49 people tonight, still no aces. The mud made for some interesting disc golf :D. we even got some very light rain for 3 or 4 holes. fun times as always.

I'm going to try and pick up a few Ontario-related stamps while I'm there. Anyone interested?

played course #182 yesterday in Texarkana

Grady T Wallace Park, 9 holes, not worth playing other than adding another course to your list. The baskets look like they were from Spring Lake course. They were in bad shape and were pole hole lights. I have not played Spring Lake in the past year so I don't know for a fact.

So out of the 3 new courses i have played in the last week.

Texarkana - skip
Hot Springs - MUST PLAY
Jacksonville, just north of Little rock, not bad but a REAL long walk from 18 back to the parking lot.

Thor

Aug 09 2007, 02:28 PM
so, any aces last night at McKinney? Save me some of that cash :)

I've played only one course up here in Toronto so far. Centennial Park is pretty nice. Lots of elevation, some trees (especially on the original part of the course), and a decent wind. Officially 27 holes, although 3-4 of them aren't playable when the soccer fields are in use.

Gonna try and hit Toronto Island tomorrow and hopefully Bronte tonight. more tomorrow if I can. We did get to see Niagara Falls last night... very impressive but much more of a commercial vegas-style strip than I expected, at least on the Canada side. It was pretty funny that none of us Americans could cross the bridge into America because all of our Passports were back in Toronto.

Crowley this weekend, eh

okcacehole
Aug 09 2007, 03:15 PM
2 aces last night - the backup pot will be close to $500 next week

GB tonight and then some Herrera's

2 Aces? Doh!...If only they didn't keep me here for an extra week.

Well, in the spirit of reporting from afar (thanks Josh). I did get to play two courses in Flagstaff, (snowbowl and NAU). I also played Vista Del Comino and Fountain Hills last weekend. And last but not least I hit the local mini last night at Conocido park (its the one with the L shaped tee pad that points to two different baskets).

The craziest part is that for the first two weeks we were here it rained every day...every day for two weeks...in the DESERT! I'd complain about the heat, but I think you guys have it as bad as I do right now. ;)

Looking forward to getting back and warming up on those carrolton courses!

baldguy
Aug 10 2007, 12:20 AM
the NAU course rocks! One of my favorites, even if I only got to play there once :). I played Bronte this afternoon with some locals. Some really great holes out there. It looks like the fairways play too closely together, but it actually works out well. Played the front 9 shorts +1 and the back 9 longs +5, all Baskets in the tougher positions. I was ok with that my first time through. I'd expect to shoot under par for a good round from the shorts. a few over from the longs. The current course record from the longs is -5 by Kim Scott Wood (canadian DG hero and PDGA rookie of the year).

Toronto Island tomorrow... all day, I hope. I need to be out of there by about 2:30, so I'm thinking 1 round from each set of tees. I just need to find a place to print out the course map :)

Thor
Aug 10 2007, 01:22 PM

played the entire Lake course today. hole 3 is a little scary, no hyzer line. Hole 17 is also a little tight, but the rest of the course is back to normal for the most part. it was nice to get back there and play all 18.

Aug 12 2007, 09:29 PM
PIASO update:
I ended up 4th in MA2
DJ Wins MPG
Coda tied for first in MPO

okcacehole
Aug 12 2007, 09:59 PM
How about the Chick :D

Coda lost in the playoff...

Nice shooting again Bucky - guess the play-off curse continues for now

Leaving Thursday night for OKC, but will be playing Tuesday at Porter...

I know Gary, Todd, Parker, Bucky and a few others are in for Tuesday...

Leonel - I should know about a partner for you in a day or two...Cameron was going to check back with one other guy he already asked before...but I will keep you posted..

baldguy
Aug 12 2007, 10:20 PM
the chick dropped out after one round. the heat and not-so-filtered water on the course did her in. The upside of that deal is t hat I got to carry her umbrella around for the remaining two rounds... it was a lifesaver, even if it was polka-dotted :)

I should be in for Tuesday. I may try to talk Keith into some okie dubs this weekend... we'll see

What a weekend - can't believe nobody wanted to let some stories rip yet so here it goes

Thursday Night Todd and I closed down The Store Club with fellow Okie Jason Schwake and shot pool, took shots and caught up until early into Friday

Friday Todd and I went to shoot a round at Will Rogers and Gary and Parker caught up on hole #7...Gary aces #12 out there right after I tell him that was my last ace on that course!

Finished the round and went to Fred's and bought $300 worth of plastic from them between the 4 of us. They were kind enought to give us all a Free Beer and 1 Milk for Parker :p

Next we played doubles at Dolese with 8 of us. Todd and I, Parker and Watts, Schwake and Wilkes, and Casias and Roubideux had a great round. Everyone shooting double digits down and the course looked great. The locals have stood up slowly and started getting Dolese back to its' grand status.

Red Dog next for lunch and 5 of us have some great burgers and nasty dancer. Note to self: Lap Dances to Primus songs cost $20.00, not $5 - thanks Megan

Onward to Joe's house for some more shopping and we blew another pile of cash over there on shirts, discs, stickers, ect.
I was able to hit the pool for a bit and that was what was needed at that point.

I was able to pick up a CFR Destroyer!!!!!

DJ hosted us all to Surf and Turf that night at his house and the steaks and fish were amazing. He came up with a new putting team game and our team won. He gave everyone on the team a brand-new, dyed Star Wraith! Stayed up sippin CFO's and having a good time.

Dolese was our first and second round on Saturday and it was CRAZY!!! 100+ players on that course alone. It started to Drizzle and our card was already the loudest on the course (unsanctioned).

When our card got to Hole #17 we grabbed Steve King's Pop-Up Canopy from the parking lot and carried it for 3 holes. We would place it over the teepad before driving and over the benches while putting. I bet nobody had seen a 40x40 white tent being carried through a course before!!

Worst Ettiquette ever :p ( guy on a card in front of us)

Gary aces yet another time on Saturday and so began the splitting of a $1040 Ace Pot

Sunday we woke up to see what looked like a Hurrican sitting over OKC. SIDEWAYS RAIN!!!...it was amazing, but sitting at Woodson park for an extra 45 minutes gave way to clear, sunny skies and normal OK winds.

I was dying on Sunday morning, but played on. 6pt and 3.2 don't mix! Or maybe it was having 50 of them - hmmmm

2 rounds at Woodson and then awards for 234 players - the biggest tourney ever in OK besides Worlds!!! Congrats to Wayne and Mike!

All the OMB's went home after awards along with Bucky and Sean, but Leonel, Tood and I went to dinner at Joe Rotan's for more Steaks, Corn and Potatoes. Leonel dropped some more money at the Twisted Store and we played until 2am Sunday and drove to DJ's.

Back to Dallas Monday morning and recovery, cleaning clothes and not carrying the bag again until Thursday

Bucky - I have one of those USDGC Shirts if you want for $30.00 - Red, Blue or White

Where is the game Thursday?? Not sure if you kept the rotation last Thursday or if anyone played.

Giles and Phil bailed Sunday morning after seeing OKC weather!!

Steve - do you have time to dye a few of those Crystal White Valks I bought?

DId anyone make it home with my Twisted Flyer Chair??? It has my name on the seat. Gary - I have your chair.

okcacehole
Aug 21 2007, 11:17 PM
We didn't even have to worry about a playoff..not sure where we placed but we shot -10 for the weekend and were beat by Leonel/Mike, Gary/Steve, Jack/Kevin and Bucky/Sean..all teams were very close until the final 2 rounds on Sunday

DJ won Grandmasters with Joe T. Kyle and Coda won Pro. 2 of my okie boys won MA1.

Hopefully scores will be up in a few days

Phillipc
Aug 22 2007, 09:27 AM
Not to make excuses for bailing but...
1. Our hotel room at the biltmore had water pouring through the ceiling.
2. We just weren't feeling the drive home that night
3. We could feel the effects of being in Oklahoma for more than 24 hours.. (similar to what a warewolf goes through during a full moon)
4. It just wasn't windy enough to satisfy, so we went to Rockwall.

Pizza God
Aug 25 2007, 12:16 PM
i will put the extra baskets in either on the 8th or 9th.

I also want to fix all the tee signs that weekend.

Do we need to replace the sleeve for #11 at Greenbelt?????

I have one we could install.

In fact, lets have a work day that weekend. I will make an announcement around the 1st/2nd. I will know what I have to work that weekend by then.

Goal, put a sleeve in for #11 if needed.

Fix all the Tee Signs at both courses.

Anyone have the knowhow to make a new tee sign for #12 at Jimmy Porter????

BTW, I have the money for all these needed repairs.

Aug 25 2007, 11:06 PM

Aug 26 2007, 10:47 AM
I think there may be a doubles match today later in the afternoon. We had 14 players show up yesterday morning for Doubles at Rockwall and Bucky and Nate shot a -1 from the Longs. We then played a 9 person round of singles and I took that match with a +1 from the shorts

Dieder and Woody want to challenge Todd and I to some doubles matches, so we will probably begin that today.

I can help with some work at GB and Porter. Are you wanting to replace #12 at Porter with a similar sign as the others currently out there?

I don't have the tools, but can definatelly help in the construction phase.

Not sure about the sleeve at GB, but will check Thursday or earlier

okcacehole
Aug 26 2007, 07:26 PM
The first battle of T.A.W.D is over and we won by 2

hit 10 birdies in a row on holes #6-15..then dirtied the card and hit #2 and #3 for a -11, -9 ...team RoadHazard hit a -7 or -8

Tuesday is on for Parker at least so shall we shoot Porter then since Thursday is GB????

Pizza God
Aug 27 2007, 05:23 PM
Would like to make the sign look the same. (#12 Jimmy Porter)

From what others have told me, #11's sleeve is missing too. Thats ok, we have on in storage, it is just a matter of installing the new one.

baldguy
Aug 27 2007, 06:12 PM
I could be wrong, but I think there is more than one sign missing at Porter...

I wonder how much money it would take to get signs like the Rockwall signs. I'd be more than happy to help out with fundraising for a project like that

Hey all,
I played in Shaine Power's tournament last year and really enjoyed the course. He will have the course ready to play Monday from 9:00 to 4:00 and is running a bring your partner doubles at 10:00. I think I've talked Parker into playing. It would be nice to kick some other omb-ygb butt, so don't be scared.

Driving directions: From Dallas take US 75 North to Wilmeth Rd, exit 42 in McKinney. Take Wilmeth Rd east 1 mile to McDonald St./Hwy 5 and go right. Once on Hwy 5 go 2/10 of a mile and take your first left onto McIntyre Rd/CR 274 and follow 1.1 miles to CR 331. Take a left onto CR 331 and follow 9/10 of a mile to stop sign (CR 2933) and turn left. Follow 2933 2.3 miles to CR 341and take a right. Follow CR 341 8/10 of a miles to Harmony Hill Ranch. 2957 CR 341, McKinney, TX 75070. *Look for disc golf signs as you drive for further clarification.*

nate smoked it tonight with a -12 (I think... maybe -11) including a bomb on #16 that hit a tree up high and left him with a 25-foot putt for birdie. Jack hit -8 followed by Kevin McGill at -6, myself at -5, and Parker somewhere close to that. I think everyone else was around -2 or -3. Fun times... hopefully the rain lets us play more this week

We also need to get our sponsorship money in to Pizza. I'll be giving him a check on Tuesday. If you want to contribute, bring me some money this week. Our total contribution will be at least $100. I'm personally committed to at least $20 but will make up any difference to be sure we're at the $100 mark. It's <2 miles from home. #14 happened to be the last hole I played as it was getting too dark to see under the trees. Luckily it went in or I'd have had a tough time finding it even with it being white!

You will all be happy to know that I have found a conclusive answer to last nights putting stance question.

http://www.pdga.com/rules/qa.php (click on the drop down menu and choose "Maintaining balance while putting") or http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=630108&an=0&page=16#Post 630108 I have included the applicable text below to save time.

Rule Question: Maintaining balance while putting
Question
"I have a good rules question for you involving the stance rules. A player uses an object (in this case a branch) behind him to maintain balance for a putt. First, would this be considered "full control of balance"? Second, could you argue, if the branch is not so large that the players body weight will not move it, that it is a violation of 803.03 D and or 803.04 A because they could have moved the branch less by not hanging on it? Thanks for any input."

Response
The question can be boiled down to: Can a player hold on to an object behind his lie to maintain balance while throwing/putting?

Applicable rules:

803.04 (Stance)
803.05 (Obstacles and Relief)
804.05 (Disqualification and Suspension)

Discussion:

The rules do not require that you maintain your balance while putting. You can have a grand mal seizure as long as you don't step ahead of your lie. At the time you decide to step ahead of your lie is when you have to demonstrate balance. This is simply to prove that you are not committing a falling putt, such that you would not be able to stop yourself from falling forward due to the motion of your putt. Grabbing a branch is merely acquiring another support point, which is perfectly legal, as long as it is not ahead of your lie.

Holding on to something BEHIND your lie is not prohibited by the rules, provided that the tree that the golfer is using as a supporting point is in-bounds (803.03.A (3)).

The branch must not be moved, or else the player would be in violation of one or both of 803.04.D and 803.05.A, which require you to take the stance that results in the least movement of objects that are part of the course and which prohibit you from moving a branch to "make room for a throwing motion".

Conclusion:

A player can hold on to something behind her lie, in certain circumstances, without violating the PDGA rules. In general that which is not prohibited by the PDGA rules is allowed, provided of course, that the action done by the player is not considered "a willful attempt to circumvent the rules of play". (This, of course, is cheating!)

Other Comments:

Many members of the committee have actually tried to hold on to some object behind their lie, while leaning forward to throw or putt. In our opinion this action makes the ensuing throw/putt MORE difficult to accomplish.

playing Greenbelt tonight, though. all 21 holes. I won't be able to get there early unless my 4:00 meeting ends before 5:00... but I don't see why we can't start a card early and another card at 5:30. should make it easier to get all 21 holes done before dark. by the way, thanks to Jay for helping with the sponsorship and to Justin and Steve for committing to help. With my $20, that bring us to $80. A few more helpers and we'll have some extra to put into the tournament. I'm thinking either the ace pot or the course record bounty. If we get quite a bit more than the $100, I'd like to see about putting the cash into a 1st-place MA1 and first-place MM1 bonus. Something like that would be fun

PLEASE!! ALLOW ME.

Hole C at green belt. Last hole. Bogey free round. 3 Birds.

The drive is right of the pin and in the water. I was mad. (It is possible that I uttered an explitive.) I mark my lie, line up my rhyno and promptly shank it into the water (it never had a chance). At that point I realized i was taking a triple bogey on the hole and I started laughing (a lot). I guess I was kind of tired because I really had a hard time stopping. I advanced my mini the 4 feet that my disc went before crossing into the water again. And took my 6 like a man (or maybe a little girl). Thats how you go from 3 under to par on the last whole of the round.

Not me...I'll be playing the innagural tournament at Lake Bistineau State Park's new course in Doyline, LA. Sucks that these events are on the same day...they're both awesome courses.

Luckily, none of those Louisiana boys know about my sorry showing at MJCO, so I can still make a good first impression /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Good job all OMB - YGB participants in MJCO.
Great job Nate! tournament hot round on Sunday afternoon, 1054 rated.

fun weekend, my allergies and all that sun got the best of me but I still managed to cash for the first time in a PDGA event playing MA1. Solid play by several of our group, but Parker stands out... Baggin-owski spotted him 9.5 strokes and Parker didn't need any of em :). Way to go dude!

Did anyone that signed up on title disc have any issues with some fraudulent charges on their card? Jon Waldron and myself both had some issues with fraud on our debit cards shortly after paying on title disc.

titledisc uses PayPal. Titledisc never sees your credit card information. Since eBay bought PayPal a couple years ago, they employ the industry's best internet security when it comes to customer information... I'm not saying that they are necessarily unrelated events, but I am saying it's unlikely. In fact, if you already had an existing PayPal account, your credit card information doesn't even pass over the internet when you pay for a tournament on TitleDisc. Can't get much more secure than that :).

Who ever used my card had my card number, address, phone number, but had my incorrect email. They set up a seperate paypal account using my card and put their email address. They also purchased small items from different online stores...gamefly, yahoo:voice, ebags.com, life lock, and click bank. I think they used my card to do an online promotion where they recieve a free product if they sign up for a number of different offers. It sucked pretty bad because I had to call all of these companies to tell them that I did not sign up for any of these offers and when they asked me to confirm the information on the card...They had all of the correct information with the exception of my email address. This person used two seperate email address to sign up for all of this garbage. I have the email address...is there anything I can do with an email address?

if the person used a paypal account to pay for all of that stuff, take it up with them. They'll cancel the fake account and take care of all the charges. As for the email... it depends on what provider they used, but chances are... no. Sounds to me like they got a hold of your info somewhere else, maybe an internet site, but certainly not a reputable one. Your credit card company most likely has identity theft protection of some sort. Attack it from that angle as well as with PayPal and you should be ok. I'm sure I don't have to tell you to change your credit card number and PayPal password (along with your passwords to any other sites that have your credit card info). honestly, the most common way that people steal identities is through password cracking. If you (like most of America) use the same username and password in lots of places, all it takes is for a thief to get it from one insecure site (not necessarily one with personal info) and then try it on hundreds of other sites until he finds one with your personal info. At that point he's got your identity and he's off and running.

Tip: any time you use your credit card online, be absolutely 100% sure that the URL starts with "https://" and not "http://". Also be very careful who you give your info to. Paypal and other payment brokers are good stopgaps to keep yourself insulated, but be sure you're using a good one. One good idea is to find a credit card that will issue temporary auth numbers for specific transactions. These are one-time use credit card numbers that are temporarily tied to your account but are worthless if stolen. If you need to use your card on a site that you're not 100% comfortable with, you use a temporary number.

It sucks that you've been targeted, but these days it seems like it's just a matter of time before we all get it one way or another. You can avoid being an easy target, but if you want to do business online, there's always going to be at least a small degree of risk. I can't tell you who got your info or how, but I can tell you that it wasn't because of TitleDisc. PayPal is your best bet for finding the creep, especially since he used a fake account. At least one of the vendors he used will probably have a shipping address, so if any of them are transactions outside of PayPal's realm, contact their fraud departments. Trust me, online retailers take this sort of thing very seriously.

The only online purchase that I have made with this card is on title disc. This is a fairly new card and I usually only use it for off internet purchases. The email accounts that were used were both through yahoo.

baldguy
Sep 20 2007, 03:47 PM
since the email accounts are through yahoo I doubt there's much you can do on that end :(. I'd contact PayPal for sure and make sure that account gets closed. It sounds like your identity was stolen somewhere other than online... what I find really odd is that if you used the card to pay for the MJCO via paypal, it should have been tied to your account immediately. Paypal doesn't let more than one account use the same card number. It almost sounds like someone got your paypal login somehow and exploited that... hard to say. the only thing I know for sure is that TitleDisc uses PayPal exclusively for its transactions (this might change in the near future). I'd start looking at PayPal.

My original paypal account does not have that particular card listed on the account. SOmeone got that card's number and had all of my other personal information to create a seperate paypal account with a different email address. SUX badly...I think what happened is...someone that had my info and my card number, signed up for a free gift promotion that required the purchase from a few different online companies. I just recieved a sports illustrated today that I did not order! SUX bad.

Sep 20 2007, 11:03 PM
so did you use your paypal account to pay for the tourney? I'm confused. For what it's worth, I have access to all of the titledisc logs and database, along with the code. I can tell you exactly what happens, step by step, when you use TitleDisc to sign up for an event... and during none of those steps is your credit card number exposed. When you go to enter that information, you're on PayPal.com. PayPal processes your information, including the credit card if you choose not to use the methods already attached to your paypal account. Then PayPal sends the entry to titledisc without any payment information. It's designed that way to protect the consumer from things like this and to protect the vendor from liability. Nothing is perfect, though... so there's a small chance that your info was stolen from PayPal, but it's really unlikely since they base their business on processing online payments and work harder than any other business on the internet to make sure they are as secure as possible.

If you want, I'll be glad to help you figure this out. I want to avoid negative press for TitleDisc, especially if it's not related to titledisc :)

n8bitner
Sep 20 2007, 11:41 PM
Oh I see...I am not positive that it was titledisc but the only thing that I have purchased via the internet was the entry into the tourney. It very well could have been a dumpster diver or someone at a restaurant that had my card information. This has happened to me before I started using Titledisc so it is not necessarily that. The only reason I suspected that someone got my information from the titledisc transaction is because I just assumed that it was stolen via an online transaction.

After some much needed collaboration with BBD, I am pleased to say that we figured out that the mishaps was not a product of Titledisc! As a matter of fact, I did not even use the same card on titledisc that had the fraudulent charges! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif whoops...Sorry for the titledisc scare! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Hey guys, I found the stolen #11 basket.

I want to compare the welds with the other baskets to be 100% sure before I call the police. I only found out this week even though I had heard rumors about it several months ago.

I thought about confronting the guy and offering a deal, he can pay for the replacement ($340) or we can call the police.

What do you guys think.

I will be out of town this weekend, but will be back on Monday.

baldguy
Sep 21 2007, 04:35 PM
sounds like a fair deal, although I personally would probably just call the police. If you contact him first, he might just deny it then dump the basket at first opportunity. At least if you work with the police, they will investigate and hopefully get the basket back. That said... it might be hard to prove that it's the GB #11... I dunno. Either way you decide to go, let me know if you need help.

No Deal! Call the Police! Then post his name and picture so that I don't play with him. If he's in the PDGA (which i highly doubt), make sure he gets a suspension at least.

The only way I would offer him a deal is if he stole it to buy a loaf of bread to feed his baby.

I wouldn't even give him that...there are a lot of other things babies can eat....like grass for example. Saint Augustine is especially nutritious and it's abundant at Greenbelt! :D

Do not offer a deal to him at all...Call the police if you can prove it, but also read the other thread on here about baskets on ebay. That guy stole the goal w/o doubt and just said he found it at the park - no charges at all, but at least the basket was returned.

Do post the name and I will start a petition right now to get his arse suspended from the PDGA. Already did this once before and he still can't be a member years later
