. regardless, the PDGA renewal does not have anything to do with membership in the club, other than the fact that members are entitled to a discount.

I'm not saying it's anyone's fault that we didn't get the discount or anything like that... just saying that renewing with Ray at the PIO doesn't mean we're not part of the club. And we can still get the free officials test as members :)

okcacehole
Jan 12 2007, 03:33 PM
And we can still get the free officials test as members

not sure about that part...you might want to check with the PDGA on that

baldguy
Jan 12 2007, 04:42 PM
do you really think the PDGA would deny us that benefit just because we paid an extra $5 apiece to renew? Something tells me they'll appreciate the extra money :)

okcacehole
Jan 12 2007, 04:47 PM
As I stated you might want to ask them. The discount is part of the affiliate club program and since you did not renew under that I really don't know. Send Lori and email and ask. It can't hurt.

I'd love to join in on this fun, but I'm gonna be having fun of my own tomorrow. The motorcycle rider's education class I signed up for a week ago is a "rain or shine" class, so barring any of the frozen stuff, we'll be at Texas Motor Speedway tomorrow, learning how to ride in this sh1ttee weather. At least we'll be doing it on THEIR bikes and not our own. :D

If you're so inclined, please say a prayer for us all tomorrow. :p

Sure I do! It's that game where you play in teams of two, standing at opposite ends of a long, narrow wooden playing surface, usually covered in a fine silicon grit, much like sand, and you slide little metal pucks towards the other end and try to outscore you opponents by leaving more of your pucks closer to the end of the table than they do.

Duh... don't know how to bowl... whatever!

Affliate club benefits are available to any
Current PDGA members on the Affiliate Club’s roster

.

I'm not sure how they know who's on the roster, but that is what their information page says.

baldguy
Jan 13 2007, 11:11 AM
that's what murphy has to send in. I'm pretty sure he's the de facto club prez. They do it this way so that members can join the club thoughout the year.

Jan 13 2007, 01:19 PM
*sigh*

Again, as I stated, the roster has nothing to do with who renews their membership through the club. The PDGA does not control who is a member of the club, that responsibility lies with the club. It would be silly for the PDGA to attempt to do otherwise. Denying someone membership in an affiliate club based on the fact that they paid the PDGA *more* money is perhaps even more ridiculous. If you need me to send Lorrie an email for you to verify this, then fine.

Re: bowling

baldguy
Jan 13 2007, 01:34 PM
quoted from the email you posted on the old thread about becoming an affiliate club:

Some clubs don’t take advantage of our PDGA Discounted Membership
action. No worries - just let me know if your club will be
participating in the 2007 PDGA Affiliate Club Members Discount Program
and I will forward you the forms you need.

so... if some affiliate clubs don't even do PDGA registration through the club... how do they have a roster?

and from the PDGA Affiliate Club Registration page:

To join please email your club contact info (including address, phone and email address) to the Affiliated Clubs Program on the PDGA Contact page and also email (or snail mail below) us a complete club roster in alphabetical order by last name (PDGA numbers - if applicable- and names only) to the Affiliated Clubs Program on the PDGA Contact page.

it looks like members of an affiliate club don't even need to have PDGA numbers. It also looks like the club contact needs to send (email or snail mail) a club roster to the PDGA, so this is obviously not defined by who is in the list of those who registered with the club.

The only point I'm trying to make here is that I've read the documentation we have available and I understand it. I don't need to email Lorrie for clarification on what seems obvious. If you want clarification for yourself, that's fine... but why not just send the email yourself instead of telling me to do it?

now... we bowling today or what? :D

Jan 13 2007, 01:35 PM
Josh - IDGAF...the whole point is the test is free for those who renew in the club program..other instances they charge for it..I am already an official...so I don't need to bother with this..

BENEFITS

- Current PDGA members on the Affiliate Club’s roster will be able to take the PDGA officials test with no fee.

otherwise everyone would just take the test for free and they wouldn't charge for it..anyone can say they are part of one club or another...

okcacehole
Jan 13 2007, 01:39 PM
read the whole thing..that came from the PDGA and refers to those who keep their members discounts and use them for the "club"..

geesh...if I knew this was going to be such a pain

baldguy
Jan 13 2007, 01:40 PM
actually, the club contact has to put them on a roster in order for the PDGA to consider them part of the club. The only person who can do that for our club is you since you're the contact. When you send in the roster, can you please include those of us who had to renew at the PIO (at least Me, Deidre, and I think Jack). Once that's done, we will be current PDGA members, and on the affiliate club's roster... and we'll qualify for the free test.

I was incorrect:

Adam,

If he is a member of your club and a PDGA member in good standing (regardless of whether he renwed through the club), then he is entitled to the free official's test.

Thanks, Cliff

I still don't see the point though..guess everyone in the PDGA should claim membership in one club or another and then there is no point in even charging for the test

baldguy
Jan 13 2007, 03:15 PM
so, do I get Todd's Aviar? ;) :p

I think you still have to update the official roster to include us. If someone claims to be part of a club, but then isn't on the roster, they won't get the free test. I sent Lorrie that email and copied you, and even though Cliff answered that question, we can still find out what it takes to update the official roster. I'm betting it's just an email list, but we'll see.

So... about that bowling...

I would like to ge my license soon so if something happens like my trip to Alaska, I could have does the Harley tour. Roaming around Alaska on a Buell would have been fun. Same with renting a Harley in Las Vegas (but this cost A LOT more) It has been 16/17 years sence last time I rode a motorcyle. I never did bother getting a license back then.

I bet riding parts of Alaska would just be pure joy, with all the beautiful country up there. Not so sure Vegas would be that much different from crusing Deep Ellum or Lower Greenville, as far as the actual riding experience goes.

Riding in Vegas isn't about cruising the strip. If you get the chance, rent a bike and head out to the Hoover Dam or any of the rural area surrounding vegas. Even some of the suburban stuff like Henderson can make a good ride. I've seen a lot of the territory between visiting Keith while he lived there and just visiting Vegas. I never actually got to rent a bike, but I did rent a convertible (several years ago) and do some of the same pleasure driving.

Of course... I'm sure some people just want to look cool on the strip. But, if you're riding a bike just to look cool, you're riding for the wrong reasons :)

Adam,

I really don't know who else to add to that list except for possibly Ray Murray. Prairie Dog? You wanna be part of our club? :)

Maybe just start a thread and get people to post that they want to be members. If we know them and they play with us sometimes... sign them up. I think there should be some sort of nominal dues for members. something like $10/yr that isn't going to hurt anyone but keeps away the people who don't really want to be a part of the club. We could then put that money into the Carrollton DG Course improvement fund, or something like that. Or maybe use it to sponsor a local tournament (Carrollton Open?). What do you guys think?

18567
Jan 18 2007, 12:56 PM
I don't think it really has to be a specific tournament if you do it, but a tournament fund as our group is not just local Dallas golfers. Our group is really about golfers who like to play golf together, than supporting a specific course. I think we should be sponsoring maybe 4 or 5 tournaments a year and not just Texas ones. Oklahoma is a definite with our ties there. The core of the group is definitely still here in Dallas, but it would be nice if eventually we started having golfers from CA, KS, MI, NC, etc. that ended up joining and when someone travels somewhere they have someone that they know to play a round with. The more people that sign up, the more tournaments we could sponsor each year, plus we can always ask for donations from the group if we want to sponsor tournaments that end up exceeding the total of the dues you are suggesting or it could be just like last year as everyone that just wants to donate, donates and they have more of a say of what tournaments we are sponsoring.

Of course Ray can jump in but he is already an official and a marshall.

I don't think we should charge anyone unless they want to take the officials test. They aren't getting anything out of it by being on the roster besides that $5.00 discount.

I would still like to see us sponsor $1000 in tournies this year. That could be 4 or 5 key events or spread it out over some more events. Mr Jims, Tyler, Okie Doubles, Alex Clark, ect..

Carrollton could also used help on the courses in the way of finishing off the teepads, but the back sides of both courses will be worked on by the city in the future..might want to focus on the front side at Porter for now.

Mini's - who is going to run them??? I think we decided that both courses in one day probably isn't real feasible for many other players besides us, but a monthly event out there may be good. I will help with the paperwork, payouts, ect, but I won't run one.

okcacehole
Jan 18 2007, 03:10 PM
Another thought - if we want to raise some dough for the Carrollton courses why not throw an Ice Bowl? Sure seems to be a lack of Ice Bowl events in the Dallas area. I think in the 4yrs I have been here the Lake event last year was the only one I knew of.

and or weather would support this currently :D

yeah, but the club isn't only about becoming an official, right?

I don't think we should charge anyone unless they want to take the officials test. They aren't getting anything out of it by being on the roster besides that $5.00 discount.

I think we should change that. We could do a club monthly that benefits local tournaments and courses for which you receive some sort of discount if you're a member. And/or maybe we could sweet-talk Mr. Wind into drawing us a logo and put it on some discs to raise money for the club (discount for members). I'm pretty sure Innova and Discraft both have club fundraiser programs that don't require you to buy a large quantity up front. We could do these things without member discounts and just not charge dues... there are lots of options that don't require much in the way of administration or out-of-pocket cost. I have a few contacts in clubs who do this now, if we're interested I can make some calls and get some info.

I'd just like to see the club be something more than a list of people. I think $1000 might be a bit lofty for the first year's sponsorship goal... but I think we can try to sponsor as much as possible. The more we do to raise money for the club, the less we end up having to shell out from our own bank accounts, plus it gives everyone in the club an opportunity to help out rather than only those who can afford sponsorship money.

I'd be willing to run one or two per year. I think we can split up that duty between those who are willing and do okay. I owe Bryan some software training sometime soon... maybe he can trade me that for some TD training :D

Just some thoughts... but I think we can really do something cool with this club without letting it get too out of hand and complicated (or painful).

I have some ideas for a logo that I think you could incorporate into your design. I think a very old guy (walker, DG cart, etc) shaking his fist at a very young kid would get the point across with some comic relief at the same time. Put discs in their hands or bags on their shoulders (except the old guys, they need carts ;) )... that coupled with your artistic ability could turn out very sweet :).

Adam, when do you plan on another mailing? Or do you even have any additional memberships to send in, at this point, other than mine?

I'm ready with the money and the paperwork, whenever you are.

How previous ?
I don't doubt your word, but don't remember going into debt to Mr. Wind.
My memory is notoriously poor though.
